▼ Climbing has been part of human nature since time
immemorial, our ancestors used it to escape predators, to flee from
flooding valleys, to gather food and to move to new territories.
However it was not until the middle 1700’s that man started to use
climbing not as a means to ensure survival, but as a source of
pleasure and desire to climb and explore. For almost two centuries
climbing has evolved through, what has often been referred to as a
trial and error method, into a state of the art, modern day sport
with various sub disciplines like sport climbing, trad - climbing,
ice climbing, free climbing and bouldering. In its purest form it
is one of the most awe inspiring sports to watch and take part in,
and for those select few that dedicate their lives to it, it is a
means to make a living, and a way to live on into eternity. Over
the past 15 years climbing has become a widely practised and one of
the fastest growing sports around the world, and is practised by
people from all walks of life, from pre-primary school children
right through to retired pensioners, from unemployed students to
the most successful business men and women. With this growing
interest among the population there also came a growing interest in
the use of climbing for various other purposes like psycho-therapy,
rehabilitation, team building. But more importantly, for this
study, it has urged the researcher to ask what are the
discursive
resources and
strategies that are employed by modern day climbers,
seeing as the climbing community consists of such a large variety
of people. This study was done from a
Discursive Psychology
perspective, and was strongly influenced by the work of Jonathan
Potter and Derek Edwards, as well as the work of the Rhetoric Group
from Loughborough University. The
Discursive Psychology approach
focuses on management and accomplishment of action and interaction
through talk. Discourse is viewed as a resource that functions to
accomplish action and
Discursive Analysis focuses on the manner
that
discursive resources are being employed to achieve certain
actions in interaction. For
Discursive Psychology it is important
to view both the material context and embodiment as important in
the construction of action. So too in Rock Climbing are these two
aspects very important and very relevant because of the prominence
of physical activity in the sport. The research focused on how
climbers talk during climbing and what
discursive resources and
strategies they employ during rock climbing discourses. The most
prominent of these resources and
strategies that were found in the
analysis were laughter, pauses and delays, intensifiers ( words
that are used to emphasize and pinpoint other words), loud uttering
of words, change-of-state tokens, disclaimers, discourse markers,
extreme case formulations, agreement-implicative acknowledgement
tokens, hedge words / devices, speech-overlapping, previous
experiences, and footing. This research hopes to offer alternative
explanations in sport and psychology, by studying naturally
occurring…

▼ In this work, the argumentative
strategies construction in university entrance examinations texts is analyzed. The study intended to present, through the analyzed occurrences in the corpus, the
discursive strategies use for the argumentation construction, observing the different lexicalization forms and the effects that these
strategies produced for the intended meaning construction. Aiming to analyze the modalization via texts written by candidates for the UFRN entrance examination, the relations between this category and the resources used for the argumentative guidance of the text were highlighted. Conceived as a speaker argumentative strategy to express his/her relationship with the proposition content which enunciates, the modalization is, thus, one of the linguistic expression form used for the attainment of intended meaning effects in the argumentation construction. In order to substantiate the research, the theoretical assumptions adopted were the propositions which deal with this linguistic category, guiding it to a pragmatic-semantic perspective as well as a
discursive-semantic one. Hence, Neves ( 1996, 2006), Koch ( 2000, 2002), Cervoni ( 1989), Bronkart (1999) and Castilho; Morais de Castilho (1996) studies, among others founded this work. Afterwards, a contextualized analysis of the modalized statements, taking into account all the set of elements implied on the argumentation construction, was carried out. The research, which had a strict qualitative character, revealed that the candidates make use of modalization to express commitment or dissociation as regards the statement which they produce; to obtain credibility and provide more authority to their arguments, thus avoiding them of being contested; to impose their arguments as real ones and acquire acceptance of the interlocutor; to lessen the proposition content and disguise the knowledge source; to comment the enunciation and attribute the discourse to another sender; to establish a dialogic relation with the interlocutor. In addition to offering support for new investigations, the research also aims to contribute for the mother tongue teaching, emphasizing the need of a focus which provides special attention to the written language functioning and its application diversity.

