▼ The displacement operator is related to the displaced parity operator through a two dimensional Fourier transform. Both operators are important operators in phase space and the trace of both with respect to the density operator gives the Wigner functions (displaced parity operator) and Weyl functions (displacement operator). The generalisation of the parity-displacement operator relationship considered here is called the bi-fractional displacement operator, O(α, β; θα, θβ). Additionally, the bi-fractional displacement operators lead to the novel concept of bi-fractional coherent states. The generalisation from Fourier transform to fractional Fourier transform can be applied to other phase space functions. The case of the Wigner-Weyl function is considered and a generalisation is given, which is called the bi-fractional Wigner functions, H(α, β; θα, θβ). Furthermore, the Q−function and P−function are also generalised to give the bi-fractional Q−functions and bi-fractional P−functions respectively. The generalisation is likewise applied to the Moyal star product and Berezin formalism for products of non-commutating operators. These are called the bi-fractional Moyal star product and bi-fractional Berezin formalism. Finally, analysis, applications and implications of these bi-fractional transforms to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, photon statistics and future applications are discussed.

▼ Magneto-electro-elastic materials can convert energies
from one form to the other among the mechanical, electric and
magnetic ones, and thus they have potential applications in clean
energy harvest, various sensors, actuators and other hi-tech areas.
Analytical solutions are of great importance to analyze behaviors
of magneto-electro-elastic materials, especially for
magneto-electro-elastic
bi-materials whose interface could
substantially influence behaviors of the whole material. The
extended Stroh
formalism and Fourier transformation are adopted to
derive the fundamental solutions in a three-dimesional
magneto-electro-elastic
bi-material. The solutions are in a line
integral form. Responses on the interface are investigated. In
terms of geometric domains, the obtained analytical solutions can
be reduced to the ones in half space and homogeneous full space. In
terms of material properties, the obtained solutions can be reduced
to the ones in decoupled cases such as piezoelectric, piezomagnetic
or elastic materials. Interfacial cracks with impermeable
conditions on crack faces in three-dimensional
magneto-electro-elastic as well as two-dimensional piezoelectric
bi-materials are investigated. A numerical scheme based on the
Crouch-type fundamental solutions and the extended
displacement-discontinuity method is defined for analyzing
interfacial cracks. The physically unreal oscillating singularity
at the interfacial crack tip or front is avoided by replacing the
delta expression with the distribution function in the solutions.
The influence of this replacement and the effect of the Gaussian
parameter on predicting fracture parameters are examined
numerically. Electric and magnetic nonlinearities at interfacial
crack fronts in a magneto-electro-elastic
bi-material are
considered by adopting the electric-magnetic polarization
saturation model. In this model, the perfect electric displacement
and magnetic induction saturations are assumed. Green’s functions
for the ring element of uniform extended displacement
discontinuities are derived to form the system of equations in the
extended displacement discontinuity method. The unknown sizes of
the electric and magnetic saturation zones are determined by the
vanishing of the electric displacement and magnetic induction
intensity factors at corresponding crack fronts. An iteration
approach is designed to solve for the two unknown sizes. The effect
of the electric/magnetic field on the saturation zones as well as
the influence of the saturation zones on the stress intensity
factor is discussed.

▼ The presented dissertation thesis deals with evaluation of the leading terms of the Williams asymptotic expansion describing an in-plane electro-elastic field at the tip of piezoelectric
bi-material notches and interface cracks using the expanded Lekhnitskii-Eshelby-Stroh
formalism in connection to the pure anisotropic elasticity. It is demonstrated that the expanded Lekhnitskii-Eshelby-Stroh
formalism with modern Python programming concepts represents an effective theoretical as well as a practical tool for the fracture analysis of piezoelectric
bi-materials. The theoretical part of the thesis outlines aspects of anisotropic elasticity and their connection with piezoelectric materials. The governing equations focused on special types of monoclinic piezoelectric materials, which enable decoupling to the in-plane and anti-plane problem, are introduced via the complex potentials. In the practical part of the thesis, the eigenvalue problem of a
bi-material notch is proposed in order to determine the singularity exponents as well as the generalized stress intensity factors by application of the two-state -integral. All relations and numerical procedures are applied to the pure anisotropic and subsequently expanded to the piezoelectric fracture problem of
bi-material notches and deeply investigated in the numerical examples. A special attention is paid to the change of the asymptotic solution connected with the transition of a very closed notch into an interface crack. Also the influence of arbitrary oriented poling directions upon asymptotic solution is investigated. The accuracy of calculations of the generalised stress intensity factors is tested by comparing the asymptotic solutions with results obtained by the finite element method using a very fine mesh. Finally, the
formalism is modified for non-piezoelectric media such as conductors and insulators.

