▼ People often have difficulties in making decisions when a judgment of multiple criteria simultaneously is a part of the decision-making. Fortunately, the method like
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP) has been developed to assist the multi-criteria decision making. Yet,
AHP has not been introduced to the field Kinesiology. The purpose of this study, using a study of selecting quality athletic shoes for walking, was to introduce
AHP to Kinesiology. People often have a difficulty in selecting quality walking shoes because of many alternatives and multiple criteria that can cause conflicts in evaluating alternatives. Forty participants (20 males and 20 female; Age: M = 28.72 and SD = 10.87) were recruited from a Midwestern shoe store for the study and they were classified two age groups (19-24 yrs. and over 25 yrs.). A two-stage decision strategy was employed for the study. In the first stage, the number of alternatives was lowered to a manageable level and the participants were asked to make a selection decision from a consideration set of shoes formed for the study. In the second stage, the participants were asked to make a selection decision with the assistance of
AHP. The
AHP method was compared to self-explication method—natural way of making choices without interventions. The decision effectiveness in the consideration set, the
AHP method, as well as the relationship between the consideration set and the
AHP method, were investigated. It was found that, when forming a consideration set and putting on shoes and walking around the store for a while, technical feature and brand was significant shoe attributes to affect the participants’ decision on shoe selection. In making further preferred choices from the consideration set after a shoe test, however, quality, the shoe attribute added after the shoe-test, and technical feature played significant roles in affecting the decision. No significant difference in the quality of a consideration set, which was evaluated by the number of quality shoes within a consideration set, was detected between two age and gender groups; but there a significant interaction effect between age and gender.
AHP was a useful tool to help consumers to make a good decision—selecting quality athletic shoes for walking according to perceived preference—according three evaluation outcomes: the consistency of preference, the effectiveness of
AHP, and the satisfaction to
AHP. The relationship of the number of quality shoes within a consideration set was significant with the consistency, but with the effectiveness and satisfaction of
AHP.

▼ Toady, the rapid changes in business environment of shortened product life cycles and advanced technology, drew the attention upon research and developmentâs (R&D) contribution to competitive advantage. As a result, valuing the performance of R&D has become exceedingly important. This study established a general framework of R&D performance measurements by reviewing and organizing literatures and researches on R&D performance, along with giving an insight on what are the most valued measurements with applying the
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP) method.
The questionnaire which developed from
AHP was filled by senior managers of R&D. Valuing from industry and R&D function perspective, we had the results of four similar core R&D performance measurements of Customer Satisfaction, Technology commercialized, Market Share, and Technical achievement. However, the individual ranking from these perspectives, are quite different. In the sense of high-technology and traditional industry, having the same top five measurements of Customer Satisfaction, Market Share, Technical achievement, Technology commercialized, and Profitability, the ranking for each industry is differ. As for new product development (NPD) and
process improving function, having the same four out of five core R&D performance measurements of Customer Satisfaction, Market Share, Access to New Market, and Technology commercialized, the ranking for each function is differ.
The results for priorities and weights of each R&D performance measurements, are not only giving an insight on the most preferred measurements, but also when coming for measuring performance, the weights upon the measurements should be considered for more accuracy in performance evaluation. Also the indifference of core measurements for differ industries or R&D functions, which indicates when establishing performance measurement in practice, there can be same measurements; however there should be different ways upon valuing, since the priority for them are different.

