▼ In dieser Arbeit wurde eine Vorarbeit von [Kunert et al., 2010] aufgegriffen und für den Vergleich mehrerer Behandlungen mit einer Kontrolle im einfachen Blockmodell mit AR(1)-korrelierten Fehlern untersucht, wo sich die Stelle befindet, an der das Maximum über alle H-Funktionen seinen kleinsten Wert annimmt. Das Auffinden dieser Stelle ist deshalb so bedeutsam, da sich durch sie zumindest eine Untergrenze für das Atc-Kriterium ermitteln lässt und sie in manchen Fällen sogar über die Gestalt des optimalen Versuchplans Auskunft gibt. Bei dieser Untersuchung wurde dabei von denselben grundlegenden Annahmen ausgegangen, die auch [Kunert et al., 2010] in ihrem Artikel voraussetzten: So wurde insbesondere nur die Situation betrachtet, in der die Anzahl der Behandlungen v mindestens so groß ist wie die Blocklänge k und die Fehler zudem nicht-negativ und auch nicht perfekt korreliert sind, der Korrelationsparameter λ des autoregressiven Prozesses also im Bereich [0, 1) liegt. In Kapitel 3 konnte mit einer alternativen Darstellung der Sequenzen schnell gezeigt werden, dass nur solche Sequenzen für diese Suche überhaupt von Relevanz sein können, die Kontrollen nie in direkter Folge einsetzen und den Einsatz einer Kontrolle auf einem der beiden Randfelder der Sequenz nach Möglichkeit vermeiden. Durch diese Erkenntnis und die Vorarbeit von [Kunert et al., 2010] ließ sich die Zahl der zu betrachtenden Sequenzen erheblich reduzieren und es konnte nachgewiesen werden, dass für jede bestimmte Anzahl von Kontrollen z mit z = k 2 jeweils nur eine einzige Sequenz s(z) als Repräsentant der ganzen Klasse betrachtet werden muss. Bei der anschließenden näheren Betrachtung des Verhaltens dieser verbleibenden Sequenzen in den Kapiteln 4 und 5 stellte sich heraus, dass die zu ihnen gehörenden H-Funktionen im Intervall [-1, 0], das - wie Vorüberlegungen zeigten - überhaupt den einzig interessanten Bereich abdeckt, besonderen Gesetzmäßigkeiten folgen: Die Scheitelpunkte x(z) dieser Funktionen liegen alle in diesem Bereich und zwar in der immer gleichen Reihenfolge x(0), x(1), x(2) und so weiter. Je zwei dieser Funktionen schneiden sich in diesem Intervall genau einmal. Für die Schnittpunkte xj|j+1 zweier Sequenzen s(j) und s(j+1) konnte dabei gezeigt werden, dass diese Schnitte umso weiter links im Intervall liegen, je größer j ist, also die Reihenfolge x0|1 > x1|2 > x2|3 usw. gilt. Diese Erkenntnisse vereinend und dabei die Tatsache berücksichtigend, dass es sich bei allen HFunktionen um nach oben geöffnete Parabeln handelt, ließ sich damit weiter zeigen, dass es für all diese Sequenzen jeweils ein Teilintervall gibt, auf dem die jeweilige Sequenz allen anderen überlegen ist, und dass diese Intervalle umso weiter rechts liegen, je kleiner die Zahl der eingesetzten Kontrollen in der Sequenz. Mit diesem neu gewonnenen Wissen konnte daraufhin ein konstruktives Verfahren hergeleitet werden, mit dem sich schnell und mit nur wenigen Funktionsauswertungen die gesuchte Optimalstelle finden lässt. Das Auffinden dieser Stelle ist deshalb so bedeutsam, da sich durch sie zumindest eine Untergrenze für das Atc-Kriterium ermitteln lässt und sie in manchen Fällen sogar über die Gestalt des optimalen Versuchplans Auskunft gibt. Bei dieser Untersuchung wurde dabei von denselben grundlegenden Annahmen ausgegangen, die auch [Kunert et al., 2010] in ihrem Artikel voraussetzten: So wurde insbesondere nur die Situation betrachtet, in der die Anzahl der Behandlungen v mindestens so groß ist wie die Blocklänge k und die Fehler zudem nicht-negativ und auch nicht perfekt korreliert sind, der Korrelationsparameter λ des autoregressiven Prozesses also im Bereich [0, 1) liegt. In Kapitel 3 konnte mit einer alternativen Darstellung der Sequenzen schnell gezeigt werden, dass nur solche Sequenzen für diese Suche überhaupt von Relevanz sein können, die Kontrollen nie in direkter Folge einsetzen und den Einsatz einer Kontrolle auf einem der beiden Randfelder der Sequenz nach Möglichkeit vermeiden. ▼ Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Abhängigkeitsmodellierung im Kreditportfolio. Mit der Einführung von Basel II (1. Januar 2007) wird die Annahme der a