▼ Background: A university is characterized as organized anarchy. According to Cohen, et al. (1972) decision-making occurs in form of A Garbage Can Model (GCM) in such organizations. This model is influenced by some factors such as organizational structure. The influences of some types of organizational structure have been studied based on a computer simulation by Cohen and his colleagues in 1972. However, the study was based on numerical statistics and excluded the influence of genuine characteristics of an organizational structure. Aim: This thesis aims to understand the influence of the dynamic and real characteristics of an organizational structure on a university’s decision-making process. Therefore, this research is conducted to explore how matrix structure influences on decision-making process in Linköping University by reducing uncertainty characteristics of decision-making process. Definitions: A Garbage Can Model: provides a theory framework in order to understand how decisions are made in organizations under condition of organized anarchy. This Model has four heterogeneous streams include decision, solution, decision maker, and choice opportunity. All these streams are moving around within the organization and need to match up in the choice opportunities to make decisions. Matrix Structure: is a structure with focus on multiple dimensions through multiple lines of authority and lateral communication. Results: The Matrix structure reduces the uncertainty of decision-making in Linköping University by managing the information process through the lateral communication. More specifically, the lateral communication occurs based on different approaches such as informal meetings, network of people, management group, and external information. However, the authority aspect in Linköping University has certain tendency towards the single unity of command (centralization), which is in contrast with matrix structure characteristics.

▼ Everyday, millions of people interact with online services that adopt recommender systems, such as personalized movie, news and product recommendation services. Research has shown that the demographic attributes of users such as age and gender can further improve the performance of recommender systems and can be very useful for many other applications such as marketing and social studies. However, users do not always provide those details in their online profiles due to privacy concern. On the other hand, user interactions such as ratings in recommender systems may provide an alternative way to infer demographic information. Most existing approaches can infer user demographics based on sufficient interaction history but could fail for users with few ratings. In this thesis, we study the association between users demographic information and their ratings, and explore the tradeoff between user privacy and the utility of personalization. In particular, we present a novel multi-task preference elicitation method, with which a recommender system asks a new user to rate selected items adaptively and infers the demographics rapidly via a few interactions. Experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate the performance of the proposed method in terms of the accuracy of both demographics inference and rating prediction.

▼ Today, shipping industry is a complex system involving multiple actors, multiple interests and intricate interactions occurring at different levels. With any disruption to interaction occurring there would be multiple impacts and accumulation of costs on individual actors operating in the system.Unless these risks are well understood and prioritized based on the situational demands, the businesses will find it difficult operate in such complex actor-intensive system. In energy industry, Risk Based optimization (RBO) approach has been in use to manage the large infrastructures and multiple assets. RBO approach has been effective in identifying and prioritising the risks affecting the performance of the assets.Research was thus taken up to investigate this idea and thereby to develop a risk based decision making (RBDM) approach for international shipping domain. Further, to improve visibility in supply chain, development of a large scale Digital Trade Infrastructure (DTI) called Data Pipeline is in progress under the project called CORE. This research also tried to evaluate the extent to which both the concepts could reinforce each other and improve the supply chain quality. In the process, a prototype of RBDM Tool was developed and used to analyze the trade lane of JamboFresh, a fruit importing company in the Netherlands. By coping with the challenges posed by RBO approach of energy industry, by narrowing down the limitations offered by current risk management practices, and by incorporating the relevant multi-actor theories a RBDM Appraoch was developed. Based on the findings and discussions several reccomendations were laid down.

▼ The capacitor test process at ABB Capacitors in Ludvika must be improved to meet future demands for high voltage products. To find a solution to how to improve the test process, an investigation was performed to establish which parts of the process are used and how they operate. Several parts which can improves the process were identified. One of them was selected to be improved in correlation with the subject, mechanical engineering. Four concepts were generated and decision matrixes were used to systematically select the best concept. By improving the process several benefits has been added to the process. More units are able to be tested and lead time is reduced. As the lead time is reduced the cost for each unit is reduced, workers will work less hours for the same amount of tested units, future work to further improve the process is also identified. The selected concept was concept 1, the sway stop concept. This concept is used to reduce the sway of the capacitors as they have entered the test facility, the box. By improving this part of the test process a time saving of 20 seconds per unit can be achieved, equivalent to 7% time reduction. This can be compared to an additional 1400 units each year.

internos do serviço.

