▼ Velocity mapped imaging (VMI) is used to study the photodissociation and reaction dynamics in both single and crossed molecular beams. In this dissertation the focus of these techniques is on questions of atmospheric importance but the results also contribute to an understanding of reactions that take place by multiple pathways. The first part of the dissertation focuses on the dissociation of ozone in the Huggins band. Velocity - mapped images and O(3P2) yield spectra are analyzed to determine the relative O2 electronic and vibrational populations and to provide an estimation of the rotational population as characterized by a temperature. O2 images are also obtained to gain insight into the REMPI detection of O2 and the spectroscopy of the two lowest Rydberg states of O2, d 1[PI]g and C 3[PI]g. The second part of the dissertation describes the development of a crossed molecular beam apparatus. The apparatus allows for the use of VMI techniques for deactivating and reactive collisions with state-selective detection methods. Initial results for the electronic deactivation of O(
1D) to ground state O(3P) on collision with O2 and N2 are reported. Within the dual-beam apparatus, a delayed detection method is developed to minimize background. In the final part of the dissertation, the vibrational and rotational distribution of NO from the O(
1D) + N2O reaction is determined through analysis of the NO spectra between 220 - 246nm. An explanation is suggested for the differences in NO vibrational distribution observed in our apparatus compared to those of others who have also investigated this reaction.

▼ Class I myosins are monomeric actin-binding, ATP hydrolyzing molecular motors that are expressed in a variety of cell types, and function at the membrane-actin interface. Myosin-
1d, one of eight vertebrate class I myosins, is expressed in polarized cells of the small intestine and nervous system, but subcellular localization and function for the motor remains largely unexplored. Intriguingly, myosin-
1d is coexpressed in epithelial cells of the small intestine with myosin-a, where both motors target to the well-defined apical actin array of the brush border. However, how similar class I motors compartmentalize subcellularly is unknown, and raises the question of functional overlap. Interestingly, we found that myosin-
1d and myosin1a exhibit differential localization and this partitioning can be explained by differential dynamics. Moreover, myosin-
1d redistributes along the microvillar actin bundle in the absence of myosin-1a in MYO1A knockout animals. This suggests that class I myosins do have unique functions in wildtype, but may compensate for loss of activity. Interestingly, our data demonstrates that myosin-
1d has a different subcellular localization in the nervous system. In these polarized cells, myosin-
1d exhibits a punctate distribution in neuronal dendrites, cell bodies, and axons. We observed prominent expression in Purkinje cells and a subset of granule cells, with both patterns developmentally regulated. However, myosin-
1d was not detectable in oligodendrocytes during early development. In the PNS, we observed that myosin-
1d is present in neurons, and myelinating Schwann cells. This suggests a differential role for the motor in myelinating cells between the two nervous systems. Our studies also revealed that myosin-
1d interacts with aspartoacylase, a catalytic enzyme involved in fatty acid synthesis that is widely expressed in similar polarized cells as myosin-
1d. Together, these studies suggest that myosin-
1d has distinct localization patterns in different polarized cell types, but may modulate aspartoacylase activity.

▼ This dissertation focuses on the electrochemical formation of one-dimensional (
1D) Ag nanostructures (in particular nanowires and nanochains) directly on electrode surfaces or gap of two electrodes. Ag nanowires (NWs) and nanorods (NRs) grow directly on glass/indium tin oxide (ITO) surfaces from electrode-attached Au nanoparticle seeds in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) at appropriate potentials with a 5-15 % yield and the average length ranging from 100 nm to 3 µm for growth times of 30 to 120 min. This method failed when trying to grow Ag NRs/NWs across 5 µm Au electrode gaps. Interestingly, applying voltage in air leads to the formation of
1D Ag nanoparticle (Ag NP) chains across the electrode gap in the presence of CTAB and humidity. This is due to an electrochemical process of Ag oxidation at the positive electrode and reduction of Ag
+ at the negative electrode of the gap. The
1D Ag NP chains have interesting resistive switching properties with ON/OFF ratio > 100, endurance cycles of at least 1000 and ms switching speeds, which could find use for memory devices. A device formed by electrodeposition of polyphenol on one electrode and Ag NWs on a second electrode of a 5 µm electrode gap also exhibits resistive switching properties similar to
1D Ag NP chains. Interestingly, the Ag NWs convert into Ag NP chains during the first connection.
1D Ag NP chains formed electrochemically in the presence of CTAB show interesting surface-enhanced Raman and localized surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy that depends on their conductance state.

▼ Na atualidade, metade da população mundial reside nos grandes centros urbanos.
Grande parcela desse crescimento tem ocorrido em países em desenvolvimento. No Brasil, já
se verifica um contingente de cerca de 80% da população residindo nas áreas urbanas.
Neste crescente cenário de urbanização, impactos ambientais e socioeconômicos
decorrentes de eventos hidrológicos têm sido recorrentes, afetando grande parte da população.
O aumento da impermeabilização reduz as taxas de infiltração, que por sua vez leva à
diminuição das taxas de recarga para os aquíferos e à diminuição do escoamento de base. O
escoamento superficial é intensificado, aumentando em velocidade e, a frequência e
magnitude dos picos de cheia, levando ocasionalmente às enchentes.
Nesse contexto, têm sido empregados os telhados verdes em várias partes do mundo
principalmente com finalidades estéticas de valorização do espaço urbano e para melhoria do
conforto ambiental. Essas áreas verdes podem servir também para detenção do escoamento
superficial, minimizando as enchentes urbanas. A simulação da dinâmica da água no solo do
telhado verde realizada no programa Hydrus 1-D, a partir das características do sistema do
teto verde implantado e dados obtidos em campo, proporcionou a caracterização da dinâmica
da água em seu perfil de solo, fornecendo subsídios quanto ao desempenho deste dispositivo
no amortecimento do escoamento superficial oriundo dos telhados