▼ In Taiwan, under the competitive environment that exported fruits enter the market gradually, domestic fruits should manifest their features through the establishment of product brands and governmental certifications. In addition, the consumer behavior such as consumersâ habits and characteristics of choosing domestic fruits will become the key factors whether domestic fruits will have great market share successfully. Therefore, this study intends to explore what the key factors are when our countrymen choose domestic fruits. Through
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP) Method, the key indicators that our countrymen choose domestic fruits have been established. Through complete collections of related literatures, including the collections and the explorations of literatures such as consumer behavior, Consumer Decision-Making Model, product attributes, and consumersâ characteristics of choosing fruits, this study has constructed the key indicators that our countrymen choose domestic fruits, in which the aspects of product, consumer habit and policy are included. The aspect of product includes brand, product feature, product price, product package style, product quality, product classification, and product safety and hygiene; the aspect of consumer habit includes purchase purpose, source of information, promotion activity and purchase location. Finally, this study is of the opinion that governmental policies play a key role in the aspect of policy. Therefore, the aspect of policy has also been classified as the main dimension in this study, including the sub-principles such as promotion policies, quality certification by the government, the governmentâs policies of imports and exports, traceability and so on. Through the analyses and retrievals of the questionnaires answered by the experts in the fields of production, official, and academia, related suggestions about marketing have been proposed, and provided as the reference for the supply and distribution units such as agriculture associations, fruit and vegetables cooperatives, and production-marketing groups and so on to select and set up related products and strategies. As a whole, this study has found out that as for the key factors that our countrymen choose domestic fruits, the most emphasized ones are: the aspect of productï¼0.406ï¼ï¼ the aspect of consumer habit ï¼0.361ï¼ï¼ the aspect of policyï¼0.233ï¼. In other words, in terms of the aspect of policy (traceability, quality certification by the government, promotion policies, and the governmentâs policies of imports and exports), consumers are less easily affected by the factor of the aspect of policy, aimed at the issue of the key indicator that our countrymen choose domestic fruits. In the perspective of related agriculture units, there is still room for improving the effort made according to our countryâs agriculture policies. In the future, the guiding principle for improvement needs be drawn up actively, aimed at the previous effort in the aspect of policy made by related agriculture units. In addition, in…

▼ In the decade of 1990s, many traditional industries of Taiwan, especially those of labor intense type, began to transfer their production lines to off shore sites for their foreign direct investment. Many of them were following their customersâ migrations to China, Vietnam and other Southeast Asian countries based on the need of upgrading their competence through supply chain integration and taking advantages of the abundance in human resource and lower labor cost in these countries. This study applies tanning industry A company as a model which became a multi-national corporate (MNC) by establishing its first tannery in Taiwan during the 1980s, building up its second factory in China in 1998 and then opening its third one in Vietnam for mass production in 2004. Concerning the environmental and water conservation issues, the three tanneries of A company utilize a production
process using wet blue instead of salted hides that most tanneries use as raw material to make finished leather as products. In the past few years, the volatility in hide market price, over capacity in the tanning industry worldwide, and customerâs bargaining power increase made a dramatic fall in the margins of tanning industry. Suffering from the low margins, A company is seeking the possibility of vertical integration in raw material supply by investing a beam house tannery with slated hide as raw material to make wet blue for its three tanneries producing finished leather. This study focused on the critical factors in the site selection decision making for A companyâs overseas wet blue tannery investment.
In this study, the high level management members of A company and selected experts from other tanneries were interviewed with a pretest questionnaire and then an
AHP questionnaire on the critical factors in site selection decision making for multinational tanning industryâs overseas vertical integration investment. The answered
AHP questionnaires were analyzed with software Expert Choice 2000 for
Analytic Hierarchy Process(
AHP) analysis.
The conclusions of this study based on the
AHP analysis results include:
1. The critical factors in site selection decision making for multinational tanning industryâs overseas vertical integration investment: the decisive elements in level two and level three of the
AHP model as well as the ranking in priority of all decisive elements.
2. The suggested most favorable site for A company to invest a wet blue tannery for its vertival integration.

▼ Facing the rapid change of global economy, enterprises which aim to expand markets and make a better profit, should not only focus on acquiring orders but also need to integrate their resources in an appropriate way in order to better fulfill orders. This demands enterprises to integrate information about production bases over the world to make the best use of resources.
In this thesis, we focus on the order dispatch problem in synthetic leather industry. Specifically, we identify important factors that contribute to the decision of where a given order should be dispatched and analyze their importance. We collect data from a synthetic leather company that have several production bases in eastern Asia. By consulting with experienced sales managers, we identified key factors that could affect order dispatch decision. Of all the related factors, we apply
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP) approach to get the order of importance among all factors.
Finally, we build an online supporting system with a data warehouse model, which offers a reliable reference for decision makers to dispatch orders more efficiently. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach indeed provides recommendations close to human decisions.

