O desenvolvimento de pesquisas relativas ao comportamento das estruturas offshore são de fundamental importância para as atividades de exploração de petróleo a fim de permitir uma análise mais precisa do desempenho do sistema de ancoragem. Neste sentido, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o comportamento das linhas de ancoragem submetidas a esforços de tração bem como avaliar e quantificar a atenuação das cargas ao longo do trecho enterrado determinando assim as forças que efetivamente chegam à estaca torpedo. Inicialmente foram projetados e construídos os equipamentos, em modelo reduzido, para a realização dos ensaios experimentais de carregamento estático conduzidos na escala de 1:40. As argilas empregadas nos ensaios foram produzidas em laboratório com o objetivo de obter um solo com propriedades físicas similares à da argila típica do leito marinho, a partir da mistura caulim, bentonita e água, sendo definida a composição em massa seca de 85% de caulim, 15% de bentonita e teores de 100% de umidade para a mistura denominada como argila A, e 120% de umidade para a mistura referida como argila B. Após a caracterização geotécnica concluiu-se que a argila B se assemelha às condições de campo. A força que chega ao ponto de ancoragem, equivalente ao que seria o ponto de fixação da amarra ao torpedo, foi medida experimentalmente através de uma célula de carga para duas componentes (vertical e horizontal) instalada no piso do tanque. A catenária invertida formada pela amarra foi registrada em alguns pontos não visíveis através de um sensor por ultrassom. O carregamento da linha de ancoragem foi produzido para diferentes ângulos de incidência, em ciclos de carga e descarga. Os resultados mostram que, mesmo em uma abordagem estática, flutuações de carga na linha de ancoragem não são inteiramente transmitidas ao ponto de ancoragem (torpedo), sendo parcialmente absorvidas ao longo do trecho enterrado da amarra. A atenuação de carga na argila A foi de 24%, enquanto que a atenuação apresentada na argila B variou entre 14 %, 6% e tendendo a 0 nos ensaios realizados respectivamente nas alturas de solo de 72 cm, 48 cm e 24 cm. Verificou-se também que a qualidade dos critérios de similaridade inicialmente adotados foi satisfatória.

The research development on the behavior of offshore structures is fundamentaly important for the exploration of oil in order to allow a more precise analysis of the performance of offshore mooring systems. ▼ The design of a mooring system for a floating structure is a significant challenge; the choice of line structure and layout determine highly non-linear hydrodynamic behaviors that, in turn, influence the dynamics of the whole system. The difficulty is particularly acute for Self-Reacting Point Absorber Wave Energy Converters (SRPA WEC) as these machines rely on their movements to extract useful power from wave motions and the mooring must constrain the SRPA WEC motion without detracting from power production. In this thesis this topic has been addressed in an innovative way and new ideas on how these devices should be moored were investigated. As part of the study, an optimization routine was implemented to investigate the optimal mooring design and its characteristics. In this process, different challenges were faced. To evaluate the different mooring configurations, a high fidelity representation of the system hydrodynamics is necessary which captures the non-linearities of the system. Unfortunately, high-fidelity modeling tends to be very computationally expensive, and for this reason previous studies based mooring design largely relies on simplified representations that only reflect part of the mooring design space since some physical and hydrodynamic properties are dropped. In this work, we present how a full hydrodynamic time domain simulation can be utilized within a Metamodel-Based Optimization to better evaluate a wider range of mooring configurations spanning the breadth of the full design space. The method uses a Metamodel, defined in terms of the mooring physical parameters, to cover the majority of the optimization process a high fidelity model is used to establish the Metamodel in a pre-processing stage. The method was applied to a case study of a two-body heaving SRPA WEC. Survivability constrains where introduce into the model using a new statistical approach which reduces the execution time, and allowed the optimization routine. The analysis results lead to the conclusion that for SRPA WEC the mooring loads have a significant impact on how the body reacts with the waves, affecting both the energy that enter the system as well as the energy that is extracted as power. This implies that, in some cases, the mooring lines need to be considered in early stages of the designs as opposed to an afterthought, as is typically done. Results indicate that an optimal mooring design can result in a 26% increase in total annual power