In contemporary society, the meaning of diabetes mellitus is associated with a pathological conception, linked to…

This paper analyzes the senses and the discursive strategies of environmental newsmagazines in order to investigate how the notion of environment is built for them. Considering that journalism formats reality - selecting agendas, approaches and ways to make this knowledge an understandable social discourse - it is known that four different environmental publications ('Terra da Gente', 'Mãe Terra', 'Sustenta!' and 'Aquecimento Global') will bring different perspectives of an environmental vision, although they intend to address the same subject. To delineate the similarities and differences between the magazines, we decided to use in a free way the theoretical and methodological framework of French Discourse Analysis. The intention is to look for affiliations of sense, extracted from Discoursives Formations (DFs), defined according to the literature which discusses the environment, and evidences about the possible senses in titles of the mentioned magazines, and also the discursive strategies that move the intentions of the producers thinking about the receivers. Considering the context and the external difficulties in the production, there is a focus in environmental journalism present in the magazine as a vehicle, because of a privileged space for interpretation and the dedication that the theme receives. This research indicates that each magazine built a particular discourse about the environment, but the DF Ecossocial is predominant in the samples. The analysis also demonstrates the regular use of strategies to reach the reader and to…

This paper aims to discuss issues concerning the construction of ethos in presidential political discourse. In the process, the objective is to highlight the discursive strategies that allowed Vargas to formulate a populist speech as well as providing a new image, tuned to the new context of democratic opening that was introduced in Brazil since the 1945 elections. As a theoretical contribution, we use basically the work of Charaudeau (2006 and 2008), Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (1999 [1958]), Aquino (1997); Weffort (1980) and Laclau (2009). In order to verify the applicability of these theories, we selected seven speeches by Getulio Vargas between 1952 and 1953, which constitutes the corpus of analysis.

This dissertation aims to show the sociopolitical issues that characterized the 2006 presidential campaign in Mexico, as well as the discursive strategies used by the two main contenders, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Felipe Calderón Hinojosa. By putting the election back into the context of the authoritarian regime ending and the democratic transition in Mexico, we will show up to what point the 2006 election is part of the continuous political and social changes that have been happening since the 1970’s and can be defined at the same time as a particular case in this process. The particularity of this election results from the very uncertain result of the ballot, the first confrontation in the contemporary Mexican history between a right-wing party and a left-wing coalition and the discursive strategies the contenders resorted to in order to make their supporters join them and to appeal to the floating voters. This conflictive election breaks off the way political power was passed on during the authoritarian regime, and takes shape through the candidates’speeches, particularly the political massive events. They reflect the Mexican situation and contribute to create some representation of Mexico and his political players as a result of language twists. The study of the contenders’ discursive strategies brings to the light the persuasion and legitimation processes that characterize their speeches and make clear their linkswith the political and…

▼ This thesis concerns itself with the notion of a networked or cooperating library and the discursive means by which it is constructed in documents related to the formation of a national strategy of libraries in Sweden. I study the draft as presented by the national library, Kungliga Biblioteket (KB), in early 2018, the comments and advice submitted by different parts of the library sector during the fall of 2018 as well as the final proposition handed over to the Minister of Culture in March 2019. The study focuses on what defines or constitutes a networked library, on the significance of a networked library for the perceived identity of libraries and library professionals and finally, on what grounds a networked library is ascribed legitimacy or is subject to criticism. This is worth investigating because of the calls for increased collaboration and coordination of different parts of the library sector and its implications for the professional identity as well as the wider understanding of what a library is and what a library does. The method of approach is a thematic document analysis informed by discourse studies. Discursive strategies are used as the main analytic tool. Strategies are adopted from the critical vein of discourse analysis (CDA) but are applied here in a way consistent with poststructuralist discourse theory and its ontological assumptions. The results show that the library sector is going through a dilemma of redefining, adjusting, modernizing, and broadening the meaning of libraries or keeping with a long-standing tradition that not always corresponds with the library practices of today. This tradition is subject to changing conditions – not least due to the digital transformation – as much as it remains a firm ground for legitimizing the professional field. A networked library requires a stale image to be left behind in favor of a collaborative library infrastructure, extending its meaning towards a library identity which adheres to the conditions of a networked world. In conclusion, a networked library is found in the middle-ground between a traditional identity and creating a new story about libraries.

