Opinnäytetyössä tutustutaan mobiilipelin tuotantoprosessiin. Prosessin vaiheita ovat suunnittelu, toteutus, testaus ja julkaisu. Opinnäytetyön lähtökohtana on kiinnostus pelikehitykseen, ja halu tuottaa oma peli. Suunnittelu vaiheessa tutkittiin muita saman tyylilajin pelejä, ja suunniteltiin omaan mobiilipeliin halutut ominaisuudet. Toteutusvaiheessa ohjelmoitiin oma peli käyttäen Unity Engine -pelimoottoria. Kyseinen moottori sisältää myös testausominaisuuksia, joita hyödynnettiin testausvaiheessa. Prosessien tuloksena kehitettiin peli Android-mobiilikäyttöjärjestelmälle, joka valmistuessaan löytyy Googlen Play -kaupasta. Opinnäytetyössä kuvataan tätä prosessia ja tutustutaan Unity Engine -pelimoottorin ominaisuuksiin peliä apuna käyttäen. Peliä on mahdollista jatkokehittää tulevaisuudessa. Peliin voi lisätä uusia ominaisuuksia ja korjata jälkikäteen ilmenneitä ongelmia. Jos pelistä tulee suosittu, sen jatkokehitystä jatketaan aktiivisesti.

The purpose of this thesis is to explore the development process of a mobile game. The phases of the development process are planning, development, testing and releasing the game. The starting point for this thesis is our own interest in game development and the desire to make our own video game. In the planning phase various other games of the genre were researched, and the desired features for our mobile game were designed. In the development phase a game was programmed using the Unity game engine. The engine also included various features for testing, so it was also used in the testing phase. As a result of the processes a video game was developed for the Android-mobile operating system that will be found in the Google Play -store once it is finished. This thesis will describe this process and use the video game as an example while describing the features and possibilities of the Unity3D -game engine. It is possible to continue the development of the game in the future. New features can be added to the game and other problems that appear after publishing can be fixed. If the game becomes popular the development will be continued actively.

▼ Comfortable ride is one of the main index of comfortable vehicle and engine mount plays important role in it. Automobile industries are in need of reducing the vibration forces to satisfy customer requirements. Vibration of car engine arises from unbalanced forces of engine, which are transmitted from engine to chassis, and road-induced vibration which is controlled by using proper engine mounts and suspension system. The purpose of this thesis is to study the vibration of automobile engine. Engine mount with elastomeric and hydraulic mounts are developed. Their performance evaluated using bond graph on entire frequency range. Engine mount parameters are optimized by using bond graph optimization method. Sources of engine excitation forces are identified. Engine reciprocating and rotating parts contribute in generating vertical excitation forces. Mounts characteristics are analyzed by their excitation frequency and amplitude. Hydraulic engine mount are more effective than rubber mount because their frequency and amplitude response is superior. Fluid analysis is more complex so linear models and theory on two degree of freedom is developed in this thesis. Presently companies are more concern about customer satisfaction in automobile industries. Passenger may get more comfort if vibration induced due to uneven road or engine is reduced. Selection of proper engine mount, location and optimization of mounts??? parameter as per application is required. Force transmitted to passengers needs to be reduced. In this thesis, I applied knowledge from my curricular courses like vibration technology and computer aided design of dynamic system, which helped me to build bond and block diagram of whole powertrain system. I used software CAMPG, Matlab, Mathematica and Nastran to optimize parameter. Hydraulic engine mounts can be made more effective by varying the inertia area and stiffness parameter. They can operate on wide frequency range by varying stiffness using inertia area. Transmissibility is reduced which enables more comfortable ride. Advisors/Committee Members: Tuzcu, Ilhan.