Berezin-Toeplitz operators allow to quantize functions, or symbols, on compact Kähler manifolds, and are defined using the Bergman (or Szeg\H{o}) kernel. We study the spectrum of Toeplitz operators in an asymptotic regime which corresponds to a semiclassical limit. This study is motivated by the atypic magnetic behaviour observed in certain crystals at low temperature. We study the concentration of eigenfunctions of Toeplitz operators in cases where subprincipal effects (of same order as the semiclassical parameter) discriminate between different classical configurations, an effect known in physics as quantum selection . We show a general criterion for quantum selection and we give detailed eigenfunction expansions in the Morse and Morse-Bott case, as well as in a degenerate case. We also develop a new framework in order to treat Bergman kernels and Toeplitz operators with real-analytic regularity. We prove that the Bergman kernel admits an expansion with exponentially small error on real-analytic manifolds. We also obtain exponential accuracy in compositions and spectra of operators with analytic symbols, as well as exponential decay of eigenfunctions.

Entire polyanalytic functions generalize entire functions in that they are solutions of "Cauchy-Riemann equations of order n, of the form {\partial}n f / \partial z̅n = 0, over the whole complex plane ℂ. Polyanalytic Fock space F2α,n is, by analogy with the classical case, the closed subspace of the Hilbert space L2(ℂ,dμ_α), where μ_α is a Gaussian probability measure over ℂ with weight α>0, of polyentire functions of order n. The aim of this PhD thesis is the study of classical objects of operator theory such that the Berezin transform and Toeplitz operators in the particular case of polyanalytic Fock spaces. In this written, it is shown among other results, that the Lp fixed points of the Berezin transform are constant functions. Concerning Toeplitz operators, the Sarason problem is studied. Given a function f, the Toeplitz operator with symbol f is formally defined by Tnf(h)=PF2n(f h), where PF2n is the orthogonal projection from L2(ℂ,dμ) on to F2n. The so-called Sarason's problem consists in finding necessary and sufficient conditions on the symbols f and g for the Toeplitz product with symbols f and \bar g to be bounded in the Fock space.

▼ We develop a new spectral theory of
fractional
Sturm-Liouville problems and further generalize it to a tempered
class of eigen-problems. Our theory fractionalizes and then tempers
the well-known Sturm-Liouville problem. This approach extends the
standard family of Jacobi polynomials to a new class of
fractional
orthogonal functions, namely Jacobi Polyfractonomials and tempered
Jacobi Polyfractonomials, which enjoy many attractive properties.
We introduce these
fractional eigenfunctions as optimal basis/test
functions in developing high-order Petrov Galerkin
spectral/spectral-element methods for
fractional ODEs/FPDEs. In
addition to their high accuracy and ability to capture
singularities, our numerical schemes rigorously generalize the
existing standard spectral methods for PDEs to FPDEs. Next, for
fast treatment of nonlinear and multi-term FPDEs such as
fractional
Burgers equation, we develop a new spectral method, called the
fractional spectral collocation method, which introduces a new
class of
fractional Lagrange interpolants. For simulation of
multi-dynamics systems, we also propose that by varying the
differential order of a given governing equation as a function of
space and/or time, we can capture a wide range of dynamics from
diffusion to sub-diffusion or from wave dynamics transitioning back
to diffusion. For such variable-order and distributed-order FPDEs,
we have developed two fast and spectrally accurate numerical
algorithms. In addition, while almost all existing methods for
FPDEs are applicable only in one- or at most two-dimensional
problems, we develop a unified Petrov-Galerkin spectral method that
solves elliptic, hyperbolic, and parabolic FPDEs in high
dimensions. We also formulate an implicit explicit (IMEX) splitting
scheme for simulation of stiff problems. Moreover, we construct an
implicit-explicit (IMEX) scheme of an observable second order
accuracy. We employ this scheme to solve a system of Keller-Segel
chemotaxis FPDEs as a biological application. Finally, we formulate
a family of
fractional modal expansions for non-tensorial domains
such as triangle and tetrahedral elements. We test the
approximability of such
fractional basis function by carrying out
Galerkin projection in simplex domain. This framework will be
employed for efficient treatment of FPDEs in complex geometries in
future.

