The Cysteine-rich protein, Connective tissue growth factor, and Nephroblastoma overexpressed protein (CCN) family of matricellular proteins are signaling molecules found in the extracellular space, which can have pro-angiogenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties. Their expression and role in repair and remodeling after myocardial infarction (MI) remains to be better elucidated. In this study, the age-associated expression of Nov (CCN3) and Wisp1 (CCN4) were examined post-MI in mice. Methods and Results. In vivo, MI was induced in young (6 week) and old (12-14 months) mice. Cardiac function was assessed by echocardiography, showing that LVEF was reduced in old mice (33.9%) at 14 days post-MI compared to young mice (43.9%; p=0.002). RT-qPCR analysis of harvested myocardial tissue revealed that mRNA expression of several matricellular proteins in healthy tissue was decreased by 2.5- to 5-fold in old compared to young mice (p=0.03 for Nov, p=0.04 for Wisp1, p=0.0002 for TnC, p=0.04 for TSP-1). Post-MI, mRNA expression of Nov was reduced in the infarct (by up to 13-fold; p<0.03) and border zone (by up to 16-fold; p<0.002) in old compared to young mice. Nov and Wisp1 protein expression was also reduced in old compared to young mice in the infarct and border zones; specifically, for Nov in the infarct zone (p=0.01) and the border zone (p=0.009) at 2 days post-MI and for Wisp1 in the infarct zone at 2 days (p=0.0003) and 14 days (p=0.003), along with 7 days post-MI in the border zone (p=0.0003). To identify possible sources of matricellular proteins, in vitro culture experiments were performed. The expression of Nov protein was increased (1.9-fold; p=0.006) in TGF-B stimulated cardiac fibroblasts after 48h, as was the expression of the myofibroblast marker a-SMA (1.7-fold; p=0.035). Wisp1 mRNA expression was increased (4.5-fold; p=0.03) in stimulated cardiac fibroblasts after 48h in a hypoxic environment. There was also a trend for increased mRNA expression of Nov (p=0.118) and Wisp1 (p=0.121) in M2 macrophages. Cardiac fibroblasts treated with Nov+TGF-B exhibited greater proliferation (by 29%; p0.01), as did those treated with Wisp1+TGF-B (by 16%; p<0.05). Treatment with Nov or Wisp1 led to an increase in viability of cardiac fibroblasts both in the presence (Nov; p=0.0004, Wisp1; p=0.01) and absence of TGF-B (Nov; p=0.0005, Wisp1; p=0.003). Summary. There is an age-associated difference in the expression of matricellular proteins Nov and Wisp1 between both healthy and MI mice. In vitro studies suggest that cardiac fibroblasts may produce Nov and Wisp1 upon their activation to myofibroblasts. The presence of these proteins was also shown to increase the proliferation and viability of fibroblasts. Therefore, reduced levels of Nov and Wisp1 in old mice may negatively affect the repair and remodeling process post-MI compared to young mice. ▼ Delottococcus aberiae (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) es un pseudocóccido invasor originario del África subsahariana que fue detectado causando graves daños en cítricos del este de España en el año 2009. Debido al desconocimiento existente sobre esta especie, la gestión de D. aberiae se ha llevado a cabo mediante el uso de tratamientos químicos autorizados contra este tipo de insectos. Sin embargo, la última Directiva Europea (2009/128/EC) sobre el uso sostenible de productos fitosanitarios estipula que la aplicación de plaguicidas en el ámbito agrícola debe reducirse, promoviendo estrategias de manejo más sostenibles como es la aplicación del control biológico de plagas. Además, cuando una especie invasora llega por primera vez a un territorio es necesario estudiar su biología, comportamiento, daños causados y posibilidades de control. En esta tesis se presentan por primera vez estos estudios de biología y comportamiento de la plaga así como un análisis de los daños producidos por D. aberiae. También se han realizado estudios con el objetivo de implementar la aplicación de un programa de control biológico clásico sobre esta especie en cítricos en España.
Para analizar la biología y comportamiento de D. aberiae se han muestreado durante tres años varias parcelas de cítricos con poblaciones de D. aberiae en la Comunidad Valenciana. En estas parcelas se han recogido muestras y contabilizado todos los pseudocóccidos presentes, su estadío de desarrollo y el estrato y órgano del árbol donde se encontraban. El periodo de daños al fruto fue estudiado en semicampo y campo mediante la infestación artificial con D. aberiae de frutos de distintos tamaños de diámetro. Por último se estudió el comportamiento y las posibilidades de control biológico de D. aberiae muestreando diversas parcelas de cítricos en su zona de origen (Sudáfrica).
Los resultados mostraron que la abundancia de las poblaciones de D. aberiae en cítricos es elevada en primavera y verano, reduciéndose a niveles mucho más bajos en otoño e invierno. Además el insecto completa varias generaciones a lo largo del año, estando dos de ellas muy claramente definidas y siendo las que dan lugar a elevadas poblaciones de la plaga. En cuanto a su distribución, D. aberiae se instaló principalmente en la copa del árbol y se observaron migraciones entre los distintos órganos, mostrando una clara preferencia por el fruto en desarrollo. Entre febrero y septiembre parte de las poblaciones de D. aberiae se encontraron en tronco y suelo, existiendo movimientos de subida y de bajada a la copa en función de la fenología de la planta y las condiciones climáticas.