Discursive strategies used by political parties in the Bahraini Council of Representatives : a critical discourse analysis of religious ideologies in politic language.

▼ This study attempts to present the relations between discourse and ideology in debates taking place in the Bahraini Council of Representatives. It uses critical discourse analysis (CDA) and the Sociocognitive Approach (SCA) to ground the theoretical claims in the idea that Shiite members of parliament (MPs) in the Bahraini Council of Representatives employ discursive strategies differently from Sunni MPs. To test this hypothesis, the research aims first to observe whether, and if so how, the Sunni parties and the Shiite party employ discursive devices and strategies differently to achieve three ideological goals: attempting to gain political advantage discursively in parliamentary debates on topics related to dissent control and political freedom; manoeuvring the definitions of self and others in the contexts of dissent control and political rights; and manipulating the law to support one’s party’s and/or sectarian affiliation’s ideological stances about dissent-controlling laws and the definition of political freedom and political rights. The second aim of the research is to explore whether and how the use of discursive devices and strategies reflects the sectarian ideological conflict in Bahrain. The research critically analyses excerpts on dissent control and personal freedom from the Hansard of the Bahraini Council of Representatives. The research first marks discursive devices used by MPs. It then identifies discursive strategies. The research detects three major discursive strategies that are fulfilled by using the devices and called them ‘corroborating by information’; ‘intensifying grievance’; and ‘centralising pride and dignity’. The analysis shows that some discursive devices are used more intensively, though not exclusively, under certain strategies. The research also notes that the Shiite party, Al Wefaq, employs the strategy of intensifying grievance more often than other strategies. The Al Wefaq members demonstrate more tendency toward objecting than do the other parties to the dissent control in Bahrain. The research relates this tendency to the ideologies of Shi’ism as a religious and political institution that heavily relies on the ideology of protest and the feeling of injustice and discrimination. Finally, the research provides a preview of the use of identified strategies during the unrest that started in Bahrain in February 2011.

The present work focus the discursive strategies and the meanings ascribed to green by the newspaper Zero Hora, aiming to research how it is built and insert in the social imaginary. For this purpose, there were selected as a corpus of this research the news produced by Zero Hora during the last four years that contained the expression “green plastic”, referring the implementation of the new industrial plant of Braskem in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The theorectical ground was structured under three axis: Journalism, Green and Discourse. Journalism was discussed under the constructive view, as a place of construction, selection and configuration of the complex of knowledge of the society; under the discursive view, considering the text as a discourse, for its historicity and possible framing; and under the environmental view, that considers journalism compromised with the public interests, in a ethical and citizenhood way. Analysis of Discourse was chosen for its specific techniques of identifying Discursive Formations, pointing to the silences and discursive strategies that give movement to the producers of the news. The research indicated the prevalence of the ecotheocratic discourse which, through the reaffirmation of the silences, attributes to green a vision allied with the commercial interests, outdoiong of the original ecological meanings.

This research aimed to analyze in the work Amazona, by the brazilian writer Sérgio Sant Anna, how new forms of contemporary literature are taking advantage of serialized procedures representation, typical of speeches and/or vehicles from the scope of mass culture. The first chapter seeks to situate the literary writing of Amazona within a cultural background in process of depletion, which operates the weakening of the illustrated models of representation and enables the emergence of new literary forms, which stand for the appropriation, the deviation, the rewriting, the secondary status, the simulation. In the second chapter, which deals with the discursive procedures of hybridization present in Amazona, the aim is to highlight the influence, in the narrative fabrication of the novel, of images and compositional procedures typically feuilletonistic, mapping the ways in which the narrative resembles and conforms to address this serialized discourse of this entertainment literature. From this considerations, it becomes possible, then, already in the last chapter, to determine how the narrative appropriates these discourses in order to recycle then and reframes them, as they…