▼ Pavement management is one of the primary responsibilities for departments of transportation and other municipalities across the country. Efficient and proper use of taxpayer dollars to preserve and improve the existing transportation system has never been more important due to the current fiscal environment. Agencies use pavement management systems to store data describing the state of the network. This information is often used to help make decisions regarding the location of pavement preservation actions. There is often a discrepancy between the need estimates of network-level pavement management systems and where and how pavement preservation and improvement dollars are actually spent (i.e., actual pavement preservation and improvement projects). This research focuses on evaluating the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Pavement Management Information System (PMIS) to assess the agreement between its need estimates and actual construction projects at the district level. The research revealed there is little agreement between the output of PMIS’s Needs Estimate tool and actual construction projects. Possible reasons for this disagreement include the inability of PMIS’s Needs Estimates to consider the decision makers preferences and priorities, and also its inability to consider multiple years of condition data simultaneously. Through the use of the
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP), the research was able to capture the effect of several variables on the decision making
process. Using this method, pavement project suggestions were created that more closely matched actual projects than what the current Needs Estimate tool suggests.
The projects selected using the new method were then tested against actual construction within three counties of the Bryan district. The new method closely matches actual preservation decisions made by the district within these three counties.

▼ In today's competitive business environment, every construction company confronts a decision-making dilemma and must decide whether to bid or not bid on a project(s) or which project(s) to bid on among candidates. Even though the decision-makers come to the conclusion with different judgments, a final evaluation always requires putting different factors into consideration and contemplating the ups and downs of a project. Therefore, bid or no bid decision is complex and crucial for construction companies. The complexity comes from the consideration of many intangible and tangible factors in the decision-making
process (Mohanty 1992). Decision-making is hard because it requires a decision-maker to construct a structured thinking to include many unknown, yet complex variables and compare them simultaneously. Decision-making is crucial because poorly made bidding decisions could cause severe and irrevocable problems. For example, not bidding a favorable project could result in lost opportunities for companies to make profit, improve contractor's strength in the industry and gain a long-term relationship with a new client. On the other hand, bidding a project that actually does not fit the company's profile requires a lot of time, effort, and commitment without a favorable outcome (Ahmad 1990, Wanous et al. 2003). Given that "competitive bidding" is the most common bidding method in the construction industry among others (e.g., negotiated contracts, package deals, private finance initiative), investigating bidding strategies has been a focal point by researchers (Harris et al. 2006). Furthermore, more than 100 key factors that influence bidding decisions have been determined to date since the mid-1950s. Simultaneously, to expedite the
process, numerous decision-making models have been proposed. Despite the excessive availability of the factors and decision-making models, the facilitation rate of the subsidiary tools in the evaluation
process in the construction industry is very little. According to a survey by Ahmad & Minkarah (1988), only 11.1 percent of the construction companies use a decision making tool in order to come to a bid or not bid conclusion in the United States. The ultimate purpose of this study is to develop a practical decision-making tool to assist decision makers in the construction industry to select the most appropriate projects to bid on using
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP). Based on the collected demographic information (e.g., sector, size, type), the combined importance weights of the construction professionals are also presented in the study. Finally, the statistically significant differences between different groups of construction companies in how much weight they assign to a given bid/no bid decision factor is investigated. In reaching the abovementioned purpose, the following questions are addressed: • What are the most common key factors that influence bid/no bid decisions? • How can different judgments from different decision-makers be combined into one final decision? • How…

▼ In recent years, the buccal cancer in Taiwan has been ranked the fourth among the top ten leading causes of cancer death, and the first among people at the prime age ( 25 ~ 44 years old ). Since people at the prime age are usually the main bread winners in the family and the main contributors in the economic development of the society, how to prevent the occurrences of buccal cancers or how to provide proper medical service to buccal cancer patients has become an urgent topic of the present medical industry.
It is pointed out that the incidence of buccal cancers is frequently related to menâs smoking, diet habit and their chewing of betel nuts. Especially in Kaohsiung-Pingtung area in southern Taiwan, the population of chewing betel nuts is much higher than that in other metropolitan cities. Thus, the incidence of buccal cancers is in vogue in this area. The aim of the present study is to discuss the key factors affecting the quality of medical treatment on buccal cancer patients under the management system of E-Da Hospital. Based on this model, we wish to further apply it to other disease treatments as well and to make E-Da Hospital become a characteristic medical center in the near future.
This thesis adopts the
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP) to exploit the multi-estimate criteria models of the medical quality. The first layer is the key factor for medical quality to buccal cancer patients at E-Da Hospital. The second evaluation criterion is divided into three aspects: namely, âthe hospital image of medical serviceâ, âthe available administrative resourcesâ, and â the convenience for patientsâ taking medical treatmentâ. The third layer is the twelve evaluation characteristics. From this point of view, we can easily understand why patients choose E-Da Hospital as their priority.
The interviewed participants are composed of the surgeons, the nursing staff, the administration personnel at E-Da Hospital, and the buccal cancer patients and their family members. Fifteen effective questionnaires are collected. Based on the
Analytic Hierarchy Process, each
subject is interviewed throughout and the result is verified by ANOVA.
Based on the present study, we have found that the key factors of the management system for medical quality to buccal cancer patients at E-Da hospital are listed below in sequence – âthe hospital image of medical serviceâ, âthe convenience for patientsâ taking medical treatmentâ, and then âthe available administrative resourcesâ. Among the twelve evaluation characteristics, the critical top five ones are âmedical team workâ, âmedical effectsâ, âequipment noveltyâ, âhome visit after operationâ and â the convenience of transportationâ in order.
Several recommendations have been made to hopefully improve the management system and medical quality at E-Da hospital by strengthening the in-job training to the physicians and nurses and renovating medical equipment continuously. Besides, it is expected to set up buccal cancer patient club in the near future in order to achieve âthe Five Whole Attendance of…