▼ We will examine how we can use Caputo???s definition of a
fractional derivative to develop a method to numerically evaluate a
fractional derivative of a function at a point. A
fractional derivative can be thought as an instantaneous
fractional average. In addition we will take some concepts from Complex Step Differentiation to help improve the method. We will also examine how to improve the Riemann-Liouville
fractional integral. We will find that we can get solutions to these operators with relative error of between 0 and 10???7, with an average error of 10???12. We will see by reformulating the different operators we can control singularities in the operators. It will also be shown that these operators smoothly deform a function to its nth order derivative or integral.

▼ We review a field theory approach to Higher Spin
Gravity in 4 dimensional Anti de Sitter (AdS) space within the
framework of the AdS/CFT correspondence. Based on large N
collective field theory of vector type models, we develop a
bi-local dipole picture of Higher Spin theory. We also describe a
geometric (Kahler space) framework for the
bi-local theory which
applies to Sp(2N) fermions and potentially to the de Sitter (dS)
correspondence. We discuss in this framework the structure and size
of the
bi-local Hilbert space and the implementation of (finite N)
exclusion principle. For the correspondence based on free CFTs we
first discuss the transformation for O(N) collective field and the
Higher spin filed, and then the nature of bulk 1/N interactions
through an S-matrix which by the Coleman-Mandula theorem is argued
to be equal to 1.

The results of this thesis show links between the Berezin – Toeplitz quantization and noncommutative geometry. We first give an overview of the three different domains we handle: the theory of Toeplitz operators (classical and generalized), the geometric and deformation quantizations and the principal tools we use in noncommutative geometry. The first step of the study consists in giving examples of spectral triples (A,H,D) involving algebras of Toeplitz operators acting on the Hardy and weighted Bergman spaces over a smoothly bounded strictly pseudoconvex domain Omega of Cn, and also on the Fock space over Cn. It is shown that resulting noncommutative spaces are regular and of the same dimension as the complex domain. We also give and compare different classes of operator D, first by transporting the usual Dirac operator on L2(Rn) via unitaries, and then by considering the Poisson extension operator or the complex normal derivative on the boundary.Secondly, we show how the Berezin – Toeplitz star product over Omega naturally induces a spectral triple of dimension n+1 whose construction involves sequences of Toeplitz operators over weighted Bergman spaces. This result led us to study more generally to what extent a family of spectral triples can be integrated to form another spectral triple. We also provide an example of such triple.

▼ This thesis is concerned with quantization of two types of multisymplectic manifolds that have multisymplectic forms coming from a Kahler form. In chapter 2 we show that in both cases they can be quantized using Berezin-Toeplitz quantization and that the quantizations have reasonable semiclassical properties.
In the last chapter of this work, we obtain two additional results. The first concerns the deformation quantization of the (2n-1)-plectic structure that we examine in chapter 2, we make the first step toward the definition of a star product on the Nambu-Poisson algebra (C∞(M),{.,...,.}). The second result concerns the algebraic properties of the generalized commutator.