Face à atual conjuntura e às dificuldades que as empresas enfrentam diariamente para se
manterem no ativo, cada vez mais a otimização e rentabilização de recursos é um fator de
grande importância e decisivo.
Nesse sentido, o trabalho a realizar incide na otimização de cortes a 1 dimensão (1-D),
aplicado concretamente à indústria de alumínios, no sentido de minimizar o desperdício de
matéria-prima. Tipicamente o problema consiste em fazer a melhor gestão de corte das barras
de material com dimensão padrão de 6,5 metros em pedaços mais pequenos para aplicação em
portas, janelas, varandas, etc..
O objetivo é produzir uma ferramenta capaz de auxiliar na decisão do melhor plano de corte,
sendo que o utilizador deve ter controlo sobre os resultados que pretende obter. Esta variação,
distingue a solução a implementar de tantas outras que existem atualmente disponíveis, cuja
função objetivo se centra unicamente em minimizar o desperdício de matéria-prima.
Parte do desafio passou por verificar a aplicabilidade de um método, nomeadamente o
algoritmo genético, a um problema concreto e verificar os resultados produzidos. A
implementação final recaiu na utilização da linguagem de programação PHP para a conceção
do algoritmo, HTML e CSS para tratar da apresentação e introdução de dados, sendo
acessível publicamente a partir do endereço http://jrgomes.net/corte1d.
Segundo a opinião do responsável da empresa que lançou o desafio e tem vindo a acompanhar
e a utilizar a solução desenvolvida, os benefícios são claros, apresentando desde logo um
ganho imediato em termos de rentabilidade, que aliado a uma melhor otimização do corte,
face ao processo manual, pode culminar em lucros significativos ao longo do tempo.
A entrada de dados é bastante simples, e normalmente em menos de um segundo, a aplicação
consegue apresentar visualmente as diversas boas soluções de corte, de acordo com o critério
do utilizador.
De salientar que este produto se destina a empresas onde o serralheiro decide a seu belo
prazer, face à experiência ou vícios obtidos ao longo do tempo, como efetuar os diversos
cortes e não a industrias onde existem gabinetes de Engenheiros responsáveis por fazer chegar
ao operador, as relações de corte devidamente otimizadas.

in business, the optimization and maximization of resources is a matter of great importance
and decisive.
Considering this, the work to be done is about the optimization of cuts in 1 dimension (1-D),
specifically applied to the aluminum industry, with the purpose of reducing the waste of raw

reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and to preserve
the environment have been promoted the development of
renewable energy systems which require energy storages to
preserve electric energy. Lithium rechargeable battery is
one of promising storage devices because of high energy
and power density and reliable safety. Ti-based oxides
are attractive candidates for use as an anode for lithium
ion batteries due to low cost, excellent functionality,
non-toxicity, thermal stability, and environmental
friendliness. The morphology, phase formation and
electronic structure of Ti-based oxide materials on the
nanoscale definitely determine their electrochemical
properties in energy storage systems. In this thesis,
one-dimensional nanostructured Ti-based oxides, including
nitrogen-doped TiO2, Ag-Li4Ti5O12 Zr-doped Li4Ti5O12 and
a core-shell
[email protected] fibrous
1D Ag (1.75
at%)-Listructure, were fabricated and their morphology,
phase formation, electronic structure and electrochemical
properties were investigated for application in anodes of
lithium ion batteries.
1D Ag (1.75 at
percent)-Li4Ti5O12 composite nanofibers showed enhanced
specific capacity, rate capability, and cycling stability
compared to bare Li4Ti5O12 nanofibers, due to the Ag
nanoparticles ( Incorporating a small
fraction of Zr4+ ions in the Ti4+ sites of the Li4Ti5O12
led to enhanced lithium ion battery performance, which
was due to the structural distortion through an increase
in the average lattice constant, and thereby, enlarged
Li+ diffusion paths, rather than changes to the
electronic structure. However, insulating ZrO2
nanoparticles that were present between the Li4Ti5O12
grains due to the low Zr4+ solubility had a negative
effect on the Li+ In the case of nitrogen-doped TiO
extraction capacity. In the case of
nitrogen-doped TiO extraction capacity. 2 nanofibers, it
was speculated that substitutional nitrogen would be
spread widely in the bulk, while interstitial nitrogen
atoms were mostly located near the surface. The
nitrogen-doped TiO2 nanofibers showed the improved cyclic
retention and rate capability compared to TiO2
nanopowders and TiO2 nanofibers. This result was due to
higher conductivity and faster Li+ diffusion of the
1D
nanostructure. For core-shell structured
[email protected]/C composite microfibers, the
core-shell composite exhibits high reversible capacity,
excellent rate capability and improved cycle performance