▼ With this work, we will seek; in general, analyze the underlying interaction process in the

discursive phenomena that allow the preservation of order in the interactional conversational
exchanges between interlocutors 'interactional roles" (Kerbrat-Orecchioni, 2004:16) in separate
interviews for selection and demonstrate the power of language based on the

▼ In this dissertation, I examine the evolution of the green chemistry movement from its inception in the early 1990s to the present day. I focus my study on the
discursive strategies employed by leaders of the movement to establish green chemistry and to develop and institute changes in the practice of the chemical sciences. The study looks specifically at three different
strategies. The first is the construction of a historical narrative. This history comes from the intersection of the chemical sciences with environmentalism in the United States retold to place chemistry in a central position for understanding global environmental health issues and green chemistry as the natural response to these problems. The second involves the attempts made to develop a concrete definition for green chemistry as well as a set of guiding principles for the practice of this alternative form of chemistry. The establishment of the definition and the principles, I argue, constitutes an important move in constituting the field as a very specific interdisciplinary group with a forged identity and the beginnings of a system for determining what properly â countsâ as green chemistry. The third comes from the intersection of this history within the defining principles of the movement intersect to create a specific set of green chemistry practices, and how these practices manifest themselves in conference and pedagogical settings. Finally, I offer an overview of where the movement currently stands, offering a critical perspective on the future potential of the field. I argue that recent episodes indicate that the movement has not succeeded in accomplishing what it set out to do, and will continue to encounter problems unless a refashioning of the movement takes place. To offer perspective on green chemistry as a movement, I examine it through the lens of other (e.g., Frickel and Gross 2005) attempts to explore scientific movements as a special class of social movements.

▼ Climate science and the effective public communication of it havebecome increasingly vital in a world that is changing atan unprecedentedrate. For many scientists and journalists, the Internet hasgrown to be the preferred medium of climate science communication. As the issues thattextsabout climate changedeal with are ratherpressing, it is crucial that thescientific knowledge is recontextualized for non-expert audiencesin the mosteffectiveand engaging way. Science communicatorshave rhetorical strategiesof recontextualization and discursive strategies of newsworthinessat their disposal to achieve the desired science communicationand ultimately createan inclusive and engaging discourse with theirreaders. This qualitative study is a comparative analysis of two different typesof writers:scientists and journalists. The analysis of onlinetexts about climate change, written by these two types of writers, showsthat scientists and journalists employ many of the same strategies.Nonetheless, the findings reveal distinct differences in how extensively certain strategies are/ are not used.Generally, the scientists recontextualized the scientific knowledge in a more personalizedand inclusivemanner. The journalists, in turn, made use of more discursive strategies of newsworthiness. This qualitative comparative studyalsoprovides a novel analytical framework for further studies of the same kind.

▼ For the first time, in 2010, FIFA World Cup arrived in the planet‟s poorest continent, the South Africa, and this place became the focus of the world, arousing the imagination of every side of the world about the football and the culture of this country. By the creation of so many different feelings, evaluations, values and socio-cultural discourses in relation to the past editions of the event, this paper makes use of the SemiolinguÃstica studies, part of the Discourse Analysis‟ scope, applying the views of Patrick Charaudeau, for a specific approach. The purpose of this research is to present and analyze discursive clippings with a social-cultural-political aspect presented by three newspapers â Folha de S. Paulo, A Bola and Jornal dos Desportos â from three different countries â Brazil, Portugal and Angola, respectively â in the previous months of FIFA World Cup‟s happening, in order to answer to the following questions: what are the strategies applied and the discourses built about South Africa? From the standpoint of the newspapers, did South Africa become the focus of this event or what was remained was a Eurocentric perspective, referring to the headquarters of the competition as a periphery of the developed world? To achieve this answers, in this research it will be approached subjects like the communication contract, discursive strategies and modes of discourse organization, in order to uncover the discursive purposes of the texts that comprise the corpus of this research.