priori stochastischen Unabhängigkeit von Finanztiteln im Kreditportfolio fallen gelassen, da sich in der Realität Ausfallereignisse zweier Schuldner gegenseitig beeinflussen bzw. gemeinsame Ursachen für den Ausfall von Krediten existieren, was eine Unterschätzung der Soll-Kapitalanforderung zur Folge hat. In zunehmendem Maße hat sich der Bedarf an dieser Abhängigkeitsmodellierung auf statistische Modelle fokussiert. Dabei stellt die Korrelation von Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeiten eine Herausforderung bei der statistischen Modellierung dar. Kreditderivate kommen als wichtige Messungen für die Quantifizierung von Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeiten in Frage. Innerhalb des Marktes für Kreditderivate sind CDS (Credit Default Swaps) die wichtigsten, verbreitetsten und einfachsten Produkte und bilden die wesentliche und relevante Information für das Kreditgeschäft ab. Sie haben außerdem den Vorteil, dass sie sich kaum durch Illiquidität beeinflussen lassen. Aus den CDS-Kursen wird deshalb die Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeitskorrelation ermitteln. In Krisenzeiten scheinen Korrelationen im Portfolio instabil zu sein und müssen deshalb sorgfältig modelliert werden. Panel-Regressionen werden hier vorgeschlagen, um eine adäquate Schätzung dieser Schlüsselgröße zu geben. Dabei bewirken die zufälligen unternehmensspezifischen und zeitspezifischen Effekte, dass CDS-Prämien über die Zeit beziehungsweise über Unternehmen korreliert sind. Angesicht der Bedeutung dieser zufälligen Effekte (da sie einen direkten Einfluss auf die Korrelation haben) werden unterschiedliche Methoden zur Schätzung von Modellparametern, nämlich die Maximum-Likelihood- und restringierte Maximum-Likelihood-Methode sowie die Bayesianische Methode eingesetzt. Neben der Normalverteilung wird eine Polya-Baum-Mischung-Verteilung für die zufälligen Effekte angenommen, sodass Einflüsse von restriktiven parametrischen Modellen auf Schlussfolgerungen vermieden werden können. Die Fehler werden außerdem durch einen autoregressiven Prozess modelliert. Unter dieser Annahme wird die Existenz von Maximum-Likelihood- und restringierten Maximum-Likelihood-Schätzern in der Arbeit untersucht. Desweiteren werden Formeln für die Berechnung der Korrelation im Kontext der Panel-Regressionen, die stilisierten Fakten der Abhängigkeit gerecht werden, hergeleitet. Als Modell für die Schätzung von Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeitskorrelationen wird ein dynamisches Modell mit zufälligen zeitspezifischen Effekten vorgeschlagen. Die resultierenden Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die CDS-Prämien einzelner Banken sowohl untereinander, als auch über die Zeit – und zwar mit einer Querschnittkorrelation von 0,36 sowie einer Ein-Tages-Abhängigkeit von 0,70 – signifikant und hoch korreliert sind. Denne masteroppgaven undersøker utviklingen av fjernsynsmagasinet Puls sett i lys av allmennkringkastingsoppdraget til NRK. Prosjektet spør hvordan forbruker- og livsstilssemner blir transformert til populære og underholdende former i fjernsynet, samt hvordan dette lar seg kombinere med NRKs allmennkringkastingsoppdrag. Metodisk har jeg gjennomført en kvantitativ innholdsanalyse av 44 av Puls’ fjernsynssendinger fra 2002 – 2012, samt latt fire innslag fra programmet bli gjenstand for en kritisk diskursanalyse. I tillegg har jeg gjennomført en kort kvalitativ innholdsanalyse av NRKs nettsider for helse, forbruk og livsstil. Basert på disse undersøkelsene konkluderer jeg med at Puls har en høy grad av tematisk bredde, både hva gjelder sammensetningen innenfor de enkelte program og sammensetningen totalt sett. Puls har gitt helsebegrepet en romslig definisjon, som inkluderer mer enn sykdom og helsesektoren. Programmet utvikler også innhold med høy kvalitet og kredibilitet, gjennom bruk av eksperter og forskningsresultater. Med programmer som Puls kan NRK hente sin samfunnsmessige legitimitet ikke bare fra publikum som borgere, men også som forbrukere, pasienter og privatpersoner. Oppgaven konkluderer med at Puls harmoniserer med NRKs allmennkringkastingsoppdrag på flere ulike områder.

