▼ According to the World Health Organization Nearly 3,400 people die on the world's roads every day. Tens of millions of people are injured or disabled every year. Children, pedestrians, cyclists and the elderly are among the most vulnerable of road users with developing countries suffering more to these problems
This Thesis is concerned with traffic accidents and safety in Nigeria. It focuses on the fundamentals, trends in of road traffic accidents, the impacts on the road traffic accidents, the possible causes, possible intervention and prevention schemes.
As this thesis a thorough literature review, the materials and methods includes literatures from PubMed, informations from the WHO date base, informations from other relevant health sites like CDC, and news on webs for the situation. It should be noted that statistics are very conservative and based on estimation as it is very difficult to really get very accurate statistics about the case in Nigeria due to poor records management and inefficiency to get through rural areas.
Accident records and descriptions of current safety measures obtained from such relevant agencies as the Federal Road Safety Corps who are the solely responsible for road safety matters in Nigeria, The Nigeria Police and Department of Road Transport Services, also with maps and photographs provided the basic data for the study. The results shown various factors that by and large the driver is the main cause of the high rates accidents that happen in Nigeria, the functional limitations of FRSC as the top body responsible for road safety matters, the inefficiency in sufficient proper manner of implementing the driver license and Vehicle registration schemes. Also the poor driving culture of Nigerians which arises from factors like weak traffic education, public awareness and enforcement programs, as well as contribution from environmental factors. Restructuring and re-orienting of the lead agency, in taking road safety management as something imperative and also declaring traffic accidents as a severe national health problems would go a long way in making the roads in Nigeria more bearable and safer. The government implementation of policies and measures would also improve the safe surveillance in Nigeria.

procenu frekvencije nesreća, težine posledica nesreća i empirijskog
Kod
modeliranja i procene težine posledica nesreća korišćen je
multinomni logit model.
istog putnog prelaza aktivnim sistemom.

Iodine and cesium radio nuclides constitute important fission products (FP) of 235U. If the volatile forms (gas, aerosol) of FP would be released into the environment during a hypothetical severe accident of pressurized water reactor (PWR), a potential health hazard would be the ensue. Understanding their behaviors is an important prerequisite for planning appropriate mitigation measures. Severe reactor accident simulations are conducted in several tests of the international PHEBUS-FP program. The suspected connection existing between FP such as Cs, Mo and I, hydrothermal chemistry and its role on the iodine speciation in the primary circuit of reactor coolant system are highlighted. An experimental setup was developed to study the chemical behavior of CsI/MoO3 mixtures at 1600°C under steam and then during the steam cooling to 150 °C. These hydrothermal conditions are representative of the primary circuit of PWR. The analyses using ICP-MS, powder XRD, MEBE-EDX and Raman microspectrometry identify submicrometric aerosol particles as CsI, MoO3.xH2O and Cs2MonO3n+1 (n=1, 2, 3, 5, 7) according to the starting CsI/MoO3 ratio. The formation of Cs2MonO3n+1 induces the generation of gaseous iodine. This later result is in agreement with PHEBUS-FP experiments. The simulations of vapor phase chemistry and aerosol phenomena of the {I, Cs, Mo, O, H} system in the experimental setup were carried out using the SOPHAEROS code based on the thermodynamic chemical equilibriums. Some discrepancies were observed between experimental and simulated results, particularly for Mo rich particles and the volatile…

