▼ In Markov chain models in finance and healthcare a transition matrix over a certain time interval is needed but only a transition matrix over a longer time interval may be available. The problem arises of determining a stochastic pth root of astochastic matrix (the given transition matrix). By exploiting the theory of functions of matrices, we develop results on the existence and characterization of stochastic pth roots. Our contributions include characterization of when a real matrix hasa real pth root, a classification of pth roots of a possibly singular matrix,a sufficient condition for a pth root of a stochastic matrix to have unit row sums,and the identification of two classes of stochastic matrices that have stochastic pth roots for all p. We also delineate a wide variety of possible configurationsas regards existence, nature (primary or nonprimary), and number of stochastic roots,and develop a necessary condition for existence of a stochastic root in terms of the spectrum of the given matrix. On the computational side, we emphasize finding an approximate stochastic root: perturb the principal root A^1/p or the principal logarithm log(A) to the nearest stochastic matrix or the nearest intensity matrix, respectively, if they are not valid ones;minimize the residual \normF{X^p-A} over all stochastic matrices X and also over stochastic matrices that are primary functions of A. For the first two nearness problems, the global minimizers are found in the Frobenius norm. For the last two nonlinear programming problems, we derive explicit formulae for the gradient and Hessian of the objective function \normF{X^p-A}² and investigate Newton's method, a spectral projected gradient method (SPGM) and the sequential quadratic programming method to solve the problem as well as various matrices to start the iteration. Numerical experiments show that SPGM starting with the perturbed A^1/pto minimize \normF{X^p-A} over all stochastic matrices is method of choice.Finally, a new algorithm is developed for computing arbitrary real powers A^\a of a matrix A∈ℂ^{n × n}. The algorithm starts with a Schur decomposition,takes k square roots of the triangular factor T, evaluates an [m/m] Pad\'e approximant of (1-x)^\a at I - T^{1/2^k}, and squares the result k times. The parameters k and m are chosen to minimize the cost subject to achieving double precision accuracy in the evaluation of the Pad\'e approximant, making use of a result that bounds the error in the matrix Pad\'e approximant by the error in the scalar Pad\'e approximant with argument the norm of the matrix. The Pad\'e approximant is evaluated from the continued fraction representation in bottom-up fashion, which is shown to be numerically stable. In the squaring phase the diagonal and first superdiagonal are computed from explicit formulae for T^{\a/2^j}, yielding increased accuracy. ▼ This thesis presents results in two apparently disparate mathematical fields which can both be examined – and even united – by means of pure analysis. Fractional calculus is the study of differentiation and integration to non-integer orders. Dating back to Leibniz, this idea was considered by many great mathematical figures, and in recent decades it has been used to model many real-world systems and processes, but a full development of the mathematical theory remains incomplete. Many techniques for partial differential equations (PDEs) can be extended to fractional PDEs too. Three chapters below cover my results in this area: establishing the elliptic regularity theorem, Malgrange-Ehrenpreis theorem, and unified transform method for fractional PDEs. Each one is analogous to a known result for classical PDEs, but the proof in the general fractional scenario requires new ideas and modifications. Fractional derivatives and integrals are not uniquely defined: there are many different formulae, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. The most commonly used is the classical Riemann-Liouville model, but others may be preferred in different situations, and now new fractional models are being proposed and developed each year. This creates many opportunities for new research, since each time a model is proposed, its mathematical fundamentals need to be examined and developed. Two chapters below investigate some of these new models. My results on the Atangana-Baleanu model proposed in 2016 have already had a noticeable impact on research in this area. Furthermore, this model and the results concerning it can be extended to more general fractional models which also have certain desirable properties of their own. Fractional calculus and zeta functions have rarely been united in research, but one chapter below covers a new formula expressing the Lerch zeta function as a fractional derivative of an elementary function. This result could have many ramifications in both fields, which are yet to be explored fully. Zeta functions are very important in analytic number theory: the Riemann zeta function relates to the distribution of the primes, and this field contains some of the most persistent open problems in mathematics. Since 2012, novel asymptotic techniques have been applied to derive new results on the growth of the Riemann zeta function. One chapter below modifies some of these techniques to prove asymptotics to all orders for the Hurwitz zeta function. Many new ideas are required, but the end result is more elegant than the original one for Riemann zeta, because some of the new methodologies enable different parts of the argument to be presented in a more unified way. Several related problems involve asymptotics arbitrarily near a stationary point. Ideally it should be possible to find uniform asymptotics which provide a smooth transition between the integration by parts and stationary phase methods. One chapter below solves this problem for a particular integral which arises in the analysis of zeta functions.