production. In addition, the mooring lines impact on mitigating parasitic pitch and roll were analyzed. It was established that in regular waves, the mooring lines can reduce the parametric excitations and improve the power extraction up to 56% for a particular sea state. By applying a computationally efficient iterative design approach to a device's mooring, parasitic motions and suboptimal device operation can be reduced, ultimately making WECs a more competitive source of energy. ▼ The main inquiry for this research is to identify the reasons that contribute to customer switching intention decisions. In addressing this enquiry, two theories - the theory of migration and theory of planned behaviour - were identified as the theoretical framework underpinning the study. Two main objectives of the study were (i) to identify the push-pull and mooring factors and (ii) to measure the relationship between the push-pull and mooring factors towards switching intention. The investigation focused on the impact of with push-pull-mooring factors on switching intention. Early research into switching behaviour studies focused largely on variables that contribute to the switching intention decision, mainly due to the critical incidents encountered by customers that push them from their origin or pull them to another destination or mooring factors that might inhibit or mitigate their switching decision. In view of this, a combination of push-pull and mooring variables were used to measure the switching intention behaviour. A multiple method approach was used to study the issues in two different stages. In the first stage qualitative data collection was used to support and confirm the identification of factors from the literature. For the main quantitative methods, using a hypothetical deductive testing approach, this study (N=2018) used survey data collected via a self-administered, voluntary online survey, to develop switching intention behaviour model. The results indicated that situational factors, positive attachments, perceived switching benefits, positive attitudes towards switching and positive beliefs of others towards switching emerged as consistent push factor while availability of alternatives emerged as the pull factors. Interestingly poor pricing, poor service incidents, positive ability to switch and switching barriers were not supported in this study indicating that there is no relationship between poor pricing, poor service incidents, positive ability to switch and switching barriers towards switching intention.

A crescente utilização de plataformas flutuantes na atividade de exploração de petróleo vem exigindo desenvolvimento de estudos relacionados a novas técnicas de execução e metodologias de projetos de fundações em ambiente marinho. A presente pesquisa é continuação do trabalho desenvolvido por Rocha (2014) e tem como objetivo: estudar a atenuação de cargas dinâmicas no trecho da linha de ancoragem embutida no solo, através de experimentos em modelos reduzidos com solos argilosos. Os ensaios foram realizados em laboratório a partir de um sistema de carregamento dinâmico capaz de produzir vibração com faixas de aceleração e frequência desejadas. Para atingir os objetivos da pesquisa foram abordados os conceitos da carga dinâmica, reologia e tixotropia. Foram realizados ensaios em solos argilosos com teores de umidade em torno de 120%, obtidos a partir de misturas no laboratório de caulim (85% em massa seca), bentonita (15% em massa seca) e água, com a finalidade de obter um solo argiloso com propriedades geotécnicas similares às dos solos offshore prospectados pela Petrobras. Os ensaios de mini palheta e extração de umidade ao longo da profundidade permitiram concluir que os valores da resistência não drenada da argila crescem com profundidade, enquanto o teor de umidade decresce, sendo que a resistência ao cisalhamento não-drenada guarda similaridade em relação às condições de campo. Na realização dos ensaios de carregamentos estáticos e dinâmicos realizados com variação do ângulo de referência de 0º a 55º foram utilizadas duas células de cargas para medir as forças aplicadas no touch down point e no ponto de ancoragem. Os resultados obtidos nesses ensaios mostraram atenuação de carga devido à força de reação (atrito) gerada pelo solo na interface solo-corrente, quando a massa do solo envolvente é sujeita a grandes deformações. Observou-se que a magnitude de atenuação estática varia de 12,9 a 18,3% e depende da variação de profundidade de embutimento da estaca (comprimento da linha de ancoragem), do ângulo de referência, da resistência não drenada da argila e do nível de força de pré-tração aplicada, enquanto que no ensaio de carregamento dinâmico verificou-se que os valores de atenuação normalizada de cargas dinâmicas situam-se na faixa de 24 a 26% e são levemente influenciados pela variação da força de pré-tração e frequência de vibração devido à parcela viscosa da argila.

