The subject of this thesis is the search for new charged bosons beyond the predictions of the Standard Model. The existence of new heavy charged vector bosons is investigated in events containing a muon and neutrino pair. Neutrinos are observed indirectly via the presence of high missing transverse energy. We analyze data from proton-proton collisions at center of mass energy of 8 TeV, collected by the ATLAS detector during the operation of the Large Hadron Collider in the years 2011-2012, corresponding to an overall luminosity of20.3 fb-1.Two main new-physics scenarios are investigated: The first new-physics scenario that is considered in this thesis is the Sequential Standard Model (SSM). This model proposes the existence of additional heavy gauge bosons, of which the charged ones are commonly denoted as W′. The W′ has the same couplings to fermions as the Standard Model W boson and a width that increases linearly with the W′ mass.The second new-physics scenario that is considered proposes the existence of charged partners, denotedW*, an excited state of the Standard Model W boson. The anomalous (magnetic-moment type) coupling of the W* leads to kinematic distributions significantly different from those of the W′.Α strict data event selection is applied in order to reduce the background, which comes mainly from W boson decays. All background sources were simulated, except the multijet background, which was estimated from the experimental data. Finally, all sources of systematic uncertainty are carefully evaluated.The analysis of data showed that the number of events observed is consistent with the number of background events expected, so there is no evidence for the existence of new, heavy charged gauge bosons. Therefore, limits are set to the σ * B (cross-section * branching ratio) for W 'and W * in the mass range of 0.5 - 4 TeV.In the analysis presented in this thesis, the limits are considerably improved in the region covered by the previous search.

Πολλά μοντέλα φυσικής πέρα από το Καθιερωμένο Πρότυπο προβλέπουν την ύπαρξη νέων βαρέων φορτισμένων διανυσματικών μποζονίων. Αντικείμενο της παρούσας διατριβής είναι η αναζήτηση της ύπαρξης νέων φορτισμένων μποζονίων πέρα από τις προβλέψεις του Καθιερωμένου Προτύπου, και, κατ’ επέκταση, η επιβεβαίωση ή διεύρυνση αυτού. Ενδείξεις για την ύπαρξη νέων βαρέων φορτισμένων διανυσματικών μποζονίων αναζητούνται μέσω της διάσπασής τους σε μιόνιο και νετρίνο. Η ανίχνευση του νετρίνο γίνεται έμμεσα μέσω της ανίχνευσης σημαντικής εγκάρσιας ελλείπουσας ενέργειας. Resumo: Os fungos são elementos importantes e essenciais no nosso meio ambiente e cotidiano. Com mais de 100 mil espécies descritas e uma estimativa de que existam até 1,5 milhão, eles são responsáveis pela decomposição e degradação da matéria orgânica. Sua importância vai muito além das doenças que podem causar em plantas e animais, sendo utilizados na indústria, como na produção de medicamentos, enzimas e alimentos. O estudo dos fungos se mostra importante devido à sua amplitude de atuação no ambiente. Fazer o estudante compreender essa importância pode contribuir para que o mesmo consiga relacioná-lo ao seu contexto social e aplicar esse conhecimento, de maneira que possibilite seu desenvolvimento educacional, profissional e social. No entanto, o conteúdo sobre fungos nos currículos do ensino médio ainda se mostra limitado e voltado para memorização, fazendo-se necessária uma atualização nas metodologias propostas. Dessa forma, o presente trabalho teve a finalidade de elaborar um atlas sobre fungos, desenvolvido com base nos resultados obtidos após aplicação de um questionário a professores de Ciências e Biologia do município de Carlópolis-PR. Dez professores responderam 20 perguntas sobre o ensino de fungos. As repostas mais encontradas mostraram a importância do ensino desse conteúdo nos anos finais do Ensino Fundamental e no Ensino Médio, além das dificuldades de elaboração de aulas práticas, falta de laboratórios e acesso a tecnologias digitais. A partir das respostas obtidas, foram selecionados diversos gêneros de fungos comumente encontrados no ambiente e, por meio de técnicas microbiológicas, os fungos isolados foram caracterizados morfologicamente. Após fotografar e identificar as características macro e microscópicas, foi elaborado um atlas, que evidenciou as diferentes morfologias, a diversidade fúngica e a importância dos gêneros descritos. O material produzido foi disponibilizado aos professores que participaram do projeto, visando à atualização dos mesmos, bem como propiciando aulas mais ilustradas e dinâmicas, estimulando profissionais e estudantes. ▼ Le sujet de cette thèse est la recherche de signaux de physique au-delà du modèle standard,dans le canal de désintégration en deux photons, dans les collisions proton-proton enregistrées par le détecteur ATLAS à des énergies dans le centre de masse de √s = 8 TeV en 2012 et√s = 13 TeV en 2015 et 2016.Une étude de faisabilité de la recherche d’un boson pseudo-scalaire A se désintégrant en un boson Z et un boson