This thesis sets out to map the development of the television magazine Puls in light of NRKs obligations as a public service broadcaster. The project seeks to analyse how consumer and everyday topics are transformed into popular and entertaining forms through prime time television, and partly on the Internet with its interactive and personalized feautures, and how this can be combined with NRKs public service obligations. Methodologically, I’ve conducted a quantitative content analysis of 44 of Puls' television broadcasts from 2002 to 2012. I’ve also conducted a qualitative content analysis of four different programs from Puls through the method of critical discourse analysis. In addition I’ve completed a short qualitative content analysis of NRK's web portal “Helse, forbruk og livsstil”. Based on these studies, I conclude that Puls has a high degree of thematic breadth, both in terms of composition within the individual program and the composition as a whole. In Puls the definition of health is spacious. The program also develops high-quality content and credibility, through the use of experts and research results. Through television magazines like Puls NRK can collect their social legitimacy not only from the audience as citizens, but also as consumers, patients and private persons. The paper concludes that Puls harmonizes with NRK's public service mission in several different areas.

Denne masteroppgaven er en casestudie av Supernytt, NRK Supers nyhetsprogram for barn. Ved å gjøre en kvantitativ nyhetsanalyse viser jeg hvilke nyhetskategorier som dominerer i Supernytt, og hvordan prioriteringen av disse skiller seg fra nyheter for voksne. Videre gjør jeg en kvalitativ innholdsanalyse av en konstruert nyhetsuke. Fokuset er her på programmets henvendelsesform. I siste del presenteres også resultater fra en fokusgruppe med barn i målgruppen, som gir et bilde av hvordan programmets publikum mottar og tolker programmets nyhetstekster. Oppgaven viser at nyhetskategoriene i Supernytt til en viss grad skiller seg fra voksennyheter. Programmet domineres i hovedsak av underholdende og opplysende nyheter. Videre viser oppgaven at nyhetene i programmet i stor grad er tilrettelagt målgruppen, blant annet ved å benytte seg av beroligende strategier, saker med positiv vinkling, samt bruk av et forenklet språk. Resultatene fra fokusgruppen viste blant annet at publikum var i stand til å gjenfortelle innholdet i nyhetstekstene med stor presisjon. Dette skiller seg fra funn gjort i resepsjonsstudier med et voksent nyhetspublikum, hvor respondentene i langt mindre grad var i stand til å gjenfortelle nyhetstekstenes innhold.