The increasing use of floating platforms for oil exploration activity has required development of studies related to new techniques and methodologies for foundation design in the marine environment. The main objective of this research is the development of an innovative system for sophisticated maintenance optimization over the design life for a moored array of floating breakwaters connected with hinges. It needs to be emphasized that the numerical model corresponding to the moored array of floating breakwaters connected with hinges is also innovative and its development consists one of the scopes of the present doctoral thesis. In more details, the aforesaid numerical model includes the coupled modeling of the hydrodynamic behavior of the floating array as well as the mooring system. This modeling has been achieved with the derivation of appropriate equations, which were next included in software. As far as the system proposed herein is concerned, it ensures that the structural integrity and also the risk of the moored array of hinged floating breakwaters, is always within the desirable ranges over its design life. The most important issue, that should be emphasized, is that ensuring the desirable risk can be achieved with the minimum number of possible maintenance interventions (replacements of mooring chains), and thus minimum maintenance cost. The effect of structural aging with time due to corrosion is considered, and thus, risk will be assumed as time-evolved. The risk assessment is achieved by considering both the loading level and the maintenance history of the floating array. The methodology for risk assessment provides the maintenance schedule with the potential of continuous updating based on real-time structural health monitoring data. The current widespread development and use of monitoring devices (sensors) of all kinds strongly encourages the application of such innovative techniques, which are regarded as a current research challenge. It needs to be emphasized that the development and operation of the proposed system does not necessarily require the existence of monitoring data. In more detail, the potential of continuous updating of the risk prediction consists just an extra tool for the cases where monitoring data are available, providing a relevant prediction of higher quality.

Ο κύριος στόχος της παρούσας διατριβής είναι η ανάπτυξη καινοτόμου συστήματος καθορισμού του βέλτιστου σχήματος συντήρησης, καθ’ όλη τη σχεδιασμένη διάρκεια λειτουργίας (χρόνος σχεδιασμού - design life), για την περίπτωση αγκυρωμένης συστοιχίας αρθρωτά συνδεδεμένων πλωτών κυματοθραυστών. Στο σημείο αυτό, κρίνεται σκόπιμο να τονιστεί ότι το αριθμητικό μοντέλο αγκυρωμένης συστοιχίας αρθρωτά συνδεδεμένων πλωτών κυματοθραυστών είναι πρωτότυπο και αναπτύχθηκε στα πλαίσια της παρούσας διατριβής. ▼ Previous work on modal analysis of mooring lines has been performed from different theoretical formulations. Most studies have focused on mooring lines of a single homogeneous material, and the effect of added mass and damping produced by the water has not been examined deeply. The variational formulation approach, employed in this research to perform a modal analysis, has been useful to study the behavior of several realistic mooring lines. The cases presented are composed from segments of materials with different mechanical characteristics, more similar to those in current offshore projects. In the newly proposed formulation, damping produced by transverse motion of the mooring line through the surrounding water has been added to the modal analysis. The modal analysis formulation applied in this work has been verified with calculations from commercial software and the results are sufficiently accurate to understand the global behavior of the dynamics of mooring lines with the damping produced by the sea water. Inclusion of linearized drag damping in the modal analysis showed that the modal periods of the mooring systems studied depend on the amplitude of the transverse motion of the mooring line. When more amplitude in the motion is expected more damping is obtained. Two realistic designs of mooring lines were compared: one made up with a main insert of steel rope, called “Steel System”, and one composed by a main insert of polyester, named “Polyester System”. Comparing the natural periods of both systems, the Steel System appears to be safer because its fundamental natural period is more distant from the wave excitation periods produced by storms. The same happens considering the wave excitation periods produced by prevailing seas. In this case the natural periods of the Polyester System are nearer to the wave excitation periods causing fatigue loads. The transverse mode shapes for lateral motions of the mooring lines are observed to be continuous and smooth across material transitions, such as transitions between chain and wire rope and transitions between chain and polyester rope. This behavior is not always observed in the tangential mode