▼ This study examines British Romantic responses to Italian Renaissance art and argues that Italian art was a key force in shaping Romantic-period culture and aesthetic thought. Italian Renaissance art, which was at once familiar and unknown, provided an avenue through which Romantic writers could explore a wide range of issues. Napoleon’s looting of Italy made this art central to contemporary politics, but it also provided the British with their first real chance to own Italian Old Master art. The period’s interest in biography and genius led to the development of an aesthetic vocabulary that might be applied equally to literature and visual art. Chapter One discusses the place of Italian art in Post-Waterloo Britain and how the influx of Old Master art impacted on Britain’s exhibition and print culture. While Italian art was appropriated as a symbol of British national prestige, Catholic iconography could be difficult to reconcile with Protestant taste. Furthermore, Old Master art challenged both eighteenth-century aesthetic philosophy and the Royal Academy’s standing, while simultaneously creating opportunities for new viewers and new patrons to participate in the cultural discourse. Chapter Two builds on these ideas by exploring the idea of connoisseurship in the period. As art became increasingly democratized, a cacophony of voices competed to claim aesthetic authority. While the chapter examines a range of competing discourses, it culminates in a discussion of what I have termed the ‘Poetic Connoisseur’. Through a discussion of the work of Lord Byron, Percy Shelley and William Hazlitt, I argue that Romantic writers created an exclusive aristocracy of taste which demanded that the viewer be able to read the ‘poetry of painting’. Chapter Three focuses on the ways in which Romantic writers used art to produce literature rather than criticism. In this chapter, I argue that writers such as Byron, Shelley, Lady Morgan, Anna Jameson and Madame de Staël, created an imaginative vocabulary which lent itself equally to literature and visual art. Chapter Four uses Samuel Rogers’s Italy as a case study. It traces how the themes discussed in the previous chapters shaped the production of one of the nineteenth century’s most popular illustrated books, how British art began to appropriate Italian subjects and how deeply intertwined visual and literary culture were in the period. Finally, this discussion of Italy demonstrates how Romantic values were passed to a Victorian readership. Through an appreciation of how the Romantics understood Italian Renaissance art we can better understand their experience and understanding of Italy, British and European visual culture and the Imagination.

▼ This thesis offers a cultural history of the Scots Renascence, a revival of Scottish identity and culture between 1880 and 1914, and demonstrates how heavily Scottish cultural nationalism in this period drew from, and was defined by, fin-de-siècle Decadence. Few cultural historians have taken the notion of a Scots Renascence seriously and many literary critics have styled the period as low point in the health of Scottish culture – a narrative which is deeply flawed. Others have portrayed Decadence as antithetical to nationalism (and to Scotland itself). The thesis challenges these characterisations and argues that there was a revival of Scottish identity in the period which drew from, and contributed to, Decadent critiques of 'civilisation' and 'progress'. The thesis considers literature alongside visual art, which were so interdependent around the 1890s. It focuses on three main cultural groups in Scotland (the circle that surrounded Patrick Geddes, the Glasgow School and writers of the Scottish Romance Revival) but it speaks to an even wider cultural trend. Together, the various figures treated here formed a loose movement concerned with reviving Scottish identity by returning to the past and challenging notions of improvement, utilitarianism and stadialism. The first chapter considers the cultural and historical background to the Scots Renascence and reveals how the writings of the Scottish Romance Revival critiqued stadialist narratives in order to lay the ground for a more unified national self. The second chapter demonstrates how important japonisme and the Belgian cultural revival were to the Scots Renascence: Scottish cultural nationalists looked to Japan and Belgium, amongst other nations, to gain inspiration and form a particular counter- hegemony. The final three chapters of the thesis explore how a unifying myth of origin was developed through neo-Paganism, how connections to an ancestral self were activated through occultism, and how such ideas of mythic origin and continuation were disseminated to wide audiences through pageantry. In doing so, the thesis charts the origins, development and dissemination of the Scots Renascence, while situating it within its historical and international contexts.