This thesis is a case study of the children’s news program Supernytt, broadcasted on the channel NRK Super, which is a part of The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, NRK. Through a quantitative analysis the thesis examines which news categories dominate in Supernytt, and how these differ from news programmes intended on an adult audience. In part two, a qualitative content analysis of a random news week is presented. The analysis focuses on how the programme addresses its audience. The last part discusses results from a focus group with representatives from the audience. This is intended to describe how the audience receives and interprets the news texts in Supernytt. The thesis shows that the news in Supernytt are greatly facilitated towards their intended audience. This emerges clearly in that the show uses calming strategies, that the news always have a positive angle, and that the hosts and reporters use simplified language when presenting the news. The results from the focus group show that the audience was able to remember and explain the news with great precision. This differs from results from earlier studies with an adult audience, where the viewers were far less able to retell the news.

Denne oppgaven presenterer et kvalitativt studie av bildedelingstjenesten Pinterest. Det er tjenestens brukergrensesnitt, interaksjonsmuligheter, innhold og kjønnsmessige medlemsforskjeller som er utgangspunkt for analyse. For å kunne belyse dette har jeg intervjuet norske brukere av Pinterest. Oppgaven avdekker at interaksjon er en nedprioritert funksjon i grensesnittet og at mellommenneskelig kommunikasjon heller ikke er informantenes motivasjon. Informantenes nettverk er i stor grad basert på mennesker som de fra før ikke deler sosiale bånd med, men som de derimot kan hente inspirasjon fra med bakgrunn i felles interesser. Oppgaven viser at det brukergenererte innholdet hovedsakelig er videreformidling av andre personers bilder. Tjenesten skiller seg slik fra andre sosiale medier hvor bildene ofte er av personlig karakter. Samtidig kan bildedelingen fremstå som et uttrykk for selvrepresentasjon. På grunn av likheter med magasinsjangeren, kan Pinterest oppfattes som et digitalt magasin, med en overvekt av feminint innhold.

This thesis presents a qualitative study of the photo sharing service Pinterest. The analysis emphasis on the user interface, interaction opportunities, content, and gender-related user differences found on the social network site. To illustrate these four main topics, I have interviewed Norwegian users of the service. The thesis reveals that interaction neither is a prioritized feature of the interface, nor is interpersonal communication a motivation for the informants. Furthermore, the interviewees communicate that their networks on Pinterest are mainly consisting of people with whom they share interests, rather than social ties. The thesis also shows that the user-generated content mainly consists of redistribution of other people's photos. In this regard, Pinterest differs from other social media where images are often of a personal nature. At the same time, sharing of interests may appear as an expression of self-representation. Due to similarities with the magazine genre, Pinterest can resemble a digital magazine, typically dominated by feminine subject areas.

