In the globalized world of today the ability to speak more than one language, known asbilingualism, has become more common now than ever. There is research indicating thatlanguage processing accounts for the well debated „bilingual advantage‟ in inhibitory control.The process of speech production is supposed to make retrieved words more accessible forfuture retrieval through a consolidation process. When there is an association between thewords there will be a competition in retrieval during speech production; a competition that issolved by inhibitory control. The hypothesis tested in this study was that more hours ofspeaking second language (L2) could be associated with better performance on threeinhibition tests; the Flanker task, the Stroop task and the Simon task, when controlling for ageand fluid intelligence. The study contained 241 participants between 50-75 years old. Theresults were not in line with the hypothesis, except for one result that was significant in theopposite direction of the hypothesis; indicating that hours of speaking L2 was associated withworse performance on the Stroop test Alternative considerations concerning the results arepresented in the discussion. I dagens globaliserade värld har förmågan att tala fler än ett språk, även känt somtvåspråkighet, blivit mer vanligt än någonsin. Det finns forskning som tyder på att det finnsskillnader under språkbearbetningen som bidrar till den omdebatterade ‟tvåspråkigas fördel‟på inhibitorisk kontroll. Ord som återkallas under talproduktionen anta genomgå enkonsolideringsprocess som gör att orden blir mer tillgängliga för framtida framplockning. Närdet finns en association mellan ord uppstår en tävlan mellan de båda under talproduktionen;en tävlan som löses av en inhibitorisk kontroll. Hypotesen som testats i den härundersökningen var att större antal timmar av talat andraspråk (L2) skulle associeras medbättre prestation på tre olika inhibitionstest; Flanker task, Stroop task och Simon task, närålder och flytande intelligens kontrollerades för. ▼ Kritiska mixed race-studier är ett forskningsområde som internationellt växer sig allt större, men i en svensk kontext saknas forskning på personer som klassificeras som mixed race. I denna studie har tretton personer intervjuats med syfte att se hur de talade om sitt identitetsskapande i förhållande till sin blandade identitet samt om omgivningens bemötande. För att analysera materialet användes Foucauldiansk diskursanalys som metod. Resultatet visar att deltagarna på varierande sätt konceptualiserar vad den blandade identiteten innebär och om eller hur den har betydelse för dem. De diskurser som var tillgängliga för deltagarna när de talade om sin blandade identitet, var diskurser kring kultur, etnicitet, nationalitet, ras och svenskhet. Den blandade identiteten konceptualiserades som något en får genom tillgång till flera kulturer eller genom blodsband samt som kroppsliga markörer. Hur deltagarna förhållit sig till den beskrivs ha varierat under deras liv liksom i olika kontexter. Deltagarna förhåller sig till att benämnas halv: vissa använder själva detta som beskrivande benämning medan andra tar avstånd från den och beskriver sig som hela, dubbla och trippel. Deltagarna beskriver hur deras svenskhet ifrågasätts och hur de på olika sätt förhandlar om sin tillgång till den. Det framställs hur de ofta ställs inför frågan ”var kommer du ifrån, egentligen?”. Vissa framställer praktiker som lättare ska låta dem klassas som svensk/vit, alternativt gör motstånd mot att klassas som detta. Ytterligare framförs hur deras utseende låter dem uppfattas som tillhörande gruppen invandrare, och att detta ibland kan ge fördelar. Slutligen beskrivs även rasifierande praktiker som sker i en skärningspunkt mellan ras och kön. Deltagare som identifierar sig som kvinnor beskriver hur de översexualiseras och hur deras utseende exotifieras medan de som kategoriseras som män talar om hur de misstänkliggörs. I vårt resultat blir det tydligt att ras som en socialt konstruerad kategori påverkar individers erfarenheter och villkor i dagens Sverige.

Introduction: There is a tension between secular and religious values.Psychotherapy has a secular foundation, while at the same time priests and pastorshave the opportunity to become psychotherapists. The aim of this paper is toexamine how psychotherapists with Christian religious beliefs view thesignificance of their faith in their psychotherapeutic profession. Question: How do psychotherapists with Christian religious beliefs feel that their faith impacts their clinical practice. Method: Five semi-structured interviews was held with licensed psychotherapistsordained in Christian ministry. The interviews were coded using a thematic,inductive analysis. Results: Four themes were found: (1) Pastors and priest as psychotherapists; (2) Religious or psychotherapeutic approach; (3) Relationship between psychologyand spirituality; (4) Trust in god as support in the therapy process. Discussion: The results from the thematic analysis are discussed using Attachment theory and the non-repressed unconscious, leading to aninterpretation in terms of trust, difficulties in the transference and god related todescriptions of reality.

Inledning: Ett spänningsfält finns mellan sekulära och religiösa värden. Psykoterapi bygger på sekulär grund samtidigt som präster och pastorer harmöjlighet att bli psykoterapeuter. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hurkristet troende psykoterapeuter ser på trons betydelse i sitt kliniska arbete. Frågeställning: Hur upplever kristet troende psykoterapeuter att deras tropåverkar deras kliniska arbete? Metod: Arbetet vilar på fem semistrukturerade intervjuer med legitimerade psykoterapeuter som i sin grundutbildning är präster eller pastorer. Intervjuerna undersöks med tematisk induktiv analys. Resultat: Fyra teman utkristalliserades: (1) Prästen och pastorn sompsykoterapeut; (2) Religiöst eller psykoterapeutiskt förhållningssätt; (3) Förhållandet mellan psykologi och andlighet och (4) Tilliten till gud som stöd iterapiprocessen. Diskussion: Resultatet lyfts till en teoretisk nivå genom att relateras till anknytningsteoretisk forskning samt till det icke bortträngda omedvetna. Genom detta diskuteras resultatet utifrån tillit, svårigheter med överföring i psykoterapimed vigd psykoterapeut och gud relaterat till beskrivningar av den yttersta verkligheten.