La comparativa entre técnicas de muestreo reveló que las trampas de cartón corrugado proporcionan una medida cuantitativa de la abundancia de D. aberiae en las parcelas. Por su parte, las trampas pegajosas, provistas de hembras de D. aberiae, fueron capaces de detectar los principales vuelos de machos. ▼ Tämä opinnäytetyön aihe on I/O-liityntöjen ja kenttäväyliin liitettyjen laitteiden testausohjeet. Työ tehtiin Valmet Automationille. I/O-liitynnät, I/O-laitteet ja kenttäväyliin liitetyt laitteet muodostavat Valmetin automaatiotoimitusten laitekokonaisuudet. Testausohjeiden tarkoitus on toimia yleisesti kattavina ohjeina tyypillisimmille projektitoimituksille. Laitteiston perusteellinen testaus on olennainen osa Valmetin projektin toimitusprosessia. Testausohjeilla pyritään tehostamaan laitteiston testausprosessia, ja varmistamaan turvallisuus.
Testaus tapahtuu kahdessa vaiheessa. Laitteistolle tehdään ensin tehdaskoestus Valmetin toimitiloissa. Laitteiston tehtaaseen asennuksen jälkeen suoritetaan käyttöönottotestaus. Tämä opinnäytetyö sisältää testausohjeet projektin molempiin vaiheisiin. Testausohjeiden laatimiseksi seurattiin usean projektin tehdaskoestusta ja yhden projektin käyttöönottotestausta.
Tuotetut testausohjeet ovat salassapidettäviä, ja ne jäävät Valmetin käyttöön. Opinnäytetyö ei sisällä testausohjeita. Tämän opinnäytetyön julkaistavassa raporttiosiossa käsitellään testausohjeiden tekoprosessi ja testausohjeiden sisältö yleisesti. Työhön kuuluu myös sähkötyöturvallisuuden huomioiminen tehdaskoestuksessa ja käyttöönotossa. Sähkötyöturvallisuuden varmistaminen huomioitiin testausohjeissa, ja sähkötyöturvallisuutta käsitellään raporttiosiossa. EU:n konedirektiivin ja siihen liittyvien standardien vaatimukset ovat myös osa tätä työtä. Direktiivin vaatimukset ohjasivat testausohjeiden laatimista, ja opinnäytetyöhön sisältyy direktiivissä käsitelty vikatilanneanalyysi.; The topic of this thesis is Testing manuals for I/O interfaces and devices connected to fieldbus. Thesis was produced for Valmet Automation. Hardware of automation systems delivered by Valmet consists of I/O interfaces, I/O devices and devices connected to fieldbus. The purpose for testing manuals is to serve as universally comprehensive instructions for typical projects delivered by Valmet. Thorough testing of the hardware is essential part of the project delivery process of Valmet. Testing manuals aim at optimizing and securing the testing process of the hardware.
Testing is done in two parts. At first, factory acceptance testing is done in facility of Valmet. Site acceptance testing is done after hardware has been installed in factory. This thesis includes testing manuals for the both phases of testing. Factory acceptance testing of several projects and site acceptance testing of one project were observed to produce testing manuals.
Produced testing manuals are confidential and remain in the use of Valmet. Process of producing testing manuals and general content is included in published report of this thesis. Part of thesis was also electrical work safety in factory acceptance testing and deployment. Ensuring electrical work safety was acknowledged in testing manuals and electrical work safety is covered in report. Ananalytical aproach to La voz a ti debida of Pedro Salinas" was read by JoaquinCorencia Cruz at the Boardroom of the Faculty of Philology in the University ofValencia (Spain) on 7th November 2008.It starts with an outline of the thesis itself which is followed by someintroductory prologues devoted to the poet Pedro Salinas (1891-1951), to his firstcollections of poems and to La voz a ti debida (1933) and its place among the worksof the poet and its importance in the aesthetic context of his generation. I analyse how the authors of Deliberative Democracy treat the relation between public reason and non public reasons within our pluralistic societies. In the first part
I expose the Deliberative Democracy's state of arts.
I proceed explaining its main lines of development: the republican tank, represented by Barber; the liberal one, with John Rawls, Amy Gutmann and Dennis Thompson as its main authors; and the discursive, which main thinker is Habermas. There are other authors in this theory of democracy, but their theories can't be included in these main groups: James Fishkin, Jane Mansbridge or Robert Goodin, for instance. So, we can see that the Deliberative Democracy is a theory with a great heterogeneity. All these authors develop in their work several subjects, as the epistemic value of deliberation, the models of political participation, the idea of person, the public reason, the consensus, civil society or the influence of the inequality of resources in the deliberation. However, the approaches of the different authors on these subjects are antagonic. For instance, some of the support direct participation and others the representation. That leads me to conclude the dialectic character of this theory of democracy. Concerning to the relation between public reason and non public reasons, all the authors maintain a liberal approach: it's compulsory to expose reasons that all citizens could accept in public debate. From this point, in the Second Part
I deepen on the idea of public reason developed from the liberal point of view, to find the sources of this idea. To this end,
I study the works of several authors as John Rawls, Robert Audi, Nicholas Wolterstorff, Paul Weithman or Kent Greenawalt. The debate among these thinkers allow us to recognise new ways to approach the idea of public reason further the way used by the deliberative democrats. Therefore,
I conclude that we need to review the approaches developed by the deliberative democrats concerning the presence of non public reasons within the public reason in our multicultural societies.