Denne masteroppgaven i journalistikk er en undersøkelse av helsestoffet på Dagbladets førstesider i 2011 og 2012. Oppgavens problemstilling er: Hvordan anrettes helsestoffet i Dagbladet for at det skal kunne defineres som ”godt stoff” og forsidemateriale? For å besvare problemstillingen har jeg gjennomført en kvantitativ innholdsanalyse av førstesidene. Jeg har også gjennomført en kvalitativ tekstanalyse. Jeg har brukt teoretiske perspektiver om godt stoff og presentasjon som bakgrunn for analysene. Oppgavens hovedfunn er at mengden helsestoff i Dagbladet er stor, og at det kjennetegnes av tabloidisering, direkte henvendelsesform og ”du”-journalistikk, helsisme som helsediskurs, kropp og sykdom som hovedtema, og illustrasjonsfoto av unge kvinner som bærende bilder til sakene. Funnene avdekker noe om helsejournalistikken i en løssalgsavis, og hvordan virkemidler og elementer brukes bevisst for å anrette og utforme førstesidene som salgsplakater. This master thesis in journalism studies seeks to investigate the health content on the front pages of the Norwegian tabloid newspaper Dagbladet, in the years of 2011 and 2012. The research question of this thesis is; how is health content displayed in Dagbladet, for it to be reckoned as “good content” and front page material? In order to answer the research question quantitative content analyses have been made of the front pages of Dagbladet. In addition, I have made qualitative textual analyses. Theoretical perspectives concerning good content and presentation have been used as a backdrop for the analyses. The main finding is that the amount of health content in Dagbladet is significant. It is characterized by; being conveyed through tabloidization, a direct approach and “you”-journalism, healthism as health discourse, body and illness as the main themes, and illustration photos of young women being the accompaning pictures of the cases. The findings convey how health journalism is implemented in the tabloid press, and how measures and elements are used conciously to design and display the front page as a sale poster. Den moderne journalistikken har alltid hatt to sider. Den har vært en kritisk instans med røtter i massedemokratiet, men den har også vært en del av en kommersiell sfære med røtter i massemarkedet. Derfor har den alltid hatt som et virkemiddel å selge seg selv. De senere år har endring av eierstruktur, digitalisering og skjerpet konkurranse endret mediemarkedene. Studien tar for seg hvordan den økte intensiteten av kommersialisering har påvirket journalistikken. Dette er belyst med casestudier i mediehusene VG i Norge og Aftonbladet i Sverige, begge med løssalgstradisjoner, og begge eid av Schibsted. Forskningen har tatt for seg produktutvikling på papir og nett i 1995-2010, og bygger på dybdeintervjuer med medieledere som tar beslutninger om redaksjonelt innhold og forretningsstrategier. Førstesidene har vært den selgende journalistikkens kjennetegn. Men det er også utviklet et mangfold andre virkemidler for å selge. Det er blant annet synlig i spissing av segmenterte produkter, multiplattformstrategier, og innhold som fremmer lojale kunderelasjoner. Konsepter i markedsføring og salg bygges inn i de redaksjonelle produktene, og journalistikk behandles som en vare. Parallelt med dette er det utviklet nye former for samarbeid mellom redaksjon og markedsavdeling. Det er et spørsmål om ikke dette fører til en ny tolking av presseetikken. Redaksjonenes kultur er også blitt mer markedsorientert. Ut fra journalistikkens idealer er konsekvensene både positive og negative. Den blir fornyet og øker de profesjonelle kravene til utøverne. Samtidig oppstår det spenninger mellom hvilke stoffområder som gir lønnsomme produkter, og prioritering av kritisk dekning av vesentlige samfunnsområder. Medielederne argumenterer for at journalistikken styrkes når den selger godt. Slik mener de at det er samsvar mellom journalistiske mål og markedshensyn, i tråd med løssalgspressens populære tradisjoner. Denne utviklingen møtes med kritikk fra hold som befinner seg utenfor avishusene, og i noen grad fra journalistenes tillitsvalgte. Schibsted påvirker journalistikken ved at konsernets forretningsstrategier danner forutsetninger for mediehusenes strategier. Eieren er pådriver for den markedsorienterte utviklingen. Schibsted bidrar også til en sterkere kobling mellom internasjonale trender og det som skjer av journalistisk utvikling i Norge og Sverige.

Modern journalism has always had two sides. It has been a critical institution with roots in mass democracy, but it has also been part of a commercial sphere with roots in the mass market. As a business, however, it is dependent on financing. Consequently it has been forced to sell itself as a commodity. In recent years changes in ownership structure, digitalization and intensified competition have changed media markets. This study examines how this increased commercial intensity has affected journalism. Two case studies examine the media houses VG in Norway and Aftonbladet in Sweden. Denne oppgaven vurderer debatten vedrørende NRKs nye trafikk- og ruteportal (Dit.no). I forhåndsgodkjenningsprosedyren av Dit.no, fikk aktører mulighet til å uttale seg gjennom en offentlig høring. Oppgaven viser at det er i NRKs interesse å bevare sin oppslutning og legitimitet, mens de kommersielle aktørene ønsker å beholde et fritt marked og er bekymret over NRKs store markedsandel på internett. De norske myndighetene forsøker å regulere for å ivareta begge parters interesser, samtidig som de må forholde seg til EUs regelverk. Studien viser også at forhåndgodkjenningsprosedyren kan hemme NRKs tjenesteutvikling på nye medieplattformer, men samtidig ha en positiv effekt på legitimeringen. De kommersielle aktørenes negative holdning til Dit.no er ikke nødvendigvis knyttet til trafikkportalen som sådan, men kan vel så mye være en protest mot NRKs store markedsandel – nå også på nye medieplattformer.