▼ Geo-steering is the process of controlling and adjusting the direction of the drilling bit in a horizontal or deviated well, in real time to keep the drilling in the desired zone. One of the most challenging steps of Geo-steering is the boundary detection, which is to calculate the distance from the bit to upper or lower boundary based on the measured data from an LWD tool. Generally, calculating the distance from bit to boundary is an inversion problem. To speed up the inversion process, a fast forward modeling algorithm is critical.
In this study, the Complex Image Theory applied in finite conductivity layered media is derived to speed up the forward modeling of the geo-steering system. Two approximation results are shown in detail in dealing with the two general cases of dipole radiation. The first one is when the dipole is placed in the relative high resistive layer. The second one is when the dipole is placed in the relative high conductive layer. The algorithm is tested in both two-layer and three-layer cases and in high deviated well. Compared with the results from the full solution (the result from INDTRI), the Complex Image Theory has satisfactory accuracy and when the number of logging points is 600,000, it is 160 times faster. Error only exists in area two ft. or three ft. away from boundary. By considering the power of real source, the possibility of real application is investigated. The tolerance in different frequencies, spacing and conductivity combinations is discussed too. The simulation results show that the Complex Image Theory works in most geo-steering situations. The proposed method reduces the simulation time and improves the real-time performance of the control system.
The distance inversion is developed for two-layer formation. The inversion results show that the algorithm works well even at the position 10 ft. away from the boundary. The anti-noise capacity of the propose method is measured by further involving random white noise in the simulation scenario. The relative error of simulation is as low as 5% in the area six ft. away from the boundary. With higher conductivity contrast formation, the proposed method is even more robust.

▼ Shock absorbers are crucial components of a vehicle’s chassis responsible for the trade-off between stability, handling, and passenger comfort. The aim of the thesis is to investigate the physical behavior of an advanced automotive racing shock absorber, known as TTR, developed by Öhlins Racing AB. This goal is achieved by developing a detailed lumped parameter numerical model of the entire TTR suspension in the advanced 1D simulation tool, AMESim. The shock absorber is mainly composed of the main cylinder with through-rod piston design and the gas reservoir located at the low pressure hydraulic line, which connects the compression and rebound sides. The mentioned sides are identical in terms of the components which are a High Speed Adjuster, a Low Speed Adjuster, and a check valve mounted in parallel. The adjusters are special hydraulic valves, which can be modified in terms of flow metering characteristics by means of external accessible screws. Adjustment is done in a series of discrete numbers called ‘clicks’. A fixed orifice and a spring-loaded poppet valve are responsible for controlling the piston low and high speed regions respectively. The developed AMESim numerical model is capable of capturing the physics behind the real shock absorber damping characteristics, under both static and dynamic conditions. The model is developed mainly using the standard AMESim mechanical, hydraulic and hydraulic component design libraries and allows discovering the impact of each single hydraulic component on the TTR overall behavior. In particular, the 1D model is presented in two levels of progressive physical complexity in order to improve the dynamic damping characteristics. Several physical phenomena are considered, such as the hydraulics volumes pressure dynamics, the contribution of external spring and pressure forces to the dynamic balance of the moving elements, the static and viscous frictions, and the elastic deformations induced by solid boundaries pressure. In this thesis, progressive model validation with different types of measurements is as well presented, covering the individual hydraulic components models as well as the entire shock absorber model. The measurements have been performed on the flow benches and dynamometers available at the Öhlins Racing measurements laboratory. These comparisons, deeply discussed in the thesis, allow discovering the impact of specific physical effects on the low and high speed hydraulic valves static performance and on the shock absorber dynamic behavior. Numerical results show good agreement, especially at low and medium frequencies and symmetric ‘click’ adjustments on compression and rebound sides. ▼ Electron beam lithography (EBL) is a very promising candidate for integrated circuit (IC) fabrication beyond the 10 nm technology node. To address its throughput issue, the Character Projection (CP) technique has been proposed, and its stencil planning can be optimized with awareness of overlapping characters. However, the top-level 2D stencil planning problem has been proven to be an NP-hard problem. As its most essential step, the
1D row ordering is believed hard as well, and no polynomial time optimal solution has been provided so far. Previous research formulates the problem as the travelling salesman problem, which is NP-hard and solves it by heuristics. In this thesis, we formulate the problem as a matching problem and propose a polynomial time optimal algorithm, which serves as the major subroutine for the entire stencil planning problem. The optimality of the algorithm is proved, and experimental results are also provided to show that our work makes a great improvement in efficiency and correctness to solve the row ordering problem.