de Higgs d’une masse de 125 GeV est présentée. Cette étude est effectuée dans le contexte de modèles prédisant deux doublets de Higgs. L’état final recherché est constitué de deux jets hadroniques et deux photons et les données utilisées sont celles enregistrées en 2012 `a √s = 8 TeV, correspondant `a une luminosité intégrée de 20.3 fb−1. La sensibilité attendue est comparable `a celle atteinte avec une autre recherche effectuée dans la collaboration ATLAS, basée sur l’état final constitué d’une paire d’électrons ou muons et d’une paire de leptons τ . En revanche, elle est inférieure à celle des études dans lesquelles le Higgs est recherché dans sa désintégration en une paire de quarks beaux.La recherche de nouvelles résonances de haute masse se désintégrant en deux photons dans les collisions `a 13 TeV est également présentée. Les échantillons analysés correspondent à des luminosités intégrées de 3.2 fb−1 en 2015 et 12.2 fb−1 en 2016. Deux études sont développées :l’une est optimisée pour la recherche, aussi générale que possible, d’une particule de spin 0; la seconde cible une particule de spin 2 telle que le graviton prédit par le modèle de Randall-Sundrum. Une attention particulière est portée `a la compréhension et la paramétrisation de la forme de la résonance dans l’hypothèse où celle-ci aurait une largeur naturelle non négligeable.L’analyse des données enregistrées en 2015 conclut `a l’observation d’un léger excès autour d’une masse de 750 GeV, d’une largeur d’environ 45 GeV, et dont la significativité statistique locale est estimée à 3,9 et 3,8 écarts standard selon le spin de la résonance recherchée. La significativité globale est estimée à 2,1 écarts standard. L’analyse des données enregistrées en 2016 ne mène à l’observation d’aucun excès significatif. Des limites sur le produit de la section efficace de production d’une résonance par le taux de désintégration en deux photons sont établies : pour une résonance de spin nul, elles vont de 12 fb (51 fb) `a une masse de 200 GeV `a 0,2 fb (0,3 fb)`a 2400 GeV, dans l’hypothèse d’une largeur naturelle de 4 MeV (10% de la masse). Une étude de la reconnaissance des photons se convertissant en une paire électron-positon avant d’interagir avec les calorimètres, basée sur la forme de la gerbe électromagnétique détectée est également documentée. Cette thèse porte sur l'étude de la production de paire de dibosons WZ au en collisions proton-proton au LHC avec le détecteur ATLAS.La première mesure de la polarisation des bosons vecteurs W et Z lors de leur production par paire a été effectuée et la section efficace de production de dibosons WZ mesurée.Les données des collisions des protons au LHC à une énergie de 13 TeV enregistrées avec le détecteur ATLAS en 2015 et 2016 avec une luminosité intégré de 36.1fb-1 ont été analysées.L'analyse prends en compte seulement des désintégrations des bosons W et Z en électrons et muons.Avec la quantité des données disponibles, la précision de la mesure n'est plus déterminée par l'incertitude statistique. Une précision de 4.4 % a été obtenue, qui est comparable à la précision obtenue par une mesure antérieures avec les données d'ATLAS à une énergie de collision de 8 TeV.La précision de la mesure est déterminé par l'estimation du bruit du fond, du taux d'empillement et de l’efficacité d'identification des électrons et muons.Dans le cadre de cette thèse, des études détaillées ont été menées sur l'estimation de l’efficacité d'identification des électrons, sur l'optimisation de la sélection des leptons dans le cadre de l'analyse WZ et sur l'estimation du bruit du fond réductible.L’efficacité d'identification des électrons a été déterminée avec une méthode dite de Tag et Probe utilisant la désintégration de bosons Z en deux électrons.Les propriétés d'isolation des électrons ont été utilisées pour discriminer le signal des électrons du bruit du fond.L'accord de la mesure de l’efficacité d'identification avec la simulation a été étudié et des facteurs de correction ont été estimés.Ces facteurs de correction ont été mis à la disponibilité de la collaboration ATLAS.La sélection des leptons dans le cadre de la mesure WZ a été optimisée pour rejeter le bruit de fond réductible. Le bruit du fond réductible restant a été estimé avec une méthode dite matricielle qui s'appuie sur les données.La valeur de la section efficace mesurée est supérieure de 8 % par rapport a la valeur prédite par les calculs théoriques les plus récents ayant une précision à l'ordre NNLO, mais reste néanmoins compatible avec ces prédictions.Une mesure de la polarisation dans les événement dibosons est effectuée par la première fois.Les distributions angulaires des produits de désintégration sont particulièrement sensible aux effets de la polarisation.Les fractions de bosons W et Z produits avec un état de polarisation longitudinale sont mesurées pour la première fois, à une valeur de 25 % avec une incertitude de 7 et 4 %, respectivement.Cela représente une précision de l'ordre de 15 %, dominée par l'incertitude statistique.