shapes for the Polyester System where significant differences in dynamic tension seem to be present in the specific cases studied. ▼ The nonlinear response of an ocean system subjected to random excitations can exhibit very complex dynamic behaviors including jump phenomena and coexistence of attractors. In this study, the stochastic system response behavior of a simple (Duffing) oscillator under narrow-band random excitations is first examined in the subharmonic resonance region. A semi-analytical procedure based on the nonlinear response characteristics of the corresponding deterministic system is developed to derive the response transition probabilities within individual attraction domains and among finite attraction domains under the assumptions of stationarity and Markov process. Overall response amplitude probability distributions are obtained by applying the Bayes formula to the two different types of response transition probability distributions. To validate the prediction capability of the semi-analytical method, numerical simulation of the responses of the Duffing system are generated and statistical characteristics of the response behavior are compared with prediction results. It is shown that the semi-analytical procedure provides more accurate predictions than other approximate methods available in the literature. A parametric study on the effects of variations in excitation intensity and degree of narrow-bandedness is conducted. Results confirmed that the nonlinear response characteristics including jump phenomenon and co-existence of attraction domains are preserved under narrow-band random excitations. The semi-analytical prediction method developed above is then applied to analyze the stochastic response behavior of a nonlinear mooring system subjected to random ocean waves. For modeling of the structural system, a nonlinear structure, nonlinearly-damped (NSND) model is employed and a reverse multiple input/single-output technique is applied to identify the system coefficients. To verify the accuracy and capability of the semi-analytical method in predicting the complex behaviors of the nonlinear mooring system, analytical predictions are compared with experimental results and numerical simulations. System response amplitude probability distributions predicted by the semi-analytical procedure are shown to be in good agreement with experimental and simulation results. ▼ This study proposes new methods for the reliability-based design of structural systems, with emphasis on offshore mooring systems. After a brief introduction to the mooring systems, two main objectives are discussed in this dissertation. The first objective is the calculation of the probability of failure of a structural system, which is an important input for a reliability-based design or any quantitative risk assessment. Two different methods are proposed for calculation of the probability of failure: a method based on the Monte Carlo simulations and a method based on the basic rules of probability, which is called the Progressive Reliability Method (PRM). Both methods are flexible to the definition of system failure. For example, the probability of a serviceability or ultimate-strength failure can be assessed using any of the two methods. It is shown that the two methods produce similar results, but PRM is preferred because it is exact and usually faster to implement. The second main objective in this dissertation is to develop a method for the optimization of the design of a structural system, given a target probability of failure. In this method, using the structural analysis of a preliminary design, the ratio of the optimal to the preliminary mean capacity of each component, which is called the Optimality Factor, is determined. Two design strategies are considered. First, an optimal design is intended to achieve the maximum system integrity. System integrity is defined as the balanced contribution of system components to its reliability. To quantify the system integrity, the Integrity Index is defined, and its calculation for various systems is discussed. Second, a designated failure scenario is considered, where some components serve as a fuse to protect some other components. This design strategy is especially applicable to mooring systems with drag anchor foundations because normally, if a drag anchor is pulled out from the seabed, it can cause significant damages to nearby subsea facilities. Using the rules of probability, a method is then developed to calculate the optimality factor of each component. ▼ Private Mooring is one of mooring facilities available in the waters of Hong Kong. The characteristic of private moorings is it's allowing the owners to have an exclusive use of a particular approved water spaces. The Marine Department is responsible for the management of private moorings. In 2012, the Audit Commission of the Hong Kong SAR Government issued its report No.59, which criticized the management of private moorings by the