▼ The Higgs boson discovery was announced on July 4th, 2012. It was measured to have a mass of 125.7 ± 0.3 (stat) ± 0.3 (syst) GeV and since then boson has been seen in many decay paths, including the H→γγ, H→ZZ→4l, H→τ τ, and H→W⁺W⁻→lνlν channels. However, no one has looked for the boson at this mass using the H→W⁺W⁻→lνjj decay channel. This dissertation presents a search for the ∼125 GeV Higgs in semi-leptonic W decays using both traditional kinematically discriminating variables as well as a
matrix element technique. The data for this analysis was collected in 2012 by the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and amounts to 19.7 fb⁻¹ of proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 8 TeV. Although this analysis presents a step forward in complexity, we were still not able to see a significant excess above the standard model background prediction. However, we were able to set an upper limit of 5.4 on σ/σSM at the 95% confidence level for the semi-leptonic W decay of the Higgs boson. These represent some of the first such limits recorded.

▼ This thesis resolves the artificial intelligence representation in computer games. The goal was to find it's suitable interpretation methods. The issue was solved with "map"implementation, which is the n-dimension
matrix holding the information about current game state for the concrete player. There were various types of these matrixes used in this thesis. Furthermore was designed a way to evolve computer opponents during the gameplay and created an algorithm, that gives the idea of the space in which it is located. Benefit from this thesis is a solution that makes artificial adversary close to human gameplay behavior. The outcome could also be used in simulators for military battles in real world.

▼ The purpose of this study was to investigate and implement fuzzy decision algorithms based on unequal objectives and minimization of regret to retrieve an optimal decision in business intelligence. Another aim was to compare these two models; those have been applied in business intelligence area. The use of unequal objectives and minimization of regret methods based on the essential concept of the fuzzy decision were applied on the business intelligence model. The first method uses Saaty’s approach of comparison objectives to determine the weight of the objectives, while the second method uses the regression of objectives which acts as a filter for high values by divesting them of their decisive power. In a complex business problem, we have used knowledge of experts in verbal expressions, converted these verbal expressions into linguistic variables and then used fuzzy decision making models to retrieve best decision. The implementation’s results of the two methods were the same regarding to the final decision set. The first model results indicated the effect of the influential factors on the products, while the second model results showed the payoff for the influential factors and its effectives on the products.

▼ Objectives Clinical gait analysis, as commonly prescribed for children with Cerebral Palsy, is a complex set of procedures which include examining data from several sources. The tools developed with this project will use that data to provide robust, repeatable, evidence-based guidance to highlight the most effective treatments for children with CP. These tools will also supply objective measures that can be included in outcome analysis. Methods Several mathematical techniques are used to find patterns within the gait date including: singular value decomposition of kinematic and kinetic data to measure gait pathology; k-means cluster analysis of those results to find recurring patterns; principal components analysis of physical exam findings to relate the gait patterns to physical function; and non-negative matrix factorization of electromyography data to measure motor control. Results The decomposition and scaling of the kinematic and kinetic data resulted in a set of indexes that are able to quantify gait pathology. The k-means cluster analysis reveals that there are repeatable patterns within the gait pathology. These patterns are related to clinical findings as calculated from principal components analysis. Clinical interpretations of motor control can be quantified as muscle synergies using non-negative matrix factorization. Interpretation These tools have proven to provide important quantitative information on treatment outcomes. When implemented in routine clinical gait analysis, these tools have the ability to provide evidence based guidance in treatment decisions.