▼ The present paper is inserted in the qualitative research perspectives that aim to analyze the practices of interactive discourse in specific contexts and the negotiation process of the image during English activities, promoted in a class of graduate students of Languages course at the Federal University of Alagoas. In light of contemporary researchers who advocate an interactional approach in foreign language classroom (KRAMSCH, 1993, 2006, TAVARES, 2006), we draw our attentions to how the discursive strategies (GUMPERZ, 1982; CAZDEN, 2001; TAVARES, 2007) are built during the interactive practices among students of foreign language (FL) and how facework is developed (GOFFMAN, 1981; BROWN e LEVINSON, 1987) during these interactions. The theme of this research moves around the language and social aspects in teaching and learning of FL. The central points of the survey are based on discussions between language, interaction and education on the theoretical principles of sociolinguistics. With the lessons analysis it was realized the importance of creating activities that might lead to the commitment of the learner during the discussions. Even the image needed to be negotiated, the use of discursive strategies identified in the classroom has enabled a greater integration of teachers with students during interactive activities.

▼ This research emerges from the necessity to rethink the teaching of Portuguese language in schools. More specifically, it is discussed the importance of taking the linguistic analysis as a standard practice in Portuguese teaching Among the various linguistic aspects to be approached in the classroom, this study considers the factors that contribute to the writing of the text, focusing on the reference process. The proposed research turns therefore to the bond that is established in the texts and the possibility of creating and recreating the facts and to (re) construct meaning through the reference process, which explains how the producer of the text shows the surrounding world, filtered by symbolic (cf. KOCH, ELIAS, 2006). Because of the nature of this work, it was necessary to narrow even more the object of study. Thus, among the elements that enable the (re) construction of discursive (MONDADA, DUBOIS, 2003), we decided to investigate the anaphors, especially the associative anaphor, focusing on the relations of meronymy, metonymy as well as the synonyms. It starts from the assumption that the linguistic approach can contribute to the formation of readers and writer of authentic texts in the classroom, since it occupies an important function in the text and it is responsible to print out the directions to reveal intentions, values and positions that the writer of the text wants to express. To see how this linguistic strategy contributes to the meaning (s) was selected as a corpus of analysis the short story O defunto, by EÃa de Queiros. It was considered this genre because it is worked repeatedly in reading classes and represents the language in daily uses. Besides showing socially constructed situations, the short story offers to students the opportunity to experience different cultures and expand the boundaries of their world and encyclopedic knowledge. From this selection, we attempted to assess how the selected associative anaphor show judgments established by the author and guide the interpretation of the text. Supporting this analysis the authors involved in the study of the reference among them Koch (2005a, 2005b, 2008a, 2008b), Koch and Elias (2006), Cavalcante (2005a, 2005b), Cavalcante, Rodrigues and Ciulla ( 2003), Marcuschi (2005, 2007a), Mondada and Dubois (2003) and ApothÃloz-BÃguelin and Reichler (1995). Also utilized the works dealing with the question of genre (Bakhtin, 1992; MARCUSCHI, 2005, 2007b; DIONÃSIO, AX and Bezerra, 2007), the short story (JOLLA, 1976; BORDINI and AGUIAR, 1993), and specifically tale Lusitanian (MOSES, 1974, 1994).

In the current context, companies from many s egments try to show themselves sensitive to the problems that affect society as a whole. In the communication area, one can notice the release of media products that highlight the company s social responsibility, through possible traces of self promotion. In the case of media companies, it is known that these always promoted themselves: they don t talk anything without talking about themselves before. Based on these observations, this study aims to verify, through a methodological process based on Greimasia n semiotics, the role developed by a regional station, affiliated to a national, when it enables, in it s productions, the joint between social and promotional. This is possible by examining the discursive strategies of the order of temporalization, themat ization, figurativization, actorialisation and toning, and communicative strategies, external to the text, employed by RBS TV station for this purpose. For this, it was made an approximation of "social" and "promotional" terms, employed by commercial broad casters who want greater sustainability in the market. The body of the analysis is composed by nine videos (socio-institutional actions) of five social campaigns develope d by the company, Rede Brasil Su l de Televisão, in a nine year interval. The choice of the afilliate of Rede Globo de Televisão is justified by the peculiarities of the broadcasters that need to…

determinada a partir do contexto.
1. como é construída linguisticamente a atenuação no discurso dos interlocutores;
construção do seu discurso;
participantes;

