▼ ur society is today in a phase of development in environmental and sustainable thinking. Alarming reports show changes in climate caused by our load and exhaust of resources. The energy usage contributes to a big part of it, by its emission of carbon dioxide. The built environment uses around 40 % of the total energy consumption in Sweden and requests to strongly reduce it are presented from both EU and national level.
This thesis brings up the subject of green building with a focus on how we can create more energy efficient buildings in projects of new construction. Since the construction industry today often fails to pass on the knowledge between different projects, as a return of experiences, the construction company Skanska suggested the topic for this thesis. The purpose was to study modern green solutions, used in different reference projects to collate and pass on the knowledge and experiences from both production and usage of the solutions, to indemnify the quality of them for energy efficiency.
Five green solutions were selected:
Green lighting installation
Solar shields for facades of glass
Heat recovery with MVHR-system
Demand controlled systems
Wall and terrace solution with insulation of PIR.
The different solutions were at first studied theoretically and then, if possible, at the site of the project. Interviews were made with adequate people in the production and the intent with the thesis was to find out experiences of the chosen projects. Since the numbers of eco-certified buildings are increasing, an aim to link the different solutions with certifying systems rose, foremost towards the LEED system (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) – in line of Skanska’s environmental initiative.
The result from the study of green solutions shows that green thinking and interests of energy efficiency by costumers – of economical or environmental reasons – are increasing. The review also shows the fact of green solutions requires economic investments, but a relatively short payoff time can be earned by reduced costs of energy savings. ▼ I takt med byggbranschens ökade miljöengagemang uppmärksammas allt fler områden som är i behov av energieffektiviseringsåtgärder. De olika parterna har vid olika skeden av byggprocessen olika ansvar och förutsättningar. Genom att ställa fler krav vid upphandlingsskedet kan beställare i samarbete med huvudentreprenörer och även aktörer längre ner i ledet skapa en grönare byggarbetsplats. Fastighets AB Brostaden som är ett fastighetsbolag i Storstockholm vill i sin roll som beställare undersöka de krav som är rimliga och aktuella att ställa vid en upphandling. Med detta som utgångspunkt är syftet med rapporten att undersöka effektiviseringsåtgärder som går att vidta gällande byggbodar och transporter till och från byggarbetsplatsen. Målet är att arbetet ska mynna ut i konkreta upphandlingskrav. Visionen är att i rollen som beställare skapa incitament för entreprenörer och att denna rapport ska ligga som grund för Brostadens fortsatta arbete mot en grönare byggprocess. I Sverige finns det idag drygt 40 000 byggbodar och de bodar som i störst utsträckning använts är något som i rapporten benämnts vid standardbodar. Dessa är bodar som använts sedan 1990-talet och där inga energieffektiviseringsåtgärder vidtagits. Det finns flertalet åtgärder som går att vidta dock beror detta på respektive åtgärds lönsamhet. I rapporten undersöks vilka åtgärder som anses vara lönsamma samt vilka krav beställaren utifrån dessa åtgärder kan ställa. Transporter står för en stor del av Sveriges totala utsläpp. Utsläppens omfattning beror på faktorer som berör transportfordonen samt den logistiska planeringsprocessen. I rapporten kopplas förekommande problem samman med aktuella åtgärder samt konkreta exempel på besparingspotential.
Due to an increased interest in a greener built environment and with the construction industry increasing its environmental commitment, more energy efficiency measures are being taken in those areas in need. Different parties have different responsibilities in the construction process Higher standards in the procurement of contractors and subcontractors concerning energy efficiency will result in collaboration between different parties and can resolve in a more energy efficient construction process. In the role as the project owner and as a real estate company, Fastighets AB Brostaden wants to investigate further feasible standards during procurement. The main goal, on this basis, is to evaluate feasible efficiency measures regarding construction barracks and transportation. The report shall culminate in specific procurement requirements. Att investera i ett solcellssystem kostar mycket pengar som på längre sikt kommer resultera i en större intäkt än kostnad. När detta inträffar skiljer sig markant i många fall och med regeringens krångliga regler blir det inte lättare. Examensarbetet innefattar flera analyserande lösnings-metoder för plusenergikontoret i Väla Gård, Helsingborg. Anledningen är att kostnadseffektivisera solcellssystemet så att intresset för solproduk-tionen ökar i Sverige.Tre olika kostnadsmässiga scenarier med timdebitering, egenlagring och nettodebitering jämförs och presenteras grundat på beräkningsmetod inom aktuell forskning. Det bäst lämpade scenarierna ges i form av ett önskat införande för optimal vinst för kund och miljö.Energimarknaden kan snabbt äventyras vilket gör att valet av lämplig lösning minskar solcellsägarens riskfaktor och förhoppningsvis ökar sol-energiproduktionen.