▼ The purpose of this study is to study the traffic related health and road accident risks among herders who use motorbikes in Mongolia. Also, it is to study the trend and tendency of road and traffic accidents among herders and to identify preventative actions that could possibly decrease the rate of traffic accidents.
The study will be advantageous for experts in public and global health field to understand “How does ongoing transportation transition among herder population impact their road and traffic accident risks and other health risks related to motorbikes?”, “What types of hidden and unknown road and traffic accident risks exist among herders who use two-wheel motorbikes?”, “Why are today’s herders more keen to use motorbikes than horses?”.
This is a qualitative study based on the semi-structured interviews with ten herders who use motorbikes for their everyday lives and formerly used horses for the same purposes. Qualitative content analysis has been used to process the study findings.
Safe vehicles and safe people, safe speeds and safe roads (4S) are the basic four elements of the Safe System framework for road safety. The main interventions to prevent road and traffic accidents should be based on 4S. The study aimed to identify the herders’ road and traffic risks through the 4S approach.
It is evident that the transportation transition from the horses to the motorbikes has increased herders’ road and traffic accident risks greatly. Herders are failing to maintain the four key elements of road safety and having high risks by possessing less knowledge and poor implementation of the traffic rules, including deficient maintenance, drunk driving, driving with excessive passengers, driving on icy and snowy, slippery terrain, driving during winter, child driving and no helmet usage in the countryside. Also, herders have the mindset that traffic rules must be obeyed only in the town to avoid the penalties of the traffic police.
The Government of Mongolia ought to take culturally sensitive and holistic actions to reduce the road and traffic risks on the basis of the typical needs and risks among herders. This requires involvement from multiple sectors such as transport, police, health, education, as well as agriculture.

▼ When unsafe conditions arise in a workplace, they may result in employee accidents and fatalities. However, if these problems are detected early, new hazard controls and safety initiatives can be introduced in order to actively reduce or prevent the occurrence of these events. Unfortunately, many safety systems currently monitor and report data that has been aggregated over long time periods, making it difficult to realize and respond to pattern shifts in a timely manner.
When monitoring a process over time, a commonly used tool is statistical process control charting. Traditionally used in manufacturing, control charts indicate a deviation from historically "normal" or "in-control" behavior and have become increasingly common in healthcare and public health monitoring. This dissertation studies the use of control charts to monitor the frequency of occupational safety incidents, with the overarching goal of investigating the effects of data aggregation on the detection performance of these charts.
Specifically, this dissertation 1) qualitatively establishes the need for more frequent monitoring of safety incidents; 2) investigates the comparative performance of control charts with aggregated and non-aggregated data for the detection of increased
accident frequency, using a case study with data from an industrial partner; 3) more generally compares the performance of these charts for a Poisson process with a range of simulated process shifts; and 4) discusses the potential future challenges of including
accident severity in quantitative safety monitoring systems. The comprehensive results indicate that lower degrees of data aggregation are preferred, and suggestions for better data collection and employee communication practices are offered to aid the transition for companies.

▼ Child injuries are a growing global public health problem. They are a significant area of concern from the age of one year, and progressively contribute more to overall rates of death until children reach adulthood. This study was done to assess the pattern of childhood injuries and associated factors of severity among children visiting pediatric emergency unit of TAH Methodology and material:- A hospital based cross-sectional study was conducted in the months between September 2013 and June 2014. 380 children were recruited using formula. Data was collected using face to face interview and medical charts. Result : Of the 380 children included in the study, there were 286(75.3%) males and 94 (24.7%) females a ratio of 3:1. Unintentional injuries were 88.2% (N=335) and child maltreatment accounted 10.8% (N=41). Fall down
accident comprising 52.9% (N=201) of all injury followed by road traffic injuries 22.1% (N=84). Majority of the injury had occurred at home and home surrounding 53.7% (N=206). head and neck (including the spinal cord) and extremities injuries accounted 36.1%(N=137) and 36.1%(N=137), respectively. Fracture alone was seen in 42.1% of the cases. Majority of the cases (43.9%) had arrived to TAH more than 24 hours after the injury occurred. 48.9% (N=186) were admitted, and immediate death after arrival had occurred in 1.8%(N=7) of the cases. In the multivariate analysis, age of the study cases and nature of injury were strong predictors of the severity of injury. Conclusion The most frequent mechanism of injury was fall down
accident. Presentation for care was often delayed. Majority of the injury had occurred at home and home surrounding. Nature of the injury and Age of the study cases strongly predicted the severity of the injury. Hence, we recommend the design and implementation of safety precautions of home environment and pedestrians.