This thesis is about sociological and technical devices of communication. From the observation of mediatics practices from teenagers, and more specifically their enunciatives productions on two different devices, represented by blogs and newspapers produced at school, the comparison of language materiality enabled us to approach this corpus of utterances with a scientific process. The theme of love was retained as the more unifying to rally both devices and take an interest about teenagers’ productions. Our analyze made up some convergence points between these devices, reflecting the existence of discursive practices specific to teenagers, but it also rose some differences in terms of discursive conditions, enabling to approach the communicative specific practices related to each situation, according to the constrains and possibilities offered by each device. The first part…

▼ This project centers on the advocacy of undocumented immigrant youth to realize the passage of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, a narrowly tailored bipartisan legislation that would provide qualifying undocumented youth a pathway to citizenship. Using a Latino/a Critical Race framework to address socio-political discourses surrounding the immigration debate, my analysis presents the ways undocumented youth communicated about their identity and agency and the ways they constructed their demands publicly in seeking passage of the DREAM Act during the years 2001 to 2010.
This research purposefully departs from the traditional modality of research and conceptualizes political work as centered in the research process. To conduct this research, I spent eleven months of fieldwork participating with DREAM activist groups in California, New Mexico, and other states nationally. The data was drawn from an estimated 400 hours of fieldwork, 10 in-depth personal interviews of activists in leadership positions, and secondary accounts of the DREAM youth movement.
This study's findings point to three progressive phases of the DREAM social movement, with unique internal and external
strategies used to advocate for social change. The first phase covers 2001 through 2007, where self-identification
strategies were used to create a collective group identity that countered the negative dehumanizing typecast of "illegal aliens" by identifying DREAMers as exceptional students. During the second phase, from 2007 to 2009, self-representation
strategies worked to unite undocumented youth through the creation of national coalitional organizations and through self-identification as undocumented and unafraid. During the third phase, spanning the months from May to December 2010, participating activists utilized
strategies of self-reliance and self-identified as unapologetic DREAMers. The
strategies of intervention included the use of civil disobedience tactics to petition for the legislation. This study points to a progressive sense of vocality, agency, and empowerment for the DREAM-eligible youth involved in this social movement. Finally, this study offers a discussion about the current state of the DREAM Act and includes suggestions and implications for the future of the social movement.

▼ This study sought to examine linguistic and
discursive strategies used to construct messages reflective of the implementation of the HIV and AIDS policy for Zimbabwe of 1999 by government and private newspapers. Such analysis was perceived to be important since media content has a bearing on Zimbabweans‘ perception and attitudes regarding HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment and control. The study was aimed at comparing messages from newspapers with views by the people of Zimbabwe regarding the implementation of the policy. Findings reveal that empowerment programmes particularly those targeting women and children are lagging behind as Zimbabweans, literature and newspaper data sources testify. In addition, information sources concur that cultural (For example, stigmatisation, polygamy, religious practices, spouse inheritance) and structural (For example, patriarchy, masculinity, bureaucracy, politics) are stumbling blocks that negatively affect the implementation of the policy. Further, even though private and government newspapers do not fully agree on the portrayal of human agents, there is a general consensus between newspaper reports and Zimbabweans that people still face socio-economic and econo-political challenges that militate against the smooth implementation of the HIV and AIDS policy. Government newspapers tend to downplay aspects which reveal inadequacies of government activities. The study notes this as betrayal of use of ideological squares both by government and private newspapers whereby certain aspects regarding the implementation of the policy are either downplayed or highlighted to influence perception. The study reveals that newspaper reports used nominalisation, quantification, positive politeness, thematisation, rhematisation, intertextuality, euphemism, proverbs, idioms, action verbs, metaphors and citation of experts as linguistic and
discursive strategies both for agenda setting and building purposes regarding the implementation of the HIV and AIDS policy. Other devices used particularly in the encoding of Operation Murambatsvina are, claptraps, deictic referencing, personal pronouns, adjectives and direct speech. The study attributes problems regarding the Zimbabwean HIV and AIDS intervention model to the top – down approach inherent in the policy. Hence, the call for an adoption of an unhu/hunhu/ubuntu inspired bottom – up HIV and AIDS intervention model in Zimbabwe. This would inculcate pro-family, pro-village, pro-nation/people and ―servant leadership‖ (Mangena and Chitando, 2011) values in the fight against the pandemic through the embracing of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS). Unfortunately, such values largely continue to elude the radar of the current top – down HIV and AIDS intervention model cuurently in use in Zimbabwe.