I have begun with in this research and that is (explicitly or implicitly) present in all my PhD is if we can find "hermeneutical presuppositions" in Charles Taylor moral and political philosophy and if identifying these hermeneutical presuppositions makes his ethical and political claims more understandable for modern society, and, all in all, if it is a viable proposal for an intercultural society (the aspect that has motivated this research).The general objectives are:1) Getting to the bottom of the hermeneutical presuppositions of Charles Taylor's moral and political philosophy.2) Discovering the critical nerve in the understanding and accounting for how it takes shape in the hermeneutical presuppositions.3) Situating Taylor's philosophy in modern philosophical hermeneutics and focusing on Taylor's contribution inside this tradition.4) Exploring the possibilities and limitations of Charles Taylor hermeneutical approach in dialogue with authors from other traditions such as Paul Ricoeur, Jürgen Habermas, Alasdair MacIntyre and Richard Rorty.The main conclusions of the PhD are:1) Hermeneutics is the approach through which Taylor characterizes his philosophical anthropology. Hermeneutics allows us to find the presuppositions in order to understand man properly, but also it is in itself a presupposition of the philosophy of Taylor. 2) Four human features can be highlighted in the philosophical anthropology of Taylor: self-interpreting animal, dialogical self, moral agent and narrative self. (Chapter 1, 2, 3 and 4)3) The philosophical position of Charles Taylor can be understood as hermeneutical realism. This is a realism embedded in human experience, which is always interpretative. The potential of this hermeneutics appears in the intercultural field (Chapter 5)4) The concept of moral for Taylor lies in the tradition of hermeneutics. A hermeneutics that does not renounce the moral point of view but which seeks to integrate it into a broader philosophical reflection on the sources of morality. (Chapter 6)5) Practical reason, individual and collective identity, social irreductible goods, significative freedom and modernity are some of the moral and political issues that are better illuminated and more defendable from the hermeneutical approach. (Chapters 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).