▼ In this study, the researcher tried to assess road traffic
accident causes and control
mechanisms undertaken by authorities, in Addis Ababa traffic police bureau and
Addis Ababa Road Authority. Traffic
accident overall linkage with human security
in Addis Ababa has been examined using mixed methodological approach, i.e.,
qualitative and quantitative. As findings revealed, combination of factors has
immensely contributed to the incidence of road traffic
accident (RTAs) in Addis
Ababa, such as human recklessness, vehicles defect, poor road design and poor
traffic regulation enforcement. The study found the multifaceted effects of RTAs on
the economy of households in particular and the country in general, on the social
interaction of victims and family, as well as on the physical safety or the survival of
individuals including permanent and temporal health problems. Counter-measures
are being carried out by authorities starting from creating awareness through
education campaigns, improving road designs and enforcement of the traffic
regulation of the city. However the rate of RTAs is still rising and persistently
occurring. The findings of the research reveal that RTAs have resulted great human
life loss and huge property damages in Addis Ababa. Little attention is given to the
problem despite the alarming increase of road
accident from time to time. The
recommendations made by the researcher to reduce the car accidents level in Addis
Ababa city are as follows, provide education and training to all segment of citizens
about Road safety, Computerize of the system, develop the skilled manpower,
Improving road safety and licenses awarding system, Introduce pedestrians penalty
system, use latest technology. The government should implement different control
mechanism in the city

▼ Motor vehicle accidents are frequent incidents with disastrous results. The methods used to detect and
report the accidents are slow and cumbersome, leading to avoidable losses and casualties. Accurate, reliable
and electronically accessible motor vehicle accident data is unavailable in many developing countries.
Instant GPS based motor vehicle accident detection and reporting solution has been developed using
existing technologies to overcome these deficiencies.
The system consists of accident detection, vehicle tracking and accident surveillance modules. The accident
detection module has impact sensors, signal conditioning electronics and accident detection logic unit.
Active GPS device with three important capabilities including a GPS signal interface, digital input interface
and a wireless interface with transmitting capabilities make up the vehicle tracking module. The
surveillance module has a computer with an input interface for a wireless GSM enabled mobile phone. The
computer hosts a database for recording accident incidents, accessible through a website. The recorded
accident data is displayed at the client workstation against a GIS digital map backdrop, using customized
software to authorized users of the system via the website and the internet technology. New accident
incident will sound an alarm at the client side to alert the user. This enables authorized users, for example
the police and ambulance paramedics to learn about an accident occurrence, allowing them to track and
move to the accident site for evacuations.
Fifty impacts were generated in experiments using the prototype developed in this project. It was found
that 98 percent of the impacts were recorded on the database as accidents, within an impressive average
time of fifteen seconds and authorized web clients could access it immediately. Email alert messages were
send to pre-configured contacts immediately on updating the accident occurrence.
Instant GPS based motor vehicle accident detection and reporting solution offers a feasible and in many
ways ideal technique of detecting and reporting accidents. In addition, accident database allows for data
mining analysis, with findings which can be employed to significantly reduce vehicle accidents.
Future studies could be conducted to come up with a teclmique on how mobile telephone technology can be
employed to update new accident incidents into the accident database, especially for motor vehicles not
fitted with the automatic detecting and reporting devices. Perhaps surveillance and notifications of
accidents could be extended to mobile phone alerts via SMS

▼ Changing speed limit leads to proportional changes in average speeds which may affect the number of traffic accident occurrences. It is however critical and challenging to evaluate the impact of a speed limit alteration on the number and severity of accidents due primarily to the unavailability of adequate data and the inherent limitations of existing approaches. Although speed is regarded as one of the main contributory factors in traffic accident occurrences, research findings are inconsistent. Independent of the robustness of their statistical approaches, accident frequency models typically use accident grouping concepts based on spatial criteria (e.g. accident counts by link termed as a link-based approach). In the link-based approach, the variability of accidents is explained by highly aggregated average measures of explanatory variables that may be inappropriate, especially for time-varying variables such as speed and volume. This thesis re-examines accident-speed relationships by developing a new accident data aggregation method that enables improved representation of the road conditions just before accident occurrences in order to evaluate the impact of a potential speed limit increase on the UK motorways (e.g. from 70 mph to 80 mph). In this work, accidents are aggregated according to the similarity of their pre-accident traffic and geometric conditions, forming an alternative accident count dataset termed as the condition-based approach. Accident-speed relationships are separately developed and compared for both approaches (i.e. link-based and condition-based) by employing the reported annual accidents that occurred on the Strategic Road Network of England in 2012 along with traffic and geometric variables. Accident locations were refined using a fuzzy-logic-based algorithm designed for the study area with 98.9% estimated accuracy. The datasets were modelled by injury severity (i.e. fatal and serious or slight) and by number of vehicles involved (i.e. single-vehicle and multiple-vehicle) using the multivariate Poisson lognormal regression, with spatial effects for the link-based model under a full Bayesian inference method. The results of the condition-based models imply that single-vehicle accidents of all severities and multiple-vehicle accidents with fatal or serious injuries increase at higher speed conditions, particularly when these are combined with lower volumes. Multiple-vehicle slight injury accidents were not found to be related with higher speeds, but instead with congested traffic. The outcomes of the link-based model were almost the opposite; suggesting that the speed-accident relationship is negative. The differences between the results reveal that data aggregation may be crucial, yet so far overlooked in the methodological aspect of accident data analyses. By employing the speed elasticity of motorway accidents that was derived from the calibrated condition-based models it has been found that a 10 mph increase in UK motorway speed limit (i.e. from 70 mph to 80 mph) would result in a 6-12%…