It focuses on three main cultural groups in Scotland (the circle that surrounded Patrick Geddes, the Glasgow School and writers of the Scottish Romance Revival) but it speaks to an even wider cultural trend. Together, the various figures treated here formed a loose movement concerned with reviving Scottish identity by returning to the past and challenging notions of improvement, utilitarianism and stadialism. The first chapter considers the cultural and historical background to the Scots Renascence and reveals how the writings of the Scottish Romance Revival critiqued stadialist narratives in order to lay the ground for a more unified national self. The second chapter demonstrates how important japonisme and the Belgian cultural revival were to the Scots Renascence: Scottish cultural nationalists looked to Japan and Belgium, amongst other nations, to gain inspiration and form a particular counter- hegemony. The final three chapters of the thesis explore how a unifying myth of origin was developed through neo-Paganism, how connections to an ancestral self were activated through occultism, and how such ideas of mythic origin and continuation were disseminated to wide audiences through pageantry. In doing so, the thesis charts the origins, development and dissemination of the Scots Renascence, while situating it within its historical and international contexts.

Sua import?ncia ? usualmente atribu?da ao fato de figurarem como uma potencial fonte de recursos e liquidez aos mercados financeiros, fazendo com que exer?am influ?ncia n?o somente sobre as estrat?gias de financiamento e investimento das corpora??es n?o financeiras (CNF), mas tamb?m sobre a pr?pria economia. A falta de consenso sobre quais investidores teriam um perfil de mais curto ou longo prazo, somada ? incipiente literatura tanto sobre os elementos condicionantes do modo de atua??o dos investidores institucionais em economias emergentes (EE) quanto sobre o portf?lio e influ?ncia dos mesmos no ?mbito corporativo brasileiro, figura entre as justificativas para o desenvolvimento desta pesquisa. O objetivo principal ? mapear a atua??o e avaliar a influ?ncia dos investidores institucionais no mercado acion?rio brasileiro. A an?lise da atua??o dos investidores institucionais em EE, em particular, no Brasil, forneceu ind?cios de que o diferencial de juros, de c?mbio e de retorno entre o investimento produtivo e o financeiro est?o entre os principais condicionantes da aloca??o do portf?lio destes agentes, apesar da influ?ncia sobre as CNF depender do perfil de investimento de cada investidor. A partir da aplica??o da an?lise fatorial e de cluster, a heterogeneidade dos investidores institucionais foi confirmada, tendo sido delimitados quatro clusters. Al?m disso, foi estimado um modelo de dados em painel pelo M?todo dos Momentos Generalizado Sist?mico (GMM-Sys), a partir de uma amostra de 261 empresas, no per?odo 2010-2016. Os resultados indicaram que os investidores institucionais, sem distin??o, n?o afetam a pol?tica de dividendos, mas t?m uma influ?ncia positiva sobre os investimentos financeiros. Este estudo realiza uma abordagem investigativa sobre a pr?xis-poiesis da atividade art?stica na Amaz?nia, no ?mbito da cultura popular, assinalando a invisibilidade deste tipo de trabalho no seio da ci?ncia. Trata-se de uma abordagem tecida com os fios da interdisciplinaridade, sob a inspira??o da dial?gica moriniana, em franca conversa??o com a Filosofia, a Sociologia, a Antropologia e as Artes, al?m das vozes de campo, dos documentos liter?rios, das viv?ncias e da observa??o in loco. O epicentro da pesquisa ? a cidade de Fonte Boa, localizada no interior do Amazonas, seus barrac?es e ateli?s