Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo discutir algumas maneiras de compreendermos a educação em Física como uma aprendizagem cultural, no ponto de vista das pesquisas em educação e no ponto de vista dos estudantes, com base em uma investigação da compreensão dos alunos sobre o que é um conhecimento cultural e como este conhecimento pode ser relacionado à Física e à aula de Física. Na área de pesquisa em Educação Científica, trabalhos voltados à relação Ciência, Educação Científica e Cultura ainda são minoritários, entretanto existe um reconhecimento crescente da importância deste tipo de discussão, onde o termo cultura tem ganhado diversos significados. Podemos identificar algumas linhas possíveis de trabalho com questões culturais, como a questão da identidade (Gurgel, 2014), ponte cultura e arte (Zanetic, 2006; Piassi, 2007) e a questão dos diálogos e práticas culturais em sala de aula (Tobin, 2011), sendo que estes possuem distintos embasamentos teóricos e procedimentos práticos em sala de aula. Para o debate entre como os alunos compreendem o conhecimento cultural e a relação das diferentes maneiras de trabalhar com perspectivas culturais no ensino, apresentamos uma discussão sobre uma proposta de entendimento para o conceito de cultura, realizada a partir de uma análise de discussões dos autores Willian Sewell (1999) e Terry Eagleton (2005). Como base metodológica para investigação do entendimento dos estudantes sobre cultura, apresentamos uma discussão sobre identidade cultural, representações sociais e a metodologia de investigação escolar COGEN (diálogo gerado pelo coletivo). A investigação e análise, realizada em uma escola de educação básica da rede pública de ensino, se deu em dois momentos, a utilização de questionários e entrevista em grupo no formato COGEN grupos focais, onde identificamos particularidades na existência de representações distintas para cultura, acessadas independentemente para cada assunto de debate (sala de aula/escola; Física/Ciência), que permitiram uma discussão sobre a importância de levar em consideração a maneira como os estudantes entendem o conceito de cultura e posturas na sala de aula para a eficácia de um ensino de ciências em uma perspectiva cultural.

This research aims to discuss the some of the ways of comprehending education in physics as cultural, from the point of view of educational research and from the point of view of students, based on an investigation of studentsúnderstanding of cultural knowledge and how this knowledge can be related to physics and the physics classroom. In research in science education, investigations focused on Science, Science Education and Culture are still a minority, however there is a growing recognition of the importance of this kind of discussion, where the term culture has got several meanings. We can identify some possible branches of work with cultural subjects such as identity (Gurgel, 2014), bridge between art and culture (Zanetic, 2006; Piassi, 2007) and the matter of dialogue and cultural practices in the classroom (Tobin, 2011),…

The research reported in this thesis deals with the problem of stability and stabilization analysis of certain types of neural networks with time delays. Several sufficient conditions are derived for the stability and stabilization of such systems. More precisely, we study the robust stability and H and#858; control for a class of neural networks and switched neutral-type neural networks with time varying delays and various activation functions. Moreover, the stability and stabilization problems have been analyzed for a class of discrete time stochastic neural networks and stochastic genetic regulatory networks with time varying delays. Next the stability and stabilization results have been investigated for a class of fuzzy neural networks and fuzzy Hopfield neural networks with both discrete and distributed time varying delays. Further we deal with the problem of exponential stability of fuzzy Cogen-Grossberg neural networks with time varying as well constant time delays. Also robust passivity results for stochastic fuzzy bi-directional associative memory neural networks with time varying delays has been discussed. Finally the exponential stability analysis for discrete-time fuzzy stochastic neural networks and discrete-time switched fuzzy neural networks are presented. All the above mentioned results are derived by applying the Lyapunov stability theory, linear matrix inequality technique (LMI) and various analysis techniques like stochastic analysis theory, delay fractioning technique and free weighting matrix approach. The results are established in terms of LMIs which is easily solved by MATLAB-LMI control toolbox. Numerical examples with simulation results are provided in each chapter to illustrate the applicability and efficiency of the obtained results. newline

Two identified strategies to reduce GHG emissions that threaten the global climate stability include 1)the utilization of renewable sources of energy such as solar electricity from photovoltaic (PV) devices and 2)more efficient use of fossil fuels. While electricity production through PV is considerably less harmful than conventional sources of electricity, its intermittency and frequent mismatch between peak production and peak loads has proven to be a major obstacle to wide-scale implementation. As such, coupling PV with more reliable base load electricity production technologies such as combined heat and power (CHP) has been proposed to have a significant positive impact on increasing utilization and penetration levels. To test this theory, first the simulation and optimization platform was developed to utilize these strategies for a hybrid PV and combined cooling, heating, and power (CCHP) systems aimed at both reducing life cycle costs (LCC) and emissions using multi-objective genetic algorithms. The developed platform was focused on Canada‘s residential end-use energy sector and was created as a stepping stone for larger decentralized communal residential, commercial/institutional, and industrial applications. Simulations run with the platform found that the optimization of the PV-CCHP system led to a fuel energy utilization of 83%, compared to a theoretical upper limit of 85%. These values can be compared to 68% for PV+CHP systems that did not account for cooling loads, which show the technical superiority of CCHP systems hybridized to PV. In addition, these results showed that photovoltaic grid penetration can be increased to 24% with the implementation of a distributed network of hybrid PV-CCHP systems. Furthermore, the optimized systems demonstrated significantly lower emission intensities when compared to centralized and residential scale electricity plants and residential heating equipment. While implementation of these systems provide the highest benefits in emission-intensive grids such as Alberta and Halifax, their use in hydro-intensive provinces (ie. Quebec and British Columbia) was found to have potentially rewarding environmental benefits as well depending on fuel types and efficiencies of heating systems.