This thesis assesses the debate concerning the new journey planner (Dit.no) created by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). Within the ex ante test, interested parties can express their opinions of new NRK services through a public consultation process. This thesis shows that NRK's interest is to maintain its legitimacy and to attract large audiences, while the commercial players have an interest in a free market and are worried about the increasing growth of NRKs online presence. The government are trying to regulate to protect the interests of both parties, while they must adhere to the EU regulations. This thesis also shows that the ex ante test may hamper the NRKs development of services on new media platforms, but at the same time have a positive effect on the legitimacy of the public service broadcaster. The commercial actor's negative attitude to Dit.no is not necessarily related to just that service, but that it is yet another free service that helps NRK maintain its predominantly large market share - regardless of the media platform.

Det er stadig snakk om hvordan papiravisene mister sine unge lesere til de umiddelbare nettmediene, og de sosiale mediene. Formålet med denne oppgaven er å studere ungdomers syn og erfaringer knyttet til lokalavisen sin, og hvordan denne skaper samfunnsengasjement og dialog. Videre vil oppgaven undersøke hvorvidt det er smasvar mellom avisredaksjonens oppfatninger av lesernes forventninger, og ungdommens egne erfaringer. Gjennom fokusgrupper med lokale ungdommer kom det frem at ungdommene primært benyttet papiravisen som kilde til lokale nyheter, der ungdomsredaksjonen skapte et relevant og nært innhold. Funnene viser at Pepper sin Facebook-side til dels skapte engasjement via kommentering og likes. Dialog og samtaler rundt innholdet ble skapt når ungdomme oppfattet det relevant og nært. På den annen side viser funnene at mye av kommunikasjonen kun nådde et fåtall av ungdommene, og det var knyttet utfordringer opp mot å skape en to-veis kommunikasjon. Selv om redaksjonen og ungdommene i stor grad hadde samstemte oppfatninger om nyhetetsformidling, danner empirien et annet bilde av nettopplevelser. Når det kommer til Pepper sin Facebook-side som kommunikasjonskanal, er redaksjonens og ungdommenes oppfattelse splittet.

There has been a lot of talk about how the traditional print newspapers are loosing their young readers to the online world. The purpose of this thesis is to study the youths’ views and experiences towards their local newspaper, and how this newspaper spurs dialogue and societal engagement. Furthermore, the study will investigate whether the experiences of the youths and the editors’ perceptions of their readership are in unison. Through focus groups with local youths it became evident that they primarily use the printed newspaper as a source for local news, and that the paper’s youth editors created relevant and local content. The findings suggest that “Pepper’s” Facebook page to some extent managed to create engagement through comments and likes. Dialogue and conversations concerning the content occurred when the youths experienced it as relevant and local. However, the findings indicate that much of the communication only reached a small number of the youths, and that there were challenges tied to creating a two way communication. Even though the editors and the youths to a large degree were in unison about the conveying of the news, the empirical findings of this study create a different picture of their online experiences. In regards to “Pepper’s” Facebook page as a channel for communication, the experiences of the editors and the youths differ.

22. juli 2011 ble dagen vi aldri glemmer. Da bomben gikk av bak regjeringsblokken klokken 15:25:22 ble vi vitne til hendelser som har festet seg på netthinnen. Dette har mediene både skylden og takken for. Selv om de selv ble rammet, måtte de fortest mulig distribuere informasjon gjennom tekst, bilder og video. Denne avhandlingen tar for seg alle fasene som mediene gikk gjennom, fra eksplosjon til rettssak. Hvordan håndterte norske redaksjoner en krise som rammet dem selv? Studien er bygget på kvalitative intervjuer i tre norske redaksjoner: VG, Klassekampen og Hamar Arbeiderblad, med to informanter i hver avis. Analysens hovedfunn viser at journalistene ble like mye rammet og grepet av situasjonens alvor som resten av Norges befolkning. Dette preger møtet med pårørende og gjør at journalistene viser nokså godt varsomhet i dekningen sin. Det kan virke som norske journalister jobbet under et annet journalistisk regime enn det de vanligvis gjør. Analysen fremmer også påstand om at en ny type mediebegivenhet er på vei inn i journalistikken.