▼ The doctoral dissertation’s aim is to accomplish a historical - philosophical review of the concept of ridiculous and of his implications as political instrument. First of all it must be annotated what is understood for "ridiculous", distinguishing it from the general phenomenon of laughter. After the psychological and ontological investigation, the theoretical category of "ridiculous" is analyzed from a sociological perspective. In the first two parts of the dissertation there is carried out a critique of the most out-standing thinkers who have dealt with the topic. In the third part the deduced categories of this historical - philosophical review are applied to the contemporary world, studying the uses of the category of ridiculous on the democratic system.

Ananalytical aproach to La voz a ti debida of Pedro Salinas" was read by JoaquinCorencia Cruz at the Boardroom of the Faculty of Philology in the University ofValencia (Spain) on 7th November 2008.It starts with an outline of the thesis itself which is followed by someintroductory prologues devoted to the poet Pedro Salinas (1891-1951), to his firstcollections of poems and to La voz a ti debida (1933) and its place among the worksof the poet and its importance in the aesthetic context of his generation. Then thethesis moves on to analyze this poem from the point of view of a poetic macrotext,studying the genre of the canzoniere according to Arcadio López-Casanova's theoriesand methodology and using as well Gérard Genette's terminology and methodologyabout transtextualities.From this starting point, the thesis examines in chapter II the poem's dispositioand its paratextual elements: the title as a cataphoric and intertextual sign, the subtitle-POEMA- as an example of architextuality, the quotations from other authors(Garcilaso de la Vega, Shelley) and their contexts, the index, the note on the half-titlepage about "Amor en vilo" etc.In the following chapters there is an exhaustive analysis of the structuralelements: the lyrical subjects and actors are analyzed in chapter III; the topic, theleitmotivs, the "fragment portico" and a proposal of a sequence semantic-textual areseen in chapter IV; the topics of love and the symbols of the shadows and the worldare studied in chapter V whereas chapter VI deals with renewed metrical models andmetrics in general paying special attention to some grammatical figures as rhythmicalcomplements.After the appropriate conclusions in chapter VII, the thesis includes anexhaustive appendix in chapter VIII, a critical-analytical and corrected edition of Lavoz a ti debida with a close study and comments of each of the lyric fragments.The bibliography has been included in the IX and last chapter.

I analyse how the authors of Deliberative Democracy treat the relation between public reason and non public reasons within our pluralistic societies. In the first part
I expose the Deliberative Democracy's state of arts.
I proceed explaining its main lines of development: the republican tank, represented by Barber; the liberal one, with John Rawls, Amy Gutmann and Dennis Thompson as its main authors; and the discursive, which main thinker is Habermas. There are other authors in this theory of democracy, but their theories can't be included in these main groups: James Fishkin, Jane Mansbridge or Robert Goodin, for instance. So, we can see that the Deliberative Democracy is a theory with a great heterogeneity. All these authors develop in their work several subjects, as the epistemic value of deliberation, the models of political participation, the idea of person, the public reason, the consensus, civil society or the influence of the inequality of resources in the deliberation. However, the approaches of the different authors on these subjects are antagonic. For instance, some of the support direct participation and others the representation. That leads me to conclude the dialectic character of this theory of democracy. Concerning to the relation between public reason and non public reasons, all the authors maintain a liberal approach: it's compulsory to expose reasons that all citizens could accept in public debate. From this point, in the Second Part
I deepen on the idea of public reason developed from the liberal point of view, to find the sources of this idea. To this end,
I study the works of several authors as John Rawls, Robert Audi, Nicholas Wolterstorff, Paul Weithman or Kent Greenawalt. The debate among these thinkers allow us to recognise new ways to approach the idea of public reason further the way used by the deliberative democrats. Therefore,
I conclude that we need to review the approaches developed by the deliberative democrats concerning the presence of non public reasons within the public reason in our multicultural societies.

