1. Hodges, Leslie E. Contextual Cues To Word Learning: Mapping Meaning To Form At Two Developmental Milestones.

Degree: MA, Psychology, 2015, Georgia State University

In two studies, we examined what constitutes a supportive context for word learning. In Study 1, we examined children’s comprehension of iconic gestures by asking 2, 3, and 4 year-old children, as well as adult controls, to choose the referent of an iconic gesture. The gesture either highlighted a possible action with the object, or a salient physical attribute of the object. By age 2, children performed above chance for iconics of action, but not for iconics of attribute; indicating that early use of iconic gesture to support word learning should utilize iconics of action. In Study 2, we examined how different levels of contextual support affect word learning from written contexts. Participants read very rare English words in contexts that were either: high (H), medium (M), or low (L) constraint. Participants had the greatest accuracy on a synonym judgment task when words were trained in a scaffolded sequence (H-M-M-L). Advisors/Committee Members: Gwen Frishkoff, Şeyda Özçalışkan.

2. Zabukovšek, Dorijan. PRAVNI IN ETIČNI VIDIKI NUJNE MEDICINSKE POMOČI.

Degree: 2013, Univerza v Mariboru

Rezultati raziskave. Zdravstveni delavci (reševalci) niso dovolj osveščeni (46 %) o pravnih in etičnih dilemah nujne medicinske pomoči in so le delno (62 %) seznanjeni s kazenskopravno zakonodajo s področja nujne medicinske pomoči.

Theoretical basis. In the Master’s thesis we presented all legal and ethical bases for the implementation of medical emergency assistance services. We also presented the most common legal and ethical questions, faced by health practitioners (rescuers) at their work, and the opinion of medical emergency assistance providers on individual ethical dilemmas. Research methodology. We used qualitative research methodology, namely a partially structured questionnaire, consisting of 20 questions. The research included 80 employees (doctors, graduated nurses, health technicians) from three rescue stations with medical emergency assistance. The results are processed with the help of computer programs Microsoft Office Word 2010, Microsoft Office Excel 2010 and IBM SPSS Statistics 20. Results. Health practitioners (rescuers) are not sufficiently aware (46 %) of legal and ethical dilemmas of medical emergency assistance and are only partially (62 %) familiar with criminal law in the field of emergency medical assistance. Health practitioners (rescuers) do not often ask themselves, if they have carried out a particular intervention in a patient…