▼ Due to climate change, sea levels rise worldwide, temperatures increase which leads to higher evaporation and possible changes in precipitation patterns. These effects of climate change influence salt intrusion, particularly by affecting the freshwater supply. In The Gambia also a planned hydropower dam and possibly future irrigation development will affect the freshwater supply. The combined effects of climate change, the hydropower dam and irrigation development on salt intrusion are unknown. In the worst-case scenario the estuary could turn hypersaline, such as the Casamance, a river south of The Gambia, which turned hypersaline during the Sahelian drought and never restored. This led to the decay of the entire ecosystem. The Gambia river is of major importance to the country, the agricultural sector relies on the freshwater it supplies for growing crops, the fishing industry relies on sufficient numbers of fish to catch and the forestry industry makes use of the mangroves growing around the river. All these industries combined account for ±75% of the working force of The Gambia. It can be safely assumed that if the rivers characteristics change severely due to climate change, the hydropower dam or irrigation development, this will have a strong impact on the country. This thesis aims to clarify the effect that climate change, the hydropower dam and irrigation development have on salt intrusion in the Gambia river. A 1D model, SALNST, is used to model salt concentrations over the river length up to the year 2100. To distinguish the effects of climate change, the hydropower dam and irrigation development the following parameters are implemented: sea level rise, climate projections (precipitation and evaporation), hydropower dam operations and irrigation development. Each of these model parameters has multiple values that represent mild and strong changes for the respective parameter. This results in a set of 27 scenarios revealing the individual impact of each parameter. It can be concluded that The Gambia is prone to climate change when considering salt intrusion. Due to the importance of the river, monitoring sea level rise and the development of climate change will be essential for planning and taking counter measures. Understanding the effects that climate change can have regarding salt intrusion can also be used in negotiations to reserve some freedom in the hydropower dam operations. In addition, solutions that limit the increase in evaporative surface for strong sea level rise (e.g., dikes along a part of the Gambia river) prevent extreme salt intrusion lengths and hyper salinity. The hydropower dam causes a reduced range of salt intrusion lengths, this creates easier to predict salt concentrations which is beneficial for aquaculture. Furthermore, the reduced maximum salt intrusion is also beneficial for agriculture that makes use of irrigation.

▼ La présente thèse porte sur la modélisation dédiée au contrôle des phénomènes physiques se produisant au travers des restrictions de la chaîne d’air du moteur. L’objectif est d’assurer la précision des modèles tout en limitant les temps de calcul associés. En effet, les modèles dédiés au contrôle nécessitent un temps de calcul court (proche du temps réel) afin d’être exploitables dans un processus de développement. En parallèle de cela, les normes concernant les rejets polluants sont de plus en plus drastiques, et nécessitent de prendre en compte finement les phénomènes physiques mis en jeu. Dans une première partie, les équations des phénomènes physiques liés aux turbocompresseurs radiaux sont introduites dans une approche cartographique. Les équations fondamentales des turbomachines sont développées et utilisées afin de construire une méthode d’interpolation / extrapolation de champs turbocompresseur expérimentaux incomplets. Dans un second temps, les résultats d’essais réalisés lors de la thèse sont utilisés pour identifier les transferts thermiques au sein des turbocompresseurs. Un modèle dynamique d’échange thermique est ensuite construit. Le modèle final permet d’obtenir une cartographie complète des champs compresseur et turbine, tout en prenant en compte l’impact des transferts thermiques sur les performances des turbomachines. La seconde partie porte sur la modélisation des restrictions (soupapes, changements de section…) rencontrées sur les MCI. Une méthode pour la résolution quasistatique des équations Euler 1D complètes (masse, énergie, moment) est proposée afin de construire les cartographies associées aux restrictions considérées, sans introduire de coefficient de correction expérimental. Ces cartographies sont utilisables en tant que modèles moyens ou utilisées comme conditions limites de codes aérodynamiques 1D. En cas de couplage avec un code 1D, une méthode de correction d’entropie basée sur un algorithme de linéarisation est proposée afin de réduire le temps de convergence aux conditions limites du domaine de calcul.Finalement, les développements sont validés expérimentalement en écoulements stabilisés et transitoires.
The present thesis will focus on the modeling of the airpath components for the development of the control laws. The goal is to ensure the accuracy of the models while liming the associated calculation time. Indeed, models associated to the development of control laws must ensure law calculation time in order to be compliant with automotive development processes. L’objectif est d’augmenter la précision des modèles tout en limitant les temps de calcul associés afin d’utiliser la simulation comme un outil dédié à la mise au point. Dans une première partie, le développement d’un modèle 0D orienté simulation système est présenté. La prise en compte de l’ensemble des phénomènes physico-chimiques se déroulant dans la chambre de combustion confère au modèle un niveau de prédictivité conséquent. Un nouveau modèle de combustion de prémélange est proposé, permettant une modélisation détaillée des combustions fortement diluées et des combustions relatives aux injections précoces. Une approche innovante permettant de quantifier les interactions entre les jets pour la multi injection est également proposée. Après calibration sur un nombre restreint d’essais moteur, les résultats du modèle global sont comparés à des mesures expérimentales pour toute la plage de fonctionnement du moteur. La seconde partie de ce travail porte sur la modélisation 1D de la combustion Diesel. Un modèle de jet Diesel est d’abord développé et validé sur des mesures expérimentales. Ce modèle est ensuite étendu à des conditions réactionnelles à l’aide d’un couplage avec un modèle de combustion. Ce dernier s’appuie sur une tabulation des mécanismes de cinétique chimique, ainsi que sur une approche Eddy Break-Up permettant de modéliser le taux de réaction lié au micro mélange. Ce modèle est ensuite intégré à un modèle de chambre de combustion et une première validation du modèle sur des essais moteur réels est entreprise.
The present thesis focuses on the 0D/1D Diesel combustion modeling of recent engines. The goal is to improve models accuracy while minimizing computation times in order to use simulation as a tool for engine pre-mapping. In the first part, a 0D model designed as a system simulation-oriented tool is proposed. The main contribution of this study is the modeling of the premixed part of the Diesel combustion. This model allows a detailed modeling of highly diluted combustion and combustion related to early injections. A new approach to quantify interactions between each spray in the case of multi injection strategies is also proposed. After calibration using a very small number of engine tests, results for the global combustion chamber model are compared with experimental measurements for the overall engine operating conditions. The second part of this work deals with the 1D Diesel combustion modeling. A Diesel spray model is at first developed and validated on experimental measurements. This model is then extended to reaction conditions using the coupling with a combustion model. The combustion model makes use of tabulated local reaction rates of fuel and is based on the Eddy Break-Up approach to describe the reaction rate related to the turbulent mixing process. ▼ Les phénomènes quantiques ouvrent des possibilités nouvelles et révolutionnaires dans les domaines du calcul et de la cryptographie. Il est attendue, que des problèmes impossibles à résoudre avec des moyens classiques, peuvent être résolus par des ordinateurs quantiques, et la communication devient absolument sécurisée si elle est encodée dans un état de système quantique – un bit quantique. Un effort important a récemment été consacré à la recherche sur le transfert déterministe d’information entre photons et atomes, fonctionnant comme des bits quantiques volants et stationnaires respectivement. L’interaction entre ces deux composants est augmentée s’ils sont placés dans un milieu optique unidimensionnel, réalisant un système appelée “un atome 1D”. L’étude de ce milieu optique et des ses applications aux technologies quantiques constitue l’objectif de cette thèse.Tout d’abord, nous explorons l’interaction entre le champ lumineux et un atome 1D, en prenant une boîte quantique semi-conductrice dans un micropilier comme exemple. Nous étudions le contrôle cohérent de ce système avec des impulsions lumineuses afin de trouver un moyen optimal de contrôler son état, en faisant varier la puissance, la forme et la durée d’une impulsion, ainsi que la statistique de l’état quantique du champ lumineux. Nous étudions également l’impact de l’atome 1D sur l'état du champ réfléchi en fonction des paramètres du système expérimental.Nous poursuivons avec l’étude de l’état quantique du champ lumineux réfléchi, en nous concentrant sur sa pureté. C’est important pour transmettre fidèlement l’état superposition d’un bit stationnaire à un autre par la lumière, qui agit comme un bit quantique volant. Nous développons une méthode de caractérisation expérimentale de la pureté et l’appliquons à des données expérimentales, démontrant ainsi que la technologie moderne permet de créer des superpositions de haute pureté.Enfin, nous nous concentrons sur la lecture d’un qubit stationnaire basé sur un spin dans un environnement unidimensionnel. Nous étudions comment la lumière polarisée peut être utilisé pour cela, en montrant qu’il est possible de lire l’état de spin en détectant qu’un seul photon. Nous explorons différents écarts de ce régime optimal. Nous étudions également la décohérence de l’état de spin due à l’interaction avec le champ lumineux, et back-action de la mesure, montrant que l’état de spin peut être “gelé”. C’est une manifestation de l’effet Zeno quantique, qui permet la préparation du qubit dans un état arbitraire. Cela ouvre des perspectives pour la réalisation efficace de bits quantiques stationnaires basés sur des spins uniques incorporés dans un environnement électromagnétique unidimensionnel.