This study intends to determine what discursive strategies and by what frequency each strategy has been used in the memes of the movement “No a Keiko” to express the political resistance discourse against Keiko Fujimori before the second round of presidential elections in Peru (2016). With this purpose, the 50 most shared memes from the Facebook-page “No a Keiko” were selected (published between 11th of April 2016 and 4th of June 2016), which contained both visual and verbal modes.Afterwards, the material was analysed with the Critical Discourse Analysis, with reference to the discursive strategies of the ideological discourse proposed by Van Dijk (2003a); with the multimodality, specifically, making use of the four strata suggested by Kress and Van Leeuwen (2001) and with the phenomenon of impoliteness, with reference to the impoliteness strategies formulated by Blas Arroyo (2001).The results indicate that the cyberactivist collective “No a Keiko” employed 18 discursive strategies in their memes, which are divided in 12 discursive strategies of the ideological discourse, four strategies of impoliteness and two further discursive strategies (to appeal to love for one´s country and to make a request of the Peruvian people). Besides, it was observed that the three most used strategies were <em>to associate Keiko Fujimori with…

▼ The object of this thesis is to describe, analyze
and understand the terms and meanings of the public information and
the political communication for local democracy, in today´s media
landscape, out of the interaction between the main parties of the
local society in Sjöbo and Ystad and from the stand point of
earlier research and theories. The study has analyzed the actions
performed by citizens, politicians, employees and journalists as
well as the scenes for this information and communication. The
interplay is a never ending power struggle between the three
parties, concerning the accessibility of information and
communication, especially to the kind that is given and takes place
in informal, nonofficial rooms and channels which are not publicly
accessible. Theories by M Weber, E Goffman, Z Bauman, M Foucault, J
Habermas etc are being used. Case study method has given rise to
three themes. The first describes how the increasing demands of
rationalization, are displayed in the everyday practice, how it
manifests in the interaction between the three parties, where
processes of rationalization undermine the possibilities of
dialogue. The second theme describes how the three parties use
different strategies in order to obtain or keep the power of the
information and the communication and thus the power of the
politics, how the definitions of the main parties can be
deconstructed and how the power can shift from one actor to
another, depending on available power positions. Those in power
withdraw themselves from communication with the citizens in
different ways,by the use of different power techniques, which
leads to a dynamic resistance where both journalists and citizens
work out counter strategies. The public speech about the need to
revitalize the civic sphere has been prominent for a long time. The
third theme thus describes this promising speech of the public
information and the political communication, how it has been
handled and what the consequences are. The empirical material
displays that the holders of the traditional power positions, tend
to polish this visible side. The cosmetic considerations have
proved to be the most significant ones in the studied practice and
do play a significant part in the contemporary discursive practice
as well as it terms the public information and the political
communication. Those in power try to project the cosmetic democracy
and the speech of new opportunities, on democracy, on the
importance of communication and information and of participating,
have become necessary ingredients in the cosmetic democracy, which
is increasing. This does not mean that all democracy being
exercised is cosmetic. Nevertheless, the surface and the speech of
democracy become more distant from the content, by all the talk of
its splendid qualities.