▼ Hip osteoarthritis is a common disease associated with everyday pain and limited mobility. This causes a change in gait characteristics during walking, which tends to give a lower energy efficiency than normal. For patients with hip osteoarthritis, hip arthroplasty is considered a last option due to the related risks of a surgery. To investigate whether the patients show signs of improvement after the surgery, through an energy efficiency standpoint, data have been collected through a gait analysis. In this study, gait analysis was performed on a healthy reference group to obtain reference data. Data from the patient group, which consisted of patients with hip osteoarthritis pre- and post surgery using total hip arthroplasty, THA, was given by Karolinska Institutet. To determine if THA is an appropriate action, data from the patients were compared to the reference data. By performing and collecting data through a gait analysis on a healthy reference group and on patients with hip osteoarthritis pre- and post surgery using total hip arthroplasty, THA, this study has investigated whether the patients show signs of improvement after the surgery and also if the patients differentiate from the reference group through an energy efficiency standpoint. This is used to determine whether THA is an appropriate action. The study showed a difference in energy efficiency pre- and post surgery. An obvious improvement after THA was shown in most of the patients (p = 0,0094). However, 36 % showed in at least one case, decreased- or an unchanged value in energy efficiency. Although, through an average standpoint only two patients showed decreased efficiency, but the patients after THA only reached an energy efficiency that was approximately half the efficiency of the reference group. The results in this study indicates that further studies are necessary. Considerable alternatives to THA, especially surface hip arthroplasty, SRA, as well as parameters such as pain and mobility should be examined with respect to energy efficiency. Until then, hip arthroplasty should still be considered a last option for patients.
Höftartros är en vanligt förekommande sjukdom som ger daglig smärta och begränsar den fysiska förmågan. Detta leder till en förändrad gångstil vid gång och följaktligen en lägre energieffektivitet än normalt. För höftartrospatienter ses en höftledsplastik som en sista åtgärd på grund av dess möjliga komplikationer. För att undersöka huruvida patienter visar en förbättring efter operation, gällande återhämtning i energieffektivitet, har datainsamling via gånganalys utförts. ▼ The resources of planet Earth are depleted. If everybody in the world would live the life of Swedish people a total of 3.7 Earths would be needed to replenish resources consumed. Energy is one of these resources. In Sweden more than a third of all energy is used for the housing and service sector. About 60 % of this energy is used for heating and domestic hot water. Hence, a large amount of energy can be saved by building more energy-efficient buildings, for example passive houses. There are different methods to make a building more energy efficient. The Kyoto pyramid has ranked the most important measures according to their effectiveness. The most important method is energy conservation by reducing the heat losses for the building. Different methods can be combined to reduce heat losses such as; reducing heat transmission and air leakage or changing the building’s design all of which reduces the demand of energy.The purpose of the report is to investigate methods to reduce the energy use in the design phase. The aim is to convert a conventional designed preschool into a certified passive house building. For that reason, energy reducing method that gives the biggest impact on the energy consumption has been investigated. Also, the economic benefit of building more energy efficient has been evaluated through LCC analysis.Passive house is one type of energy efficient building which has a lot of requirements to fulfill before it can be certified as a passive house. There are two existing two Passive house standards in Sweden, the international standard from Passivhausinstitut and the Swedish standard. In this report the Swedish standard is used, also known as FEBY. Passive houses require among other things good insulation of the building envelope, a high heat recovery system of the ventilation and low U-values for windows and doors.Computer simulation of the energy use in VIP Energy showed that the conventionally designed building fulfilled the requirement in the Swedish Standard BBR, but was far from fulfilling the passive house requirement. However, reducing the building heat losses toward passive house standard was not enough to reach the requirements. When the building shape was changed into a more compact (single or double story) building the requirements of a passive house was fulfilled. Although, the building with two stories are more realistic in the case studied.The biggest impact on the energy usage was the change of the building shape into a compact two story building. The individual change that made the biggest impact was when the insulation in the buildings envelope was changed (excluding doors and windows).From a life cycle perspective it is economically profitable to build more energy efficient buildings. When changes are made to the building envelope in order to reduce the energy demand, without changing the shape, the life cycle cost are reduced by 4-12 million after 50 years depending on the interest rate. ▼ Den här studien analyserar utifrån ett systemanalytiskt perspektiv olika indikatorer för att mäta, följa upp och styra energianvändningen på Bolidenområdet, ett gruvområde i Västerbottens län. Det befintliga arbetet med energieffektivisering och nyckeltal för energi analyseras i del A. Arbetet som Bolidenområdet hittills har genomfört har skett inom ramen för det frivilliga programmet för energieffektivisering (PFE) för energiintensiva företag sedan 2004 med energiledningssystem och energikartläggningar. Olika typer av indikatorer introduceras och i del B analyseras potentiella indikatorer som kan användas generellt inom Bolidenområdet och specifikt på respektive gruva och i Anrikningsverket. Framförallt används nyckeltal och faktiska tal som indikatorer och dessa kan sedan jämföras mot bästa tillgängliga teknik för att undersöka potentiella effektiviseringsåtgärder. Ett fåtal övergripande indikatorer har tagits fram för att ge en övergripande bild. Det stora flertalet indikatorer återfinns på en detaljerad nivå avsedda för delprocesser. Delprocesserna omfattar en till två indikatorer för hela processen och 7-11 detaljerade indikatorer inom delprocesserna. De delprocesser som är aktuella för gruvorna är ventilation, vattenundanhållning, produktionsmaskiner och uppfodring. För Anrikningsverket är delprocesserna infrakt, malning, flotation, avvattning och pumpning. För transporterna ovanjord från gruvorna till Anrikningsverket och från Anrikningsverket till smältverket har en övergripande indikator (diesel/ton.km) föreslagits som bör mätas för varje fordon. Dessutom differentieras indikatorn för om lastbilen kör tom returtransport eller returtransport med last. I del C analyseras energibesparingspotentialer utifrån en scenario baserad modell. Med utgångspunkt i olika processdelar finns effektiviseringsåtgärder mellan 0,1-7,4 % för enskilda åtgärder på respektive gruva och i Anrikningsverket. Slutsatsen är att systemanalys är en bra metod för att skaffa dig kunskap om hur energin används. Rätt applicerat är indikatorer ett effektivt verktyg för att analysera energianvändningen. För att indikatorerna ska fylla sin funktion och vara användbara krävs ett aktivt arbete med optimerings- och energieffektiviseringsåtgärder. Det finns stora potentialer att minska energianvändningen, för enskilda åtgärder, utförda på alla gruvor eller i Anrikningsverket, är potentialen 390-6873 MWh/år, med störst potential för minskad dieselanvändning i transporterna ovanjord och för förbättrad styrning av ventilationen.

The scientific and technical basis of energy storage. The device and the operating principle of an autonomous combined power plant with an energy storage device are considered. On the basis of the technological calculation, an optimal combination of a wind generator, a system of solar panels and a reservoir, which can provide reliable and uninterrupted power generation, was chosen. The economic efficiency of the project on the use of combined medium power plants at gas production facilities in remote areas was estimated. Conclusions are drawn about the advisability of introducing energy systems based on renewable sources with energy storage devices at the country's enterprises.

▼ The public sector owns and manages approximately 90 million square meters of premises. One of the toughest challenges today is managing both climate-friendly and energy efficient buildings. For the landlords who facilitate these properties to reach national targets by 2020, they will need well thought out strategies. New technology and installations are not enough. Tenants also have to change their behaviour. A relatively new way to influence behaviour without changing values of people is nudging. The term nudging was coined by researchers Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein. Situations are designed to encourage individuals to choose an individual and society-beneficial alternative. Nudging can be used to help people make choices that are better for the environment and their overall health. To be considered as a nudge the action, per the definition, does not allow the forbidding of options or change of economic incentives. Hence, it respects people’s freedom of choice. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how nudging methods impact public tenants’ daily energy consumption. This is explored by looking into what work has been done based on the nudging toolbox; (1) simplification and framing of information, (2) changes to the physical environment, (3) changes to the default option, and (4) the use of social norms. Can nudging be a way to encourage public tenants to behave more sustainable? The thesis studies how three public landlords work with influencing behaviour to reduced energy consumption and as well as their view on nudging as a strategy. Six interviews were conducted, three with three different public landlords and three with one tenant representative from each landlord. To be able to introduce sufficient behavioural actions or nudges, consideration must be given to the organisational context. All landlords gave examples of the challenges facing their buildings such as staffed facilities and technical systems running around the clock, patient security, vandalism and historical heritage. All respondents had a positive attitude towards nudging but only one of the tenant representatives was familiar with the term since before. The possibilities for the landlords to work with nudging must be considered as favourable and that some of the already implemented measures could classify as nudging. Research shows that nudging works best as an enhancement of other measures, therefore, more research is still needed to investigate how effective nudging is to affect tenants’ energy consumption.