Les images angiographiques sont utilisés pour différentes tâches comme le diagnostique, le suivie de pathologies et la planification d'interventions chirurgicales. Toutefois, en raison du faible ratio signal sur bruit et le contenu complexe des données (informations clairsemées), l'analyse des images angiographiques est une tâche fastidieuse et source d'erreurs. Ces différentes considérations ont motivé le développement de nombreuses techniques d'analyse.Les travaux de cette thèse s'organisent autour de deux axes de recherches : d'une part la segmentation des images angiographiques, et d'autre part la modélisation des réseaux vasculaires cérébraux. En segmentation, l'automatisation induit généralement un coût de calcul élevé, alors que les méthodes interactives sont difficiles à utiliser en raison de la dimension et de la complexité des images. Ces travaux présentent un compromis entre les deux approches, en utilisant le concept de segmentation à base d'exemple. Cette stratégie qui utilise les arbres de coupes de façon non standard,conduit à des résultats satisfaisant, lorsqu'elle est appliqué sur des données d'ARM cérébrales 3D. Les approches existantes, en modélisation, reposent exclusivement sur des informations relatives aux vaisseaux. Ces travaux ont exploré une nouvelle voie, consistant à utiliser à la fois les informations vasculaires et morphologiques ( c-à-d structures cérébrales) pour améliorer la précision et la pertinence des atlas obtenus. Les expériences soulignent des améliorations dans les principales étapes du processus de création de l'atlas impacté par l'utilisation de l'information morphologique. Un exemple d'atlas cérébraux a été réalisé.

Angiographie images are useful data for several tasks, e.g., diagnosis, pathology follow-up or surgery planning. However, due to low SNR (noise,artifacts), and complex semantic content (sparseness), angiographie image analysis is a time consurning and error prone task. These consideration have motivated the development of numerous vesse! filtering, segmentation, or modeling techinques.This thesis is organized around two research areas : the segmentation anù the moùeling. Segmentation of cerebral vascular networks from 3D angiographie data remains a challenge. Automation generally induces a high computational cost and possible errors, white interactive methods are hard to use due to the dimension and the complexity of images. This thesis presents a compromise between both approaches by using the concept of example-based segmentation. This strategy, which uses component-trees in a non-standard fashion, leads to promising results, when applied on cerebral MR angiographie data. The generation of cerebrovascular atlases remains a complex and infrequently considered issue. The existing approaches rely on information exclusively related to the vessels. O dialeto caipira, descrito por Amadeu Amaral em 1920, era falado na antiga província de São Paulo até por volta do final do século XIX. Conforme Amaral, o dialeto, que teve grande vigor, vai perdendo terreno a partir das últimas décadas do século XIX, em conseqüência das profundas alterações que se verificam no meio social, estando ?condenado a desaparecer em prazo mais ou menos breve? (Amaral 1920 / 1982: 42). A previsão de Amaral, todavia, não parece ter se concretizado. Em 1974, Rodrigues (1974) atesta a vitalidade do dialeto na região de Piracicaba. Retomando essa linha de investigação, nosso estudo procura verificar a presença de traços fonéticos e lexicais do dialeto caipira em Minas Gerais e no Paraná, com base nos dados do Esboço de um atlas lingüístico de Minas Gerais (Ribeiro et alii 1977) e do Atlas lingüístico do Paraná (Aguilera 1994). As duas áreas são relevantes para essa investigação pela sua proximidade geográfica com São Paulo e pelas relações históricas que envolvem os paulistas no processo de povoamento desses dois Estados vizinhos. Quanto ao nível fonético, nosso estudo se concentrou em cinco variantes: o ?r caipira? ou retroflexo em final de sílaba e em posição intervocálica; o rotacismo da lateral em final de sílaba e em encontro consonantal; o apagamento do /r/ em final de palavra; a iotização da lateral palatal; a redução da proparoxítona. Quanto ao nível lexical, foram exploradas as possibilidades específicas de cada um dos atlas examinados (ex.: cambota, cuitelo, arco-da-velha). Analisado o corpus, constatamos a ocorrência das cinco variantes fonéticas mencionadas, tanto em Minas como no Paraná. Quatro dessas variantes ? o rotacismo, a apócope do /r/, a iotização da lateral palatal e a redução da proparoxítona ? mostraram uma distribuição mais geral nas áreas estudadas. Somente o ?r caipira? exibe o caráter de uma variante mais propriamente geográfica no interior de cada território estudado, ocorrendo em áreas que refletem a influência paulista, ou por se encontrarem próximas a São Paulo, e/ou porque historicamente correspondem a áreas de penetração dos paulistas. A ocorrência simultânea das outras variantes fonéticas estudadas e de variantes lexicais nessas áreas contribui para caracterizá-las de forma mais consistente como possíveis áreas de resistência do dialeto caipira. Pesquisas complementares focalizando outras variantes do dialeto caipira poderão verificar a consistência dessa caracterização

▼ ATLAS is a particle physics experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) that detects proton-proton collisions at a centre of mass energy of 14 TeV. The Semiconductor Tracker is part of the Inner Detector, implemented using silicon microstrip detectors with binary read-out, providing momentum measurement of charged particles with excellent resolution. The operation of the LHC and the ATLAS experiment started in 2010, with ten years of operation expected until major upgrades are needed in the accelerator and the experiments. The ATLAS tracker will need to be completely replaced due to the radiation damage and occupancy of some detector elements and the data links at high luminosities. These upgrades after the first ten years of operation are named the Phase-II Upgrade and involve a re-design of the LHC, resulting in the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). This thesis presents the work carried out in the testing of the ATLAS Phase-II Upgrade electronic systems in the future strips tracker after 2023, to be installed for operations in the HL-LHC period. The high luminosity and number of interactions per crossing that will happen after the HL-LHC starts require a complete replacement of the ATLAS tracker. The systems that have been defined for the Phase-II Upgrade will be designed to cope with that increased radiation and have the right granularity to maintain the performance with higher pile-up. In this thesis I present results on single modules and larger structures comprising multiple modules. The single modules are built using silicon microstrip sensors with four rows of 1280 strips. The read-out of the strips is done using 128 channel chips, glued and bonded on a hybrid circuit that holds 20 chips. Two hybrids are glued to the sensor to read-out all its strips. In addition to the new sensors and read-out chips, the specifications for the ATLAS Phase-II Upgrade programme require a different powering scheme in the strips tracker than the current ATLAS Semiconductor Tracker. Two approaches have been proposed, which are serial powering and Direct Current to Direct Current (DC-DC) conversion. The decision on which will be used is not final yet, pending the results on efficiency and performance of the tracker using both of them. Larger structures are constructed by mounting the single modules on a bus tape that carries the signals to one end of the structure, which interfaces with the tracker read-out systems. The bus tape is glued on a structure that provides mechanical support and cooling. All the modules on a structure are read-out through the same interface, aggregating multiple signals in one physical channel. The structures are called staves or stavelets. The latter typically mount four modules on a side of the structure. Two different stavelets have been tested in the context of this thesis, one with serial powering and one with DC-DC conversion. No obstante, el SM no se considera la teoría fundamental definitiva ya que existe evidencia de Nueva Física imposible de describir con el SM como la existencia de Materia Oscura, la asimetría entre materia y antimateria del Universo, las masas de los neutrinos o el problema de la jerarquía. Por lo tanto, el SM necesita, o bien una extensión, o bien ser incluido en una teoría más completa. Varias hipótesis se han desarrollado en esta dirección, entre