▼ Eurooppalaisten kuntien johdossa toimivien poliitikkojen ja virkamiesten haasteena on järjestää tehokkaat ja vaikuttavat julkiset palvelut osana demokraattista järjestelmää. Edellä kuvatun tavoitteen saavuttamiseksi uusi julkisjohtaminen (New Public Management, NPM) esittää keinoiksi yleisjohtajuudellisten työkalujen hyödyntämistä, kuntien viranhaltijajohdon valtaistamista työkalujen käyttöön sekä muiden palvelujen tuottamista yhteistyössä muiden yksityisten ja julkisten toimijoiden kanssa. Lisäksi uuden julkisjohtamisen periaatteiden soveltaminen edellyttää, että kunnalliset johtohenkilöt etsivät uusia yhteistyöavauksia muiden sidosryhmien suunnasta, joista yleensä puhutaan hallinnan -käsitteen yhteydessä (Governance). Päällekkäisten reformisuuntien implementointi johtaa kuitenkin uudentyyppiseen vallanjakoon poliitikkojen ja virkamiesten välillä, mikä vaikuttaa johdon valtaan tehdä päätöksiä.
Tässä väitöskirjassa tutkitaan miten kunnan keskeiset poliittiset johtajat ja ammattijohtajat kolmesta eri eurooppalaisesta maasta hahmottavat päätöksentekovaltansa (DMP, Decision-Making Power) ja miten he näkevät NPM ja Governance -uudistusten vaikukuttaneen siihen. Tietoisuus siitä, miten kunnalliset johtajat käsittävät muutokset vallassaan on arvokasta julkishallinnon toimijoille ja tutkijoille, jotka haluavat arvioida meneillään olevien hallinnonuudistusten vaikutusta kuntien kykyyn suoriutua tehtävistään.
Vastatakseni tutkimuksen tavoitteisiin määrittelin aluksi päätöksentekovallan (DMP) toimijan mahdollisuuksiksi tehdä päätöksiä joilla vaikutetaan muihin toimijoihin kollektiivisessa päätöksentekoprosessissa. Määrittelyn myötä minulla oli mahdollisuus luoda ns. päätöksentekovaltamatriisi, minkä kautta määrittelen neljä päätöksentekovallan tyyppiä: Absoluuttinen päätöksentekovalta, mahdollistava päätöksentekovalta, asiantuntijuuteen perustuva päätöksentekovalta sekä seremoniallinen päätöksentekovalta. Matriisi onkin eräänlainen yhdistelmä virallisen ja epävirallisen vallankäytön keinoja, joita kuntien johtajat käyttävät. Määritelläkseni minkä tyyppistä päätöksentekovaltaa johtajat käyttävät, suoritin ensin historiallisen maakohtaisen analyysin määritelläkseni johtajien virallisen valta-aseman. Seuraavaksi suoritin kvalitatiivisen, kulttuurienvälisen vertailevan analyysin tutkituista maista kerätäkseni johtajien käsitykset heidän omasta, (muuttuvasta) päätöksentekovallastaan ja määrittääkseni johtajien epävirallisen vallan määrän.
Realistinen lähestymistapa haastatteluaineistoon ja triangulaatiometodin käyttö johti minut seuraaviin johtopäätöksiin. Suurin osa slovakialaisista ja jotkut espanjalaiset kunnan poliittisessa johdossa toimivat hahmottivat päätöksentekovallan liittyvän heidän asemaansa. Suurin osa suomalaisista ja jotkut espanjalaiset kunnan poliittiset johtajat näkivät päätöksentekovallan liittyvän henkilökohtaiseen kyvykkyyteen. Tutkimukseen osallistuneet kunnan ammattijohtajat jäsensivät päätöksentekovaltaa molemmista näkökulmista ilman selkeitä maakohtaisia eroja.
NPM-kehityssuunta näyttää vaikuttaneen…

The research entitled "Application of multicriteria method in management decision making: a study on the maintenance of logistics equipment" is a study that proposes a matrix for decision making, considering all the criteria of importance, choosing among the alternatives, the most favorable to the current need. Its general objective is to propose a multicriteria analysis model, as an alternative to support in the management decision making, achieved by the following specific objectives: Define the qualitative and quantitative variables of the process; Express the importance of system variables; Propose the best alternative that meets the needs of the system; Demonstrate the tolerance / flexibility margins of the system and Validate the multicriteria analysis model. The theoretical support of the research was based on
bibliographical research, documentary analysis and Focus group instrument, starting from the understanding and characterization of the problem, until reaching the modeling of the weighted matrix providing a numerical index of the criterion evaluation, validated through the action research, in a company of the Polo of Two Wheels, with the purpose of assisting in the process of revaluation of the system of maintenance of logistic equipment, whose purpose is to eliminate line stops due to the unavailability of logistic handling equipment. Regarding the results, it was identified that the expectation of the system could be met with 86% satisfaction of the criteria, as opposed to the one reached by the current operator with 44% attendance. In the first stage of the criterial evaluation, the most compromised proposal with the expected results was alternative C, with capacity to meet 66% of expectations. However, this service capacity is below the target of 86%. In the second stage, with
the implementation of several actions to develop the supplier, the best alternative was presented by supplier A (the current operator)…