▼ The energy demand is a complex issue for householders in New Zealand, since a large number of dwellings were built before energy efficiency regulation came into force in 1979. To heat the average New Zealand home takes a lot of energy, and therefore many householders choose to limit their heating space. Powerco, New Zealand’s second-largest distribution company is conducting a two-year study, called Powering tomorrow’s homes. The project aims to uncover opportunities to shift peak loads on Powerco’s electricity network, by using a range of networks surveys. The dwellings that have been chosen to contribute to this study have gone through a large retrofit in 2014. This study has been limited to verifying the effectiveness of three different heating systems, within three houses in New Zealand. It has been based on global data such as climate, temperature, humidity, design of the house and the family’s different behavioural patterns. Three case models have been established in the program IDA ICE, to simulate and calculate the amount of used and delivered energy for space heating. Thereafter four main energy simulations were conducted to study the heating system before the intervention, after the intervention and a trial to see which heating system that is best suitable for each house. The new settings together with the original heating systems were also calculated. The simulations are also limited to summer respective winter because the heating systems are used differently depending on season. Data of location and climate files have been limited to Auckland and Wellington. The results show that the most energy efficient heating system for dwelling A is the heat pump and infrared panel it uses today and for dwelling C its dwelling A’s heating system. Data demonstrate that the most effective heating system for dwelling B varies depending on climate, showing that dwelling C’s gas heating is more efficient for a warmer humid climate in Auckland and that dwelling A’s heat pump is better for a colder climate in Wellington. Comparison between the new settings and the old heating system (two radiators) shows that dwelling A’s new heating system (infrared panel & a heat pump), requires less delivered energy than the old heating system. Dwellings B’s new heating system (gas fire, an infrared panel & a radiator) is the most effective in Auckland however the old heating system (an air source heat pump, oiled-filled radiators & a gas wall heater) is the most energy efficient in Wellington. Dwelling C’s new heating system (gas central heating & a gas fire) has a lower delivered energy than the old heating system (gas fire, two heat pumps, radiators and heating panels) for summer in Auckland, while it has a higher delivered energy for winter in both Wellington and Auckland, and also summer in Wellington. ▼ More efficient energy consumption is essential to secure a sustainable future, not least within the building and real estate sector which answers for approximately 40 % of the EU countries total energy consumption. One part of EU: s work to reduce the energy consumption is the directive on energy performance of buildings which among other things have lead to stricter demands on energy performance in new and renovated buildings.
One of the difficulties with making buildings more energy effective is that it often demands big investments and although it results in lower operating costs the extent of these savings and therefore also the repayment time can be difficult to decide beforehand. To make it interesting for property owners and also tenants to invest in energy efficient buildings powerful incentives are needed. Favorable loans to energy efficiency projects are one example of governmental instruments that have been tested in other European countries with good results.
Reduced operating costs appear to be the main incentive for property owners to make their buildings more energy efficient. The best result of an energy efficiency project is usually achieved by cooperation between property owners and tenants but in order to make that interesting it is important that both parts can profit from the savings. This has led to the development of different kinds of leases with incentives, for example green leases. Furthermore long term cooperation between property owners and contractors is crucial to achieve a good result when technical measures are performed. In addition to the immediate economic gains that can be made by renting out or operating in properties with high energy – and environmental performance it can be used as a part of the company’s marketing strategy to send out an environmentally conscious image.
The result from the questionnaire survey that has been performed in this report, with representatives from property owners and tenants, shows that the stakeholders that have tried green leases and other innovative concepts are content with the result. Although there are many good incentives and methods to perform energy efficiency measures the result from this study also shows that many stakeholders are hesitant to try new methods. More information from successful projects is probably a good way to reduce the doubts. Through more information the advantages with energy efficient properties, leases with incentives and cooperation between stakeholders can be highlighted which is an important part in order to achieve the energy goals.

▼ Syftet med denna studie är att belysa vilka faktorer som fastighetsbolagen upplever påverkar lönsamheten för och genomförandet av energiinvesteringar inom värme och ventilation. Studien är av kvalitativ karaktär och fallstudier görs på sju företag med semistrukturerade intervjuer som insamlingsmetod. Därefter spelas alla intervjuer in och transkriberas. Flera olika faktorer påverkar lönsamheten för och genomförandet av energiinvesteringar i flerbostadshus. De undersökta faktorerna som påverkar investeringarnas lönsamhet är: typ av investering, kalkylmetod, avkastningskrav, energipriset, intressenter och institutionella faktorer. Studiens resultat tyder på att värmeåtervinning (FX), tilläggsisolering av vind, injusteringar och optimering samt styr och reglering varit de mest företagsekonomiskt lönsamma energiinvesteringarna. Den vanligaste beräkningsgrunden var Livscykelkostnadsanalys (LCC). Uppsatsen bidrar till att öka kunskapen om hur fastighetsbolag ser på energiinvesteringar och dess lönsamhet. Studiens kvalitativa resultat kan inte generaliseras till andra fastighetsbolag eller till framtida investeringar. Vidare forskning rekommenderas nationellt och kvantitativt inom lönsamma energiinvesteringar. Det skulle vara av intresse att fastställa de mest lönsamma investeringarna i Sverige, orsaker till vad som hindrar energiinvesteringar samt hur olika beräkningssätt kan påverka dess lönsamhet och realisering.
The purpose of this study is to highlight the factors that real estate companies is experiencing affects the profitability and the implementation of energy investments in heating and ventilation. The study is qualitative in nature and case studies are conducted at seven companies with semi-structured interviews as the method of collection. Furthermore, all the interviews are recorded and transcribed. Several factors affect the viability and implementation of energy investments in apartment buildings. The investigated factors affecting the profitability of investment are: the type of investment, calculation method, yield, energy price, stakeholders and institutional factors. The study's results suggest that heat recovery (FX), additional insulation of attic, adjustments and optimization, and control and regulation was the most economically viable energy investments. The most common basis of calculation was the Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCC). The study contributes to the knowledge of real estate companies’ perspectives of energy investments and their profitability. The study's qualitative results cannot be generalized neither to other real estate companies or future investments. Further quantitative and national research is recommended in profitable energy investments. It would be of interest to determine the most profitable investments in Sweden, causes of the barriers preventing energy investments and how different methods of calculation may affect its profitability and implementation.

