▼ An overview of transmedia experiments in which the body and experience is shown dematerialized through character play and reconfigured, into multiple consumable and interactive gestures of isolated fetishization or form. By questioning gender assumptions within secure networks of policy driven performative expectation, form is made. Investigating the values that drive fetishization and form significance in direct violation of accepted data sets, this work leverages intersectional data or generative power, towards solutions requested by the cyborg or humyn condition of bondage to technologized power.

The mundane and manufactured object has taken an increasing place on the artistic scene since its irruption, by the act of Marcel Duchamp in 1913. From 1913 to nowadays, this object is problematic: 1/ because it is both an everyday thing and a piece of art; 2/ because, when it is exhibited, it is submitted to a device of communication which simultaneously reveals and creates the meaning; 3/ because more the object is reducing itself, more the discourse about it is important.Throughout this century, the meaning of the object has changed and an evolution is discernable: more the object is abstracting or digitizing itself, more it exists by the discourse and the communication. This gives us to see an irreducible thing, a fundamentally human leftover.Analysed by aesthetic, anthropologic and institutional perspectives, the object, apparently simple, reveals its clear complexity. It is functional, useful, sometimes decorative, and more rarely a piece of art; and something of the subject, who uses, peers, creates its, sets in itself. The object, as a paradigm of the human communication, follows, induces, endorses at any rate progresses and regressions of society. In increasingly significant, interactive and sophisticated exhibitions’ devices, the piece of art is an essential indicator for a best understanding of the present time.

We are moving quickly to a new environment characterized by global dematerialization and celerity. These features are not without effect. The world around us is changing with the advent of technology and the integration of electronic tools in all our activities. The Internet is becoming an indispensable tool to use and integrate in our business, including commercial activities. International trade gives more room to the electronic commerce. The development of the universal phenomenon of the Internet and the emergence of electronic commerce naturally provoke conflicts even to international extend. Faced with the impossibility of using state justice, the use of paperless settlement was necessary, which promotes the logical development of ODR including Electronic Arbitration. Nevertheless, the use of this resolution mode sometimes raises not only technical issues, but many legal ones as well. This is precisely due to the nature of the legal environment. Overcoming these issues through the establishment of an environment fitting the development of Electronic Arbitration is necessary. For sure, if Electronic Arbitration uses technical and legal environment, and though the process may appear complex at first sight, all legal and technical issues dealt with in this thesis are, however, overcome.

▼ The project is a local cultural center located in Gulou area in the old city center of Beijing, China. This urban intervention establishes a series of harmonious relationships between the city and the architecture, between the urban and the autonomous and between the old and the new . The pattern of the city's fabric, the local traditions, and the basic ways of life serve to guide the spatial organization and the development of architectural elements.
The building is dematerialized. Paintings and diagrams are abstracted from the physical reality of the building. Drawings and models are made to further present the spatial orders and conditions. The containment of the architecure has always drawn as much attention from me as on the building itself. This thesis is more about searching for the intangible contained by physical elements.

The proposed theory about cognition in design aims to contribute to the understanding of the operating mode of designers, considering the model of thought behind it that holds characteristics of a particular nature. This knowledge is extrapolated to cases of incomplete problems resolution inherent to reality complexity, consider the model of technical rationality which based the current operating conditions of capitalism. The sustainability of current lifestyles based on consumption is placed on analysis, with design thinking to solve problems where there is a visual literacy along with a verbal literacy. The potential of the visual mode, close to the sensory experience without loss of original meaning, let us point to the possibility of imaterial transactions with symbolic-analytic products. Advocating a dematerialization of consumption it is proposed to develop solutions for sustainability in different contexts of human activity, based on cognitive processes broader and with better achievements.