Marine Department. The report stated about the risk of subletting private moorings and advised the Marine Department should review the guidelines and administrative measure to regulate the situation. Since then, there were many media reported the development and problems of shortage of private mooring. The public concerns on the development of private moorings becomes a hot topic. Therefore, this study aims to examine the development & challenges of private moorings in Hong Kong. An individual interviews were conducted with the regulator, a marina club and a focus group. While a questionnaire was developed to gather quantitative data. Besides onsite observations were made to investigate the updated situation. Through various research methods were made, The updated situation of the development of private moorings has been found. The demand of private moorings is large and the waiting time of allocation of a private mooring is long. The reasons are sophisticated. The result of interviews and individual questionnaire showed there is a need to review the policy of private moorings. This dissertation recommended remedial measures through management, operation and planning. Because of limited resources, this study mainly investigates the popularly designated mooring spaces which are assigned to Class IV pleasure type vessel. It couldn’t reflect the whole picture of mooring areas or mooring areas used by other Class of vessels. Nevertheless, this dissertation could help clarify the situation and stimulate further research to investigate the way of implementation of revised private mooring policy

O presente trabalho vem propor um estudo numérico qualitativo de um modelo hidro-elástico para simulação das vibrações induzidas por vórtices (VIV) em cabos submersos. O modelo é composto de um sistema acoplado de equações que descrevem tanto a estrutura quanto o fluido. A estrutura é modelada através de um oscilador elástico clássico e discretizada através de um método de massas concentradas. O fluido é considerado através de osciladores discretos baseados em modelos fenomenológicos com equação de Van der Pol ou Ginzburg-Landau. O acoplamento entre os dois ocorre na direção transversal ao escoamento local através da força de sustentação. O estudo foi feito para verificar quais tipos de comportamentos de resposta podem ser obtidos através do uso dos modelos fenomenológicos e, também, avaliar o potencial de tais modelos no ciclo de projeto na indústria atual, com foco na indústria petrolífera. Esta adequabilidade ao uso em projeto leva em conta, em primeiro lugar, a qualidade das respostas, mas também leva em conta a viabilidade da execução de simulações numéricas em tempo apropriado. Assim, um modelo numérico foi desenvolvido para permitir a integração, no domínio do tempo, deste sistema hidro- elástico. Esta integração é feita através de um método explícito de Euler e permite tratar não-linearidades dos osciladores elástico e fluido. Um conjunto de situações foi simulado numericamente, incluindo configurações verticais e também configurações em catenária. As simulações indicam alto grau de acoplamento entre os osciladores, o que leva a ressonância entre ambos na maior parte dos casos. Com relação ao comportamento do oscilador estrutural em si, foi possível observar fenômenos interessantes tais como lock-in e travelling waves, além do terceiro harmônico da vibração transversal detectado em alguns experimentos reportados em literatura. Com relação à adequabilidade do uso do modelo em projeto, considera-se que isto seja possível dada a relativa rapidez das simulações e aos resultados promissores que ainda podem ser melhorados.

The present work proposes a qualitative numerical study of a hydro-elastic model in order to simulate vortex-induced vibrations in submerged cables. The model is composed of a coupled system of equations describing the structure and the fluid. The structure is modeled through a classical elastic oscillator and discretized using a lumped mass approach. The fluid is modeled through discrete oscillators based on phenomenological models using Van der Pol or Ginzburg- Landau type equations. The coupling between these two oscillators is carried by the lift force. The study was carried in order to verify which response behavior can be obtained by using such phenomenological models and also, to evaluate their potential to be used in the offshore industry. ▼ Access to adequate liquidity to finance future investments is an essential element of financial management. The two main questions that this dissertation attempts to answer are (i) what is the net valuation effect of LoC? and (ii) if LoC create value, what are the sources of this value? To answer these questions, I constructed a sample of 85,232 firm-years spanning from 1993 to 2016, with credit line data obtained from Capital IQ and Bloomberg. I investigated the valuation effects of LoC with a methodology extensively used in the analysis of the valuation implications of