onde se produz a tradicional festa dos boisbumb?s. S?o nestes espa?os criativos que os artistas-andarilhos, todos autodidatas, se encontram anualmente para tecer, durante meses, uma narrativa visual sobre a Amaz?nia por interm?dio de sua arte, constituindo-se tamb?m em sujeitos num processo autopoi?tico. A metodologia, ancorada numa perspectiva rizom?tica de conhecimento, concentrou-se em narrativas dos artistas colhidas no ?mbito da cria??o da festa fonteboense, acrescidas de fontes secund?rias cotejadas com fotografias, poemas e can??es, concernentes ? tem?tica em estudo. Os principais resultados revelam que o artista popular vive numa crise de pertencimento num tempo em que as antigas certezas perderam for?a, ele ? um mediador cultural que faz rizoma, o que o faz abrir m?o de quaisquer tipos de seguran?a, inclusive jur?dica. A pr?xis-poiesis do artista-andarilho da Amaz?nia emerge conceitualmente como uma antiperip?cia, j? que se afasta da cl?ssica divis?o grega entre pr?xis e poiesis. A pesquisa mostra que a poiesis do artista amaz?nico penetrou na ess?ncia da t?cnica, metamorfoseando-a, transcendendo o pr?prio artista que desterritorializa o conceito e, por conseguinte, se realiza almaticamente. A sua sensibilidade lhe permite dar vida ao imagin?rio amaz?nico, de sua arte abrolham seres fant?sticos, animais h?bridos, encantarias que s? habitavam as narrativas dos povos tradicionais. This study carries out an investigative approach on the praxis-poiesis of the artistic activity in the Amazon, in the ambit of popular culture, pointing out the invisibility of this type of work within the science. It is an approach woven with the threads of interdisciplinarity, under the inspiration of the Mormon dialogic, in frank conversation with Philosophy, Sociology, Anthropology and the Arts, as well as field voices, literary documents, experiences and observation in loco. ▼ Introduction and aims: In developed countries, most children born of HIV-positive mothers are exposed to antiretroviral (ARV) agents prenatally, during birth, and postnatally. Various studies, some affected by methodological bias, have related ARV exposure in these children to elevated lactic acid levels in blood (sometimes symptomatic) and lactic acidosis. Aims: To determine the incidence of hyperlactatemia, lactic acidosis, and associated neurologic manifestations in children of HIV-infected mothers and HCV-infected mothers during the first year of life. To investigate parameters associated with the presence of hyperlactatemia in both groups, and its relationship with neurologic manifestations and neurodevelopmental delay. Patients and methods: Prospective comparative cohort study with 40 patients per group (320 blood samples) consecutively included from October 2004 to October 2007. pH, lactic acid, and alpha-alanine levels were determined at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months of life in all cases. The definition of pathological hyperlactatemia was based on a lactic acid value >2.1 mmol/L and alpha-alanine >435 μmol/L. Results. A total of 79 patients were studied (39 in the ARV-exposed cohort, 40 in the non-exposed cohort). The maternal demographic characteristics were similar in the 2 groups. In the exposed group, 89.7% of pregnant mothers were receiving HAART and 10.3% monotherapy with AZT; 54% had an undetectable viral load before delivery and 20% a CD4+ count <350/mm3. Thirty-one neonates received AZT monotherapy and 8 combined therapy. Twelve patients (5 exposed and 7 non-exposed) presented some type of neurologic abnormality and 4 (5.1%) (1 exposed and 3 non-exposed) presented neurodevelopment alterations, with no significant differences between