▼ Public buildings are considered to be the most power consuming buildings in the world. To reduce power consumption earlier studies propose greater use of natural daylight to illuminate surroundings, hallways and areas where to preform common work tasks and where artificial lighting is only used for the actual work space and places where higher light levels are required. In office buildings with available daylight, it has been shown that people have a greater general well-being, improved health, reduced absenteeism and increased productivity. The purpose of this study is to investigate how different room configurations can increase the amount of daylight in offices. The essay is based on an experimental study in the form of a questionnaire in which participants have evaluated and documented their perceptions of the visual properties regarding daylight. The evaluation has been carried out with scale models of different room configurations, but with the same window size and window positions. The results show that a room configuration with embrasures provides the most effective daylight harvesting. Embrasures contribute with maximum visibility, brightness and provide maximum light scattering. Room configurations with rounded corners have proven to give the most even light ratio between the light and dark areas of a room where the light is also spread most evenly along the walls. According to an evaluation of the visual properties of daylight, a room with rounded corners is perceived to be the most comfortable room and provide the softest and gentlest light impression. The study is limited to evaluate the amount of daylight and the visual properties of daylight in large office spaces designed based on energy-efficient passive houses with thick facade walls.
Offentliga byggnader räknas som de byggnader som har störst energianvändning i världen. För att sänka energianvändningen föreslås ökad användning av dagsljus för att lysa upp omgivning, korridorer och platser för allmänna arbetsuppgifter och där den artificiella belysningen endast används vid arbetsytor och platser där högre ljusnivå krävs. I kontorsbyggnader med tillgängligt dagsljusinsläpp har det också visats att människor har ett ökat allmänt välbefinnande, bättre hälsa, minskad frånvaro och ökad produktivitet. Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur olika rumsutformningar kan bidra till ökat tillvaratagande av dagsljus i kontorslokaler. Undersökningen bygger på en experimentell studie i form av en enkätundersökning där testpersoner har utvärderat och dokumenterat sina uppfattningar kring dagsljusets visuella egenskaper. Utvärderingen har genomförts i skalmodeller med olika rumsutformningar men samma fönstermått och fönsterplacering. ▼ As a result of increased energy prices more and more energy-efficient homes are coveted. An energy-efficient alternative is passive houses, which is characterized by an extremely well insulated building envelope that recovers the heat without the use of radiators or under floor heating. But a passive house requires a higher investment cost than a conventional building project, since it will require more construction materials, training of construction workers, greater land area, and long construction period. But the lower operating cost expects to pay back the higher cost of investment. We therefore question how profitable a passive house is in relation to houses built according to modern conventional building techniques.
The aim of our study is to investigate the viability of passive houses compared to conventional houses. By using economic tools we intend to pursue this question of profitability to see where, when and how costs and revenues emerge.
Our report resulted in a case study where we looked closer at the passive house project Oxtorget and the conventional project Apollofjärilen, which both are owned by Finnvedsbostäder in Värnamo. Through interviews with Per-Magnus Rylander, project manager for Oxtorget, and Jan-Olof Fag, operation manager for Oxtorget, we got access to sufficient information about the two projects to compare the various profitability calculations, to finally discover which of the two projects that was most profitable.
With the help of our collected empirical data and economic tools, we concluded that Oxtorget became an unnecessarily expensive passive house project. This is because Oxtorget was built in such an early stage that information and experience from passive technology was missing, which involved a cost to the construction team to learn new technologies. Besides, there were only two offers, which meant less competition and therefore a high price. But it is primarily Oxtorgets planning cost that has affected our profitability calculations adversely. Since the building was appealed it required two planning’s which made Oxtorgets investment cost more difficult to recoup. But thanks to government contributions and low rates, we could still come to the conclusion that Oxtorget was a profitable venture, but nowhere near as profitable as we initially expected. Finally, we found out that we believe that if a similar comparative study carried out in which the passive house project follows a normal building process we will see a significant change of the result. We have also realized that the rate plays a significant role on projects profitability. For this reason, we have finally found that minimized investment costs are the most important thing to ensure that a passive house is more profitable than a conventional house.

▼ The goal of this paper is to find out how solar cells can improve energy efficiency on-board M/S Sydfart. The paper is based on a number of energy measurements on board the M/S Sydfart. The solar surface is calculated by measuring the available space for installing solar panels. Global radiation data is taken from STRÅNG's database, the data is then used to calculate the theoretical power produced by the solar cells. Energy efficiency is analysed in two ways. The first analysis focuses on how much of the daily energy usage that can be covered with solar cells. The second analysis focuses on the change of EEOI attainable with solar cells installed. The electrical energy consumption on-board M/S Sydfart, during the summer, is almost entirely covered with solar cells. The paper however shows some disadvantages. During the winter, the produced electrical energy from solar cells are low and an unreasonably large area of solar panels is required to cover the electricity demand. Two scenarios are evaluated. In scenario one, all the space available for the installation of photovoltaic panels is used. This gives a large energy surplus during summer. In scenario two, only half of the surface is used to install solar panel. This results in a smaller energy surplus without any significant loss of usable energy. Given that M/S Sydfart has limited ability to take advantage of energy surplus, the second scenario is recommended. The result shows that energy efficiency will be improved. Depending on the season, EEOI can be improved between 0.5 % and 12%. There is no demand for improvement in EEOI from IMO. It is up to the shipping companies themselves to set internal targets for improvement.
Målet med denna uppsats är att ta reda på hur solceller kan förbättra energieffektiviteten ombord M/S Sydfart. Uppsatsen baseras på ett antal energimätningar ombord M/S Sydfart. Solcellernas yta beräknas med hänsyn taget till tillgänglig yta för att installera solpaneler. Globalstrålningsdata kommer ifrån STRÅNG`s databas, den datan används sedan för att beräkna en teoretisk producerad effekt utav solcellerna. Energieffektiviteten analyseras på två sätt. Den första analysen ser på hur mycket av den dagliga energiförbrukningen som kan tillgodogöras med solceller. Den andra analysen baseras på hur stor för- ändring av EEOI som kan uppnås med installerade solceller. Elenergibehovet ombord M/S Sydfart, under sommarhalvåret, kan nästan helt täckas med solceller. ▼ Globally, the number of mobile broadband subscriptions is growing and the amount of mobile data traffic is expected to continue to grow rapidly. In the next five years the number of smartphone subscriptions is expected to more than double, while the amount of mobile traffic per active subscription per month of these subscribers is expected to nearly quadruple. As a consequence, mobile network operators (MNOs) aim to increase radio network capacity and coverage through heterogeneous deployments. In such heterogeneous networks, wireless local area networks (WLANs) are integrated with wireless wide area networks (WWANs), and there exist a tight interaction between them. The almost-ubiquitous support for IEEE802.11 WLANs (usually referred to as Wi-Fi®) makes this radio access technology a potential integrated component of near-future mobile broadband. With Wi-Fi completely integrated into mobile access, MNOs would optimize user experience and use of resources by controlling device’s choice of connectivity. In addition to guaranteeing the best user experience, optimal use of access networks should care about energy-efficiency in order to extend device’s battery life. However, the performance of Wi-Fi is far from meet neither energy-efficiency nor quality of service (QoS) user’s requirements. This radio access technology employs an energy-consuming medium access control (MAC) protocol that wastes both bandwidth and device’s energy resources. Therefore, enhanced MAC protocols, cleverly combined with standardized power saving mechanisms such as automatic power save delivery (APSD), would improve both energy-efficiency and QoS in order to enhance WLANs performance and meet user’s expectations. In addition, current WLAN discovery mechanisms neither meet requirements of the integrated scenario. Handover operations must be improved in terms of energy efficiency and latency. Consequently, enhanced handover schemes should reduce overall device’s energy consumption during the process, and enable seamless handover between Wi-Fi APs and between cellular/Wi-Fi networks. During this thesis project, the main challenges of Wi-Fi towards its integration into mobile access broadband have been analyzed. Consequently, a solution has been designed in order to address the identified challenges, which have been introduced in the previous paragraphs. The solution consists of enhancements for IEEE 802.11 WLANs based on current standards that achieve energy-efficiency and QoS, and facilitate Wi-Fi/cellular networks interworking. Finally, a custom-designed simulator has been used to evaluate the proposed solution.

