足底刺激の違いが足関節の位置を識別する際の脳活動に及ぼす影響についてfMRIを用いて検討することを目的とした。対象は健常成人12名, 右足部を被検足とした。課題は他動運動時に足関節20°底屈位を通過した回数を被験者自身に数えることとした。その際に足底面への刺激を「突起あり」と「突起なし」の2条件とし, この違いが脳内活動に与える影響を検討した。この結果,「突起なし」条件が「突起あり」条件に比較して反対側である左半球の補足運動野が6ボクセル, 同側である右半球の縁上回が8ボクセル, 一次体性感覚野が23ボクセルと有意に賦活していた。右半球は身体内部への注意, 縁上回は身体イメージに関与するとされている。したがって,「突起なし」条件における識別課題では,「突起あり」条件に比較して感覚情報が少ないために同側の縁上回,一次体性感覚野が賦活し,この領域のネットワークが活性化したことが示唆された