groups (p=0.34). Pathological hyperlactatemia was seen in 56.4% (95% CI, 39.6-72.2) and 57.5% (95% CI, 40.9-73.0) of patients, respectively (p=0.92), with significantly more cases in premature patients (p<0.05). There were no cases of lactic acidosis. The following variables were not associated with pathologic hyperlactatemia: HAART use during pregnancy, type of ARV, AIDS diagnosis in the mother, CD4 count, viral load, or ARV therapy in the neonatal period. Hyperlactatemia was not associated with neurologic or neurodevelopment abnormalities. Conclusions: ARV use in the prenatal period, during delivery, and/or postnatally was not associated with the development of hyperlactatemia in our study. Only premature status was related to a higher incidence of this condition, Furthermore, there was no association between hyperlactatemia and the development of neurologic symptoms. ▼ Liikuntakeskus Klub1 on uusi liikuntakeskus lähellä Jyväskylän keskustaa. Liikuntakeskuk-sella on tilavat ryhmäliikunta- ja salimahdollisuudet. Liikuntakeskuksella on muun muassa ryhmäliikuntaa, kuntosali, Personal trainer -palveluita, lapsiparkki, hieroja. Personal trainer -palvelut yhdessä jäsenmaksujen kanssa tuottavat suurimman osan liikuntakeskuksen tu-loista. Personal trainer palveluissa on yksilöpaketteja, Duo paketteja sekä 4-8 henkilön group paketteja tarjolla. Kuitenkin asiakkaat treenaavat pitkälti vain yksilöinä PT palveluissa ja jonkin verran kahdenhengen Duona. Personal trainer ryhmiä ei ole siis vielä myyty Klub1:lla Group-hinnoilla. Tämä opinnäytetyö keskittyi Personal trainer ryhmien tuotteistamiseen, suunnitteluun ja pilotointikokeiluun liikuntakeskus Klub1:lla. Tarkoituksena oli saada näistä ryhmistä Klub1:lle toimivat palvelutuotteet, joita myös muu Personal trainer -tiimi pystyisi toteuttamaan liikun-takeskuksella jatkossa. Ryhmiä olisi tarkoitus pitää jatkossa myös asiakkaiden toivomilla teemoilla. Ryhmiä toteutettiin kaksi ja ne olivat viiden kerran eli viiden viikon pituista Personal trainer-valmennuksia. Kilot karisee-ryhmän tavoitteena oli pudottaa painoa ja saada kehonkoostu-muksellisia muutoksia voimaharjoittelulla. Tarkoitus oli myös omaksua terveellisempiä elä-mäntapoja. Ryhmän jäsenet saivat itse päättää omat henkilökohtaiset painonpudotustavoit-teensa. Toinen ryhmä nimeltään Back on track eli takaisin ruotuun-ryhmä oli tarkoitettu henkilöille, joilla liikkuminen on epäsäännöllistä ja tarvitsivat apua salitreenien tekemiseen ja tekniikkaopastusta saliliikkeisiin. Tämän ryhmän jäsenet halusivat kohti liikunnallisempaa elämäntapaa ja heille varsinainen painonpudotus ei ollut tarpeellinen. Tässä ryhmässä oli ajateltu työikäisiä ja lapsiperheellisiä liikkujia. Personal Trainer-ryhmien tuotteistamiseen ja pilotointiin kuului eri pakettien brändäys, mai-nostus, pakettien sisällön rajaus, työskentelyvälineiden antaminen tavoitteisiin pääsemisek-si, tulosten mittaamisen mittareiden laatiminen, ryhmien pilotointikokeilut ja tuotteiden kehit-täminen palautteiden ja omien havaintojen pohjalta. Palvelua kehiteltiin liikuntapalvelun tuot-teistamisen, asiakaslähtöisyyden ja muutoskäyttäytymisen teorian kautta. Ryhmät olivat pidettyjä sisällöltään ja asiakkaat kokivat saavansa arvokasta tietoa itsellen-sä. Palautteissa ilmeni erilaisia toiveita ryhmien pituudesta ja sisällön järjestyksestä. Ravit-semusohjausta pidettiin kaikista arvokkaimpana tekijänä valmennuksessa. Saliohjausta pyritään jatkossa saamaan vielä arvokkaammaksi tekijäksi ryhmissä, koska suurin osa sisällöstä on kuntosaliohjausta. Ryhmiä toteutetaan jatkossa liikuntakeskuksella laajemmin myös uusilla teemoilla, jotta kaikille asiakkaille löytyisi omiin tavoitteisiin sopiva Personal trainer-ryhmä.