▼ The purpose of this thesis is to examine how investments are justified in the Swedish data center industry, with a focus on cooling equipment. This is achieved through semi-structured interviews with 20 different interviewees. These interviewees represent different facets of the industry and facilitate an understanding of which factors, such as: investment costs, operating costs, reliability, environmental impact and the influence of external and internal actors, come into play and to which degree they impact the investment decision-making process. The results show that primarily low operating cost in the form of low energy consumption is the driving factor when it comes to the procurement of new equipment. A lower environmental impact is a positive side-effect of lower energy consumption. But alone it does not justify an additional investment. Data center downtime has a negative impact financially and can also adversely affect various functions critical to society. Therefore, the dependability of the equipment is still a priority, but reliability is now considered to have reached such a level that it is considered acceptable and the focus of development has shifted towards energy efficiency. The interview study is complemented by an investment-theory review of articles and books on related subject matter. This subject matter is linked directly or indirectly to disposition of investment in the data center industry. The framework developed from the review is then compared to the interview results. Results indicate that decision and investment theory in many cases can also be applied to data center investments. Theories that are more environmentally and socially oriented, such as Triple Bottom Line, are not consistent with the empirical data from the interviews. The investment decisions are also influenced by the current high availability and high reliability of data centers, which is the reason why the industry is rife with inertia, conservatism and skepticism to new solutions. Consequently, the parallel between data centers and high risk organizations, HRO, brought a new approach to how priorities are evaluated within HROs, namely that it is possible to combine high reliability with a low environmental impact. The results of the study are used as the basis to establish a marketing plan for the company SEE Cooling, a startup company that supplies cooling equipment. This marketing plan is based on the models for: Network analysis, Porter's five forces analysis, SWOT analysis and Kotler's marketing mix. The resulting marketing plan offers proposals on how SEE Cooling shall navigate their business network to overcome conservatism and promote their products, and illustrates potential difficulties.

▼ A comparative study between the techniques Bluetooth Low Energy and Bluetooth Classic has been performed in cooperation with Saab AB with the purpose to determine which technique is best suited for transmission of data between an Android unit and an embedded system. The parameters that has been analyzed are throughput, energy efficiency and susceptibility. The study has been performed in accordance with the method Design Science Research and has therefore produced an artefact in the form of a system that has been evaluated in an experiment where performance parameters have been measured and analyzed. The results show that BLE is more robust in environments with a high level of noise and can handle lower SNR levels than BR/EDR; 3 dB vs 7,5 dB. If enough transfer speed is reached, BLE would also give the best energy efficiency and if the specified maximum throughput is reached, BLE would, according to this study, have more than double the energy efficiency as BR/EDR. BLE is, according to most measures, preferable from Bluetooth version 5 and is future-proof but BR/EDR still provides the highest throughput.