▼ In the medical, aviation and nuclear industries, among others, the potential for fatalities due to system failure is high. Therefore the necessity for
accident and incident classification systems that can produce accurate statistical and trend analysis in high-hazard industries is well established. Yet many systems do not produce accurate analyses due to a lack of consensus or reliability among users in coding reports using these systems. Inconsistent analyses lead to ineffective or potentially counter-productive safety measures. This thesis aimed to understand the factors influencing the reliability of
accident and incident classification systems in high-hazard industries and subsequently, to develop methods to achieve high consensus in these classification systems. To explore reliability the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System and its Australian Defence Force derivative version were used as case studies for reliability assessment. The reliability of each system was assessed and factors associated with coder expertise, training and usability explored. The research was then extended across all
accident and incident classification systems by using classification theory to guide a strategic review of reliability. This involved qualitative and quantitative analyses of the factors affecting user consensus conducted across more than twenty classification systems across six safety-critical industries. As a result four recommendations were developed for improving the reliability of classification systems. These included designing domain-specific systems, limiting system size and reducing psychological and bias-causing terminology. These recommendations were tested through application to the Australian Defence Force version of the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System. Promisingly, they improved reliability by more than twenty percent across all levels of the classification system. This research has built on previous studies of improving the reliability of
accident and incident classification systems that have largely been limited to improvements of specific systems. The recommendations enable a more systematic approach to improving reliability across all
accident and incident classification systems within high hazard industries. As a result, the likelihood of effective hazard intervention strategies will be increased and should lead to improvement of safety in high-hazard industries.

▼ In order to prevent accidents we need to understand them, this is achieved through effective accident investigation. Accident investigation is a complex process of gathering and evaluating information to determine factors that may have implications on the final event. One of the fundamental aspects in the investigation process is to capture geospatial data of the incident, to document the scene in its current condition, providing the investigation team with a record for future reference. The production of plans have conventionally remained the same, with a surveyor tasked to illustrate a 3D scene with 2D representations. Recent developments in instrumentation have provided the geospatial industry with the means to capture vast amounts of 3D data directly using laser scanning. In addition, there have been considerable advancements in software applications which can be used to process the surveyed datasets. This research evaluates the use of the latest technology in respect of accident investigation applying the methodology to fire related incidents, industrial accidents and mining incidents. This is achieved by using a number of case studies that have been undertaken throughout the timeline of the project and whilst working with industry professionals in the field.

A aplicação direta do método conduziu a
respeita a interseções suburbanas e rurais.