▼ Perverse Form and Victorian Lyric examines a tradition of lyric expressivity, exploring connections between language, subjectivity, and agency. By attending to salient formal issues in the work of three Victorian poets for whom pattern becomes persona-Algernon Charles Swinburne, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and Gerard Manley Hopkins-the dissertation argues for a poetic counter-tradition defined in opposition to major aesthetic commonplaces of the nineteenth and twentieth century. More particularly, this study shows how the voice of lyric-commonly regarded as the expression of a central self-is, in late Victorian writing, not the product of an organizing subjectivity, but the effect of apparently derivative formal technique. Rather than being grounded in the individual
subject, the rhetorical and formal urgencies of Victorian poetry create situations of utterance where human characteristics, such as feeling, thought, and desire, hang on patterns of sound and line-what is here called perverse form.

▼ This paper reviews both the law and the theoretical accounts of the doctrine of consideration with a view to look for a normative, consistent and public basis of it. The thesis argues that such a basis can only be found by justifying it as what it is instead of considering it as a proxy for something else. The most promising justificatory account of the doctrine should look at its main features and try to make sense of them in consistency, instead of putting up assumption before analysis.

In this thesis, we define and study a formalism which allows one to work on Tannakian questions for groups defined over generalized differential rings, which generalize both differential rings and difference rings. We define a notion of differential Tanakian category which is similar to the usual Tannakian formalism, adding a structure which permits to describe the differential structure induced by the generalized differential. We then study the model-theoretical properties of the resulting categories, realizing the Tannakian group associated to a category as a model-theoretical binding group. In the last chapter, we study the notion of universe associated to a first-order structure, and we introduce a topology in this context, which is reminiscent of the topology on the spaces of types in first-order Model Theory. We also study the notion of binding groupoid from the point of view of universes

▼ Modernism and the Narrative Cultures of Film treats writing about film as a literary genre unto itself, where authors spun self-reflexive fictions about the cinema that doubled as commentaries on their own novelistic experiments. For the early period of the twentieth century in which no definition of cinema was self-evident, each description of the medium assumed the speculative quality of a fiction. Reading literature by Virginia Woolf, H. D. and Henry Green alongside film reviews and treatises on aesthetics, I show that film offered a displaced figure for persistent questions about representation, psychology, and narrative omniscience. Cast alternately as a mechanized art of surfaces and as the ideal vehicle of subjectivity, as the epitome of aesthetic detachment and as the prime example of art's manifest entanglement in everyday life, film lent itself to rampant figuration, at once organizing and undoing the central antagonisms of modernist aesthetics.
I argue that the mobile appropriation, affirmation, and disavowal of film by modernist writers provided ready occasions to rethink literary narration. Situating these writings within the chaotic debates about film as “art,” Modernism and the Narrative Cultures of Film shows that literary descriptions of cinema functioned as richly digressive allegories of narrative method, in which notions of subjectivity, language, and omniscience were reconfigured in the shadow of a medium that seemed to make those categories at once obsolete and newly urgent. As the works of Virginia Woolf, H. D., and Henry Green attest, such literary fables of cinematic meaning (and meaninglessness) harbored striking—if oblique—meditations on narrative innovation and its social content, seeking unlikely affinities between the apparent privacy of prose and the conjectural modes of spectatorship. Writing not out of a desire to imitate film but out of a need to address its aesthetic consequences, the writers I consider expressed their discontent with the individualism of the novel, exploring formal modes of collective dissidence and public fantasy.

▼ LIT investigates the power of our daily visual interactions with commercial signage. The exhibition is comprised of ten individual illuminated constructions that appropriate the aesthetic strategies and design elements from commercial signage. The work offers the viewer a new aesthetic experience by nullifying the communicative and directional agendas that would normally accompany commercial signage. The viewer is free to see and experience the captivating nature of formal elements such as shape, color and light. The work explores the intersection of appropriation, minimal aesthetics and everyday experiences.

presented. The method is based upon the
fractional Taylor vector approximations. The operational
matrix of the
fractional integration for the

This matrix is then utilized to reduce the solution of the
fractional calculus problems to the
solution of a system of algebraic equations. This method is used to solve
fractional differential