▼ Since 2003, the density of convenient stores in Taiwan has surpassed it is in Japan and Taiwan has become one of the most competitive regions in the world. The business mode in modern convenient chain stores is established by a standard operating
process to duplicate rapidly to form franchise in a short period of time and build up advantage of economies of scale. The advantage will then reduce the overall operating cost to increase the profit. In order to solve the problem of manpower shortage generated from the speeding expansion of stores, joining âfranchiseâ would become the ideal solution. The core development of known-how for the four major convenient chain stores, 7-ELEVEn, FamilyMart, HiLife, and OK, is based on business mode of franchise chain stores. As of the end of 2008, the total number of four major convenient chain stores has exceeded over nine thousand. The majority of them are franchise stores and the franchise rate reaches 87.5%. Therefore, how to establish a complete staff education training to ensure operating quality and maintain store competitiveness is one of the keys in the business strategy for main franchise branch. This paper uses a certain major convenient franchise store in Taiwan as the target, and focuses on the effectiveness on critical success factors of staff education and training in the convenient franchise store.
This paper adopts
AHP (
Analytic Hierarchy Process), exploring from the reference and an interview in depth with company supervisors from the case to conclude five evaluation indicators of critical success factors and twenty-six success factors to create
AHP questionnaires. Then, twenty-five senior store supervisors and franchise store managers were required to
process questionnaire interview and select the critical success factors.
The three top evaluation indicator of critical success factors in second layer of structure of the staff education and training in convenient franchise stores in order are: (1) staff attitude; (2) reward and punishment measures; and (3) training course planning. The top five critical success factors in the third layer of structure are: (1) the degree of learning requirement for part-time staff required by store manager; (2) vivid and lively teaching method; (3) degree of store learning atmosphere; (4) connection between learning effectiveness and franchise renewal; and (5) acceptance of store manager towards education training.

▼ Recently, due to the citizen disagreement and boycott, many important public policies failed and the negative impact on government competiveness emerged. The agents and researchers pointed out that this consequence reflected the channel of the training and promotion for the civil service were malfunctioned. Lacking of sufficient training and objective promotion, it was difficult to allocate eligible street-level managers in government departments.
The â360-degree feedback appraised prospectâ was applied, â
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP)â was adopted, and the local civil servants were sampled to explore the relationship between civil servantsâ training and promotion.
As the result, we found âseven core training itemsâ and âseven core promotion indexâ, such as âprofessional training itemâ and âprofessional performance indexâ, and so on, are the relationship between civil servantsâ training and promotion. Besides, we found an asymmetric trend between training and promotion, that is most government departments adopted the individual and partial prospect to plan and establish both of the training and promotion, and neglected some of the âcore training itemsâ and âcore promotion indexâ. Moreover, we found the acknowledgements of these key factorsâ importance among street-level managers were differential in three tiers.
We suggested that the government combine âability trainingâ, âachievement promotionâ, and âcorrelative relationshipâ to plan the training courses and evaluation, and to construct both competence and achievement-orientated localized managersâ training and promotion systems to overcome the obstacles between training and promotion. Besides, the priority of implementing core training and promotion index should be considered carefully to maximize the benefits of the limited budget and to reflect the working achievement faithfully, and then solve the problem of insufficient training and unfair promotion. Through solid training and fair promotion, the defect of governmental incompetence may be relieved.