▼ The construction has become one of the main economic activities in Malaysia. As for that, it is very crucial for the entire player in the construction industry be at best in all aspect. This will help to boost construction industry image to the public, especially in term of safety. In Malaysia, several efforts have been done by the government such as enforce legislation relating to occupational safety and health and introduced of Safety and Health Assessment System in Construction (SHASSIC) through CIDB Malaysia in 2008. However, the total number of accident happen on site still increases from year to year. This will eventually effect one of the most expensive construction projects in Malaysia, which is Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), with total cost RM 46 Billion. If an accident happens on this site, an additional cost will be added hence affect the overall outcome for the project in term of total time completion, total cost, and quality of the work done by the contractor. Many previous researcher have come up with several safety measures implementation in order to minimise accident to happen on site and reduce risk of hazard. However, there were limitation of study has been done on safety measures that will be implement inside the MRT construction sites. The objective of this study is to examine the factor that influences safety measures implemented in MRT construction sites and develop a conceptual framework for future used by the main contractor of MRT construction. A case study has been done at the MRT construction site between four (4) out of eight (8) main contractors available. Five (5) out of six (6) variable were confirmed effected the safety measures implementation which is human, workplace, documentation, government, and unpredictable. Meanwhile, one (1) new variable was discovered will affect the safety measures implementation which is Public Awareness. This shows that different field and difficulty of construction will affect the safety measures implementation in the construction site.

▼ Air pollution has become the major global concern regarding to the harmful
health effect, increased morbidity, and mortality especially for particulate air
pollutant. However, there is still very limited study that discussed the effects
of exposures of dust and particle matters in industry at Malaysia especially
respirable dust. This study was focus on the respirable dust concentration and
their respirable health symptoms in selected industry. Three (3) case studies had
been done as data collection. For each case, several sampling location was chosen
for sampling station and several workers was randomly choosen as respondents
in assessing the exposure of respirable dust by using personal environmental
monitoring (PEM) method. Series of a direct reading measurement for area
sampling of respirable dust (PM10), carbon dioxide (CO2), temperature and
relative humidity were also conducted at the same time. Questionnaires were
administrated in purposed to determine the respiratory health problem symptoms
and supported by lung function test by using spirometer with a standard method
of sampling. The result of the study showed most of the workers in paper
based mill were exposed to respirable dust when the Time Weightage Average
(TWA) result was above the permissible exposure limit which is 5 mg/m3 and
3 mg/m3 from Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and
American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) standard
respectively. From the survey feedbacks, out of 30 symptoms, there are only
five symptoms that are significant with the year of exposure. For pulmonary
lung function test, there were 81.81% (paper based mill), 53.33% (palm oil
mill) and 65.63% for automotive plant were in normal spiro status respectively.
Significant reduction was observed in the mean values of Force Vital Capacity
(FVC), Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV1), and Force Expiratory
Ratio (FEV1/FVC) among workers. It is concluded that lung function among
exposure workers is impaired and stratification of result shows a respiratory health
symptoms effects of years to respirable dust exposure on lung function.

▼ ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: Road traffic injuries are major causes of death and disability worldwide, with
a disproportionate number of occurrences in developing countries particularly in school age
children.
OBJECTIVES: To assess the magnitude and factors associated with road traffic accidents
among Children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
METHOD: Four years retrospective record review about road traffic accidents among children
was conducted from records of all sub cities of Addis Ababa Traffic Control and Investigation
Department (AATCID).Data were collected using structured checklist . Bivariate and
multivariate analysis was done using SPSS version 20.
RESULT: A total of 1019 accidents among children have been registered in all police stations of
sub cities of Addis Ababa from March 2010 to February 2014. Of these 125(12.3%) resulted in
fatal
accident, 510(50%) in severe injuries and 384(37.7%) in light injuries. Overall, 608 (59.6%)
of the accidents occurred during rush hours. Children in the age group 4-6 years and children from 7-
10 years were more likely to die from road traffic accidents compared to children in the age
group 11-14 years AOR 2.19, 95% C.I (1.29, 3.75) and AOR 2.15, 95% C.I (1.34, 3.46)
respectively. Drivers with less than one year driving experience were more likely to cause fatal
accidents compared to their counterparts AOR 2.77, 95% C.I (1.16, 6.66).
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION: The rise in road traffic
accident in Addis
Ababa among children is alarming. Therefore, Road safety laws, proper and adequate training of
drivers and public education need to be in place to respond to the high morbidity and mortality
associated with road traffic accidents.