▼ As workplace risk assessment is pivotal to ensure the safety and health of workers, adopting a reliable technique in performing this assessment cannot be overemphasized. The qualitative risk analysis is considered the most common technique of performing risk assessment, yet has received strong criticism as being influenced by subjectivity and lack of systematic process. The utility of risk matrices in scoring and obtaining risk rating has further complicated this technique and made it quite challenging for management to establish confidence in
decision-making based on qualitative analysis. This study identified those subjective factors impairing the credibility of qualitative techniques and actually measured their impacts. By means of a simulated worksite scenario with identified hazards, Certified Safety Professionals, Engineers and Students were made to analyze, rate and make an overall
decision on the scenario with a view to understanding the influence of those subjective predictors in the
decision outcome. The goal was to determine what factors influence the
decision making process and if Certified Safety professionals would be most influenced by these factors to produce a distinct outcome from the other groups. A comprehensive
decision model was also used as a holistic approach to model the
decision outcome of these predictors. The predictor factors were statistically significant though, but the results presented further systematic characteristics in the risk analysis and ratings among the three groups.

▼ Since businesses are constantly changing, making right decisions is a critical factor in order to achieve good results. In the thesis, two different decision support models are tested and the outcome is compared. This is done in cooperation with a company, Åmotfors Energi, who is facing a decision on how they can make use of their 30 GWh heat which they today do not have a paying customer for. Nine alternatives are used in the models and evaluated with seventeen different criteria. The purpose of this study is to compare and interpret the outcomes of two decision support models: the Analytical Hierarchy Process and Pugh Matrix Analysis. The purpose is also to investigate the main factors that influence the outcome of the models. The main research strategy was to use experimental design where three experts with various technical skills have scored the alternatives in both models. The alternatives have been carefully developed through an idea generation and idea selection phase. The results show that the models give different result when it comes to ranking the alternatives, both between the models and between the different experts. The empirical findings establish that the outcome from the models should be interpreted that the lowest scored alternatives can be eliminated for further research. The alternatives with the highest score should be further investigated before a decision could be made. Furthermore, what mainly affects the result is based on human factors.

The aim of the study has been to investigate if it is possible to apply a decision model when solving a problem with bidding strategies in public procurement. When a company has costumers comprehended by the laws in public procurement, there are certain rules involved. For a company it is important to be aware about these rules, when setting their bids. Though this is often not enough for a winning procurement, because of the fact that the products comparison prices need to be lower than the competitors'. A decision model, based on data from earlier procurements, has been developed to reinforce a tool with bidding strategies. The decision model is composed by various theories, like decision matrix, decision tree, lognormal distribution and expected monetary value. The procedure through the study has contained data and information acquisition via interviews and other references like literature, articles, thesis and procurements. Based on a general decision matrix and a decision tree, as with calculations, the decision model has been generated. The decision model is mainly designed to reinforce a tool for companies supplying electric wheelchairs to costumers but could also be applicable in other types of procurements. The decision model could be a support when constructing a tool, which consequently…

▼ Buying agricultural machinery is invariably a costly investment for the rural enterprise, so decision making is not always an easy task and is to gather a lot of information in search of a decision that suits the proposed situation. Different steps are involved in the decision making process and this becomes complex due to the associated risks and uncertainties. The purchase of machinery and equipment is a problem that occurs in companies in general and, specifically in this study, in rural companies. In this case the investment in machinery and equipment is usually very high and it is common for rural entrepreneurs to make the decision to purchase machines based on their daily observations and not on attributes relevant to the purchase. This study conducted a study in 52 rural companies and five agricultural machinery dealers with the objective of proposing a decision matrix with more influential attributes for the decision to purchase
agricultural machinery. At first, the attributes considered most important by rural entrepreneurs and concessionaires were compared, with the results showing that the views are different. Following were applied four Decision Uncertainty Criteria, which are: Wald Criterion, MaxiMax Criterion, Savage Criterion and Laplace Criterion. The individual application of each criterion does not have sufficient consistency for decision making. Thus, this researcher created a hybridization of the four criteria giving robustness to the Decision Matrix and the most relevant attributes were evidenced, resulting from the survey with 52 rural companies. Thus, the application of the model of this thesis revealed nine attributes, being "quality of the good", "durability of the good" and "useful life of the good" the three best ranked. At the time of purchase many appeals can influence the choice of the business owner. Therefore, the importance of decision quality is emphasized, since the decision-maker
needs concrete support in his decision-making process, finding the appropriate set of attributes that will give him rationality in the business.