▼ The aim of this research was to identify, from the point of view of the knowledge building theory, the most important authors and institutions involved in finance research publications, from 1979 to 2012, to follow how the knowledge was built in this area. It was made a sociometric study of descriptive character, involving 223 articles from 78 journals. For this, the articles were divided in six thematic areas - Portfolio Theory, Capital Structure and Dividend Policy, CAPM, Market Efficiency, Price Options and Behavior Finance. Moreover, it was made the presentation of the cooperation social networks, splitting authors and institutions according to the thematic areas. Subsequently, it was made the analysis of the areas and institutions that most represent the publications in the searched population, as well as how the building of this knowledge occurred, based on the concepts of normal science and Thomas Kuhn paradigm. The following results were obtained, mapped and followed by the social network analysis (SNA): a) the theories that compose the Modern Finance Theory have their constitution anomalous concerning the paradigms; b) in the normal course of science, response to crisis was through new finance and its behavior model; c) the results presented between the dichotomy full and limited rationality in finance fit in the concept of normal science, according to its building course; d) Finance is a research area that has already presented its scientific paradigm; e) the comparison between the periods of published research and the knowledge building, in various moments, occurs through pre-paradigmatic periods, and its first divergence point was defined based on the real behavior factor. The answer was the insurgence and the insertion of behavior models in agents' decisions, which appeared in publications only in the last two decades, even under questionings of the dominant paradigm. ▼ Organizations providing social services have gained prominence in society, because the amount continues to increase significantly in recent years. Within this ever-growing scope are religious institutions, maintainers of multinational educational organizations, and this reflects the need for appropriate management practices. The budget is a management tool that assists the managers in the planning and monitoring of the activities in each period and may generate satisfactory results if properly used, including in the third sector. In this way, this research aims to propose a model of evaluation of the institutionalization stage of the budget for religious institutions. Therefore, in the light of the Institutional Theory, especially of its strand New Institutional Sociology (NIS), a qualitative research was carried out with a single case study in a confessional university belonging to the third sector. The institutional evaluation model of Tolbert & Zucker (1999) was combined with the study of the institutional contradictions of Seo & Creed (2002) and Wanderley and Soeiro (2016) for a better understanding of the success or failure of the institutionalization of the artefact. The methods of data collection were documental analysis, interviews with the managers responsible for every stage involving the budget and questionnaires for managers of departments. The results showed that the procedural institutional dimension presents fundamental aspects to be improved, such as the exercise of the multiple functions of the budget; Users of the budget are heterogeneous, a feature that favors institutionalization; the theorizing, the variance of implementation and a rate of failure was identified as low, in addition to promoting a total institutionalization of artefact, however a lot of disabilities had been encountered. The analyzes pointed out ceremonial aspects of the budget, its low diffusion and the existence of strong coercive isomorphism, due to the controller company determine the use of the budget to all controlled companies through REA. Given the perception of a low level of institutional contradictions, it can be considered that the institutionalization of the use of the budget was by legitimacy, but that analyzed according to the three institutional pillars of Scott (2001), a limitation in the model of Seo and Creed (2002), because by the Cultural-Cognitive pillar the institutionalization was unsuccessful, but by the Regulatory and Normative pillars there was institutionalization of the artifact, which indicates the institutionalization of the budget was partially successful. The thesis will explore the following questions:  How do the PR-agencies uses relationship marketing to reach out with their knowledge to their potential customers?  Are the any differences between their promotions when it comes to the agencies orientation? Theoretical framework: The chapter begins with a definition of Public Relations. After that a framework of Relationship Marketing theory is made with headlines as relations, interaction and networking. Method: A qualitative research method, with a deductive approach, has been implemented. Four PR-agencies - Gullers Grupp, Halvarsson & Halvarson, JKL, Prime and a consultant have all been interviewed on the subject. Empirical: The empirical framework presents the outcome of the interviews framework: with the four agencies and the consultant. The respondents give their agencies version on how they use marketing to reach out to the right customers. This is presented in the same way as in the theoretical framework Conclusion: Developed empirical shows that relationship marketing is the primary foundation in a successful PR work. It is the PR-agencies well-adapt network that generates qualified co-workers and which, in turn, contributes to the right customers for the PR-agency. We can establish that there is no general description of Public Relations and we dare to assert that this is based on the complexity in the PR-activities. With the findings of that relationship marketing permeates the entire PR-industry, we can see that the activities that agencies use varies to their orientation, values and amount of trust. The empirical framework also highlights that the PR-industry does not use their full potential to acquire the right customers and especially to clarify the complex and different orientations. PR-agencies also tend to exclude traditional advertising and solely focus on Public Relation for its own marketing purposes.