▼ In high-tech industry (sub)nanometre precision motion control is essential. For example wafer scanners, used for production of integrated circuits, have to provide (sub)nanometre precision positioning whilst satisfying challenging requirements on speed at the same time. It is in demanding cases like this that different requirements begin to conflict with each other. A fundamental trade-off between robustness and performance exists as an inevitable result of the waterbed effect in linear control. PID controllers, which have been an industry-standard for many years, do not satisfy the ever increasing demands. In this MSc thesis a novel reset control synthesis method is proposed: CRONE reset control, which combines a robust fractional CRONE controller (Commande Robuste d’Ordre Non-Entier) with non-linear reset control to overcome waterbed effect. In CRONE control, robustness is achieved against gain deviations by creation of constant phase behaviour around bandwidth with the use of fractional operators. The use of fractional operators also introduces more freedom in shaping the open- loop frequency response, allowing fractional factors in Bode’s gain-phase relation. However, waterbed effect remains, which motivates introduction of non-linear reset control in the CRONE design. In reset control, controller states are reset when the error between output- and reference- signal is zero. In frequency domain, using describing function analysis it is predicted that reset filters generate less phase lag for similar gain behaviour. For instance, a reset integrator gives a phase lag of about 38 degrees, which is 52 degrees less compared to the linear integrator. This allows for relief from Bode’s gain-phase relation, breaking aforementioned trade-offs. In the new controller design, reset phase advantage is approximated using describing function analysis and used to achieve better open-loop shape. New design rules for CRONE reset control have been developed in this thesis. Three different reset control strategies have been investigated: integrator reset, lag reset and lead- lag/lag-lead reset. For these controllers, a two-degree-of-freedom non-linearity tuning CRONE reset control structure has been developed. This control structure has been implemented digitally within a MATLAB/Simulink environment on a Lorentz-actuated (dual) precision stage via a real-time dSPACE DS1103 controller interface. For the implemented controllers sufficient quadratic stability has been shown using the Hβ-condition. It has been shown that simulated frequency responses using describing function correspond well to experimental identified frequency responses. Moreover, frequency domain measurements have shown that better performance for CRONE reset control can be achieved for same phase margin compared to linear CRONE. Relief from both waterbed effect and Bode’s gain-phase relation has been accomplished. ▼ We investigate the anticyclotomic p-adic L-function that interpolates the central value of the Rankin-Selberg L-function L(f¿¿,s), where f is a fixed classical modular form and ¿ a Hecke character of an imaginary quadratic field varying in an anticyclotomic family. Such p-adic L-functions were first constructed by Bertolini-Darmon-Prasanna using toric integrals. We give an alternative construction using Ichino's triple-product formula, applied to a fixed modular form and a pair of CM forms. Using two CM forms gives us flexibility to obtain precise results in cases that are difficult to analyze from other constructions, such as when the family of Hecke characters leads to residually reducible Galois representations after induction. In particular our results and techniques apply to the family passing through the trivial character, and thus are suited for future arithmetic applications towards elliptic curves. The first step of the computation is to make Ichino's formula completely explicit in a classical context, resulting in an equation relating a classical Petersson inner product to a product of two Rankin-Selberg L-values. To work out the constant exactly, we need to evaluate certain local integrals at finite places that arise from Ichino's formula. To handle these, we collect various results and techniques from the literature and make some computations ourselves. Once we have an explicit equation, we simultaneously vary the two CM forms in Hida families. By combining some Hida theory with the Main Conjecture of Iwasawa Theory for imaginary quadratic fields (a theorem of Rubin) we show that the Petersson inner products on one side of our equation vary p-adically analytically. From