▼ Key performance indicators have been around for a long time; organizations
tend to provide their employees with metrics on strategic levels, such as marketshare
or profitability. Next to the key performance indicators that serve the
strategic vision of an organization, tactical and operational levels are also
influenced by metrics. By using metrics and performance indicators,
organizations aim to influence the awareness of employees on targets on a
personal and organizational level. Performance increases are bound to occur,
when employees are made conscious of their personal results by using metrics.
However, an abundance of current definitions of metrics and performance
indicators overwhelm employees with values which are hard to grasp. By
defining key performance indicators, relating to goals and strategic aspects of the
organizations; meaningful indicators can be defined on an operational and
tactical level, therefore, prevent cognitive and operational overload.
This research focuses on the key aspects of defining key performance indicators
by studying literature containing metrics, the metrics studied are often used in
the field in which an organization operates. These metrics are compared to the
ones, which are currently employed within the organization’s structure. As a
result of comparing data and active metrics, a selection of key metrics is
provided to the organization. The availability of these key metrics, enable
organizations to focus on the business, instead of defining metrics.
The key performance metrics are extracted from literature and available data is
used in the Rule Extraction
Matrix (REM) Method. This method is constructed
using several aspects of current data mining methods. One of the applicable data
mining methods is the CRISPDM model, which provides a solid base to
determine the nominal value of a performance metric. The method provides
ways to bond the performance metrics, using business rules, and thus leaving
room for an interpretation of these rules using a
decision support system.
The REM method enables organizations to manage their performance by using
bounded metrics and extract business rules, business rules are responsible for
providing thresholds to the extracted key performance indicators. Validation of
the REM method is performed by an extensive case study at a large Dutch
Telephone and Internet services provider and expert interviews were performed.
The REM method is an addition to the performance measurement field and
further enhances an organization’s ability to define their performance. Moreover,
the REM method is applicable to a variety of organizations given the following
requisite: historical performance measurements must be available.

▼ Due to global developments customer churn is getting a growing concern to the insurance industry. Technological improvements like the internet makes it much easier for customer to compare their policies, obtain new offers or even churn from one provider to another. The insurance industry therefore has become a heavily competitive market in which insurance companies have to compete to protect and expand their customer base in order to maintain or expand their market position. Thus, retaining customers is becoming more and more important and therefore finding customers who are most likely to leave is a central aspect. Many different techniques are available to identify customers who are most likely to leave, however which technique can be used best is often not clear. Research clarifies that the characteristics of the industry and/or dataset which is used are mostly assessing related to performance. In advance it is impossible to determine the best suited technique to use if previous research in which performance was tested has not been published. This study presents a data mining methodology in which the four most used prediction techniques in literature are tested and evaluated using a real life voluminous insurance company dataset to determine which technique performs best. Using the same dataset makes results comparable and clears out which technique performs best based on the insurance data domain characteristics.

In the context of economic globalization, the stand point of purchase and/or sale on the financial market obeys logics which escape sometimes rationality (speculative bubbles…).The forecasters and the financial analysts mobilize one statistical toolbox in order to know the future trends based on the study of the last trends. This toolbox builds on the assumption of normality of the statistical laws underlying which authorizes logics of statistical inference, test, correlation… We could observe in the past which the results of these projections were often failed:the financial crisis which we…