▼ This thesis explores the setup of the idea of brazilian culture and its relations with the formation of a latin-american imaginary from a literary perspective and between the time of the country’s independence in 1822 till the intelectual debates in the 80’s and the 90’s in Brazil.Thus, the inner tensions of the discourse of modernity are analyzed through a wide corpus, showing the clash between the culmination of a cultural enunciative articulation grounded on the power of the optical and the monumentality, on the one hand; and, on the other hand, the horizontal dissemination that cultural hibridation implies. These antithetic models give way to patterns of cultural interpretation which crosses the aesthetic with the political discourses, making up altogether a dense studding in which the historical formation of the significant-Brazil is set.In order to examine these interrelations, the study focuses attention on the longlasting essay tradition of national interpretation, where an ontologic policy is established to clearly define the “national ethos” through the textual practice of historiography. However, in the same textual corpus of essays it is also recognizeable the location of a resilient discourse to the modern idea of nation as a cultural whole which embraces both aesthetics and politics in the practice of historiography. The essays read open a path for a deconstructive critic of the ideas of Nation, Culture and the metanarrative of History, through riveting allegories of split-up time, which question the possibility of an order for literature and a History of cultural objects.Trhough the three foremost landmarks in Brazilian history – the Belle Époque, the avant-garde Modernismo of the 20’s and the decades of the 60’s and 70’s – the thesis seeks to provide a spanning vision of the quest for a cultural identity and the critical aproach of that idea from a textual hibridation perspective, which defy the genders and the classical positions of literature, politics and aesthetics, as shown in Os Sertões, by Euclides da Cunha, Casa Grande e Senzala, by Gilberto Freyre and the critic works of Haroldo de Campos, Silviano Santiago, Antonio Candido and Angel Rama.

▼ This thesis explores the setup of the idea of brazilian culture and its relations with the formation of a latin-american imaginary from a literary perspective and between the time of the country’s independence in 1822 till the intelectual debates in the 80’s and the 90’s in Brazil.Thus, the inner tensions of the discourse of modernity are analyzed through a wide corpus, showing the clash between the culmination of a cultural enunciative articulation grounded on the power of the optical and the monumentality, on the one hand; and, on the other hand, the horizontal dissemination that cultural hibridation implies. These antithetic models give way to patterns of cultural interpretation which crosses the aesthetic with the political discourses, making up altogether a dense studding in which the historical formation of the significant-Brazil is set.In order to examine these interrelations, the study focuses attention on the longlasting essay tradition of national interpretation, where an ontologic policy is established to clearly define the “national ethos” through the textual practice of historiography. However, in the same textual corpus of essays it is also recognizeable the location of a resilient discourse to the modern idea of nation as a cultural whole which embraces both aesthetics and politics in the practice of historiography. ▼ Recent observations indicate that drugs of abuse, including alcohol and opiates,
impair adult neurogenesis in the hippocampus. The purpose of this work was
studying the impact of cocaine and toluene treatment on cell proliferation,
survival and maturation in rats. Furthermore the ultrastructural effects caused
by these two drugs have also been analyzed in the dentate gyrus. And finally
the behavioural study of the effect of a chronic administration of toluene.
The studies with cocaine focused on the effect of treatments following shortterm
(8-day) and long-term (24-day) exposure. With this drug one concluded
that both short- and long-term cocaine exposures significantly reduced cell
proliferation in the dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampus, but the survival, the
maturation and the ultrastructural of the dentate gyrus was not affected by this
drug. In register with this finding, cocaine chronic exposure did not increase the
number of apoptotic cells, so this drug did not alter the cell death. Moreover,
cocaine did not produce significant morphological alterations of the mossy fiber
projection system to “stratum lucidum” in the CA3 area of the hippocampus.
On the other hand, two experiments were carried out with toluene. In the first
one the toluene was administered for 24 days and, in the second one, the drug
was inhaled by adult rats for 72 days and by their pups during their
development and postnatal early stage.
In the study of toluene for 24 days an increase in the cell survival and in
maturation was observed in treated rats. And in comparison with these in the
experiment for 72 days a decrease on cell survival was observed in pups but
not in the adult rats, and in concordance with these the cell differentiation was
affected by toluene. In addition to this, the length of the dendritic arborization
was increased in the brain of the animals treated with toluene, in both, pups and
adult rats.
With these experiments we can conclude that the toluene induces oxidative
stress in the brain of the treated animals, and this stress produces an increase
in the cell death and as result of this an activation of the cells of astroglia and
microglia takes place.
In addition, the ultrastructural analyses using an electron microscopy showed a
disorganization of the granular layer of the dentate gyrus of the animals treated
with toluene, and an alteration was observed in the morphology of the granular
cells and variability in the shape of these cells.
Basing on the results of the behaviour experiments, it can be concluded that the
animals treated with toluene were showing hyperactivity, and their results in the
objects and place recognition test were worse than the ones obtained by the
control rats in pups, and no effect was observed in the adult rats.
To sum up, cocaine and toluene, under these specific treatments, affect the
neurogenesis of the hippocampus, but it would be necessary to r carry out
further experiments with these drugs to know the effects on the hippocampal
neurogenesis better.