▼ Reliable design of gas and/or steam injection for enhanced oil recovery requires compositional reservoir simulation, in which phase behavior of reservoir fluids is represented by an equation of state (EOS). Various methods for reservoir fluid characterization using an EOS have been proposed in the literature. Conventional characterization methods addressed the challenge of the reliable prediction of the condensation/vaporization mechanisms in gas injection processes. It is even more challenging to characterize reservoir fluids for multiphase behavior consisting of three hydrocarbon phases. Complex multiphase behavior was observed experimentally for many gas floods. The importance of considering multiphase behavior in gas flooding simulation was also demonstrated in the literature. However, no systematic method has been proposed, especially for three-phase characterization. The main objective of this research is to develop a reliable method for multiphase fluid characterization using an EOS. The Peng-Robinson EOS is used with the van der Waals mixing rules in this research. The fluid types considered are gas condensate, volatile oil, black oil, heavy oil, and bitumen. The most important difference from the conventional methods is that, in this research, reservoir fluids are characterized by perturbation of the EOS model that has been calibrated for n-alkanes, in the direction of increasing level of aromaticity. This methodology is referred to as perturbation from n-alkanes (PnA), and used consistently throughout the dissertation. The experimental data required for the characterization methods presented in this dissertation are the saturation pressure and liquid densities at a given temperature, in addition to compositional information. Other types of experimental data, such as minimum miscibility pressures, liquid dropout curves, and three-phase envelopes, are used to test the predictive capability of the PR EOS models resulting from the PnA method. First, the PnA method is applied to simpler phase behavior that involves only two phases of vapor and liquid. The Peng-Robinson EOS is calibrated for vapor pressures and liquid densities for n-alkanes from C7 to C100. Two different characterization methods are developed for two-phase characterization using the PnA method. In one of them, fluid characterization is performed by adjusting critical pressure, critical temperature, and acentric factor. In the other, fluids are characterized by directly adjusting the attraction and covolume parameters for each pseudocomponent. Then, the PnA method is extended to three phases. Unlike for two phases, the Peng-Robinson EOS is calibrated for three-phase data measured for n-alkane/n-alkane and CO2/n-alkane binaries. A new set of binary interaction parameters (BIPs) is developed for these binaries, and applied for reservoir fluid characterization. ▼ In 1989 the American Surrealist associated painter, sculptor, and writer Dorothea Tanning (1910-2012) suggested an intermedial dimension to her multifaceted œuvre in her essay ‘Some Parallels in Word and Pictures.’ Taking this essay as a critical point of departure, this thesis offers an intertextual theorisation of Tanning’s practice. It concerns the role of narrative in her work, and the way in which she borrows from the histories of art and literature as source materials. The thesis presented here is that Tanning’s work from the context of Surrealism and beyond makes reference to the fairy tales and other, more extensive works of literature which she read in her youth whilst at work in her public library in Galesburg, Illinois, whether implicitly in visual references or explicitly in her works’ titles. Throughout, the library is read as a key source of inspiration. This is true too of the impact which Tanning’s belated visit to the Louvre had on her post-Surrealist stylistic development. Broadly, this thesis aims to rethink the methodologies used to interpret Surrealism, and reunite the literary and visual aspects upon which the Surrealist movement was initially founded. This interdisciplinary approach contributes fresh perspectives by marrying the history of Surrealism with that of the fairy tale, including that of Lewis Carroll, Hans Christian Andersen, and the fairy tale illustrations of Gustave Doré, Maxfield Parrish, Arthur Rackham, and John Tenniel. The anti-fairy tale emerges as useful critical tool in defining the intertext which appears when Surrealism and the fairy tale are paired. The ‘demythologising’ project of Angela Carter is useful to call upon in the articulation of the anti-fairy tale, and her work is easily placed in dialogue with that of Tanning, especially in terms of its feminist leanings. The dialogic, intertextual theories of Mikhail Bakhtin, further developed by Julia Kristeva and Roland Barthes, support this reading of Tanning’s visual narratives. More recently such theories of intertextuality have manifested themselves in the work of Dutch narratologist Mieke Bal who proposes a model of ‘preposterous history’ in order to creatively re-read the relationship between source (or pre-text) and intertext. This research is primarily text-based and devotes long-awaited attention to Tanning’s literary works which are read visually, including her short story ‘Blind Date’ (1943), and her novel 'Abyss' (1977), later reworked and republished as 'Chasm: A Weekend' (2004). I argue that her novel provides textual continuity with her Surrealist visual narratives of the 1940s creating a more cyclical, ‘preposterous’ shape to her career than has previously been acknowledged.