▼ Construction works in almost every country are procured via a number of tendering systems examples being open competitive, selective, negotiated tendering to mention but a few. The choice of the most appropriate system for a particular project is dependent on factors such as type of client, level of risk, time availability, etc. The basis for the selection of such systems has been branded by many as by experience which is tied to an individual and not available to others via documentation. The development of a scientific tool which facilitates the selection of procurement routes for projects is therefore seen by this work as a means to enhance the quality of management decisions on projects. This work developed such a tool by:
• Reviewing literature on procurement systems and tracing the path of development of such systems;
• Reviewing the current practice of construction procurement in Ghana;
• Identifying the key factors affecting the choice of procurement systems in
Ghana:
• Developing a performance weightage system of the key procurement factors as mentioned above:
• Proposing and developing a novel approach towards construction procurement decision-making in Ghana;
• Demonstrating the feasibility of this approach by applying the model to a made-up case.
The model comprises three main sections: Input, processing and output sections. The user reads certain priority questions and enters the relative importance of each variable into the system via a scale of 1-20. The processing section computes what is termed rationalized priority ratings. These ratings are again used for the computation of another quantity by a simple multiplication with certain simple multiplications are added up for each procurement system and ranked with the system presenting the highest result being the most appropriate for a particular project.
This research shows among other things that procurement decision-making can be modeled for management use. It also shows that although many factors can be identified as having inputs in such decisions, a few can be identified as very important, rated, ranked and manipulated into a practical system.
Finally the study concluded that the choice of procurement system is very crucial in determining the success or otherwise in project delivery, as such the model developed will guide all stakeholders in the choice of the right procurement method in any given circumstances.

▼ In this paper, we review existing classification techniques and suggest an entirely new procedure for the classification of high-dimensional vectors on the basis of a few training samples. The proposed method is based on the Bayesian paradigm and provides posterior probabilities that a new vector belongs to each of the classes, therefore it adapts naturally to any number of classes. Our classification technique is based on a small vector which is related to the projection of the observation onto the space spanned by the training samples. This is achieved by employing
matrix-variate distributions in classification, which is an entirely new idea. In addition, our method mimics time-tested classification techniques based on the assumption of normally distributed samples. By assuming that the samples have a
matrix-variate normal distribution, we are able to replace classification on the basis of a large covariance
matrix with classification on the basis of a smaller
matrix that describes the relationship of sample vectors to each other.

The constant improvement of business services depends on its ability to analyze perceived quality’s most influential aspects for customer as well as for other business process’ parties. It is no different in higher education institutions, since its importance to society – high quality education can improve a country’s labor relations, technological capacity, production, and
employment levels. This study intends to propose a service’s quality management analysis tool for academic internal stakeholders, in a higher education basis, of a Federal Education Institute. The chosen academic internal stakeholders were: Undergraduate students, Administrative staff, Teachers and Management Group. This paper analyzed the main quality assessment models - including Cameron’s (1978), SINAES, and Parasuraman Zeithaml, Berry’s (1985) - where the research’s variables and quality indicators were extracted from. Then, basing on Zeithaml, Parasuraman and Berry’s (1990) Quality’s Gap and Slack’s (1994) Opportunity Matrix models, the stakeholder’s attributes of importance and performance were compared. Thus, the results from the research presented Adequate, Improvement, and Immediate Action attributes in the Opportunity Matrix. Lastly, the research focused on the Immediate Action attributes – Accessibility for people with disabilities; Access to computer equipment, internet
and Wi Fi; Life quality; Staff training; Cooperative environment; Students’ Moral; Problem solving ability; Availability of an efficient virtual system; Intermediation with the labor market; Fluidity of interdepartmental communication; Punctuality of Students; Use of talent and expertise; communication flow with the Management Group; Management plan compliance; Flexibility in assembling the curriculum – to propose an action plan based on BSC methodology that shows intervention initiatives for the Institute researched.