▼ Fascioliasis pathogenesis depends on fluke burden and size. In human
hyperendemic zones, individual infection intensities can reach very high levels being
the majority of infected subjects in the advanced chronic phase. Wistar rat model has
been used due to the fact it offers a useful approach for pathological research in the
advanced chronic period in humans. 169 rats have been orally infected with 20
metacercariae/rat, developing the following tests: (
i) influence of infection intensity per
rat on fluke development (adult’s development, time between metacarcariae intake and
presence of eggs in faeces, and number of eggs per gramme of faeces and adult); (ii)
influence of lytiasis on the adult’s development; and (iii) influence of the experimental
definitive host genus on egg production. Ontogenetic trajectories of fluke body
measurements (AC, P, AnC and LoC), followed a logistic model. Results showed that
(
i) when burden increases, maximum values of fluke body measurements decrease; (ii)
crowding effect is apparent when fluke measurements approximate their maximums in
the advanced chronic stage; (iii) pre-patent period (pp) and egg production (hgh)
decrease when fluke burden increases, meaning that measurements of eggs per gramme
of faeces tend to underestimate the fluke burden; (iv) adults of F. hepatica reach a lower
body development when concomitant lytiasis is observed in liver ducts; (v) when
fasciolasis chronic stage, egg production is higher in Wistar rat females. Thus, intensity
of infection, lytiasis and definitive host genus are factors to take into consideraction
when studying the development of the adults of F. hepatica in Wistar model on an
advanced fasciolasis chronic stage. This quantification may be of great interest in both,
epidemiological studies and experimental research on the in vivo actions of different
anthelminthic drugs and vaccines, pathology, immunology and resistance studies.

when studying the development of the adults of F. hepatica in Wistar model on an
advanced fasciolasis chronic stage. This quantification may be of great interest in both,
epidemiological studies and experimental research on the in vivo actions of different
anthelminthic drugs and vaccines, pathology, immunology and resistance studies.

▼ Numerous solutions have been posed to address the risks that fractional reserve banking systems cause for depositors. The newest regulatory trend to combat these issues has been capital regulation. Many critics have accused capital regulation of increasing the natural procyclicality of bank loan supply. However, to date the literature appears to say little on whether or not the Basel
I capital regulations have any effect on the natural procyclicality of bank loan supply. To test this,
I constructed a new loan supply function to determine the relationship between the business cycle and the real loan supply. A Chow Test was then conducted to determine whether this relationship changed at the date of Basel
I implementation.
I found that this relationship increased significantly after the implementation of Basel
I, allowing me to conclude that the Basel
I capital regulations increased the natural procyclicality of bank loan supply.