▼ Improving the efficiency of spectrum access and utilization under the umbrella of cognitive radio (CR) is one of the most crucial research areas for nearly two decades. The results have been algorithms called cognitive radio engines which use machine learning (ML) to learn and adapt the communication's link based on the operating scenarios. While a number of algorithms for cognitive engine design have been identified, it is widely understood that significant room remains to grow the capabilities of the cognitive engines, and substantially better spectrum utilization and higher throughput can be achieved if cognitive engines are improved. This requires working through some difficult challenges and takes an innovative look at the problem. A tenet of the existing cognitive engine designs is that they are usually designed around one primary ML algorithm or framework. In this dissertation, we discover that it is entirely possible for an algorithm to perform better in one operating scenario (combination of channel conditions, available energy, and operational objectives such as max throughput, and max energy efficiency) while performing less effectively in other operating scenarios. This arises due to the unique behavior of an individual ML algorithm regardless of its operating conditions. Therefore, there is no individual algorithm or parameter sets that have superiority in performance over all other algorithms or parameter sets in all operating scenarios. Using the same algorithm at all times may present a performance that is acceptable, yet may not be the best possible performance under all operating scenarios we are faced with over time. Ideally, the system should be able to adapt its behavior by switching between various ML algorithms or adjusting the operating ML algorithm for the prevailing operating conditions and goal. In this dissertation, we introduce a novel architecture for cognitive radio engines, with the goal of better cognitive engines for improved link adaptation in order to enhance spectrum utilization. This architecture is capable of meta-reasoning and metacognition and the algorithms developed based on this architecture are called metacognitive engines (meta-CE). Meta-reasoning and metacognitive abilities provide for self-assessment, self-awareness, and inherent use and adaptation of multiple methods for link adaptation and utilization. In this work, we provide four different implementation instances of the proposed meta-CE architecture. First, a meta-CE which is equipped with a classification algorithm to find the most appropriate individual cognitive engine algorithm for each operating scenario. The meta-CE switches between the individual cognitive engine algorithms to decrease the training period of the learning algorithms and not only find the most optimal communication configuration in the fastest possible time but also provide the acceptable performance during its training period. Lean operation of spark ignition (SI) automotive engines offers attractive performance incentives. Lowered combustion temperatures inhibit NOx, pollutant formation while reduced manifold throttling minimizes pumping losses, leading to higher efficiency. These benefits are offset by the reduced combustion speed of lean mixtures, which can lead to high cycle-to-cycle variation and unacceptable engine behavior characteristics. Hydrogen-enhancement can suppress the undesirable consequences of lean operation by accelerating the combustion process, thereby extending the quotlean limit.quot Hydrogen can be produced onboard the vehicle with a plasmatron fuel reformer device. newlineIn this work, research efforts made in three different phases with the objective of improving the fuel economy of and reducing exhaust emissions from conventional, carbureted, two-stroke spark ignition (SI) engines, which are widely employed in two-wheel transportation in India. A review concerning the existing two-stroke engine technology for this application is included. In the first phase, a new scavenging system was developed and tested to reduce the loss of fresh charge through the exhaust port. In the second phase, the following measures are carried out to improve the combustion process: (i) using an in-cylinder catalyst, such as copper, chromium, and nickel, in the form of coating; (ii) providing moderate thermal insulation in the combustion chamber, either by newlinedepositing thin ceramic material or by metal inserts (iii) employing high-octane fuel, such as methanol, ethanol, eucalyptus oil, and orange oil, as a blending agent with gasoline. newlineBased on the effectiveness of the above measures, an optimized design was developed in the final phase to achieve improved performance. Test results indicate that with an optimized two-stroke SI engine, the maximum percentage improvement in brake thermal efficiency is about 32%, together with a reduction of 3500 ppm in hydrocarbons (HC) and 2.9% by volume of carbon monoxide (CO) emissions over the normal engine (at