▼ Les maladies cardiovasculaires représentent la première cause de mortalité dans le monde. L’hypertension artérielle et l’hypertrophie du ventricule gauche en constituent deux facteurs de risque souvent asymptomatiques. Dans ce contexte, la pression aortique s’impose comme un indicateur de la santé cardiovasculaire reflétant non seulement les propriétés biomécaniques des artères centrales mais aussi la post-charge ventriculaire. La mesure de ce paramètre hémodynamique est donc cruciale pour le diagnostic et la prise en charge thérapeutique. L’objectif de ce travail est d’estimer non-invasivement la pression aortique en couplant l’Imagerie par Résonance Magnétique Cardiovasculaire (IRM-CV) à la modélisation de l’écoulement sanguin. Nous avons ainsi opté pour un modèle biomécanique unidimensionnel (1D) réduit, prenant en compte l’interaction du sang avec la paroi élastique de l’aorte. Ce segment 1D est couplé en sortie à un modèle Windkessel, dit 0D, modélisant l’ensemble du réseau vasculaire en aval de l’aorte. Les paramètres locaux du modèle 1D ainsi que ses conditions aux limites (conditions d'entrée et paramètres du modèle 0D) sont déterminés à partir des données acquises non-invasivement par IRM-CV. Cela permettrait des prédictions 1D spécifiques à chaque sujet/patient. Nous avons évalué la validité du modèle sur des fantômes d’aorte saine et pathologique. Un banc expérimental compatible avec l’IRM a été mis en œuvre; il reproduit au mieux l’écoulement aortique in vivo. Des mesures de pression invasives ont été confrontées à celles prédites par le modèle 1D. Nous avons également évalué la sensibilité du modèle 1D aux paramètres d’entrée.
Cardiovascular (CV) diseases remain the most common cause of death worldwide. Hypertension and left ventricle hypertrophy are two major risk factors associated to such diseases. In this context, aortic blood pressure is considered as a biomarker of increased CV risk and, more generally, a CV health indicator. In fact, it encodes information about biomechanical properties of central elastic arteries and represents left ventricle afterload. Assessment of this hemodynamic parameter is thus crucial for CV disease diagnosis and for evaluating therapeutic benefits. The aim of this work is to non-invasively assess the aortic blood pressure by coupling CV Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CV-MRI) to blood flow modeling. We thus developed a reduced one-dimensional (1D) flow model taking into account the fluid-structure interaction. A Windkessel (or zero-dimensional (0D)) model describing the arterial tree downstream of the aorta was coupled to the 1D segment. Both 1D model parameters and boundary conditions (inlet condition and 0D model parameters) were non-invasively determined using CV-MRI data. The necessary steps for creation of the equivalent model of the four-stroke three-cylinder combustion engine are provided. The engine used for the validation model was Aixro XR 50. The data measured on this engine during testing were used to validate the created thermodynamic model. The discharge coefficient calculation of the intake and the exhaust ports is shown. The 11kW engine design is created using validated thermodynamic model.