▼ The aim of the present thesis was the study of the conflict of laws rule which determinates the applicable law in clearing and settlement of cross-border transactions in dematerialized securities. The above issue was examined under the uniform private international law perspective, whereas, at the same time, we underlined the need for adopting uniform rules in substantive law, in order to achieve legal certainty in this issue. The research took place in the light of the uniformity of law, which is forced by the globalisation of economy, the internationalization and privatization of the markets and the development of electronic transactions. The analysis was focused on the indirect holding system of securities, which is a consequence of immobilization and dematerialization of securities. Its main characteristic is the existence of intermediaries between the issuer of the securities and the final investor. In the above described context, we proceeded to the extensive analysis of the suggestions pointed out by legal theory concerning the conflict of laws rule which will determine the applicable law in the clearing and settlement of cross-border transactions in dematerialized securities. At first place, we presented the different views concerning the legal nature of dematerialized securities and we underlined the need for recognition of erga omnes property rights to investors. Consequently, on the basis of the legal nature of dematerialized securities, we studied the conflict of laws rules which were proposed by the legal theory in order to find the applicable law, making a detailed analysis of lex situs and of the rule PRIMA. Next followed the examination of the rules established by the European and international law. Particularly, we commented on the conflict of laws rules which are contained in a series of European directives and we underlined the partial regulation of the issue in European law due to the absence of a unique legal act. A significant part of the thesis was dedicated to the exhaustive study of the ad hoc International Hague Convention on the applicable law to certain rights in respect of securities held with intermediaries. This Convention establishes as applicable law the law of the account agreement between the investor and the intermediary with whom he signs the agreement. The necessary qualification for the implementation of the so determined law is the existence of an establishment of the relevant intermediary in the state the law of which is being chosen. Despite the unfavorable criticism made to the Convention, mainly by the European Central Bank, it was admitted that it adopts a conflict of laws rule suitable for the needs and practice of modern financial markets. In the end, for a complete presentation of the issue, we briefly reviewed the Geneva Convention on substantive rules for intermediated securities. This Convention, however, does not succeed the desirable uniformisation of substantive law, as it allows national laws to differentiate from its rules. The result of the above study is the…

▼ This project explores the juxtaposition of classical and contemporary architectural forms as they coexist within Richmond City’s urban fabric. It is an assessment and understanding of how the built environment can reinforce transitions between old and new in ways that both integrate architectural differences and embrace historical identity.
Richmond, and a large part of Virginia in general, has been shaped by the historical events of its existence. The sights of the city reveal a clash of the old and new. It is a city where newer developments and traditional elements have been trying to co-mingle.
The design incorporates a contemporary architectural language that joins with the building’s historical surroundings without breaking the balance of the composition.

The financial world is going through major changes, both on a structural and regulatory level. The objective of this article is to study the relevance of physical securities in this context.
There are several transformations that currently impact the global post-trade market. The implementation of new mechanisms and regulations such as TARGET-2 Securities and Central Securities Depositaries Regulation, reflects this. Furthermore, there is the growing focus on strategic partnerships and outsourcing. There is also the importance of standardization and the automatism of processes.
The purpose of this work is to highlight the reasons that lead to the issuance of new physical securities and the ones that may be preventing a complete dematerialization.
The Delphi method was used in order to obtain a full vision of this issue. Thanks to the help of professionals in the post-trade area, an answer to the main points affecting securities in paper was found.
There is a consensus that total dematerialization is irreversible. Nevertheless, in order to achieve this goal, it is important that both governments and key institutions make joint efforts.

Dematerialization is a technology-based surgery that involves replacing a tangible physical medium with an electronic process. For example, the dematerialized bill of lading is detached from its historical material medium, namely paper. The passage of the numerical border involves changes and raises interesting questions, which the thesis offer to look from the angle of maritime law. Through…