this we conclude that the L-values we're interested in vary p-adically, and moreover obtain a formula relating the p-adic family interpolating Petersson inner products to a product of our p-adic L-function and a fixed L-value. ▼ Les procédés industriels de transformation des grandes productions végétales génèrent des quantités importantes de coproduits qui peuvent très souvent trouver une valorisation en tant que sources de molécules à valeur ajoutée pour l'agrochimie. Les travaux de thèse se polarisent sur une matière première originale : le chanvre (Cannabis sativa L.), plante riche en une lignine particulière, de caractéristiques différentes de celle du bois et beaucoup plus accessible. Le procédé de défibrage du chanvre (Cannabis sativa L.) génère 30% de fibres pour 70% de co-produits lignocellulosiques : chènevotte (50%) et poudre organique (20%) lesquels ont été étudiés ici comme sources potentielles d'acides hydroxycinnamiques (AHC) tels que les acides férulique (AF) et p-coumarique (ApC). Leur répartition structurale dans la matrice lignocellulosique a été évaluée analytiquement par hydrolyses séquencées. L'AF est majoritairement éthérifié à la structure lignocellulosique, et ce pour les deux matières, tandis que l'ApC est principalement sous forme estérifiée dans la poudre organique et lie en proportions équivalentes par des liaisons ester et éther dans la chènevotte. Le fractionnement des coproduits du chanvre pour l'obtention d'extraits et raffinats performants en acides phénoliques a été étudié par extraction assistée par micro-ondes et extraction thermo-mécano-chimique en extrudeur bi-vis. Ces méthodes ont toutes deux permis d'intensifier l'extraction des AHC. Pour la chènevotte, un solvant hydro-alcoolique alcalin conduit aux rendements optimaux en ApC en réacteur micro-ondes et en AF par extrusion bi-vis tandis que, pour la poudre organique, ce même solvant est le plus efficace pour extraire les deux acides phénoliques par extrusion bi-vis. L'enrichissement en AHC des extraits par adsorption sur différents solides microporeux a été étudié. La zéolithe *BEA (beta) a démontré un fort potentiel tant pour l'adsorption d'AHC de solutions modèles que pour ceux contenus dans les extraits issus des schémas de fractionnement. p>The industrial transformation of common cultivated crops generates significant amounts of by-products that can often be valorized as a source of value- added molecules for biochemistry. The present work focuses on an original raw material: hemp (Cannabis sativa L.), rich in a particularly, more accessible, lignin having different characteristics than that of wood. Hemp defibering process (Cannabis sativa L.) generates 30% fibers and 70% lignocellulosic by-products: hemp shives (50%) and hemp dust (20%) which were studied in this work as a potential source of hydroxycinnamic acids (HCA) such as ferulic (FA) and p-coumaric (pCA) acids. ▼ Farmaceutske nauke - Analitika lekova / Pharmaceutical sciences - Drug analysis p>Zolpidem tartarat je nebenzodijazepinski sedativ i hipnotik, koji se koristi za kratkotrajnu terapiju nesanice. Njegovi efekti se manifestuju vezivanjem za benzodiazepinsko vezujuće mesto na GABAA receptoru u CNS-u. Zolpidem baza, koji farmaceutski aktivan deo molekula, podleže laganoj hidrolizi u kiselim i baznim rastvorima usled nestabilnosti tercijarne amidne funkcionalne grupe prisutne u njegovoj strukturi. Proizvodi ove hidrolize su zolpacid i dimetilamin. Oksozolpidem, zolpiridin i zolpaldehid su takoñe potencijalni degradacioni proizvodi zolpidem-tartarata. Kako prisustvo degradacionih proizvoda može da utiče na hemijske, farmaceutske i toksikološke osobine doziranog oblika, prema ICH smernicama moraju da se ispituju sve nečistoće prisutne u doziranom obliku u količini većoj od 0.1%. Zbog toga je razvijena nova, brza RP-HPLC metoda za odreñivanje zolpidem-tartarata i ključnih degradacionih proizvoda. Kako na hromatografsko ponašanje analiziranih supstanci mogu da utiču različiti eksperimentalni faktori odlučeno je da se razvoj i optimizacija metode sprovedu uz pomoć eksperimentalnog dizajna. Frakcioni faktorski dizajn je korišćen da se detektuju sve promenljive koje značajno utiču na hromatografsku metodu, centralni kompozicioni dizajn je korišćen za optimizaciju tih promenljivih, a multikriterijumski princip odlučivanja u formi Deringerove funkcije je primenjen za postizanje odgovarajućeg kompromisa izmeñu različitih hromatografskih ciljeva, kao što su zadovoljavajuća rezolucija izmeñu svih ispitivanih supstanci uz najkraće moguće trajanje hromatografske analize. Nakon toga, metoda je uspešno validirana u skladu sa ICH smernicama i primenjena za ispitivanje komercijalno dostupnih zolpidem-tartarat film-tableta. ▼ Fractal concepts have been used in geometric characterizations as well as models of various material microstructures and deformation patterns. The first part of this dissertation studies fractal patterns of plastic regions observed in elastoplastic deformations. As a paradigm, we focus on a random material model with microscale randomness in material properties. When it is subjected to increasing macroscopically uniform loadings, plasticized grains form fractal patterns gradually filling the entire material domain and the sharp