July 22nd 2011 was a day we will never forget. When the bomb went off behind the government building at 3:25:22 p.m., we witnessed an event that was to become attached to our prolonged memory. The media deserves both the blame and the gratitude for this accomplishment. Although they were hit, they had to rapidly and constantly distribute information through text, images and video. This thesis addresses all the phases that the media went through; from the explosion to the trial. How well did the Norwegian newsrooms handle a crisis that affected them personally? The study is based on qualitative interviews in three Norwegian newsrooms: VG, Klassekampen and Hamar Arbeiderblad, with two informants from each newspaper. The main finding in the analysis shows that the journalists and the rest of the Norwegian society were equally affected and gripped of the seriousness of the situation. This affected the meetings with dependents and victims, and the journalists demonstrated ethical caution in its coverage. It seems that Norwegian journalists worked under another journalistic regime, during the crisis, than they usually do. The analysis also promotes the claim that a new type of media event is about to rise to the surface in Norwegian journalism.

▼ In environments where diseases such as HIV and AIDS are often taboo, successful awareness and educational interventions must address peoples’ privacy and confidentiality concerns. The ubiquity and low cost of Text Message Services (SMS) hold the potential to effectively deliver HIV and AIDS awareness and education by communicating with people in an accessible and engaging manner that both respects their privacy and gives them the tools to make informed choices. This study presents an evaluation of an incentive-based SMS quiz approach designed to improve awareness of HIV and AIDS in Mbarara District, Western Uganda. The goal of deploying HIV and AIDS related quizzes to the target population is to increase people’s awareness and knowledge about the disease, to promote their healthy behaviour and to encourage them to know their health status and seek treatment if necessary. This study employs the domestication of media and technology as a theoretical framework to understand how Text to Change deployed SMS quizzes to improve HIV and AIDS awareness in the selected area of study. Data was collected mainly through in-depth-interviews and observation. The study sought to provide an in-depth analysis of the project which could be linked to theoretical assumptions that explain how mobile-based technologies can be used in HIV and AIDS education and awareness. The paper thus did not aim at generalizing findings but sought to provide illumination, understanding and extrapolation of the findings to similar situations. This qualitative study suggests that text messaging may be a very useful and culturally-relevant platform to support HIV and AIDS education today. In developing countries like Uganda, text messaging have proven effective in targeting hard-to-reach populations especially those in rural areas where the absence of clinics, lack of healthcare workers and limited access to health-related information often prevent people from making informed decisions about their health. While other communication media such as radio, television, voice-based information hotlines and interactive websites can be employed in the service of education about HIV and AIDS issues, SMS stands out as having several advantages over each of these: cost-effectiveness, scalability, convenience, broad reach and widespread popularity in low-income countries. Målet med oppgaven har vært å undersøke hvordan personfokuseringen har utviklet seg i norske medier fra begynnelsen av 1990-tallet frem til 2009. For å besvare oppgavens problemstilling har jeg foretatt en innholdsanalyse av Aftenposten, Verdens Gang, aftenposten.no og VGNett og deres dekning av stortingsvalgkampene i 1993, 2001 og 2009. Analysens hovedfunn er at tendensen til personfokusering er nedadgående i den undersøkte perioden, og på den måten finner jeg ikke full støtte i forventningene om et stadig økt personfokus i pressens politiske stoff. Når det er sagt, er utviklingen forskjellig for de to ulike mediene; personfokuset er nedadgående for de to papiravisene, mens det øker for begge nettavisene. Funnene drøftes i forhold til hvorvidt dette kan bety at nettavisene nærmer seg en tradisjonell tabloidavis’ verbalvisuelle uttrykk. Det krever mer inngående innholdsanalyser for å diskutere papiravisenes forhold mellom saks- og personfokus i dag. Empiriens størrelsesorden begrenser mulighetene for generalisering, men kan representere indikasjoner som forteller noe om «status quo» i den norske politiske nyhetsjournalistikken og valgstoffet generelt, og forhåpentligvis oppfordrer til videre forskning.