This research focuses on the determinants of the intention to use the digital HR information of employees. Based on the approval theories and technology's adoption, we chose the TAM as the core of our model. Thus, our study contributes to the understanding or the reject of the the digital HR information in a professional environment and to find out the explanatory facts of this approval and the intention of using it by potential users. To give an answer to this problematic, the model developed and implemented, is inspired by the theories and theoretical models that treated the behavior of acceptance and use of information systems (TAM TAM2, UTAUT, UTAUT2 .. ) and the results of two exploratory studies. The proposed posture in our search highlights the adoption of digital RH information. Our study also conducted us to well understand the main reasons of the adoption of the e-HRM service by employees. As well as our research puts in obviousness the important role that the RH function plays in the use of the digital RH service along and after its muse en place. The results obtained after the evolution of this framework model and the hypothesis test using the PLS approach suggest that there are hints of the way of proceeding to foster of the settling of the dematerialization of the RH project and the digital transformation of the RH function.

▼ Climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions caused by human actions is probably one of the major global environmental problems that we face today. In order to reduce the risk of climate change and the potential effects thereof, the emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4 ) should be reduced.
Much greenhouse gases are emitted due to the combustion of fossil fuels. At present, these fuels fulfil about 60% of our global energy needs. Therefore, a more efficient use of fossil energy is generally viewed as an important option to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. A large part of global fossil energy use (about 40%) is consumed in the industrial sector to manufacture materials and products. Not surprisingly, several studies show that options that lead to more efficient use of materials often lead to reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Yet, in current greenhouse gas emission reduction policies, not much attention is paid to more efficient material management as an option to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In the introductory chapter, several studies are briefly discussed that focus on the material use of economies over time. The general conclusion of these studies is that for materials the consumption per unit GDP has decreased over the last decades, but that the total consumption of these materials is still growing due to economic growth. In this thesis the focus is on improved material management options that lead to greenhouse gas emission reduction. It aims to contribute to the following question: Which greenhouse gas emission reduction can be achieved potentially, by improved management of materials? The scope is limited in the number of product groups that are studied, the number of greenhouse gases studied and the geographical area. The question that is addressed in this thesis is therefore: Which greenhouse gas emission reduction, especially CO2 , can be achieved potentially in Western Europe or The Netherlands, by improved management of materials in the product groups 'packaging', 'residential buildings', and 'publication paper'

The dematerialization of access to genetic testing appears to be a tool to satisfy all the aspects of the right to health protection. Indeed, in this field, the specialization of medicine induces a limitation of the numbers of persons entitled to prescribe genetic tests. The quest for the best quality and health security for the realization of the genetic tests induces problems of equal access to the laboratories of medical biology authorized for this purpose, but to which dematerialization can give answers. Also, dematerialization does not appear to be antinomic of patient autonomy, although it presents weaknesses.

The Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) provides a wide range of opportunities for companies to become more competitive. Not only from the standpoint of business for goods and services as in organizational and management practices. The adoption of information and communication technologies of e-commerce B2B, aiming to increase effectiveness and efficiency in the exchange of business documents, enables improved collaboration among economic agents of a supply chain of goods or services. E-commerce has enabled a profound transformation of traditional commercial practices, where the EDI positively influenced in the way of conducting business. An emerging concept currently is the electronic invoice, essential for the development of the relationship between entities (B2B). The invoice dematerialization entails numerous benefits for those involved, such as: cost reduction, reduced environmental impact and increased productivity and transparency in business processes. This dissertation intends to address in detail the issues related to EDI and electronic invoice, regarding the concept, the messages, the standards used, the benefits and costs involved, and to all his surroundings along a supply chain. Based on these concepts, it is presented a case study of a successful national…