kink in the conventional stress-strain curve is replaced by a smooth one. Parametric studies are performed to investigate qualitative influences of material constants or randomness on the elastic-plastic transitions. Following scaling analysis in phase transition theory, we recognize three order parameters in terms of stress-strain, fractal dimension, and plastic volume fraction, which, for the first time, are quantitatively related through proposed scaling functions. A broad range of materials are studied, especially the widely used von Mises models for metals and Mohr-Coulomb models for rocks and soils. Polycrystals and thermo-elasto-plastic materials are also investigated. The fractal character of many porous materials motivates the second part of this dissertation: theoretical modeling of fractally microstructured materials. Using dimensional regularization techniques, a fractional integral is introduced to reflect the mass scaling on fractals. We propose a product measure consistent with generally anisotropic fractals and also simplify previous formulations from decoupling of coordinate variables. Two continuum models are developed – the classical continuum and the micropolar continuum – whereby a consistency of mechanical with variational approaches verifies our formulations. Also, some elastodynamic problems are studied. Finally, we conduct two application case studies: Saturn’s rings and bone microstructures. Their fractal dimensions are measured from public NASA images and our micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) images, respectively. The values indicate important invariable properties. ▼ Many traditional Information Retrieval (IR) models assume that query terms are independent of each other. For those models, a document is normally represented as a bag of words/terms and their frequencies. Although traditional retrieval models can achieve reasonably good performance in many applications, the corresponding independence assumption has limitations. There are some recent studies that investigate how to model term associations/dependencies by proximity measures. However, the modeling of term associations theoretically under the probabilistic retrieval framework is still largely unexplored. In this thesis, I propose a new concept named Cross Term, to model term proximity, with the aim of boosting retrieval performance. With Cross Terms, the association of multiple query terms can be modeled in the same way as a simple unigram term. In particular, an occurrence of a query term is assumed to have an impact on its neighboring text. The degree of the query term impact gradually weakens with increasing distance from the place of occurrence. Shape functions are used to characterize such impacts. Based on this assumption, I first propose a bigram CRoss TErm Retrieval (CRTER2) model for probabilistic IR and a Language model based model CRTER2LM. Specifically, a bigram Cross Term occurs when the corresponding query terms appear close to each other, and its impact can be modeled by the intersection of the respective shape functions of the query terms. Second, I propose a generalized n-gram CRoss TErm Retrieval (CRTERn) model recursively for n query terms where n>2. For n-gram Cross Term, I develop several distance metrics with different properties and employ them in the proposed models for ranking. Third, an enhanced context-sensitive proximity model is proposed to boost the CRTER models, where the contextual relevance of term proximity is studied. The models are validated on several large standard data sets, and show improved performance over other state-of-art approaches. I also discusse the practical impact of the proposed models. The fact that the well known spaces L1() and C() have this property (as was proved by Dunford and Pettis) was a remarkable achievement in the early history of Banach spaces and was motivated by the study of integral equations and the hope to develop an understanding of linear operators on Lp() for p ≥ 1. In fact, it played an important role in proving that for each weakly compact operator T : L1()  L1() or T : C()  C(), the operator T2 is compact, a fact which is important from the point of view that there is a nice spectral theory for compact operators and operators whose squares are compact. There is an extensive literature involving the Dunford-Pettis property. Almost all the articles and books in our list of references contain some information about this property, but there are plenty more that could have been listed. The reader is for instance referred to [4], [5], [7], [8], [10], [17] and [24] for information on the role of the DPP in different areas of Banach space theory. In this dissertation, however, we are motivated by the two papers [7] and [8] to study alternative Dunford-Pettis properties, to introduce a scale of (new) alternative Dunford-Pettis properties, which we call DP*-properties of order p (briefly denoted by DP*P), and to consider characterisations of Banach spaces with these properties as well as applications thereof to polynomials and holomorphic functions on Banach spaces. In the paper [8] the class Cp(X, Y) of p-convergent operators from a Banach space X to a Banach space Y is introduced. Replacing the requirement that