cash. I used this methodology because cash and LoC are two alternatives to manage liquidity and estimated the changes in shareholders' value associated with changes in existing LoC undrawn balances and on new LoC agreements. The results from this analysis demonstrates a positive association between increases in LoC capacity and shareholder's value. These findings are also obtained in univariate and event study analyses. The results also suggest that LoC create more value for firms that are rich in cash, indicating the LoC and cash are complementary liquidity management tools. I then focused on the sources of the value created by credit lines. I examined whether information asymmetry plays a role in LoC valuation by analyzing the association between firm value and LoC for firms with high- and low-information asymmetric. I also studied whether LoCs reduce agency problems by comparing firm value and LoC capacity in both poorly and well-governed firms. Furthermore, I examined whether firms benefit from an increase in financial flexibility provided by access to credit lines. I found results consistent with LoC being more valuable for firms with higher levels of informational asymmetries. The analysis also suggests that LoCs with longer maturity create more value than those with shorter maturity. Surprisingly, I find limited support for the hypothesis that shareholders place a higher value on LoCs in increasing financial flexibility. In the experience of contemporary cities, urban residents distinguish some locations as labyrinthine and mazelike, familiar and disorienting, mysterious and adventurous. This research focuses on reproduction of such an experiment by mapping the infrastructural lines which connect Essen and Gelsenkirchen in Ruhrgebiet. Therefore more than just a ribbon, the connection line supposes to be a place for a multi-dimensional spatial experiment which creates a complex labyrinth as a new spatial state in the bordering conditions of the city. ‘Reading between the Lines’ is a thematic exploration of architecture which naturally deals concurrently with symbolic and practical aspect. In this approach, the building is not only a shelter to secure or an enclosure of functions, but is a place of connotation, substance, resource and typology. Moreover, referring to architecture as an interdisciplinary act, this project is working with several media such as photography, drawings, models and rendering. The architectural theory, to create the real space, is constantly explored in painting, sculpture, film, poetry, etc. Accordingly, in this project, the traditional sequence ‘program plus site equals form’ is intentionally inverted. So in every single step of the process the outcome of the previous step is interpreted by various methods. At the first step, some superimposed drawings, so called the final mappings, are produced which illustrate the labyrinthine spatial quality of the spaces of the lines such as ‘wandering and errors, passes and impasses, luminous breakaways and tragic seclusion’. As the second phase is a model scale based on interpretation from one final superimposed drawing result in a composition of volumes, surfaces and elements. As the final step, to develop real architectural spaces, a large number of possible orders of the fragments could be represented. Since the project is site less, thus no geographic limitation is considered. Therefore, there are infinite possible orders of the fragments without any spatial coherence. So, all the fragments become autonomous entities. In addition, focusing on specific themes and developing each fragment based on, leads spaces to be varied in scale, materiality and atmospheric experience. To distinct the heterogeneous spaces, each earn a particular name: Space of Wandering, The Wall (Space of Passage), The Tower (Space of Seclusion), etc. Various techniques of representation have been applied to narrate characteristics of these spaces vividly. Furthermore, within a series of fragments, that eventually generates its own context, understanding of scale is left to imagination of the reader, from one item to another, from mega structure to a cabin size room for one.

▼ Uma linha de produtos de software (LPS) é definida como um conjunto de sistemas de software que compartilham características em comum, mas que são suficientemente distintos entre si, desenvolvidos a partir de um conjunto de artefatos reusáveis. Modelos de features e configuração são usados para possibilitar a geração automática de produtos a partir destes artefatos. Um modelo de features representa o conjunto de possíveis configurações de produto de uma LPS, enquanto o modelo de configuração estabelece o mapeamento entre features e implementação. Por exemplo, associando expressões de features, na forma de proposições lógicas, a artefatos. Os benefícios de produtividade que a abordagem de LPS fornece tornam possível que uma LPS seja capaz de gerar milhares de produtos. Neste contexto, erros cometidos ao