From the problematic confrontation of a video game project with the multiple conditions ofits creation, the present thesis tries to highlight the constraints and the interrogations whichthey arouse. Contemporary to the information society, the video game is a witness of thecomplex evolution of the postmodern paradigm born from cybernetics. From the genesis ofthe video game to present time, technologies, the ways of playing and the productions revealthe significant oppositions in their visions of the world. The thesis shows that behind theimage of entertainment and of a consensual industry, a form of resistance can express/voiceitself from a technological, artistic and political point of view. Through the history of videogame and its future, one can read some of society’s stakes/challenges linked to new formsof power. It is within a counter cultural interstice, and fed by a prior critical exam, thata resistant work/piece is developed. An original creation is progressively built in reflexivecounter cultural opposition to the mainstream dominant liberal world and its accelerationand dematerialization... From a plastic point of view, the thesis questions the return of thevirtual reality technologies, and elaborates two new notions: the experiential vehicle and thesufficient decoy. Taking advantage of this new field of investigation of creation, the thesisinvites the player to let it be used so as to do so. Keywords: Video games. Counter culture.Experiential vehicle. Counter dematerialization. Sufficient decoy.

Contemporary puppetry reinvents the relationship between dramatic and plastic gestures, inviting us to reconsider the principles and the implications of the act of figuration. The performing art works, generated by these experiences, avoid the designation of a fixed, material and unique puppet-object, so that a binary approach, opposing humans and objects, is no longer sufficient to consider the specificity of puppetry arts. Addressing the “presences of the puppet”, the thesis examines the puppet as a figure and a place for frictions between materials, bodies, spaces and wave mediums (lights and sounds). Such a figure, refusing tobe fixed in the visible, in the forms and the bodies, dramatizes its own disfigurement. Thus, the specificity of puppetry is the persistence of a fragile and discontinuous dramatic presence, despite the dislocation of the two bodies of the figure (material and virtual). Built on a central body of performing art works (by Les Ateliers du spectacle, the Clastic Théâtre, Phia Ménard, the…

▼ Global raw material extraction has accelerated since the 1950s, causing resource depletion, ecosystem degra- dation, pollution, and climate change. To reduce such impacts, the economic drivers of material use must be addressed. Although economic growth often drives material use to increase, this increase can be counter- acted by dematerialization. This study explores whether dematerialization can achieve sustainable material footprints in Sweden by 2050, considering different scenarios of economic growth. Environmentally extended multi-regional input-output analysis was used to calculate the Swedish material footprint from 1995 to 2011. Structural decomposition analysis was used to quantify how much dematerialization, economic growth, con- sumption and trade patterns, and population drove the changes in the material footprint. Based on previous literature, 6 tons of materials per person was used as a sustainability target in three backcasting scenarios, reflecting degrowth, growth, and growth with ambitious shifts towards less material intensive consumption and trade patterns, respectively. The Swedish material footprint increased from 211 to 279 Mt from 1995 to 2011. While relative dematerialization did occur, economic growth caused material use to grow. If the economy degrows, the 2050 target can be reached with dematerialization rates of 0.7 times the previous rates. To reach the target under continued economic growth, dematerialization rates must increase by a factor of 1.8-2.7, depending on the extent of shifts to less material intensive consumption and trade patterns. Although further research is needed to examine whether such unprecedented rates of dematerialization are feasible, the results suggest that degrowth must be considered.

Public sector entities face huge challenges, with a view to meet the objectives of a more competent, softer, effective and efficient Public Administration, regarding its services to citizens and firms
The change resulting from public policies in the framework of e-gov, oblige to rethink the way organizations interact with one another, the way they perform their processes, with whom and with what kind of competencies.
Dematerialization became inevitable and the implementation of transversal document, content and process management systems gain relevance as well as all the issues related to the document lifecycle. The complexity of these projects requires a very strict project planning and management, in order to help the organization to fulfill the established objectives.
Assuming that these projects transform the organization, all the matters related to the people become a key aspect to manage. The way people is involved in the change process is decisive to their commitment with the common objective that the project aims to attain. Professional training, as well as the development and emergence of new competencies make the change easier and contribute to individual and collective learning.