▼ In this research, a
bi-criteria batching and scheduling problem is investigated in hybrid flow shop environments, where unrelated-parallel machines are run simultaneously with different capacities and eligibilities in processing, in some stages. The objective is to simultaneously minimize a linear combination of the total weighted completion time and total weighted tardiness. The first favors the producer’s interest by minimizing work-in-process inventory, inventory holding cost, and energy consumption as well as maximizing machine utilization, while the second favors the customers’ interest by maximizing customers’ service level and delivery speed. In particular, it disregards the group technology assumptions (GTAs) by allowing for the possibility of splitting pre-determined groups of jobs into inconsistent batches in order to improve the operational efficiency. A comparison between the group scheduling and batch scheduling approaches reveals the outstanding performance of the batch scheduling approach. As a result, contrary to the GTAs, jobs belonging to a group might be processed on more than one machine as batches, but not all machines may be capable of processing all jobs. A sequence- and machine-dependent setup time is required between each of two consecutively scheduled batches belonging to different groups. Based on manufacturing company policy, the desired lower bounds on batch sizes are considered for the number of jobs assigned to batches. Although, the direction in which all jobs move through production line is the same, some jobs may skip some stages. Furthermore, to reflect real industry requirements, the job release times and the machine availability times are considered to be dynamic, which means not all machines and jobs are available at the beginning of the planning horizon.
The problem is formulated with the help of four mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) models. Two out of four MILP models are formulated as two integrated phases, i.e., batching and scheduling phases, with respect to the precedence constraints between each pair of jobs/batches and/or the position concept within batches. The optimal combination between batch compositions of groups are determined in the batching phase, while the optimal assignment and sequence of batches on machines and sequence of jobs within batches are determined in the scheduling phase, with respect to a set of operational constraints. A batch composition of a group corresponding to a particular stage, determined in the batching phase of the MILP model, represents the number of batches assigned to the group as well as the number and type of jobs belonging to each batch of that group. Since the first and second MILP models lead to unmanageable solution space, the relaxed MILP model, which allocates one and only one job to each batch of each group in each stage, can be developed to focus on the non-dominated solution space. The optimal solutions of MILP models and relaxed MILP model are equal, if and only if the optimal solution of the relaxed MILP model does…

▼ The current development technique for
Bi-2212 multifilament superconducting wire is the oxide powder in tube process. For this process, phase pure
Bi-2212 fine powder is loaded into a silver tube then drawn, stacked, and redrawn until the desired filament size and number is achieved. The wire is then cabled and wound onto its final form where it undergoes a partial melt heat treatment in an overpressure environment of 5 -10 MPa. The entire form is cooled in a controlled way to allow the liquid to recrystallize into phase pure
Bi-2212. However, the partial melt heat treatment process leads to several difficulties. Small void spaces within the initial powder can coalesce into large bubbles after the heat treatment. These large bubbles can occlude any supercurrent from traveling along the filament. The melt liquid is also chemically aggressive and will etch and therefore weaken the silver matrix. Lastly, the recrystallized
Bi-2212 is not textured and there is limited connectivity between individual crystal formations. Each of these difficulties need to be addressed simultaneously to optimize the performance of future
Bi-2212 superconducting wires.
A new method for preparing
Bi-2212 multifilament wires is being developed to minimize the effects of the above mentioned difficulties. Fine
Bi-2212 powder is homogenously mixed with nano-scale silver powder and uniaxially compressed into square cross section bars. The bars are loaded into a silver tube then drawn, stacked, and redrawn until the desired filament size and number is achieved. To avoid the complications of the partial melt heat treatment a non-melt heat treatment was
developed. The non-melt heat treatment takes advantage of the material properties of the
Bi-2212/silver interface. The bulk of the
Bi-2212 is never melted, but interconnectivity and grain growth is still achieved.
The cores used to fabricate the multifilament wires display significant superconductivity in liquid nitrogen, but the multifilament wires show no signs of superconductivity. Separate optimization of the wires in liquid helium is required to maximum the supercurrent carrying potential of the multifilament wires. Additional study on oxygen doping during the non-melt heat treatment may also be necessary.