especificar o modelo de configuração podem resultar em produtos inválidos - o problema da composição segura. Este problema pode ser difícil de ser detectado manualmente, já que os modelos de features e configuração podem tornar-se muito complexos. Gerar todos os produtos de uma LPS pode não ser prático, dado que existem LPS em que é possível gerar milhares de produtos. No entanto, mesmo modelos de configuração que não permitem a geração de produtos inválidos podem ter problemas na sua estrutura interna, como complexidade e duplicação, especialmente no contexto de LPS grandes, onde sua manutenção pode se tornar difícil. Precisamos nos certificar de que não introduzimos erros ao corrigir estes problemas. Neste trabalho, é proposta uma abordagem automática de verificação de composição segura para LPS baseadas em modelos de configuração. Esta abordagem é baseada na tradução de instâncias específicas de modelos de features e configuração em lógica proposicional, usando uma teoria codificada com Alloy. O suporte ferramental fornecido pelo Alloy Analyzer auxilia a verificação. Também é proposto um catálogo de refatoramentos simples para modelos de configuração, como uma maneira de evitar erros ao corrigir problemas na estrutura interna de tais modelos. Este catálogo é formalizado usando uma teoria geral para modelos de configuração especificada com o Prototype Verification System (PVS). Nós avaliamos a abordagem de verificação usando sete versões de uma LPS, com modelos de features que possibilitam a geração de até 272 produtos. Os resultados demonstram a vantagem de usar esta abordagem ao invés de gerar todos os produtos da LPS, já que o tempo médio para compilar um único produto da LPS é maior que o tempo para analisá-la na maior das versões analisadas. Também avaliamos o catálogo de refatoramento provando consistência (soundness) dos refatoramentos propostos no provador de teoremas de PVS Advisors/Committee Members: Henrique Monteiro Borba, Paulo (advisor).

The purpose of this thesis is the development of an integrated system for the identification and optimization of the performance of Moored Floating Breakwaters (MFB). This optimization is achieved, during their operation, through the modification of the total upstretched length of the mooring lines and by taking as inputs the accelerations of the MFB and the current wave frequency. The feasibility of developing the system is demonstrated numerically through the modelling of the performance of the MFB, which is based on the numerical models. The first model is related to 3D hydrodynamic analysis of the floating body, while the second one includes the static-dynamic analysis of the mooring lines. The stiffness and the drag damping of the mooring lines are calculated according to equations that are derived in this thesis. The results demonstrate that the modification of the length of the mooring lines with a simultaneous modification of the draft of the floating body results to the change of the characteristics of the mooring lines (stiffness-drag damping) and, therefore, it results to the modification of the hydrodynamic behaviour and the effectiveness of the MFB. The proposed system consists of two components fully connected to each other. The first component is related to the identification of the current status of the MFB and is implement numerically through the application of Artificial Neural Networks. The physical problem regarding the status identification of the MFB is expressed as a pattern classification problem. The second component includes the calculation of the new optimum status of the MFB and is implement numerically through the development of an optimization algorithm. The application of the proposed system enables the formation of design curves for the optimization of the hydrodynamic behaviour and the effectiveness of the MFB.

Στόχος της διατριβής είναι η ανάπτυξη ενός ολοκληρωμένου συστήματος αναγνώρισης και βέλτιστης ρύθμισης της συμπεριφοράς και της αποτελεσματικότητας των Αγκυρωμένων Πλωτών Κυματοθραυστών (ΑΠΚ). Η βελτιστοποίηση αυτή επιτυγχάνεται κατά τη διάρκεια της λειτουργίας τους μέσω μεταβολής του ολικού διατεταμένου μήκους των καλωδιώσεων αγκύρωσης και λαμβάνοντας ως δεδομένα τις επιταχύνσεις του ΑΠΚ και την τρέχουσα κυματική συχνότητα. Η δυνατότητα ανάπτυξης του συστήματος καταδεικνύεται αριθμητικά μέσω μοντελοποίησης της συμπεριφοράς του ΑΠΚ, η οποία στηρίζεται στη συζευγμένη εφαρμογή (ανάπτυξη επαναληπτικής διαδικασίας σύζευξης) δύο αριθμητικών μοντέλων. Το πρώτο μοντέλο σχετίζεται με την 3D υδροδυναμική ανάλυση του πλωτού σώματος, ενώ το δεύτερο με τη στατική-δυναμική ανάλυση των καλωδιώσεων. Η δυσκαμψία και η συρτική απόσβεση των καλωδιώσεων υπολογίζονται κατόπιν εξαγωγής εξισώσεων. ▼ Two main topics of offshore technologies, hydroelasticity and dynamic positioning system, are investigated in the present research. For the larger dimension of offshore structures in harsher operating environments, comprehensive hydroelastic analysis is developed. The