▼ Carrapatos da espécie Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus causam enormes prejuízos à saúde e à produção animal. Sendo um ectoparasita hematófago, o carrapato espolia seu hospedeiro e transmite doenças. Seu parasitismo é mediado por sua saliva, que inibe as reações homeostáticas do hospedeiro à injúria local causada por sua picada. Seus hospedeiros montam respostas imunes contra esse parasita, incluindo a resposta imune mediada por anticorpos, indicando que o controle imunobiológico é possível. Contudo, o complexo farmacológico da saliva do parasita é composto por proteínas solúveis que são sabidamente pouco ou nada imunogênicos se não forem introduzidos no hospedeiro com adjuvante ou na foram agregada. Assim, dificilmente induziriam imunidade nos hospedeiros. Bovinos apresentam fenótipos contrastantes e herdáveis quanto à intensidade de infestações com carrapatos. Carrapatos alimentados em bovinos resistentes não completam a refeição de sangue, apresentando menor eficiência reprodutiva. É possível que esse desfecho seja devido à capacidade do hospedeiro resistente, mas não do suscetível, de produzir anticorpos que neutralizam componentes salivares do carrapato cruciais para realize a hematofagia. É necessário, portanto, examinar essa possibilidade. Os resultados obtidos também podem ajudar a identificar antígenos úteis para formular uma vacina anti-carrapato. Para estabelecer quais componentes salivares são reconhecidos pelos dois fenótipos de hospedeiros empregamos uma soroteca composta por soros obtidos de bovinos resistentes e suscetíveis ao carrapato em diferentes estágios do ciclo do parasito (larva, ninfa e adulto) e após uma, duas ou três ciclos de infestações. Os soros foram empregados individualmente e em forma de pools para imunodetecção por western blot de proteínas presentes em extrato de larvas não-alimentadas, saliva e glândulas salivares de fêmeas de R. microplus e separadas em uma e duas dimensões. Os resultados obtidos nos western blots
1D de saliva e de extrato de larvas não alimentadas mostraram que houve um reconhecimento diferencial dos antígenos parasitários pelos soros dos animais resistentes e suscetíveis. Os soros dos animais resistentes quando ainda eram livres de infestações (i.e., naïve) ou quando infestados com a forma larval reconheceram com maior freqüência e/ou exclusivamente certas bandas de proteínas. Resultados semelhantes foram vistos nos western blots de géis 2D de saliva e glândulas salivares de fêmeas, onde os soros dos animais resistentes ainda não infestados (i.e., naïve) reconheceram vários spots presentes nessas amostras e soros de animais resistentes infestados reconhecerem spots de forma exclusiva. Também foi observado que, apesar dos hospedeiros suscetíveis estarem expostos a grande quantidade de saliva, os soros desses animais não reconhecem um número maior de spots que os hospedeiros infestados resistentes. vertical ascendente é realizada utilizando o Modelo de Dois Fluidos
unidimensional. Para escoamentos verticais, na ausência de
mecanismos estabilizadores, o sistema de equações resultante é
incondicionalmente mal posto. Dessa forma, visando tornar o sistema
de equações bem posto, adicionou-se às equações de quantidade de
movimento um termo de pressão dinâmica. Dois modelos disponíveis na
literatura são investigados. O primeiro só considera a pressão
dinâmica na equação de quantidade de movimento do líquido, a qual é
baseada em uma simples expressão para a velocidade da onda na
interface. O segundo modelo inclui uma contribuição da pressão
dinâmica em ambas equações de quantidade de movimento. No presente
trabalho, um terceiro modelo é proposto, o qual é baseado no
primeiro modelo, com uma avaliação mais realista da velocidade da
onda na interface. O efeito estabilizante da pressão dinâmica é
demonstrado através de um rigoroso teste de convergência de malha.
As equações de conservação são discretizadas com o método de
volumes finitos, com uma integração temporal de primeira ordem e
uma discretização espacial TVD de segunda ordem. Tanto o segundo
quanto o terceiro modelo considerados apresentaram solução
independente da malha. Parâmetros do escoamento como gradiente de
pressão, espessura do filme, e variáveis características da onda
obtidos numericamente são comparados com dados experimentais
disponíveis na literatura, apresentando boa
concordância.
[en] A numerical analysis of vertical ascending
annular flow with the 1D Two-Fluid model is performed. It is well
known that, in vertical flows, the resulting system of equations is
unconditionally ill-posed in the absence of stabilizing mechanisms.
Therefore, in the present work, to render the system of equations
well-posed, modeling of dynamic pressure is included in the
momentum equations. Two models available in the literature are
examined. The first one only considers the dynamic pressure in the
liquid momentum equation, which is based on a simple expression for
the interface wave velocity. The second model includes a dynamic
pressure contribution to both momentum equations. A third model is
proposed based on the first, with a more realistic estimation of
the interface wave velocity. A systematic grid convergence test is
performed to demonstrate the stabilizing effect of the dynamic
pressure. The conservation equations are discretized with the
finite volume method, with a first order time integration, and a
second order TVD spatial discretization. A grid-independent
solution can be found when applying the second and third models
considered. Flow parameters such as pressure drop, film thickness
and wave characteristics numerically obtained are compared against
available experimental data, presenting good
agreement.