Therefore it is suggested to expand the dematerialization to beyond the damage: the dematerialization of the manner to compensate the damage (being it material or not) as an option of the injured person who, in a solidarity way, express his greatest satisfaction thru the enforcement of the injurer to do obligations which contempt social-educative character and will be designated to the society (herein denominated social-educative sanctions) which will be defined with reasonability and proportionality according to the damage. There is any enrichment by the injured person, as well as there is no Fundamental Rights violation of the injurer. The non patrimonial compensation is applicable to any kind of active or passive agents (individual or corporate entity), to personal and absolute liability, to contractual and non-contractual liability, considering there is no proposal of changing the civil liability structure, but expand its function. The objective of non patrimonial compensation thru a social-educative sanction is to satisfy the injured people, to deterrence and to educate the injurer and the society. In this meaning will be possible not just a social control, but, above this, discovering a manner to confer social direction thru education and, therefore, transforming the society to be more fair and liable. Using the deductive method and, sometimes, also topic method, the studies to develop it were founded in Brazilian Law and Foreign Law, in the context of doctrine and jurisprudence. It favored the logic, objectivity, impartiality, to obtain technical, legal, historical and sociocultural analysis and also providing a technical and applied conclusion

In this study we evaluate the impacts of the Electronic Public Procurement, overlying the use of Information and Communication Technologies, particularly the Public Contracts Law and the Electronic Platforms. The adoption of a public procurement system, fully electronic, stems from a group of objectives set by the European Union, in view with procedural dematerialization in Public Administration by the replacement of paper-based procedures for E-Services, contributing to the growth of E-Government in member states.
Following the operation of mandatory Electronic Public Procurement in Portugal we observe induced impacts from the implementation of this system in the construction business. Based on a multicase study, it translates the result of a research conducted in 2012. For this purpose, five companies were selected on an international scale to which were placed two surveys. The first, aimed at those responsible in the area, enabled a qualitative research. The second, submitted to Electronic Public Procurement users, identified internally in the institutions under study, allowed a significant statistical work. Thus, a view of the system against the…

Territorial ecology is a research field which proposes to analyse the functioning of a territory under the perspective of the flows of matter and energy which passes by and characterize it. This analysis is particularly led through the concept of territorial metabolism. Through this lens, flows are considered in their material dimension but also under the light of the actor systems and of the political and socio-economic issues which influence them. Thus, territorial ecology tends to underline socio-ecological transition levers on the scale of territories. This thesis proposes to test these concepts through a field study in the mid Rhône valley. Looking back to the end of the 18th century, the research firstly underlines how a socio-ecological regime is progressively set around the industry sector and the heavy infrastructures at the scale of the territory. Then, the thesis describes how this regime gets materialized into today’s…

▼ The visual and psychological impact of architectural
space can be perceptually altered through the integration of
artificial (electric) lighting within the built environment.
Artificial light has had a tremendous impact on the way in which
architecture has been redefined and expressed. Its ability to
define, manipulate, distort and create architectural space is the
focus of this thesis. This thesis will demonstrate how artificial
light - through its ethereal quality - has visually and
psychologically affected the tangible qualities of architectural
form. Specifically, the objective is to design a Community Action
Resource Center on the south lawn of the National Underground
Railroad Freedom Center, which works in conjunction with the
Freedom Center and its values. By manipulating artificial light,
the hope is to generate a design that becomes a literal and
symbolic beacon as the Action Resource Center for the National
Underground Railroad Freedom Center and the overall Greater
Cincinnati community.