▼ Behrn Arena in Örebro, Sweden, is an ice rink facility where the company is interested in ways of improving their current energy system in terms of energy efficiency. Currently, district cooling is purchased to reclaim the waste heat from the ice rink refrigeration system, which is further used as a heat source for local district heating distributor. In return, the cost of district heating is reduced. A techno-economic analysis was conducted where the current refrigeration and heating system in Behrn Arena was compared to three different scenarios. These were defined as the current refrigeration system with improved performance, the most common ice rink heating and refrigeration system in Sweden, and an ice rink with a trans-critical CO2-refrigeration system with heat recovery. Furthermore, alternatives to how the reclaimed heat may be utilized were investigated from an economic point of view. This included using the heat internally in the facility or selling the heat to a district heating distributor. From this study it was concluded that the current refrigeration system using district cooling as a heat sink, with the cost reductions, had a lower cost of operation relative to the typical ice rink in Sweden. Furthermore, a CO2-refrigeration system running in trans-critical operating conditions with two-stage heat recovery has potential of reducing the seasonal cost of energy of the current system with regards to heating and cooling by approximately 50 %. At the same time the heating demand coverage will be up to 89.5 %. Finally, selling heat to a district heating distributor proved to be unfavourable from a prosumer perspective if the waste heat could be utilised internally by the facility.
Behrn Arena i Örebro är en isrinkanläggning där intresse från fastighetsägaren finns för att förbättra det nuvarande energisystemet för ökad energieffektivitet. Det nuvarande systemet återvinner spillvärmen från kylaggregaten via det lokala fjärrkylanätet genom att anläggningen köper fjärrkyla. Spillvärmen används sedan som värmekälla för en värmepump som vidare distribuerar fjärrvärme. Ersättningen för att köpa fjärrkylan är en prissänkning av vad fastighetsägaren betalar för fjärrvärme. En teknoekonomisk analys genomfördes med syfte att jämföra det nuvarande kyloch värmesystemet med tre olika scenarier. ▼ Because of the harsh climate of Saudi Arabia, residential buildings on average, consume more than half of the total consumed energy. A substantial share of energy goes to the air-conditioning of buildings. Cooling buildings during summer is a major environmental problem in many Middle Eastern countries, especially since the electricity is highly dependent on fossil fuels. The aim of this study is to obtain a clearer picture of how various measures on the building envelope affects the buildings energy consumption, which can be used as a tool to save energy for buildings in the Middle East. In this study, different energy efficiency measures are evaluated using energy simulations in IDA ICE 4.7 to investigate how much energy can be saved by modifying the building envelope. A two-storey residential building with 247 m2 floor area is used for the simulations. The measures considered are; modifications of the external walls, modification of the roof, window type, window area/distribution, modification of the foundation, shading, exterior surface colour, infiltration rate and thermal bridges. All measures are compared against a base case where the building envelope is set to resemble a typical Saudi Arabian residential. First, all measures are investigated one by one. Thereafter, combinations of the measures are investigated, based on the results from single measure simulations. All simulations are carried out for two cities in Saudi Arabia, both with arid desert climate. Riyadh (midlands) with moderately cold winters and Jeddah (west coast) with mild winter. The results from simulations of single measures show the highest energy savings when changing the window type from single clear glass to double glass with reflective surface saving 27 % energy (heating & cooling) in Riyadh and 21 % in Jeddah. Adding insulation to an uninsulated roof saved up to 23 % and 21 % energy for Riyadh respectively Jeddah. Improvements of the thermal resistance of the exterior walls show 21 % energy savings in Riyadh and only 11 % in Jeddah. Lowering the window to wall ratio from 28 % to 10 % and changing the window distribution results in 19 % (Riyadh) and 17 % (Jeddah) energy savings. Adding fixed shades saves up to 8 % (Riyadh) and 13 % energy (Jeddah) when dimensioned for the peak cooling load. Using bright/reflective surface colour on the roof saves up to 9% (Riyadh) and 17 % (Jeddah) when the roof is uninsulated. For the exterior walls, bright/reflective surface saves up to 5 % (Riyadh) and 10 % (Jeddah) when the walls are uninsulated. The other single measures investigated show less than 7 % energy savings. The results for combined measures show the highest energy savings for two combined measures when improving the thermal resistance of the exterior walls and changing window area/distribution saving up to 52 % (Riyadh) and 39 % (Jeddah). Uppdragsgivaren för denna rapport är det svenska elbolaget Vattenfall AB. Där uppdraget är att identifiera marknadsmöjligheter för Vattenfall "Smart Energy Solutions" för målgruppen små och medelstora företag (SME). Syftet med denna forskning har varit att undersöka anpassningen som krävs mellan organisationen, "Smart Energy Solutions" och SME marknaden. Resultaten av denna forskning användes för att föreslå en strategi för utveckling av smarta energilösningar med inriktning på SME marknaden. Vid analys av egenskaperna hos "Smart Energy Solutions" och egenskaperna hos SME konstaterandes tre resultat. "Smart Energy Solutions" identifieras som "teknisk konfiguration". SME är heterogena till sin natur och kan därför inte mötas med enhetliga lösningar. Samt det tredje resultatet, baserat på de tidigare två resultaten, en strategi för hur framgångsrika innovationen "Smart Energy Solutions" ska rikta in sig i SME marknaden.
The long-stable eletric utility industry is undergoing major transformations. Regulatory frameworks, enviromental concerns, advancements in the renewable genration and ICT have caused severe pressure on the business model of conventional electric utilites. For these utilities; profit margins have declined considerably, large generation assests are being phased-out,and there is a pressing need to generate investments to meet the regulatory requirements. In search for new business opportunities, electric utilties are exploring new business areas, Smart Energy Solutions represent an emerging market, with untapped potentials. This research was commissioned by the Swedish electric utility Vattenfall AB, to identify market opportunities for Vattenfall Smart Energy Solutions, targetting the small and medium size enterprises SMEs. The purpose of this research has been to investigate the required alignment between the organization, Smart Energy Solutions and the SMEs market; the findings were used to propose a strategy for the development of Smart Energy Solutions targeting the SMEs. ▼ The advent of HTML5 (Hyper Text Markup Language revision 5) technologies are re-standardizing the web and paving the way for a new breed of real-time web applications. This has great potential for mobile browsers that are now supporting protocols such as WebSocket and Server-Sent Events (SSE). These protocols can provide ecient real-time communication in a scalable manner, especially for \always-on" applications requiring persistent connections that are now widely used. Mobile devices are inherently restricted due to their limited battery power and require frequent charging. Therefore, experimentation that potentially promotes breakthroughs in mobile energy eciency is useful at this time. Extensive measurements were conducted over 3G, 4G, and WiFi networks to analyze the performance of WebSocket and SSE across a variety of popular mobile devices, browsers, and platforms. Devices were connected to a power monitor for a precise understanding of the energetic effects of keep-alive mechanisms and their overall effects on long-lasting connectivity. The results reveal that application level keep-alive mechanisms are not necessary to sustain the connections indefinitely, given proper server and network congurations. However, to avoid timeouts and to detect prematurely disconnected clients, keep-alive exchanges are necessary and useful in practice. The effects of short and long keep-alive interval values are examined in detail for all devices. Browser performance varies widely as no browser was completely successful for both WebSocket and SSE tests. Further improvements in mobile browser support for these technologies will be necessary to reach the full potential of real-time applications in the future.