▼ Commercial activity merger and acquisition (M&A) has become increasingly mature in various countries all around the world, many multinational corporations consider the factors of cost reduction, market share and expanding operating range etc. to reach the competition strategy completion goal they set by M&A. Integration after M&A is a key factor to the success of value creation (Sudarsanam, 1995). If the integration between the two organizations do not work well after M&A, it will reduce the comprehensive performance and resell at a loss eventually. Therefore, critical factor seems particularly important to the success of M&A integration.
This study mainly discusses the key success factors of M&A integration of multinational corporations. Firstly, to lay down the preliminary hierarchical structure of key success factors of multinational corporation M&A integration through the literature review, and look at the integrity of the structure again by using Delphi method. Then using the
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP) and conducting pairwise comparison between each two factors, to establish the proportional system of key success factors to M&A integration of multinational corporation. Results from the study show that:
There are 7 key success factors of multinational corporation integration after M&A, the order is: Quality of communication, Rules and regulations, Enterprise values, Function and power, position adjustment, Organization work scope confirmation, Properly handle of workers' rights, Way of communication. And according to the research results, references for multinational corporations provids to seek for the key success factors of M&A integration as well as for the further research.

▼ Fire plays an important role in forest ecosystem management depending on the dual character of it. It should be managed and supervised effectively. In this particular study, the study area was located in the north part of Gävleborg County in Sweden, which is in a high- latitude region. Seven factors, divided into natural factors and human caused factors, were extracted from digital elevation model (DEM), classified land use map and feature shape files provided by National Land Survey of Sweden (Lantmäteriet). Two different weighting schemes for the factors were determined by the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. With the help of ArcGIS 9.3 and Erdas 9.3, two classified result maps were obtained, where forest fire risk ranks were shown as five classes, very low, low, moderate, high and very high. The 43 fire incidents in the year 2007 and 2008 recorded by Global Fire Management System were used to evaluate the results. The results show that the higher rank the region is, the larger is the probability for forest fire risk and higher the risk to spread the fire. Furthermore, according to the occurrence time of the fire incidents, the period of time from end of May to beginning of June was generalized as a dangerous period for forest fire risk in this study area. After analyzing and discussing, even if there might be some uncertainties caused by variable selection, resolution problem and weighting schemes, the results were generally reliable.

▼ Logistics outsourcing has been applied in practices by enterprises for decades, but its efficiency is always restricted because logistics service providers (LSPs) often only have a single function such as delivery or warehousing. In the last few years, LSPs have upgraded their capabilities to support some other logistics services including value-added services, materials management, information-related services etc. The purpose of this thesis is to identify the differences between self-built logistics system and outsourcing logistics system by using the Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats (SWOT) strategic analysis; and figure out how to apply the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to make an appropriate selection among LSPs that based on the single-case study of Gevalia. Both quantitative and qualitative methods have been used in this study, authors expect to describe and explore the application of AHP approach regarding to the case company which implements outsourcing logistics system. Accordingly, it could be a good idea for case company to implement the mixed mode of self-built and outsourcing logistics system after using the SWOT strategic analysis. In addition, the production and logistics manager of case company emphasized that the five selection criteria including “compatibility”, “delivery performance”, “location”, “management” and “cost” should be considered as a priority among other different criterion when he selected a LSP. As a result, it will be efficient and effective for us to simulate a best decision for those industrial manufacturing enterprises to achieve a path regarding to the selection of the best logistics partner that based on the significant AHP approach.