▼ A key issue in climate negotiations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is how future commitments can be differentiated amongst countries. This thesis focuses on a more systematic differentiation of such commitments to support international decision making in this respect. Bottom-up information on reduction opportunities is taken into account, as well as the stabilization objective and most of the basic principles of the UNFCCC.
The thesis starts from the Triptych approach to the differentiation of commitments. This is a sector- and technology-oriented approach that takes into account various national circumstances to calculate emission targets. It played an important role in the differentiation of the European Union's Kyoto target over its Member States. The approach was upscaled to calculate emission targets at the global level and to identify characteristics of the approach that would need further consideration.
One of the outcomes of this exercise was the importance of valueladen choices and uncertainties in the approach. Therefore an assessment was made of the ranges in emission reduction targets that result from valueloading and uncertainty in input data and parameters. A modified version of Cultural Theory and Monte Carlo simulations were used as complementary methods to do so. An important finding was that notwithstanding valueloading and uncertainty the ranking of countries within the calculated differentiation of commitments remains roughly the same. This demonstrates that the Triptych approach is a robust tool for dealing with the issue of differentiation of commitments.
A major factor affecting the resulting emission targets appeared to be growth assumptions for the energy-intensive industry. Therefore development trajectories of the energy-intensive industry in various regions of the world in the 1980s and 1990s were studied. On the basis of recent per capita growth rates in this sector, rough aggregate growth rates of industrial production per capita for the coming decades were projected: these were around 6% for the 'lower low' income countries, 3-4% for the upper low', 1% for the middle-income and 0.5% for the high-income countries.
The presumed rates of energy efficiency improvement turned out to be another factor influencing the outcome of the original Triptych approach. Therefore an assessment was made of international differences in energy efficiency in the energy-intensive industry. Data on energy efficiency were summarized in aggregated values for the Energy Efficiency Index in each world region. For some regions this aggregated EEI may be up to twice the current reference level (best practice), whereas for other regions this factor is not higher than 1.2. The concept of a technological convergence was suggested to estimate the effect of differences in energy efficiency on the differentiation of emission objectives.
Finally an adjusted approach to the differentiation of commitments is presented, named the Global Triptych approach. The approach starts from…

This doctoral thesis aims at answering a key question: what is the level of consideration given to Information Systems Security (ISS) by the French local authorities (LAs)? The latter are now facing new challenges that require an ever-increasing use of new technologies (e-government, e-democracy, dematerialization of call for tenders...). The under-researched territorial IT risk becomes a major issue in the sphere of public services and the protection of personal data. Theoretically based and constructed through successive professional positions, our theoretical model helps measure the actual level of inclusion of digital risk taking into account the respective influence of a set of characteristics of local authorities. A field survey was conducted with the close collaboration of representatives of LAs.While numerical risk requires a high level awareness by LA decision makers, it appears that they have a very imperfect knowledge of IT security related risks as well as of direct or indirect threats that may jeopardize their management systems. A potential solution lies with the definition of a specific public policy and with the implementation of appropriate procedures at the level of each community.

▼ This thesis is an investigation which overturns the misconceptions of Conceptual art and its legacies in order to illuminate the movement’s contributions to subsequent art-making and aesthetics. While initially conceived to promote the “
dematerialization of art,” Conceptual art instead expanded the rigid definition of art from Greenberg’s modernist aesthetics and explored new avenues of art-making. This thesis reconsiders the medium of language within the work of Conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner and the Post-Conceptual artists Judy Natal and Jung Lee as it overcomes the characteristics of
dematerialization. Instead, within the theoretical model of Speculative Realism, art-objects and language can be further understood as ontological and autonomous entities that withdraw from human-access and which only relate to other objects vicariously. Art is thus able to overcome the assumption of a passive, human-dependent object and instead challenges our perception of objects and the interpretations and analyses we derive from their surface qualities.

▼ Through the analysis of the early works of
contemporary, Los Angeles-based Conceptual artist Allen Ruppersberg
(born 1944), this thesis will examine and contextualize the
artist’s engagement with the ideas of location, the conditions of
the city that affected his process and the artist’s interest in the
rejection of the preciousness of the art object. The artwork
produced between 1968 and 1972 provides a discrete body of work
focused within and utilizing images indicative of the site of Los
Angeles, reflective of the region’s psychogeography and the reality
of the individual’s requisite mobility in a city framed by
freeways. Ruppersberg employed numerous strategies—particularly
that of shifting reality only minutely to translate it into art—to
investigate this confluence of ideas. The influence of Los Angeles
on Ruppersberg’s early work is a crucial and under-examined point
in L.A. art history and will be the
subject of this
manuscript.