las que destaca la Supersimetría (SUSY). Se ha demostrado que SUSY es la única extensión posible de las simetrías espacio-temporales conocidas en las interacciones de partículas y que podría, si existe, resolver muchos de los problemas del SM. La característica clave de la fenomenología de SUSY es la predicción de “spartículas” (partículas supersimétricas). Cada partícula del SM tiene una compañera supersimétrica de la que difiere en spin en 1/2. De momento, ningún experimento ha observado estas supercompañeras, lo cual indica que SUSY tendría que ser una simetría rota, por lo que las spartículas deberían ser más masivas que sus compañeras del SM. Puesto que se sabe muy poco sobre el mecanismo de ruptura y del espectro de masa de las nuevas partículas, las posibles señales de SUSY pueden ser muy diversas dependiendo del modelo particular que se considere. Para producir partículas muy pesadas (como las que predice SUSY) se necesitan colisiones a altísimas energías. Para ello se utilizan aceleradores que pueden incrementar la energía de dos haces de partículas y hacerlos colisionar. El Gran Colisionador Hadrónico (LHC), operado por el Laboratorio Europeo de Física de Partículas (CERN), es uno de estos aceleradores en el que se producen colisiones entre protones. Con su energía en el centro de masas y su luminosidad sin precedentes, ofrece unas condiciones excelentes para la búsqueda de nuevas partículas con masas del orden de TeV. Varios detectores de grandísimas dimensiones observan y registran los resultados de estas colisiones. Entre ellos se encuentra ATLAS, uno de los cuatro detectores de más envergadura del LHC. One of the main goals of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva is the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. In 2011, proton-proton collisions were performed at the LHC at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb^-1 was recorded. This dataset can be tested for one of the most promising theories beyond limits achieved thus far: supersymmetry. Final states in supersymmetry events at the LHC contain highly energetic jets and sizeable missing transverse energy. The additional requirement of events with highly energetic leptons simplifies the control of the backgrounds. This work presents results of a search for supersymmetry in the inclusive dilepton channel. Special emphasis is put on the search within the Gauge-Mediated Symmetry Breaking (GMSB) scenario in which the supersymmetry breaking is mediated via gauge fields. Statistically independent Control Regionsrnfor the dominant Standard Model backgrounds as well as Signal Regions for a discovery of a possible supersymmetry signal are defined and optimized. A simultaneous fit of the background normalizations in the Control Regions via the profile likelihood method allows for a precise prediction of the backgrounds in the Signal Regions and thus increases the sensitivity to several supersymmetry models. Systematic uncertainties on the background prediction are constrained via the jet multiplicity distribution in the Control Regions driven by data. The observed data are consistent with the Standard Model expectation. New limits within the GMSB and the minimal Supergravity (mSUGRA) scenario as well as for several simplified supersymmetry models are set or extended.

Eines der wesentlichen Ziele des ATLAS-Experiments am Large Hadron Collider (LHC) am CERN in Genf ist die Suche nach neuer Physik jenseits des Standardmodells. Im Jahr 2011 wurden dazu am LHC Proton-Proton-Kollisionen bei einer Schwerpunktsenergie von 7 TeV durchgeführt und eine integrierte Luminosität von 4.7 fb^-1 aufgezeichnet. Die gewonnenen Daten ermöglichen es, eine der vielversprechendsten Theorien jenseits bisher erreichter Grenzen zu testen: Die Supersymmetrie. Endzustände in Supersymmetrie-Ereignissen am LHC sind gekennzeichnet durch hochenergetische Jets und erhebliche fehlende Transversalenergie. Die zusätzliche Forderung nach Ereignissen mit hochenergetischen Leptonen vereinfacht das Kontrollieren der Untergründe. Die Arbeit präsentiert Ergebnisse zur Suche nach Supersymmetrie im inklusiven Dilepton-Kanal. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der Suche innerhalb des Gauge-Mediated Symmetry Breaking (GMSB)-Szenarios, in dem die Supersymmetrie-Brechung durch Eichfelder vermittelt wird.