▼ CAPES
The Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) involves an integrated approach of natural and anthropic elements and it should be organized to minimize conflicts and apply resources in a sustainability way. The integrated coastal management can be considered as a permanent administrative process where the actions taken, may or may not be effective for a community, an estuary or the coast of an entire nation. From the definition of ICZM and other Brazilian laws
was identified a number of possible variables to be part of an evaluation model for the effectiveness of integrated…

▼ Raziskava zajema teoretično in praktično predstavitev metod AHP – analitičnega hierarhičnega procesa in ANP – analitičnega mrežnega procesa.
The survey encompasses theoretical and practical presentation of the methods AHP – Analytic Hierarchy Process – and ANP – Analytic Network Process. On a basis of evolved decision-making tool for analysis of tourist activity at a farm and collected data we want to assess the most adequate provider, i.e. a tourist farm, which will maximally fulfil beforehand defined criteria. Results of the survey will accurately show advantages as well as disadvantages of examined tourist farms. The survey will be of the greatest help to potential users of the AHP and ANP methods in development of decision-making models, but on the other hand will also offer immediate support to consumers, who would make decisions for holiday spending at a tourist farm. After examination of above mentioned groups of subjects we got final results, which were equal in the AHP as well as ANP models. In all evolved models the best provider of tourist activity was rated the
Tourist farm IV, which achieved the highest scores due to its wide selection.

▼ âResearch and Developmentâ possess three major characteristics: (1) Lots of uncertainty will be encountered during the
process of R&D; (2) Required for a certain of expenses and manpower; (3) Long pay back time; Therefore, the decision-making of R&D could be very complicated with far-reaching influence. Nevertheless, once the decision maker made an incorrect decision, it may cause lots of consequences that can't be remedied. For this reason, the key
subject of this paper is to construct a decision-making model to help the decision maker to make RD decisions. While making the decisions of RD projects, its decision making environment is often: (1) subjective (2) quantized (3) group participated , or (4) uncertain, Therefore, this paper use T.L.SAATYâs
AHP-
ANALYTIC HIERARCHY PROCESS to build a decision-making model for the equipment R&D project.
The DM model use L- Companyâs âR&D Planning Projectâ as an example. Analysis of characteristic and construction of Hierarchies Structure will be carried out to determine evaluating items of each hierachy and the relation of each hierachy. Moreover, the analysis will be correctly in accordance with AHPâs evaluation scaling to make the Pair wise Comparison and get the maximum eigenvalue and eigenvector, to achieve the priority for decision making of L- Companyâs âEquipment R&D Projectâ, In the end, an
AHP evaluation model was build to reinforce the quality and efficiency of decision making for Equipment RD and itâs another field of
AHP application.

▼ The Chinese steel industry has entered the age of oversupply. In 2015, the total amount of weight produced in China added up to 804 million metric tons while the consumption of steel declined to merely a level of 686 million metric tons. The overproduction of more than 100 million metric tons can only be exported to the other countries in Asia at a low price, which severely disturbs the order of the regional steel market. Industries which fall into the price war can only try to survive by means of mass producing and cheap selling but often end up with even severer deficits. Over-production, over-supply, and a lack of product-differentiation market have become issues for the global steel market and challenges to all enterprise managers. It is of top priority to find a way out of the hard times. Technical marketing, which creates customer values, and key success factor identifying is a break-through and promising solution.
In this paper, key success factor (KSF) and
analytic hierarchy process (
AHP) are used to analyze the operation mode of technical marketing of the steel industry to specify the key success factors in technical marketing. Michael Porter's Value Chain Model from his famous work âCompetitive Advantage, 1985â is also used to investigate application conditions of cross-industry alliance and vertical-integration of supply chain. A study and a solution on technical marketing are also proposed and the effectiveness of the grand alliance is verified. Qualitative analysis is used to analyze the steel industries in China, Japan, and Taiwan and furthermore to study the downstream steel users, such as steel structure manufacturers, automobile parts manufacturers and trading companies.Thirteen experts from seven companies are interviewed in depth. A quantity analysis in the form of questionnaire is performed to survey 12 members consisting of domestic and overseas technical service engineers and their supervisors.
Through this research, a total-stage & multi-phase operation mode of technical marketing in the steel industry is summarized. The industry environment is proved to be a key success factor with an attribute weight of 42.1%. It is worthy of notice that among the factors of the all-level evaluation, industrial alliance is the most influential factor with an attribute weight of 17.7%. It reveals the fact that the competition among the global steel industry has evolved to industry-chain level and the old competing mode of fighting alone which domestic industries used to take does not work anymore. In this paper, in addition to the analysis of key success factors, a solution is also introduced and verified to provide a strategic structure and a practical action plan of technical marketing for enterprise managers. Based on technology, a new application which combines marketing manufacturing, channeling and branding is proposed to realize the industrial grand alliance as a reference for decision-making in order to strengthen industrial competitiveness. CSC, CSD, and BBI worked together and integrated 8 excellent…