▼ Background: People with autism may experience higher rates of mental health difficulty, yet access to appropriate mental health support and services has been recognised as challenging. Aims: This study aimed to explore whether components of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) could explain variance in IAPT clinicians’ intention to carry out interventions for mental health difficulties in people with High functioning autism (HFA) or Asperger’s syndrome (AS). It also explored the effect on intention of past experience of carrying out these interventions. Method: There were two stages to the study. The first stage involved a qualitative elicitation study, which investigated attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control factors in carrying out the interventions. The second stage was a questionnaire-based study. The questionnaire was created following content analysis of the qualitative data, and was completed by clinicians currently working in Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) services (n=88). The data were then analysed using multiple regression. Results: The theory of planned behavioural model predicted 56.5% of the variance in intention to carry out interventions for mental health difficulties for people with (Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASCs)). The most significant components in predicting intention were indirect attitude measures, direct measures of perceived behavioural control, and indirect subjective normative referents. Past experience of carrying out these interventions was significantly associated with intention when the individual had no experience of working with people with ASCs previously. Conclusion: Further explorations of unaccounted variables impacting on intention to carry out interventions for mental health difficulties with people with ASCs could be valuable. Clinical implications include additional training for therapists in ASCs and development of adapted materials if part of the intervention. Future research could focus on therapy efficacy other than for cognitive behavioural therapy and in-depth accounts from therapists and service users with ASCs as to their therapeutic experiences.

▼ The purpose of this study was to discover how relaxation in general works, and how components of Autogenic Training (AT) (Luthe and Schultz, 2001), a relaxation therapy, may be working together and separately in an anxiolytic process. A corollary purpose was to develop recommendations for clinical practice. Data consisted of personally and historically collected interviews (n=46) and diaries (n=34). Participants with less than moderate anxiety volunteered from the community at large; and, participants with moderate to severe anxiety were drawn from the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine’s AT Department and British Autogenic Society therapist’s client lists. A classical Glaserian grounded theory analysis methodology was used to determine participants’ main concern (self-balancing) and the way they continually resolved this concern (sanctuarying). The theory of relaxation as a self-balancing sanctuarying process emerged from analysis of what 21 people from the community at large say they do to relax in everyday life. The activities they choose for sanctuarying are self-emergent, and their continuing use is contingent upon managing hindrances and integrating feedback to the process so that the benefits of doing the activity are maximized. Three switching strategies, distracting and blocking, managing and controlling, and letting go and allowing, are central. Benefits which are not consciously or analytically generated are: restoring, refreshing and re-energizing me; maintaining and building me; and growing and developing me. Maintaining and building me are characterized by integrating and strengthening the core self and connecting to the community; growing and developing me is characterized by expanding self-discovery. The theory of self-balancing sanctuarying was used on an emergent fit basis to analyse 25 interviews and 34 diaries gathered from people with symptoms of moderate to severe anxiety whilst learning to practice Autogenic Training. This analysis broadened and deepened the grounded theory. This thesis contributes to knowledge in many areas. It is the first classical grounded theory of relaxation and of Autogenic Training, theoretically situating and/or challenging extant descriptive and conceptual models of both relaxation and AT. It supports the clinically functional equivalence of certain forms of relaxation and supports Teasdale and Barnard’s (1995) Interacting Cognitive Subsystems Model. It supports and challenges certain aspects of core affect theory, of the cognitive appraisal theory of emotions, and of Fredrickson’s (2001, 2003) broaden and build theory of positive emotions. It adds a grounded perspective to the spiritual well-being debate, bringing new knowledge to it. It adds new data to the field of the phenomenology of hypnagogic images. It discusses the implication of Self-balancing Sanctuarying for training of AT therapists and for their clinical practice with anxious clients.

▼ Section A: Preferred music interventions' effect on psychological and behavioural outcomes for people with dementia: a systematic review. A previous review concluded that preferred music is an effective intervention for managing agitation in people with dementia; however, the majority of the research articles included were pilot studies. A systematic review is carried out in this work to investigate the effect of preferred music on people with dementia. Six search engines yielded 240 papers, of which 12 were eligible. The report reviewed studies that investigated outcomes including agitation, anxiety, depression and overall emotional state. Inconsistent results are found across studies of most outcomes. Methodological issues mean that some studies are prone to bias. Consequently, it is difficult to draw conclusions from the review. The results suggest the need for further investigation into this area of research. Section B: Development of the video analysis scale of engagement (vase) tool for people with advanced dementia. The current study sought to develop a valid, reliable and unobtrusive tablet computer-based observational tool to appraise a continuous scale of engagement with people with advanced dementia. VASE was designed to enable the rating of moment-by-moment changes in engagement during an intervention, which would be useful for process evaluation in research. An initial version of the Video Analysis Scale of Engagement (VASE) was tested. Face validity and content validity were conducted to validate an operational definition of engagement and develop an acceptable protocol for the tool. Thirty-seven non-professional and professional volunteers were recruited to view and rate people with dementia's level of engagement in the music activities using the VASE. An inter-class coefficient (ICC) test gave a high level of rating agreement across professionals and non-professionals. However, the ICC results of within-professionals were mixed. Mixed-linear modelling suggested there that the types of interventions (active or passive music listening), the particular intervention session being rated, five second "stages" of each video and the age of those doing the rating could affect the ratings. Results suggested that raters used the VASE in a dynamic fashion, and that the tool was able to distinguish between interventions. Further investigation and adjustments are warranted for this to be considered a valid and reliable tool in the measurement of engagement of people with advanced dementia in a group activity setting.