In particular, different combustion chamber geometries and newlinefuel-injection characteristics are required to deal effectively with a major newlinediesel engine design problem, achieving sufficiently rapid fuel-air mixing newlinerates to complete the fuel-burning process in the time available. A wide newlinevariety of inlet port geometries, cylinder head and piston shapes, and fuelinjection newlinepatterns are used to accomplish this over the size of diesel engine. newlineCombustion chamber profile changes are considered technologically newlineimportant because of their ability to further increase in diesel engine working temperatures and reduce cooling requirements, thus achieving higher engine newlineefficiency, lower emission and increased performance. newlineThe vibration of engine also depends on the combustion newlinephenomena and then the piston profile. At present diesel engines are performing well and meeting existing emission norms. But to meet future emission norms alternative combustion concept may be useful. Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) has proven to be capable of reducing both Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and Smoke emissions significantly. In HCCI engine, a homogeneous air fuel mixture is formed in the combustion chamber and the mixture is compression ignited. Due to the fact that the mixture is homogeneous, there is no smoke producing fuel-rich regions. The NOx emissions are also low because HCCI engine runs with lean homogeneous mixture and at low in-cylinder temperature. The objective of present work is for adopting HCCI combustion in a diesel engine by addressing the problems associated with HCCI engine like (i) rapid pressure rise due to instantaneous combustion (ii) difficulty to operate at higher loads due to knocking (iii) increase of HC and CO emissions (iv) decrease in brake thermal efficiency. At high loads, rate of pressure rise is rapid in the combustion chamber. Because of this, it is inevitable to sacrifice to run the engine at high loads with HCCI concept. Also CO and HC emissions for HCCI engine were reported to be increased, which requires a remedy. The another important problem is loss in brake thermal efficiency with HCCI combustion. Hence, there is a need to focus attention to overcome these problems in order to make HCCI engine practicable. Keeping these things in mind, experimental investigation is planned in the present research work to find remedies to the above problems. For this purpose, a computerized single cylinder, four stroke, water cooled, variable compression ratio, diesel engine is selected with specifications shown in Appendix-I. The performance, emission and combustion parameters of base engine diesel are recorded at standard operating conditions such as compression ratio 16.5, injection timing 230 bTDC and injection pressure 200 bar and these readings are taken as base data.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis comprises of the development of a facility were spark ignition engine fuels can be tested. Development of the facility included the installation of a standard spark ignition engine, an engine dynamometer, control and monitoring equipment, control and monitoring software, and an in-cylinder pressure measurement setup. The system was tested using petrol as well as a petrol-ethanol blend. The results indicated good accuracy and repeatability of the system. Analysis of the performance and combustion of the petrol-ethanol blend showed no significant difference in comparison to the petrol fuel. The petrol-ethanol blend showed a slight increase in oxygen content and fuel consumption as well as an increase in CO2 emissions and a decrease in CO emissions. During the project, a comparison was also made between the performance of fibre optic transducers and a piezoelectric transducer. It was found that the fibre optic transducers performed similarly to the piezoelectric transducer during low engine load conditions. At high load conditions however, the fibre optic transducers were not able to produce the same accuracy as the piezoelectric transducer.

AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie tesis bestaan uit die ontwikkeling van 'n fasiliteit waar brandstowwe vir 'n vonkontsteking binnebrandenjin getoets kan word. Ontwikkeling van die fasiliteit sluit in die installering van 'n standaard vonkontsteking binnebrandenjin, 'n enjin rem, beheer en monitering toerusting, beheer en monitering sagteware, en 'n insilinder drukmeting opstelling. Die fasiliteit is getoets met suiwer petrol sowel as 'n petrol-etanol mengsel. Die resultate het hoë vlakke van akkuraatheid en herhaalbaarheid getoon. Ontleding van die werksverrigting en verbranding van die petrol-etanol mengsel het geen beduidende verskil getoon in vergelyking met die suiwer petrol brandstof nie. Die petrol-etanol mengsel het 'n effense toename in suurstofinhoud, brandstofverbruik, sowel as CO2 vrylating en 'n afname in CO vrylating getoon. Tydens die projek is 'n vergelyking getref tussen die akkuraatheid van optiese vesel drukmeters en 'n piësoëlektriese drukmeter. Daar is bevind dat die akkuraatheid van die optiese vesel drukmeters soortgelyk is aan die piësoëlektriese drukmeter gedurende lae enjin lastoestande. By hoë las omstandighede was die optiese vesel drukmeters egter nie in staat om dieselfde akkuraatheid as die piësoëlektriese drukmeter te handhaaf nie.