In recent years, the amount of data analysed by companies and research laboratories increased strongly, opening the era of BigData. However, these raw data are frequently non-categorized and uneasy to use. This thesis aims to improve and ease the pre-treatment and comprehension of these big amount of data by using unsupervised machine learning algorithms. The first part of this thesis is dedicated to a state-of-the-art of clustering and biclustering algorithms and to an introduction to big data technologies. The first part introduces the conception of clustering Self-Organizing Map algorithm [Kohonen,2001] in big data…

▼ Tämän diplomityön tavoitteena on tutkia logistiikan kehittämisen ja operatiivisen johtamisen tarpeita datamallinnukselle sekä erilaisille automatisoiduille raporteille. Tutkimus toteutetaan Sandvik Mining and Construction Oy:n logistiikkaan.
Toisena osatavoitteena on siirtää Sandvikin nykyisestä raportointijärjestelmästä (Cognos) kaikki tiedot uuteen järjestelmään (Microsoft Power BI).
Tämän tutkimuksen toisena päätavoitteena on rakentaa kaikki raportit samoihin tietomalleihin perustuen, jotta tietokantaa käytettäisiin mahdollisimman tehokkaasti eri raporttien tarpeisiin. Toisin sanoen samasta datasta on tarkoitus koostaa mahdollisimman monta eri raporttia, rasittamatta tietokantaa uusilla SQL-kyselyillä.

Kaupungilla on valittu ICT-palveluiden tarjoamaksi tiedon analysointivälineeksi Microsoft Power BI.
Tutkimuksessa löytyi useita kehityskohteita Tampereen kaupungin kokonaisarkkitehtuurista. Tutkimuksessa tunnistettiin 15 kehittämiskohdetta, joiden avulla nykytilaa voisi kehittää.

▼ Ellipsometry is an optical technique used for studies of thin films and surfaces. The technique is based on measurement and analysis of the changes in the state of polarization that occur when polarized light is reflected on a sample surface. The multichannel Mueller matrix ellipsometer is a new system that is about to enter the commercial market. It can measure the full 4x4 Mueller matrix of a sample. The Laboratory of Applied Optics at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology at Linköpings University has purchased one such multichannel Mueller matrix ellipsometer, called RC2, from J.A. Woollam Co., Inc. This project has the objective to investigate potentials and limitations of this new ellipsometer. This is done by comparing measurements carried out on RC2 with similar measurements made on a different, well known ellipsometer system, the VASE ellipsometer. A study of the theoretical background of ellipsometry has been made including a description of the Jones formalism of describing optical properties as well as the Stokes/ Mueller formalism. A short theoretical description of the RC2 principles, in order to better understand the new ellipsometer is also given. Measurements have been made on samples of varying complexity, including isotropic and anisotropic samples with in-plane anisotropy and out-of-plane anisotropy. On samples with no depolarization there should be no difference between the two ellipsometers. As can be seen in the experimental results there is some difference, but very little. Both for the isotropic samples, where Δ and ψ have been measured, and anisotropic, where the full Mueller matrix has been measured, we find a good match between VASE and RC2. When the samples are depolarizing, we expect to see a difference in the Mueller matrix. We do notice a significant difference in the measurements on tilted nanometer rods of TiO2, which has an advanced nano-structure in the upper layer. We can thus conclude that samples with depolarizing properties reveal this when measured with the new RC2 ellipsometer.

▼ Abstract: The Arbitrary Order Calculus (AOC) also known as
Fractional Calculus (FC) has become as important as the Integral Order calculus (IOC). Studies involving this topic have been used in many fields within Sciences and Engineering. For this work, a historical survey was made upon it and its origin, which is a result of the personal correspondence exchange between Leibniz and Guillaume L¿Hôspital and therefore it has been used until now. The main purpose of this work is to present the great contributions of researchers and experts who were crucial to its development, what has made it possible and kept in constant improvement until the present days. On the other hand, it also revealed that along with these contributions, some controversies were detected. After the historical facts have been exposed, the main definitions and properties necessary to the comprehension of the
Fractional Calculus and its effective use by Scientists and Engineers were fully presented and explained here

▼ As an extension of the geometric Brownian motion, a geometric fractional Brownian motion (GFBM) is considered as a stock-price model. The modeled GFBM is compared with empirical Chinese stock prices. Comparisons are performed by considering logarithmic-return densities, autocovariance functions, spectral densities and trajectories. Since logarithmic-return densities of GFBM stock prices are Gaussian and empirical stock logarithmic-returns typically are far from Gaussian, a GFBM model may not be the most suitable stock price model.