In recent years, there has been a perceived shift in news coverage focusing on persons rather than issues or events in the media. This thesis attempts to assess the degree to which the focus on individuals has changed in Norwegian media coverage from the early ‘90’s and up to 2009. The thesis presents the findings of a content analysis of the coverage of the Norwegian parliamentary elections in 1993, 2001 and 2009 in two Norwegian newspapers, Verdens Gang and Aftenposten, as well as their namesake online editions. The analysis reveals that focus on individuals declines in the print editions in the period examined, while the opposite is true for the online editions. The hypothesis that coverage of political issues to a larger degree than before is centered on actors is not unequivocally confirmed, but opens the floor for a discussion of whether or not online newspapers are moving closer to the traditional tabloid format. The findings of the content analysis suggests that press coverage of parliamentary elections is marked by two parallel, and quite media specific, developments, which again may imply that the public service function of the press has changed during the period in question. Due to the limited scope of the data in this thesis, grounds for generalization are somewhat limited. Still, it is reasonable enough to point to fluctuations in the status of Norwegian political news reporting and election coverage and it is my hope that the thesis might inspire further research on the subject.

Denne masteroppgaven undersøker hvordan narrasjon og stil i to episoder fra HBO-serien Six Feet Under tilrettelegger tilskuerens moralske vurdering av protagonistenes narkotikabruk. Six Feet Under kan karakteriseres som et familiedrama, men synes å fremstille sine protagonisters narkotikabruk på en tilsynelatende hverdagslig og ukonvensjonell måte. Oppgaven har et etikkteoretisk utgangspunkt med hovedvekt på den kunstetiske posisjonen moderat moralisme, som vektlegger teksten og hvilke følelsesmessige opplevelser denne gir tilskueren som etisk relevant. Til analysene anvendes modeller hentet fra kognitiv teori – først og fremst Murray Smiths sympatistruktur og Margrethe Bruun Vaages modell for empati – i kombinasjon med forteller- og stilteori og annen teori om fjernsynsseriers narrative struktur. Analysene finner at en sentral narrativ- og stil strategi er å kontrastere tilskuerens emosjonelle engasjement for protagonistene som bruker narkotika fra de protagonister som ikke gjør det. Dette skaper ulike typer allianser og moralske forståelser av karakterene, og dreier seg dels om episodenes anføring av ulike interne verdisystem og ulike narrasjonsformer, men også om hvordan protagonistene som bruker narkotika fremstilles som ”virkelige” mennesker. Måten protagonistene som bruker narkotika fremstilles på gjennom episodenes narrasjon og stil argumenterer jeg for at tilrettelegger en nyansert moralsk forståelse av narkotikabruken.

This thesis look into how narration and style in two episodes from the HBO-series Six Feet Under facilitate the viewers moral assessment of the protagonists drug-use. Six Feet Under can be characterized as a family drama, but seems to communicate their protagonists drug-use in an seemingly unconventional way. The thesis has a point of origin in ethical theory with emphasis on the art-ethical position moderate moralism, which emphasise the narrative text and the spectators emotional perception as of ethical importance. In the analysis, models from cognitive science – mainly Murray Smiths structure of sympathy and Margrethe Bruun Vaages modell for empathy – are combined with narrative and style theory, and other theories on narrative structures in tv-fiction. An essential narrative- and style strategy is to contrast our emotional engagement with the protagonists that use drugs from the protagonists that do not. This creates different types of allegiances and moral understandings of the characters, and is partly because of the episodes use of different internal system of values, and different forms of narration, but also by portraying the characters that use drugs as ”real” human beings. The way protagonists that use drugs are portrayed through narration and style I argue creates an ambiguous moral understanding of the drug-use.