▼ Introductions Road transportation provides benefits both to nations and to individuals by facilitating the movement of goods and people. It enables increased access for daily living and programs on the country at large. But these increased in access and number of transportation pose a great challenge in the individuals daily activity ranging from minor injury to death and the nation also suffers from lose of productive citizens and economic shift to preventable health activities
Objectives The general objective of the study is to assess the magnitude of and factors contributing to the Mortality related to Road Traffic Accidents in `Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from September 2013 to August 2014.
Methodology Data from the Addis Ababa Police Commission; Traffic Police Department was collected from the checklist used to collect information by the police officer at the scene and the logbook and entered to SPSS version 16.00 and description was performed. Finally the result was generated from the SPSS and will be presented to the department of emergency medicine and on the professional association’s conference. Dissemination of the result will be made available to concerned bodies (Addis Ababa Traffic Police Department, Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia and Federal Ministry of Transport and respected Addis Ababa Offices (Transport, Health, Traffic Police).
Result Overall, there were 2372 recorded road traffic accidents (excluding accidents with only property damage) in addis ababa during 2006(2013/14). Of these, 382(16.1%) were fatal. Among all fatalities majority were male 279(73.03%), Male/Female- 3:1 and pedestrians 321(84.0%). Fatal accidents were more prevalent on isled roads 262(60.7%) and involved especially commercial cars. More than half of fatalities 205(53.8%) occurred due to failure to give a way for pedestrians.
Conclusion Majority of affected were vulnerable road users among which pedestrians were predominant and affected while crossing the road outside the zebra cross and responsible parties were driving commercial cars and vast majority of victims died at the scene instantaneously which needs policy on pedestrian safety and education on behavioral change. These findings can serve as a basis for health care professionals and policymakers to create preventive measures for traffic accidents.

▼ The quest for pain relief has been the reason why casualties visit the emergency department to seek appropriate intervention. The aim of the study was to explore pain management by nurses among Road Traffic Accident casualties at the 37 Military Hospital. A qualitative descriptive design guided by the caregiver aspect of the Social Communication Model of Pain (Craig, 2009) was used in the study. Purposive sampling technique was employed to recruit thirteen nurses from the trauma surgical emergency unit of the 37 Military Hospital. Interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide. All the interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data was manually analysed and four themes were generated using thematic content approach. These were; nurses’ pain assessment of casualties, nurses’ pain management of casualties, nurses’ personal pain experiences and institutional factors influencing casualties’ pain assessment and management. The study identified the importance of application of adequate knowledge of pain assessment and management in the intervention of RTA casualties’ pain. Personal pain experiences of nurses turn to influence their pain management. The study also identified inadequate staff and logistics, lack of training and protocols and limited working space to adversely affect pain management of road traffic accident casualties. The study concluded with the recommendation that nurses at the emergency units to be adequately knowledgeable in pain management and have access to an environment that can meet the pain relief expectations of casualties

The goal of this thesis is to expand our understanding of purchasing and consumption practices for a group of individuals that make up a family. We explore the notions of crisis, events, life accidents, turning points at the family level, and their influences on buying and consumption practices. We adopt a longitudinal approach with data collection extending over more than 3 years and combine several data collection techniques. The protocol used is ethnomarketing, a research method adapted from anthropology and ethnography to marketing research. The research focuses on the influence of major life changes (e.g., births, children leaving home, retirement, death) and crises (the 2008 economic crisis for example) on consumption practices with analysis carried out using thematic analysis and semiotics. This doctoral thesis starts with a look at the research methodology, followed by a description of six of the families studied, intra-familial and inter-family analysis, theoretical discussion and finally managerial contributions. The thesis highlights the importance of the individual’s perception of the event. Furthermore, the idea of identity is a key factor in understanding the influence of changes and crises. This research also considers the following notions- others, objects, places and times - in consumption practices.

▼ Vehicular accidents within Tennessee increased by 25% within 2009-2019 according to Tennessee’s Integrated Traffic Analysis Network. Accidents rank in the top three causes of accidental death across all ages in the U.S, and in 2017 accounted for 11.9% of all deaths by injury, the National Vital Statistics Report and Center for Health Statistics report. Accidents represent a massive cost in economics with 12.5 million in damages within 2018 from statistics from National Safety Council. These statistics indicate need for thorough investigation into reduction of accidents in our society. This thesis focuses on that need, with introduction of a novel predictive model based on historical
accident occurrence in Hamilton County, Tennessee. The use of weather forecasts, roadway geometrics, and aggregated variables aids in creation of predictions for future
accident occurrence. Additionally, an application is presented for use by local law enforcement and emergency services to assist resource deployment based upon predictions.