▼ This study mainly focuses on the fabrication of single one dimensional (
1D) NP chains across the 5-micron gap of Au two electrode devices (TED). This has been achieved by electrochemical deposition of Ag onto the two electrodes, soaking the TED in 0.1 M Cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide for 2-3 hours, and then close monitoring of the current as a function of time while a voltage across the two Ag coated Au electrodes in air. One dimensional Ag nanoparticle chain formation occurred by oxidation of Ag to Ag
+ at the positive electrode followed by movement of Ag
+ ions to the negative electrode and deposition by reduction of Ag
+. Chain formation could be detected by current spike in a current time plot at a specific voltage. High voltage of 3-5 V and the appearance of multiple spikes led to several chains across the gap with uncontrolled current. We fabricated single
1D nano chains by applying a voltage of 1 V across the Ag deposited TEDs for 1000 seconds. If no current spikes appeared, we went to 2 V for 1000 s, and so on until the first appearance at a current spike. After the first spike appeared, we then stopped the voltage and went to 1 V for a certain amount of time until the current reached the desired level. This led to single nanoparticle chains with controlled resistance values ranging from 0.1 to 10 s of kilo ohms. The chain morphology chained dramatically depending on the resistance of the chain and the Ag deposition method. Chains formed from the electrodeposited Ag nanoneedles displayed chains of Ag nanoparticles well-aligned single file at high resistance and more continuous rods/wire at low resistance. Chains formed from electrodeposited Ag nanoneedles displayed chains of Ag nanoparticles well-aligned single file at high resistance and more continuous rods/wire at low resistance. Chains formed from electrodeposited Ag NP films display a cone shape with wide base at positive electrode and more narrow chain at the negative electrode, especially for higher resistance wires.

▼ In this work, spoke about the importance of image compression for the industry, it is known that processing and image storage is always a challenge in petrobrás to optimize the storage time and
store a maximum number of images and data. We present an interactive system for processing and storing images in the wavelet domain and an interface for digital image processing. The
proposal is based on the Peano function and wavelet transform in
1D. The storage system aims to optimize the computational space, both for storage and for transmission of images. Being
necessary to the application of the Peano function to linearize the images and the
1D wavelet transform to decompose it. These applications allow you to extract relevant information for the storage of an image with a lower computational cost and with a very small margin of error when comparing the images, original and processed, ie, there is little loss of quality when applying the processing system presented . The results obtained from the information extracted from the images are displayed in a graphical interface. It is through the graphical user interface that the user uses the files to view and analyze the results of the programs directly on the computer screen without the worry of dealing with the source code. The graphical user interface, programs for image processing via Peano Function and Wavelet Transform

▼ Gel electrophoresis is an important method used for separation and analysis of macromolecules with electric potential. This well-established method has a big potential in medicine and science, however, the output images often suffer from distortion. This work describes several known sources of distortion and elaborates on existing methods of the track detection in gel electrophoresis. The core of this thesis introduces a new method to detect individual tracks and image pre-processing based on the standard deviation calculated on the horizontal segmentation of the image. The proposed algorithm is implemented and tested in Matlab. The success rate of the proposed method reaches 96,7 % on 35 test images of gel electrophoresis. The next phase is the band detection in the vertical profile and the binary image drawing. Although the band detection is not fully automated, a detection success rate achieves up to 86,4 % when proper setting is used.

▼ Thesis deals about solution of non-steady flow in hydraulic systems, which have one dominant component of velocity. Such systems can be arbitrarily structured and they are not limited by number of elements. Computation is based on Lax-Wendroff method and enables considering of variable sound peed as function of static pressure and properties of pipe material. It means, that hydraulic system can be very various. Numerical method is described in detail and description is also focused on sensitivity of method for time step and length step. It can be very imported for evaluation of numerical viscosity, which is compared with second viscosity of fluid. Hammer is working title of software, which was developed on the basis of written numerical procedures. This software enables fast computation of flow in pipe-line systems.

▼ The master’s thesis deals with methods of matching of a turbocharger to a combustion engine and with the analysis of their mutual cooperation. Besides a methodology of analytical determination of the appropriate size for compressor and turbine stage, there was created a thermodynamic model of an engine that is to be used as a means of propulsion for a prototype single-seater for the competition Formula Student. Post processing of real engine data measured on a dyno helped to create a parameter database that could be used for validation of the thermodynamic engine model and for deeper understanding of the system’s internal processes.