▼ I denna studie har vi undersökt hur ett antal lärare på lågstadiet säger att de anpassar den pedagogiska miljön för elever med ADHD. Vi undersökte vilka pedagogiska strategier och stödstrukturer som lärare säger att de använder i undervisningen för att inkludera elever med ADHD. Undersökningen gjordes på både individ- och gruppnivå för att se hur olika anpassningar kan tillämpas på de olika nivåerna. Studien grundas på intervjuer med sex verksamma lärare på lågstadiet. Skolorna var belägna i mellersta Sverige varav den ena på landsbygden och den andra i en större stad. Lärarna fick svara på sju olika intervjufrågor som hade utgångspunkt i studiens forskningsfrågor. I denna studie ville vi få kunskap om olika anpassningar som tillämpas för elever med ADHD så att de inkluderas i den ordinarie undervisningen. I studien genomsyrar det sociokulturella perspektivet vilket också är studiens teoretiska utgångspunkt. Datainsamlingen analyserades med hjälp av tematisk analysmetod för att hitta återkommande mönster, likheter och skillnader. Resultatet i studien visar att det finns många olika anpassningar som en lärare kan tillämpa för att kunna undervisa den individuella eleven. Anpassningarna kan göras både på grupp- och individnivå för att helheten ska fungera.

▼ Veterinary medicine is an intense profession that begins with rigorous and demanding veterinary training. Within veterinary training, technical competencies generally receive more attention and emphasis than non-technical competencies, leaving many veterinarians at increased risk for compassion fatigue and other forms of mental illness. Two non-technical competencies that need further empirical investigation are communication and the influence of compassion on veterinarians. Communication is central to veterinary success; communication style was measured using the Communication Styles Inventory. Compassion has been recognized as having both positive effects (satisfaction) and negative effects (fatigue); compassion experiences were measured using a version of the Professional Quality of Life Scale. This research study investigated the relationship between compassion experiences and communication styles of 4th-year veterinarians-in-training using a canonical correlation analysis. Differences in compassion experiences and in communication styles among men and women veterinarians-in-training were investigated using 2 one-way MANOVAs. Results indicated that communication style of 4th-year veterinary students is statistically significantly related to their compassion experiences (<

▼ Single-stranded secondary structures have been of increasing importance. Until this past year, the study of the i-motif was far less investigated compared to the G-quadruplex. However, the discovery of in vivo i-motif formations in telomeric DNA has resurged investigations. The premier chapter of this dissertation, provides a background of the i-motif. The hierarchy of hemi-protonated dimers, constraints of loop length, importance of ionic environment, steric media, and pH all play significant roles in the formation and stabilization of the i-motif. Finally, a brief introduction to the biophysical techniques presented in this manuscript is provided.The second chapter concerns an array of small molecule interactions encompassing hydrogen bonding, intercalation, and phosphate interactions. The Morton laboratory has created novel compounds to interact with this structure. Each compound was halted in its study for different reasons, but the ground work provided allowed for future explorations.The penultimate chapter delves into the structure elucidation for the c-MYC coding region which creates the i-motif. As of this writing, the interactions of coding regions have not been explored. Due to the importance of superhelicity and the direct disruption of transcription, the coding region of such a prominent oncogene is of interest. Using mostly NOESY and TOCSY NMR experiments the structure of this i-motif can be gathered. It is important to note the structure does not provide the same level of detail that is often found within structural literature. However, the DNA bases in the unstructured loops, the hemi-protonated dimers of the core, and isomerization of the i-motif structure can be garnered.The final chapter utilizes the structural and biophysical information that has been explored and details the interaction of aplysinopsins with the DNA i-motif. In this exploration, it was found that the E and Z isomers of these products interact differently with the DNA i-motif. The interaction of the E isomer was tighter overall, but the interaction of the Z isomer seemed to bind in a specific way to the i-motif. An induced chirality, fluorescence increases/quenching, 31P NMR, and multi-dimensional NMR all point to an interaction with the i-motif that is trackable and can be manipulated.

▼ The purpose of this study was to achieve two objectives namely to determine the challenges of strategy implementation at Noble Sacco, Kenya and to establish the measures to deal with the strategy implementation challenges. This research was conducted through a case study design and the data obtained was analyzed by way of content analysis. The major findings were slow decision making, inadequate budgets, loss of income, resistance to change, and communication, lack of commitment and involvements, human capacity inadequacies, inadequate allocation of time during strategy implementation reviews among others were major obstacles to successful strategy implementation at Noble Sacco. In conclusion if the Sacco implements the proposed measures to deal with strategy implementation challenges, the Sacco will experience a robust growth and will enable her to achieve all the set strategic objectives at the end of the strategic plan period. To effectively implement strategy the study recommends the Sacco to involve all stakeholders in budgeting, strategy formulation and implementation, adequate allocation of resources, adequate time allocation during the periodic strategy implementation reviews, better communication systems, diversification of products and membership base among others.