▼ Non-fatal occupational injury (NFOI) and its risk factors have become a current global
concern. The need of research towards the relationship between occupational injury
and its risk factor is essential, to fulfil the purpose and setting the priority of
implementing safety preventive approaches at workplace. This research intended to
develop a framework of NFOI surveillance by using epidemiological data, noise
exposure data and NFOI data among palm oil mills’ workers. A total of 420
respondents who assigned in operation and processing areas (OP) (n=333) and general
or office workers (n=87) had voluntary participated in this research. A questionnaire
session with respondents was held to obtain epidemiological data and NFOI
information via validated questionnaire. Noise hazard monitoring was executed by
using Sound Level Meter (SLM) for environmental noise monitoring and Personal
Sound Dosimeter for personal noise monitoring. Gathered data were analysed in
quantitative method by using statistical software IBM SPSS Statistic version 21 and a
risk matrix table for injury risk rating evaluation. It was discovered that high noise
exposure level (≥ 85 dB[A]) was significantly associated with non-fatal occupational
injury among OP workers (φ=0.123, p<0.05) with OR=1.87 (95% CI, 1.080-3.235,
p<0.05). Risk rating for reported NFOI was at moderate level, with minor cuts and
scratches were the dominant type of injury (42.6%). Analysis of logistic regression
indicated that working in shift, not wearing protective gloves, health problems such as
shortness of breath and ringing in ears, and excessive noise level (≥ 85 dB[A]) were
the risk factors of NFOI in palm oil mills among OP workers. A framework of nonfatal
injury surveillance in palm oil mills was developed based on the findings with
integration of risk management process and injury prevention principles. This
framework is anticipated to help the management in decision making for preventive
actions and early detection of occupational health effects among workers.

▼ This study focused on analysing the effectiveness of sustainable leadership in Public Enterprises with a special focus on the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund. The study intended to answer the problem of leadership in terms of sustainability in the organisation. The purpose of the study was to explore issues of sustainable leadership in terms of how leaders groom subordinates for the advancement of the organisation. The overall objective was to analyse aspects of leadership and how the transition of leadership was supported with the availability of the succession plan as well as its implementation. This study adopted a mixed method approach; the qualitative approach was used to get the respondents’ knowledge and understanding on the matters concerning the effectiveness of sustainable
leadership. Moreover, interviews were conducted with head of units so as to obtain the necessary information for analysis. The quantitative approach was used and the data collected was tabulated into graphs, pies and charts by using Microsoft excel. In addition, questionnaires comprising of three sections were distributed to the respondents. The findings of the study revealed that in terms of leadership, the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund
is doing the best to involve all employees at all levels, and that corporate governance issues are key to the Board, Management and the entire staff, and every employee is expected to
contribute towards the collective goal of the fund. Moreover, findings revealed that not all employees are exposed to the succession plan except the management and the executive. It
is therefore recommended that more attention has to be given to the coaching and mentoring programme, so that the executive and management are exposed to the skills and abilities for coaching and mentoring for success. The other recommendation is on the aspects of the succession plan, which is that it should be well implemented in a way that it should not be perceived as biased or discriminatory. Due to the limitations of the present research, further research can be explored in the same areas with a comparative approach of different public enterprises.

System thinking concepts and simulation tools are used to model the risk prevention plan and operational modes designed to enforce safety constraints at a French liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage and distribution facility. In France, such facilities are classified and the subject of special legislation and safety regulations. Their supervision is the responsibility of a control and regulatory body. A technological risk and prevention plan is provided, where all the dangerous phenomena likely to occur in addition to the safety control measures are listed in the safety report. Safety is therefore addressed through rules, and control mechanisms ensure that the system complies with safety constraints. Taking this facility as a case study, we use the STAMP theoretical framework together with AnyLogic simulation software to model technical elements and human and organizational behavior. We simulate how the system evolves over time and the strategies that are deployed in a loss of control scenario. The aim is to assess whether the prescribed safety program covers all of the system's phases; namely operations and audits. The results enrich other research that focuses on the contribution of system dynamics to risk analysis and accident prevention.