▼ Internal combustion engines, electric motors and batteries generate a significant amount of heat during operation that needs to be extracted by cooling systems. A cooling system is designed and installed to extract the generated heat and maintain the system temperature in an optimal range. Overheating has several unfavorable outcomes such as less durability and lower energy efficiency. The cooling system consists of several components such as hoses, flow splitters, valves, heat exchangers, coolant, pump, etc. The coolant, as the working fluid, is pumped to different heat generator component to enable the cooling down process. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a powerful and cost efficient tool to simulate the cooling processes, design, and evaluate the performance of a cooling system. Generally, one dimensional CFD is a common approach to interpret and explain the cooling processes in the automotive industry due to its high flexibility and computational cost efficiency. Also, three dimensional CFD is employed whenever it is required to study complex physical phenomena and provide detailed information. Additionally, it is possible to couple one dimensional and three dimensional CFD approaches to simulate cooling processes. Not only is the coupled 1D-3D CFD approach able to capture complicated physical processes but also is flexible and cost efficient. The objective of this master thesis is to implement 1D-3D CFD coupled simulation on internal combustion engines’ cooling system and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of this method. The performance of this method is examined in different case studies with different flow and geometrical characteristics. The effect of various turbulence models and numerical settings are investigated on the quality of the coupled simulations’ results. The coupled simulations are carried out using GT-SUITE and STAR-CCM+ software. The performed simulations show that the coupling method is a convenient approach which is able to capture detailed physics with high precision requiring reasonable computational costs. The results of the coupled simulations depict agreement with the uncoupled 1D CFD simulations, although some discrepancies are observed in complex case studies. Also, it is shown that the coupled simulations are sensitive to numerical settings and physical models, consequently, the case setup should be optimized carefully.

Abstract
In order to gain better understanding on the impacts of sewage treatment plant (STP) effluent on marine environment, the present study was undertaken to investigate the structure of benthic community and protein expression patterns of 4 benthic species in STP effluent areas in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Six sites were selected, 3 near Jhong Jhou STP, 2 near NSYSU STP and one reference site. Samples were collected in December 2009 (winter) and July 2010 (summer) by bottom trawling. In winter, temperature was 26.8 °C; salinity and pH were 32. 2‰ and 8.1. In summer, environmental data were 33.7 °C, 31.5‰ and 8.0, respectively. In all, 5 phyla, 31 families and 48 different species were captured in two seasons. Proteomic approach by one-dimensional sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (
1D SDS-PAGE) was conducted on 3 fishes, Leiognathus splendens, Apogon fasciatus, Engyprosopon multisquama, and one crab Portunus hastatoides. Environment characteristics and structure of benthic community had no significant difference among the 6 sampling sites. Protein expression patterns based on the four examined species also indicated no significant difference among sites. The complexity of pollutants in Kaohsiung Harbor is probably the main reason affecting all sampling sites. In other words, contaminated area in Kaohsiung Harbor may cover a wide range, at least

over the present sampling distance, i.e. 8km which causes no difference in community structure and protein expression pattern among control, Jhong Jhou STP and NSYSU STP sites.

▼ The study of accumulation rates of ice is a direct link to the evolution of ice sheet. It is believed by scientists that ice sheet evolution will aid in the mystery of climate change and may lead to predictions about climates in the future. This dissertation focuses on studying the accumulation rates of ice within the Western Antarctic Ice Sheet near an ice divide. The site of study is located just near Subglacial Lake Ellsworth. Radio Echo Sounding (RES) data was collected to measure the depths of certain isochronous layers within the ice sheet and a one-dimensional (
1D) compression model was used to determine the accumulation rates. Due to the lack of ice core data, data and methods of acquiring accumulation had to be correlated with those from Byrd Station. The final results were converted into raster format by layer and accumulation rate. This was done so that spatial analysis could be performed on the data. A regression analysis was run on the rasters. The end results of the dissertation showed that the ice sheet has changed some over the past 6,000, but not enough to declare the WAIS unstable.

▼ The current state of the art in reactor physics methods to assess safety, fuel failure, and operability margins for Design Basis Accidents (DBAs) for Light Water Reactors (LWRs) rely upon the coupling of nodal neutronics and one-dimensional thermal hydraulic system codes. The neutronic calculations use a multi-step approach in which the assembly homogenized macroscopic cross sections and kinetic parameters are first calculated using a lattice code for the range of conditions (temperatures, burnup, control rod position, etc...) anticipated during the transient. The core calculation is then performed using the few group cross sections in a core simulator which uses some type of coarse mesh nodal method. The multi-step approach was identified as inadequate for several applications such as the design of MOX cores and other highly hetereogeneous, high leakage core designs. Because of the considerable advances in computing power over the last several years, there has been interest in high-fidelity solutions of the Boltzmann Transport equation. A practical approach developed for high-fidelity solutions of the 3D transport equation is the 2D-1D methodology in which the method of characteristics (MOC) is applied to the heterogeneous 2D planar problem and a lower order solution is applied to the axial problem which is, generally, more uniform. This approach was implemented in the DeCART code. Recently, there has been interest in extending such approach to the simulations of design basis accidents, such as control rod ejection accidents also known as reactivity initiated accidents (RIA). The current 2D-1D algorithm available in DeCART only provide 1D axial solution based on the diffusion theory whose accuracy deteriorates in case of strong flux gradient that can potentially be observed during RIA simulations. The primary ojective of the dissertation is to improve the accuracy and range of applicability of the DeCART code and to investigate its ability to perform a full core transient analysis of a realistic RIA. The specific research accomplishments of this work include:* The addition of more accurate 2D-1D coupling and transverse leakage splitting options to avoid the occurrence of negative source terms in the 2D MOC equations and the subsequent failure of the DeCART calculation and the improvement of the convergence of the 2D-1D method.* The implementation of a higher order transport axial solver based on NEM-Sn derivation of the Boltzmann equation. * Improved handling of thermal hydraulic feedbacks by DeCART during transient calculations.* A consistent comparison of the DeCART transient methodology with the current multistep approach (PARCS) for a realistic full core RIA.An efficient direct whole core transport calculation method involving the NEM-Sn formulation for the axial solution and the MOC for the 2-D radial solution was developed.