▼ Since the engenderment of
fractional derivatives in 1695 as a continuous transformation between integer order derivatives, the physical applicability of
fractional derivatives has been questioned. While it is true that they share a set of distinguishing characteristics, no two
fractional derivatives are alike. With each definition mathematically valid but results of one
fractional derivative inconsistent with another, the theory of
fractional calculus slowly evolved to create an interconnected web of ideas, limits, and insight. In time
fractional derivatives came to be recognized as a powerful and ubiquitous tool. For example,
fractional derivatives easily characterize the dynamics of anomalous diffusion in experimental settings where particles are allowed to jump farther than in a Gaussian-distributed random walk. With experimental evidence confirming the physical realization of
fractional derivatives, the emphasis in research has been on developing both analytic and numerical tools to treat specific problems in
fractional calculus. Similarly in this work we approach
fractional derivatives from analytic and numerical perspectives. From large classical systems where it is easy to see the contribution of
fractional derivatives we transition to
fractional quantum mechanics, where the physical interpretation of
fractional derivatives becomes more ambiguous. We concentrate on deriving the
fractional Schroedinger equation via the Feynman path integral, under the assumption that space and time coordinates scale at different rates. This generalization is particularly useful for quantum systems where the underlying potential is characterized by a scaling relation. Scaling relations common to dynamics on self-similar geometries do not themselves justify the replacement of integer order derivatives by
fractional derivatives. Instead, we seek to describe the evolution of a quantum particle in a particular class of nonlocal potentials, where to realize the kinetic energy of a particle we need to consider a large finite neighborhood. We study symmetry properties of the
fractional Schroedinger equation and conclude that only a small subset of
fractional derivatives ensures the Hamiltonian is parity- and time-reversal symmetric. To coalesce several
fractional derivatives and further emphasize the similarities between them, we cast the finite difference
fractional derivative into a sum of integer order derivatives. This expansion is particularly useful for approximating
fractional derivatives of functions that would normally be represented by Taylor series with a finite radius of convergence. In the case when
fractional derivatives are computed by first expanding the function into its Taylor series, we find that if the Taylor series diverges so does the
fractional derivative. The integer derivative expansion allows for the
fractional derivative to go beyond the function's finite radius of convergence. In an effort to come up with a universal way of ensuring the convergence of one
fractional integral, we generalize the well-known…

This thesis deals with the spectral properties of the Toeplitz operators in relation to their associated symbol. In the first part, we give some classical results about Hardy space, model spaces and Bergman space. Afterwards, we expose some results about Toeplitz operator on the Hardy space. In particular, we discuss their spectrum and essential spectrum. Our work is inspired from two facts which have been proved on the Hardy space. First, considering a Toeplitz operator T, the norm, essential norm, spectral radius of T and the supremum of its symbol are equal. Secondly, on the Hardy space, spectrum, essential spectrum and essential range are strongly related. We answer the question of the equality between the norms, the spectral radius and the supremum of the symbol and between spectrum and essential range on the Bergman space. We look at these two properties on the Bergman space when the symbol is radial or quasihomogeneous. We answer these questions using the Berezin transform, the Mellin coefficients and the mean value of the symbol. The last part deals with the classical Szegö theorem which underline a link between the eigenvalues of a Toeplitz matrix sequence and its symbol. We give a result of the same type on Bergman space considering harmonic symbol wich have a continuous extension. We give a generalization, considering the sequence of the compressions of a Toeplitz operator on a sequence of model spaces.