weakly compact operators on X should be completely continuous in the case of the DPP for X (as is mentioned above) by “weakly compact operators on X should be p-convergent", an alternative Dunford-Pettis property (called the Dunford-Pettis property of order p) is introduced. More precisely, if 1 ≤ p ≤ , a Banach space X is said to have DPPp if the inclusion W(X, Y)  Cp(X, Y) holds for all Banach spaces Y . ▼ Doktorska disertacija je posvećena rešavanju Košijevog problema odabranih klasa frakcionih diferencijalnih jednačina u okviru Kolomboovih prostora uopštenih funkcija. U prvom delu disertacije razmatrane su nehomogene evolucione jednačine sa prostorno frakcionim diferencijalnim operatorima reda 0 < α < 2 i koeficijentima koji zavise od x i t. Ova klasa jednačina je aproksimativno rešavana, tako što je umesto početne jednačine razmatrana aproksimativna jednačina data preko regularizovanih frakcionih izvoda, odnosno, njihovih regularizovanih množitelja. Za rešavanje smo koristili dobro poznate uopštene uniformno neprekidne polugrupe operatora. U drugom delu disertacije aproksimativno su rešavane nehomogene frakcione evolucione jednačine sa Kaputovim frakcionim izvodom reda 0 < α < 2, linearnim, zatvorenim i gusto definisanim operatorom na prostoru Soboljeva celobrojnog reda i koeficijentima koji zavise od x. Odgovarajuća aproksimativna jednačina sadrži uopšteni operator asociran sa polaznim operatorom, dok su rešenja dobijena primenom, za tu svrhu u disertaciji konstruisanih, uopštenih uniformno neprekidnih operatora rešenja. U oba slučaja ispitivani su uslovi koji obezbeduju egzistenciju i jedinstvenost rešenja Košijevog problema na odgovarajućem Kolomboovom prostoru. p> Colombeau spaces of generalized functions. In the firs part, we studied inhomogeneous evolution equations with space fractional differential operators of order 0 < α < 2 and variable coefficients depending on x and t. This class of equations is solved approximately, in such a way that instead of the originate equation we considered the corresponding approximate equation given by regularized fractional derivatives, i.e. their regularized multipliers. In the solving procedure we used a well-known generalized uniformly continuous semigroups of operators. In the second part, we solved approximately inhomogeneous fractional evolution equations with Caputo fractional derivative of order 0 < α < 2, linear, closed and densely defined operator in Sobolev space of integer order and variable coefficients depending on x. The corresponding approximate equation is a given by the generalized operator associated to the originate operator, while the solutions are obtained by using generalized uniformly continuous solution operators, introduced and developed for that purpose. ▼ El presente trabajo está dedicado al análisis de una clase particular de operadores (lineales y continuos) entre espacios de Banach de funciones. El objetivo es avanzar en la teoría de los llamados operadores factorizables a la p-potencia analizando todos los aspectos de la dualidad. Esta clase de operadores ha demostrado ser de utilidad tanto en la teoría de factorización de operadores sobre espacios de Banach de funciones (teoría de Maurey-Rosenthal) como en el Análisis Armónico (dominios óptimos de la transformada de Fourier y operadores de convolución). A ¿n de desarrollar esta teoría de dualidad y sus aplicaciones, se de¿ne y estudia una nueva clase de operadores con propiedades de extensión que involucran al operador y a su adjunto. Ésta es la familia de operadores factorizables a la (p,q)- potencia, 1 · p,q Ç 1, y pueden caracterizarse mediante un esquema de factorización a través del espacio de p-potencias del dominio y el dual del espacio de q-potencias del dual del codominio. También se obtiene una equivalencia mediante un diagrama de factorización a través de espacios L p (m) y L q (n) 0 , donde m y n son medidas vectoriales adecuadas y ésta será nuestra principal herramienta. Para esta construcción resultan necesarios algunos resultados preliminares relativos a las p-potencias de los espacios de Banach de funciones que intervienen y que también se estudian. Con estos útiles se dan algunos resultados para caracterizar el rango óptimo ¿el menor espacio de Banach de funciones en el que puede tomar valores el operador¿ para operadores que van de un espacio de Banach a un espacio de Banach de funciones. Además, se desarrolla y presenta formalmente la idea de factorización óptima de un operador que optimiza una factorización previa, en términos del diagrama que debe satisfacer un operador factorizable a su (p,q)-potencia. Todos estos resultados extienden los actuales cálculos del dominio óptimo mediante medidas vectoriales para operadores sobre espacios de Banach de funciones. Dichos cálculos han dado resultados relevantes en diversas áreas del análisis matemático mediante una descripción del mayor espacio de Banach de funciones al cual, operadores relevantes ¿como la transformada de Fourier o el operador de Hardy¿ se pueden extender. La teoría se aplica para encontrar nuevos resultados en determinados campos: como la teoría de interpolación de operadores entre espacios de Banach de funciones, los operadores de núcleo y en particular, la transformada de Laplace.