This paper intends to present and analyze a method of multi-criteria decision making. In these decisions the alternatives have been predetermined and there are multiple criteria affecting them. Decisions like these are linked with many areas of science, but there are in everyone’s daily lives too, fact that makes the effective handling really important. The present study is been dealing with a method called Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), invented by Thomas L. Saaty in seventies. The AHP is based on pairwise comparisons among the factors that determine the decision. The Saaty’s fundamental scale of absolute numbers is used in making paired comparison judgments. In the first chapter of the study where the theoretical base of the method is represented, will be seen that AHP with the relative comparisons makes everything measurable. AHP intends through hierarchical structuring of the problem to determine the best of the alternatives. The AHP approach with simplicity to the complexity of decisions makes the method conceptually simple and extremely powerful. Later in this paper will be presented the mathematical background of the method through the axiomatic foundation as given by Thomas L. Saaty. Finally, will be dealt with problems of location selection decisions in international operations and the paper will be completed with the implementation of such a problem in Expert Choice.

▼ In the past few decades, there has been increasing concern towards the potential effects of industrial pollutants on our eco-system. Each country has developed and enacted stringent environmental regulatory standards to address this concern. Several studies conducted in the general area of regulatory impact show significant direct impact of these regulations on organizations. Pharmaceutical industry in particular, due to the generation of variety of hazardous waste during operations, is one among the highly regulated industrial sector globally. The financial liabilities and resource shortages associated while incorporating abatement technologies and related procedural changes make Pharmaceutical Small and Medium Enterprises (PSMEs) highly vulnerable to these regulatory compliance standards.
This study aims to investigate two aspects of environment regulation compliance in the PSMEs, namely
To identify the nature and magnitude of vulnerabilities encountered by the PSMEs in India while complying with environmental regulations, and
To explore and to analyze the adaptation mechanisms followed by the PSMEs in India, while complying with environmental regulations.
Literature explorations in the area of environmental regulation, enforcement, compliance, pharmaceutical industry and SMEs, gave limited studies with focus on India. Hence a questionnaire based survey was administered online and face to face. The sampling design followed was stratified random and the total sample size taken for the final analysis was 71. The survey targeted the senior executive officers of pharmaceutical firms across India. Unstructured discussions and interactions with experts in the field were also carried out to understand the gravity of each concern. Data was analyzed using the
Analytic Hierarchy Process (
AHP) for exploring and prioritizing vulnerability concerns, factor analysis for identifying the general adaptation mechanisms and systems practiced, and cluster analysis for assessing the underlying relationship among vulnerability concerns and adaptation patterns of firms under study.
Findings of the analysis highlighted several significant drivers of the interaction between the PSMEs and the environment regulations. Some of them are as follows: One, conforming to literature finding, our study also found manufacturing related problems as the most significant concern for the PSMEs. However, unlike the Western countries, it was the poor quality of raw material available in the market that
causes the main concern, and not the need for intensive capital investment in abatement technologies. Investigations revealed the steady global market decline for this sub-sector and the need for new innovations to meet the changing global trends. Two, marketing was a significantly higher concern for the PSMEs than regulator and regulatory management. Marketing has special relevance in the pharmaceutical industry as it deals with health and life saving issues for the people, and this got highlighted in our results. Three, the study found external…

▼ This study demonstrates that hybrid methods can be used for measuring the risk severity of technology-induced errors (TIE) that result from use of health information technology (HIT).
The objectives of this research study include:
1. Developing an integrated conceptual risk assessment model to measure the risk severity of technology-induced errors.
2. Analyzing the criticality and risk thresholds associated with TIE’s contributing factors.
3. Developing a computer-based simulation model that could be used to undertake various simulations of TIE’s problems and validate the results.
Using data from published papers describing three sample problems related to usability and technology-induced errors, hybrid methods were developed for assessing the risk severity and thresholds under various simulated conditions.
A risk assessment model (RAM) and its corresponding steps were developed. A computer-based simulation of risk assessment using the model was also developed, and several runs of the simulation were carried out. The model was tested and found to be valid.
Based on assumptions and published statistics obtained by publically available databases, we measured the risk severity and analyzed its criticality to classify risks of contributing factors into four different classes. The simulation results validated the efficiency and efficacy of the proposed methods with the sample problems.