▼ Syftet med rapporten är att sammanställa branschbaserat underlag för värdering av hållbart byggande som belyser vikten för val av ytterväggskonstruktion till flerbostadshus. Byggbranschen har länge fokuserat på att minska byggnadsverks energi- och miljöpåverkan under förvaltningsskedet. Det har haft mycket goda resultat och i dagsläget står förvaltningsskedet för ca 50 procent av hållbara byggnaders totala energianvändning. Projektering med långsiktigt perspektiv är nyckeln till hållbart byggande eftersom små förändringar kan ha stor inverkan under längre tid. Detta medför ökad betydelse för effektivisering under byggskedet. Utvecklingen av hållbara byggnader har resulterat i framtagning av nollenergi- och passivhus. De byggkoncepten ställer högre krav på klimatskalets byggtekniska egenskaper. Klimatskalet innefattar tak, grund, fönster, dörrar och ytterväggar. Samtliga komponenter har stor inverkan på byggnadens egenskaper. Rapporten belyser endast betydelsefulla egenskaper och olika aspekter för hållbara ytterväggskonstruktioner och hur de skall värderas. Rapportens mål är att ta fram ett anpassningsbart bedömningsverktyg med värderingsunderlag från 9 olika aspekter. Aspekterna som bedöms är byggbarhet, brand, fukt, estetik, förvaltning, inomhusmiljö, energiförluster, livscykelkostnad och miljöpåverkan. Bedömningsverktyget visualiseras som en mall där poängsättning används för aspekterna vilket möjliggör tydliga jämförelser mellan konstruktioner. Fakta analyseras och hämtas från en litteraturstudie samt intervjuer med en byggnadskonstruktör, en brand- och en fuktkonsult. De ligger till grund för bedömningsverktygets utformning. För att kunna tillämpa bedömningsmallen i byggbranschen väljs 6 ytterväggskonstruktioner med olika uppbyggnad och egenskaper. De är anpassade för koncepthus med hållbart byggande och uppnår krav från Boverkets byggregler och Passivhuskonceptet. Ytterväggskonstruktionerna prövas i mallen och våra resultat visar att mallen kan tillämpas och åskådliggöra skillnader mellan konstruktionerna. Ytterväggarna erhåller ett generellt betyg samt ett viktat betyg som utgår från en anpassningsbar viktfaktor. Möjlighet för vidareutveckling finns för bedömningsmallen. Mallen är generell och tillämpningsbar på konstruktioner med andra egenskaper än de valda i rapporten. Rapporten indikerar på att mallen kan anpassas för att möjliggöra val av fördelaktiga konstruktioner för olika klimatzoner och beställarens ändamål.

▼ As the knowledge about anthropogenic impacts of
climate change has grown, the awareness of the contributions from
treatment of wastewater has widened the scope for wastewater
treatment plants (WWTPs). Not only shall ever stricter effluent
constraints be met, but also energy efficiency be increased,
greenhouse gases mitigated and resources recovered. All under a
constant pressure on costs. The main objective of this research has
been to develop a plant-wide modelling tool to evaluate the
performance of operational strategies for multiple objectives at
the plant and for off-site environmental impact. The plant-wide
model platform Benchmark Simulation Model no. 2 (BSM2) has been
modified to improve the evaluation of energy efficiency and include
greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the plant-wide process model
has been coupled to a life cycle analysis (LCA) model for
evaluation of global environmental impact. For energy evaluation, a
dynamic aeration system model has been adapted and implemented. The
aeration model includes oxygen transfer efficiency, dynamic
pressure in the distribution system and non-linear behaviour of
blower performance. To allow for modelling of energy recovery via
anaerobic co-digestion the digestion model of BSM2 was updated with
a flexible co-digestion model allowing for dynamic co-substrate
feeds. A feasible procedure for substrate characterisation was
proposed. Emissions of the greenhouse gases CO2, CH4 and N2O were
considered. The bioprocess model in BSM2 was updated with two-step
nitrification, four-step denitrification and nitrifier
denitrification to capture N2O production. Fugitive emissions of
the three gases were included from digestion, cogeneration and
sludge storage. The models were tested in case studies for the
three areas of development: aeration, co-digestion and greenhouse
gas production. They failed to reject the hypothesis that dynamic
process models are required to assess the highly variable
operations of wastewater treatment plants. All parts were combined
in a case study of the Käppala WWTP in Lidingö, Sweden, for
comparison of operational strategies and evaluation of stricter
effluent constraints. The averaged model outputs were exported to
an LCA model to include off-site production of input goods and
impact of discharged residues and wastes. The results reveal
trade-offs between water quality, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas
emissions and abiotic depletion of elemental and fossil resources.
The developed tool is generally applicable for WWTPs and the
simulation results from this type of combined models create a good
basis for decision support.

▼ The building and property sector stands for one third of the final energy usage in Sweden and this should be diminished, in order to reach goals within environmental sustainability. Glass is a poor thermal insulator but nevertheless a popular choice of material when constructing new buildings. The contradiction between need of energy efficiency and the wish for “glass buildings” led to the subject of this report. This Bachelor’s thesis examines how demands on energy efficiency is met in nine glass buildings in Stockholm. Glass buildings and the current legislation is discussed from a perspective of environmental sustainability. This was done by investigating the demands stated by Boverket from a historical perspective, executing quantitative measurements of heat transfer on elected objects, and interviewing stakeholders linked to the buildings and the Swedish legislation. The study shows that the construction of glass buildings has been possible due to a restructuring of the demands on energy efficiency and technical development. It was found, in most cases, that the shares of glass were in fact lower than apparent. A larger share of glass in the building envelope required creative measures to achieve energy solutions, within legislative demands. Nevertheless, the inlet of solar radiation heat is the greatest challenge. Despite the challenges, the desire for glass is rooted in well-being and aesthetic values, which insinuate that glass buildings will be included in the cityscape henceforth. The conclusions drawn from these results are that the energy performance of glass buildings is still weaker than conventional “solid wall buildings”. Enhancement regarding insulation abilities and improvements of excluding solar radiation must be realized to strengthen the environmental sustainability of this category of buildings.
Bygg- och fastighetssektorn står för en tredjedel av den slutliga energianvändningen i Sverige, vilken måste minimeras för att nå miljömässiga hållbarhetsmål. Att bygga i glas är populärt bland moderna byggnader, trots att glas har relativt låg termisk isolationsförmåga. Motsättningen mellan behovet av energieffektivitet och efterfrågan på “glashus” skapade ämnet för denna rapport. Detta kandidatexamensarbete utforskar hur energieffektivitetskrav möts i nio olika glasbyggnader i Stockholm. Glashus och nuvarande lagstiftning diskuteras ur ett miljömässigt hållbarhetsperspektiv. Detta gjordes genom undersökningar av Boverkets krav ur ett historiskt perspektiv, kvantitativa mätningar av värmeflöden, samt intervjuer med aktörer kopplade till byggnaderna och svensk bygglagstiftning. ▼ CMAX and max-min zPmin are two packet forwarding techniques designed to save energy wireless ad-hoc networks. Their aim is to forward packets in such a way that the network's energy is conserved better than if they were forwarded along the path with the least count of hops (i e using the traditional forwarding technique). This master thesis compares the two energy efficient forwarding techniques against each other and, against a least-hop scheme. The comparison is made by simulation in static networks using the Network Simulator (ns-2). Hence this thesis also shows that simulation of more abstract “routing protocols”, such as these bare packet forwarding techniques, can be performed in ns-2. CMAX and max-min zPmin are thus implemented as routing modules of ns-2, along with a least-hop technique. The work here is only concerned about the packet forwarding procedure itself, and because of this the implementations are somewhat centralized, or omnipotent: Each node is allowed to know the exact position of every other node in the network at all times. For disseminating battery updates limited-flooding is employed, a method which uses the idea of only propagating information a certain distance from the information source. ns-2 is also extended with all the necessary features that are needed by the algorithms, such as mechanisms to enable nodes gather global information from existing data structures, support for variable signaling range and a signaling range dependent energy consumption model. The work is described in detail and decisions are backed up with references to aid the understanding of it and make it easier to use, both as a product and a foundation. The simulations here only examine static networks where the nodes never move from their initial position. In this setting, using a “fair random traffic model”, they indicate that the energy efficient algorithms perform better than the shortest path scheme when the network is sparse and, that CMAX performs better than max-min zPmin. Performance is measured by both looking at network lifetime and how much user data the schemes manage to successfully carry from source to sink. This booklet contains a summary of other interesting approaches that aim to conserve energy in a wireless network, such as different methods to perform topology control and hierarchical routing. There is also a proposition of a new cluster based energy efficient algorithm that is based on ideas collected from some of the summarized schemes.