interactions of a moored deformable floating body and waves are solved by the modal expansion method, and the dynamics of the deformable floating body is fully coupled with the nonlinear mooring-riser dynamics. Not only the hydroelastic dynamic motion responses but also the corresponding dynamic stress resultants are achieved for regular waves and random seas. A new methodology is developed for the direct time domain hydroelastic structural analysis for the random seas without infeasible computational fluid dynamics. As case studies, both of a slender structure and a large volume 3D structure are considered. The slender body case adopts the well-known beam theory to represent the deformations and 3D structure case employs the finite element method for modal analysis. Moreover, the twisting effects of the 3D structure and corresponding 3D hydroelastic effects are investigated. The developed numerical tools are robustly verified by cross-correlation between frequency and time domains. Each case study includes the resonance phenomenon of the floating body deformation, and its influences on the dynamic motions and stress resultants are studied. The enhanced resonances due to the nonlinear wave loads are investigated by adding the 2nd order wave loads to the time domain hydroelastic dynamic analyses. Taking advantages of time-domain hydroelastic analysis, a numerical hammer test is conceived and the real wet natural frequencies are identified. For the purpose of float-over-based offshore installment, a high accuracy dynamic positioning system is developed. The optimum control system is designed using a combination of Kalman filter and PD control with the separation theorem. Subsequently, the generalized allocation scheme is employed for faster and more accurate reactions. As an example, an appreciably small watch circle is achieved and the corresponding resultants are clarified in terms of individual thrusts and azimuth angles. ▼ Objective : To determine the factors associated with unsafe sexual behaviour among the youth aged 13 to 19 years, in the prevention of HIV/AIDS in Lusaka Urban. Study Design: A cross section and comparative study design was carried out in 22 basic schools in Lusaka Urban among the youth attending grades 7,8 and 9. Setting: The study was carried out in Lusaka Urban, which has the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rate of 22% in Zambia. Lusaka is the capital city of Zambia and has a population of 1, 084,703 with the youth below 19 years of more than 50%of the population The city of Lusaka is a trading centre for goods from the East and Southern African which is part of the sub-Sahara region that has the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence in the world. Subjects: The study focused on the youth who are the future leaders and yet affected by the great HIV/AIDS epidemic. A total sample size of 319 youth (160 males and 159 females) aged 13 to 19 years in Grades 7,8and 9 selected from a line list of 25093 youth by using EPI 6 statistical calculator the study sample was selected. The subject from different schools were proportionately and conveniently selected and involved in the study. Main outcome measures: In this study unsafe sexual behaviour was used as the main outcome. The youth that were sexually active at the time of conducting the research were assumed to be involved in unsafe sexual behaviour as well as the group of youth that did not use condoms during the last sexual intercourse. Results: Social demographic factors- More males than females require assistance on safer sex methods and that more males than females were involved in premarital sex (P=<0.001), the youth aged 15 years and above were significantly more involved in premarital sex than the youth below the age of 14 years (P=<0.001) Education- There was a significant increase on premarital sex as the youth progressed from 7 to grade 9(P=<0.001). Religion- The youths belonging to Catholic church were significantly more involved in premarital sex as compared to the youth from other churches (P=0.058). Residence-The youth residing in Lusaka central Kanyama and Munali constituencies were more involved in premarital sex than the youth from other constituencies of Lusaka urban (P=<0.001).Types of guardian-The youths kept by mothers only were found to be significantly more involved in premarital sex than the youth kept by both parents (P=<0.001). From the focus group discussion it was found that most parents did not discuss HIV/AIDS and safer sex with their children. Financial support- The youth that received adequate financial support were significantly more involved in premarital sex than the youth that did not receive enough financial support (P=0.05). Knowledge factors: Perceived risk- The youth who were at higher risk of contracting HIV AIDS were found to be more involved in premarital sex than the youth who did not know that they were at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS (P=0.005).