▼ Simulation of quantum information processing remains a major challenge with important applications in quantum computer science and engineering. Generic quantum-circuit simulation appears intractable for conventional computers and may be unnecessary because useful quantum circuits exhibit significant structure that can be exploited during simulation. For example, Gottesman and Knill identified an important subclass, called stabilizer circuits, which can be simulated efficiently using the Heisenberg representation for quantum computers. Stabilizer circuits are exclusively composed of stabilizer gates – Hadamard, Phase and CNOT – followed by
one-qubit measurements in the computational basis. Such circuits are applied to a computational-basis state and produce so-called stabilizer states. Aaronson and Gottesman generalized stabilizer-circuit simulation to additionally handle a small
number of non-stabilizer gates. We design new, more efficient data structures and algorithms for such beyond-stabilizer simulation using superpositions of stabilizer states. One such data structure, a stabilizer frame, offers more compact storage than previous approaches but require additional algorithms to maintain the global phases of each state in the superposition. To explore the advantages and limitations of our
technique, we analyze the geometric structure of stabilizer states and their embedding in Hilbert space. Our analysis includes results on the computational geometry of stabilizer states such as efficient algorithms for computing distances, angles and volumes between them. The main advantages of using stabilizer-state superpositions to simulate quantum circuits are: (i) stabilizer subcircuits are simulated with high efficiency, (ii) superpositions can be restructured and compressed on the fly during simulation to reduce resource requirements, and (iii) operations performed on such superpositions lend themselves to distributed or asynchronous processing. Our software implementation, called Quipu, simulates certain quantum arithmetic circuits (e.g., reversible ripple-carry adders) and quantum Fourier transform circuits in polynomial time and space for specific input states. On such instances, known linear-algebraic simulation techniques, such as the (state-of-the-art) BDD-based simulator QuIDDPro, take exponential time. We simulate quantum fault-tolerant circuits using Quipu, and the results
indicate that our stabilizer-based technique empirically outperforms QuIDDPro in all
cases. While previous structure-aware simulations of quantum circuits were difficult to parallellize, we demonstrate a parallel version of Quipu that achieves a nontrivial speedup.

My thesis should reveal the process of choosing locations in Hungary by a Flextronics International Ltd. Not every location factor can be discussed in detail but the most actual, relevant research findings will be presented. An emphasis is given on those locations factors which are also frequently considered in the practice. I also want to reveal why certain location factors are important, and I want to show the development of certain location factors and the influence of the economic and political environment on these location factors. I have always viewed the whole thesis topic from the point of view of a company that considers establishing a plant in Hungary. I tried to show advantages and disadvantages of the location, always considering what different motivation and aims such a company should have. The case study of the Flextronics International Inc. choosing a location in Eastern Hungary follows this idea. The structure of my thesis is as follows:In the first chapter I focus on the location theory and factors. I deal with the historical development of established theories and study main factors as well components used in location theory. I highlight here also the common sense between theory and the Flextronics case…

▼ Aims and Objectives of Research. 1. To develop a 'one stop' generic decision making matrix (Outsourcing Decision Model) that provides the necessary clarity into defining whether an organisation should proceed with an outsourcing initiative or not. This would be based upon a distillation of existing models and reviewed literature. With the recognition that there may be subsequent advantages following the process, the model will include not only these but a means of evaluation in order to ascertain whether or not an outsourcing initiative may be or was successful or not. This latter aspect must logically be viewed as very important as an outsourcer must be aware of the benefits and also whether or not they were achieved. In addition, the model would include sufficient guidance with potential supporting metrics and their application. 2. To validate the Outsourcing Model through specific case studies using a triangulated approach in comparing the selected automotive OEM with some of its major competitors. Within the context of the case study, the research would also attempt to understand how the subject outsourcing organisation compares to its major competitors in equivalent comparable products and whether or not this reflects in the success of these companies. This case study not only provides a means of reinforcing the remaining case studies by using a triangulated method of application to the research developed outsourcing decision model but also provides a deeper understanding of the context of the supplier and competitors within the industry. 3. To test, via case studies the effect of specificity relating to the outsourced end product rather than the outsourced entity. This aspect provides the deepest application to the researched outsourcing decision model and therefore the most comprehensive validation. In addition, because the case studies are retrospective, they have the benefit of providing data to establish the level of success. This would be very important, particularly as it would enable a focus on particular criteria that failed to highlight a particular outcome and therefore provide a chance to make amendments. Low specificity is a well established criterion in defining an outsourced entity which is reflected within the body of the research. The further extension of this theory towards the outsourcing of and outsourced entity related to an established previously outsourced commodity is a new concept with no identifiable literature or evidence relating to its importance. The fact that it provides an element within the research that is potentially unique and carries no extra task burden it has been captured as an added element within the two important validation case studies: 4. To evaluate if outsourcing performance can be enhanced through the introduction of a second supplier into a single supplier sourcing situation. Subsequent to outsourcing, this aim and objective focuses upon the possibility of enhancing performance through the introduction of a second supplier. Particularly in cases whereby expertise…