▼ During renovation Ljusåret 2 was converted to a modern office with an activity based work style (ABW) with a Demand Controlled Volume (DCV) ventilation system connected to a closed-loop duct. Cooling is provided through air handling units and active water based beams, the underfloor heating system was kept. Written instruction and specification have been studied for the two different control systems Schneider EcoStructure and Lindinspect. Both control systems have been analyzed according to time schedule, set-point and process value by using different functions in software. To be able to perform a energy audit and look at indoor climate for Ljusåret 2 there have been studies according to underfloor heating, constructions of ventilation system, diversity factor for DCV, closed-loop-ducts, heat losses from ducts, cooling demand and energy certification. According to this audit, energy performance is calculated to 89.1 kWh/m2 according to building energy, activity energy is not audited or calculated. During design phase, an energy calculation was made by an energy consultant with the result of 81.3 kWh/m2. The estimated performance is a 9.6 % increase. This building is designed for Miljöbyggnad certification of level silver and should be ≤ 109 kWh/m2,year. According to audit and calculation for energy performance this level is possible to keep. The estimated energy performance have been calculated with only 4 month of statistics from January until April 2019 because Ljusåret 2 have just been renovated. District heating has been estimated through the energy signature by data from energy meter. Electrical components for the building have been measured and energy usage calculated. Energy produced by compression chiller have been estimated with calculated performance from design phase and adding heat transfer between rooms and supply ducts. Energy between rooms and supply ducts were not included in energy calculation during the design phase. According to the control system for the DCV system there have been some issues with high temperature in supply ducts even when they are supplied with 15 ºC from air- handling unit. There have been measurement to the ventilation system 5701-5704 that is connected to a close-loop duct with a result of temperatures between 15.2 ºC up to 21.4 ºC and the velocity has varied between 0.05-2.1 m/s in different measurement spots. This is an increase of 6.4 ºC. A heat transfer calculation have been made in Paroc Calculus to estimate heat transfer between room and supply ducts. The results of this calculation indicates the same level of temperature increases as when the system was measured. With no thermal insulation cooling capacity is lost to half after less than 5 m with a velocity of 0.2 m/s, after 15 m with a velocity of 1 m/s and 30 m with a velocity of 2 m/s . This should be compared with supply duct with 20 mm of thermal insulation that has lost its cooling capacity after less than 13 m with a velocity of 0.2 m/s,…

▼ Mjölkindustrin tillhör en av världens största industrier, och är den snabbaste växande sektorn inom jordbruksnäring. Varje år produceras cirka 800 miljoner ton mjölk världen över, varav svenskar årligen konsumerar cirka 150 kg mejeriprodukter per person. Framställningen av mejeriprodukter innefattar ett flertal processer som kräver stora mängder energi, främst i form av ånga till upphettning av mjölk och vatten samt elektricitet till kylning. Anledningen till att mjölken genomgår diverse behandlingar är framförallt för att döda skadliga bakterier och sporer men också ur kvalitetssynpunkt. För att möta de miljömässiga utmaningar vi står inför krävs att nya hållbara lösningar utvecklas och implementeras. Enligt miljöbalken ska verksamheter använda förnybara energikällor i den utsträckning det är möjligt, återvinning av värme skall nyttiggöras och det ska hushållas med såväl energi som andra resurser. Wermlands Mejeri, beläget i Värmlands Nysäter, startade sin verksamhet i september 2015. Mejeriet framställer dagligen 18 400 liter lättmjölk, mellanmjölk, standardmjölk och grädde, med målet att till augusti 2016 dubbla produktionen med samma sortiment. Syftet med del I av denna studie är att utföra en energikartläggning för att bestämma mejeriets totala energibehov samt hur behovet är fördelat på diverse processer. Energiinventeringens syfte utöver att skapa insikt i hur energianvändningen är fördelad är att ligga som grund för jämförelser med liknande anläggningar. På så vis kan en uppfattning om förbättringspotential erhållas. Vid jämförelser mellan olika anläggningar har nyckelvärdet specifik energikonsumtion, SEC, använts. SEC definieras som använd energi dividerat med den totala produktionsvolymen och kan appliceras på en delprocess eller en hel produktionsanläggning. Analyser av energianvändning och effektiviseringspotential har utförts genom termodynamiska beräkningar, fysiska mätningar, simuleringar och ingenjörsmässiga uppskattningar. Enligt den kartläggning som gjorts förbrukar Wermlands mejerier idag 1141 MWh per år, vilket motsvarar ett SEC-värde på 0,19 kWh/liter mjölkprodukt. Vid en fördubbling av produktionen skulle energianvändningen öka till 1570 MWh per år och SEC-värdet reduceras till 0,13 kWh/l varav värmebehovet representerar 0,09 kWh/l. Två svenska referensanläggningar som använts vid jämförelser har ett totalt SEC-värde på 0,11 respektive 0,12 kWh/liter mjölkprodukt där värmebehovets SEC-värde är 0,05 respektive 0,06 kWh/l. Syftet med del två av studien är således att belysa förbättringspotential genom reducerat värmebehov och ånganvändande. Målet är att presentera åtgärder som sänker och tillgodoser energibehovet utan förbränning av fossila bränslen. Resultatet visar att bränslebehovet kan reduceras från 105 till 782 MWh/år med olika åtgärder. Bränslekostnaden utan åtgärder antas vid dubblad produktion uppgå till drygt 750 000 SEK per år.