▼ Accident in fiction is always inevitable. When a character in a novel suffers a car
accident, for example, the
accident is the effect of the author's intentions, and therefore it is not accidental. The words and images that constitute the meanings and events of the text do not change. The accidents in the narrative always happen the same way, reading after rereading. Drawing from this observation, the question that Narrative at Risk attempts to answer is, in its simplest iteration: how can narrative accurately represent
accident when its textual representation is not
subject to the effects of
accident? I ask this of a number of American cultural objects that were produced over the last fifty years, from the assassination of President John F. Kennedy to the present. Narrative at Risk interrogates representations of
accident primarily in novels and films – but also in television, roleplaying games, comic strips, and videogames – in order to examine how contemporary American culture ascribes meaning to the accidental. I read a wide array of accidents – from mechanical failures to failed suicides, depictions of biological evolution to games of chance – as providing a broad but nonetheless coherent understanding of how American society has conceived of
accident in relation to individuals, communities, and the species as a whole. Narrative at Risk, in treating media such as film, television, and videogames alongside literature, broadens our understanding of how
accident developed as a danger over the past fifty years, as well as how various media influenced and shaped one another through borrowed reading practices. In the introduction, I focus on the crystallization of the mass media that brought traumatic events into American homes again and again, specifically, the moment of President John F. Kennedy's assassination and the epistemological and ontological crises this event and its media coverage initiated. The first chapter reads the role of this mediation and the crises of the 1960s as they jointly inform representations of accidental mechanical failure. Through readings of four texts, I theorize a politics of
accident, taking as my initial
subject what Ronald Reagan called his most formative moment: his role as a train
accident victim in King's Row: 1941), and his discussion of this role in his 1965 memoir Where's the Rest of Me? I delineate how Reagan's obsession with narrating
accident later shaped a politics of the
accident in texts such as David Cronenberg's film Crash: 1996), Don DeLillo's novel White Noise: 1985), Colson Whitehead's novel The Intuitionist: 1999), and Rockstar Game's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: 2004). The subsequent chapter shifts from the first's broad historical range to texts composed and published at the end of the Cold War: Paul Auster's novel Leviathan: 1992); Jeffrey Eugenides's novel The Virgin Suicides: 1993); and "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man": 1996) an episode of the television show The X-Files: 1993-2002). I read the failure of suicide attempts in these texts as…

▼ Background: Road traffic
accident is one of the top ten leading causes of death in world-wide. Every year 1.35 million peoples around the world die as a result of road traffic collisions. It‟s the result of contribution of many factors including environmental, vehicle and human factors and from all factors human factors contribute the major role for the cause of road traffic
accident. There is no much evidence how the personality of drivers affects driving behavior and as well as its contribution on
accident.
Objective: To assess the relationship between of personality and risky driving behavior and their role on road traffic accidents among the public transport drivers in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 2019.
Methods: Institutional based cross sectional study design was conducted from January 01 to February 30, 2019 G.C. Using random selection three hundred seventy seven public transport drivers were selected from operated terminals. Data were collected by trained data collectors through interview using standardized questionnaire. The collected data were entered in Epi-data version 3.1 software and exported to Stata version 14.0 statistical software for analysis. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regressions were used to know the final predictors with a cut of point of P-value < 0.05 level of significance. Structural equation modeling program was applied to assess the relationship between personality and risky driving behaviors.
Result: Totally 374 drivers participated in the study with response rate of 99.2%. The overall magnitude of risky driving behavior the study participants was 49%. Those had anger personality and speeding behavior had increased odds of road traffic
accident. Two of personality trait were found positively significant with risky driving behaviors, driver anger (β = 0.24, P= 0.000) and sensational seeking (β = 0.13, P=0.000) with 58% total variance. Both personality and risky driving behaviors directly predicted road traffic
accident with 23% of variance.
Conclusion and recommendation: The findings of the study show, anger and speeding had important contributor to
accident and personality had significant association with risky driving behavior. And both personality and risky driving behavior had strong effect
accident. And transport authority should design strategy and promote that helps to reduce speeding