▼ A magnetoplasma spacecraft engine, such as the Variable Area Specific Inpulse Magnetoplasma Rocket (VASIMR®), uses magnetic fields and a magnetic nozzle to constrict and accelerate plasma to produce thrust. Most of the ejected plasma particles are expected to detach from the magnetic field lines and escape to provide thrust but some particles may not and could impact the spacecraft structure resulting in surface erosion and electrical charging. The plasma plume for a magnetoplasma engine was modeled computationally and scaled to determine what percentage of particles remained in the magnetic field and the kinetic energy of all impacting particles. Factors such as average particle velocity at the engine exit, magnetic field strength, and plume density distribution (i.e. width) were varied in a full factorial experiment to ascertain the effects of each factor and the important inter-relationships. The results are presented for a generic magnetoplasma engine and for the specific VASIMR® case. Detachment was found to be occurring with 99.42% of particles escaping under the worst conditions and only 0.0172% of particles impacting structure. It was determined that three things led to an increase in the number of impacting particles on spacecraft structure: a stronger magnetic field, a lower exit velocity of particles into the plume, and a wider plume. In addition, there was an “erosion zone” where an increasing particle exit velocity led to more erosion until the number of impacting particles was negligible and erosion dropped significantly. For the specific case under nominal conditions, the erosion rate was 1.386 nm/month of engine operating time on aluminum and 0.611 nm/month on silicon. The electrical charging on spacecraft surfaces was found to be -27.85 V DC, which can be mitigated with current plasma contactor technology or some variant. Therefore, magnetoplasma spacecraft engines can be shown to cause minimal erosion and electrical charging and should be capable of operating safely with current technology by varying the three parameters previously mentioned. The Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs) have played a significant role in transportation system to date and are expected to retain a significant market share through to 2050, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Improving the efficiency of the ICEs is one of the most promising and cost-effective approaches to increasing highways vehicle’s fuel economy. The tools to address critical barriers to commercializing higher efficiency, lower emissions, advanced ICEs for passenger and commercial vehicles are increasingly important in the rapidly evolving automotive sector. In this research, a model based optimization strategy is developed for trade-off analysis of parts in Spark Ignition Internal Combustion Engines (SI-ICE). The trade-off analysis tool has been used as a complement to engine mapping to determine the operating region of an engine where a new part could lead to improvements in fuel efficiency, performance, and emissions. To build the engine models, a Design of Experiment (DoE) was developed for performing the engine tests. For each spark plug set, the engine tests were conducted twice with an acceptable control of the parameters that affect engine outputs. The engine torque, Break Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC) and break specific NOx emission were considered as the engine responses. Engine models were built according to the two-stage modeling strategy by means of black box modeling techniques. The accuracies of the models were 96%, 95% and 92% for the engine torque, BSFC and NOx outputs respectively. For the optimization part, determination of the optimal spark timing for each spark plug was formulated as a multi-objective optimization problem searching for compromises among opposing objectives, i.e. engine torque, emission and fuel consumption. The optimization outputs were in form of Pareto fronts, enabling the selection of the best solutions in terms of different objectives by considering the higher level information. The resulted Pareto fronts of the two spark plugs were compared at different operating points of the Ford Coyote engine and results showed that the two plugs are comparable. The marginal difference was at low load and low speed condition, where the newly designed spark plug was better than the conventional design.

Natural gas substitution for diesel can result in significant reduction in pollutant emissions. Based on current fuel price projections, operating costs would be lower. With a high ignition temperature and relatively low reactivity, natural gas can enable promising approaches to combustion engine design. In particular, the combination of low reactivity natural gas and high reactivity diesel may allow for optimal operation as a reactivity-controlled compression ignition (RCCI) engine, which has potential for high efficiency and low emissions. In this computational study, a lean mixture of natural gas is ignited by direct injection of diesel fuel in a model of the heavy-duty CAT3401 diesel engine. Dual-fuel combustion of natural gas-diesel (NGD) may provide a wider range of reactivity control than other dual-fuel combustion strategies such as gasoline-diesel dual fuel. Accurate and efficient combustion modeling can aid NGD dual-fuel engine control and optimization. In this study, multi-dimensional simulation was performed using a nite-volume computational code for fuel spray, combustion and emission processes. Adaptive mesh refinement (AMR) and multi-zone reaction modeling enables simulation in a reasonable time. The latter approach avoids expensive kinetic calculations in every computational cell, with considerable speedup. Two approaches to combustion modeling are used within the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) framework. The first approach uses direct integration of the detailed chemistry and no turbulence-chemistry interaction modeling. The model produces encouraging agreement between the simulation and experimental data. For reasonable accuracy and computation cost, a minimum cell size of 0.2 millimeters is suggested for NGD dual-fuel engine combustion. In addition, the role of different chemical reaction mechanism on the NGD dual-fuel combustion is considered with this model. This work considers fundamental questions regarding combustion in NGD dual-fuel combustion, particularly about how and where fuels react, and the difference between combustion in the dual fuel mode and conventional diesel mode. The results show that in part-load working condition main part of CH4 cannot burn and it has significant effect in high level of HC emission in NGD dual-fuel engine. The CFD results reveal that homogeneous mixture of CH4 and air is too lean, and it cannot ignite in regions that any species from C7H16 chemical mechanism does not exist. It is shown that multi-injection of diesel fuel with an early main injection can reduce HC emission significantly in the NGD dual-fuel engine. In addition, the results reveal that increasing the air fuel ratio by decreasing the air amount could be a promising idea for HC emission reduction in NGD dual-fuel engine, too.