▼ Tämä opinnäytetyö käsittelee opinnäytetyökonserttiani, jonka keskiössä on tanskalaisen säveltäjän Per Nørgårdin I Ching -teoksen kolmas osa ”The gentle, the penetrating”. Opinnäytetyö koostuu taiteellisesta ja kirjallisesta osuudesta, joista taiteellisen osuuden toteutin ”Mahdollisuuksia” -nimisenä konserttina, jossa lyömäsoitinmusiikki, äänisuunnittelu ja valot yhdistyivät monitaiteelliseksi kokonaisuudeksi. Opinnäytetyökonsertin tallenne löytyy Tampereen konservatorion kirjastosta.
Kirjallinen osuus taustoittaa Per Nørgårdin maailmankatsomusta hänen sävellystyönsä taustalla keskittyen I Ching -teoksen kannalta keskeisiin aspekteihin ja ajanjaksoihin. Koska Per Nørgårdin I Ching -teos pohjautuu muinaiskiinalaiseen I Ching -oraakkelikirjaan, esittelen kirjan syntyhistoriaa ja rakennetta.
”Mahdollisuuksia”-konsertissani Nørgårdin teoksen ympärille valikoituivat John Cagen Improvisation for Frame Drum with or without Jingles sekä Arvo Pärtin Spiegel im Spiegel, jonka sovitin marimballe, pianolle ja crotaleksille.
Taiteellisen osuuden kokoavassa raportissa pohdin konsertin yleisen analyysin lisäksi rooleja ja haasteita, joita kohtasin suunnitellessani, valmistaessani ja toteuttaessani konserttiani. Tämän lisäksi keskityn pohtimaan konserttini pääteoksen eli Nørgårdin kappaleen kanssa läpikäymääni prosessia valmistelusta ja harjoittelusta aina sen esittämiseen saakka kuten myös sitä, mitä kaikkea uutta olen opinnäytetyöprosessin aikana oppinut.

The study consists of artistic and literal parts, the artistic side of which I made as a concert called “Mahdollisuuksia” (‘Options’) in which percussion music, audio design together with illuminations were combined as a polyartistical entity. An audiovisual documentary of that concert is to be found at the library of Tampere Conservatory.
The literal part of this study gives background information on Per Nørgård’s world view related to his main aspects and time periods during the composition process of ‘I Ching’.
Since Per Nørgård’s work ‘I Ching’ is based on ancient Chinese oracle writ-ings of the same name, I have included a short introduction of history and structure of that written work.
In addition to Nørgård, the other works in my “Mahdollisuuksia” concert were ‘Improvisation for Frame Drum with or without Jingles’ by John Cage, and ‘Spiegel im Spiegel’ by Arvo Pärt, the latter of which I arranged for marimba, piano and crotales.

I-sharing, or the perception that one has shared an identical subjective experience with another person, contributes to increased feelings of connectedness, liking, and prosocial behavior in relationships (Pinel & Long, 2012). Recent theorizing suggests that
I-sharing may be of clinical utility as a tool to support the development of the therapeutic alliance (Pinel, Bernecker, & Rampy, 2015). This study serves as an experimental follow-up to that paper and explores the impact of an in-vivo
I-sharing manipulation on ratings of therapeutic alliance, liking, perceptions of therapy, helping behavior, and existential isolation following a brief simulated clinical interview. Forty-two students enrolled in an introductory psychology course at a midsize university in Western Pennsylvania volunteered to participate in the research. Participants were randomly assigned to an
I-sharing or no
I-sharing condition, where
I-sharing was operationalized using an in-vivo modification of the Ink Blot task utilized in Huneke & Pinel’s (2016) previous
I-sharing research. Following completion of the task, participants engaged in a brief interview to simulate a clinical encounter. Videos of the interviews were reviewed to assess for consistency in the interviewer’s behavior between study conditions. Significant differences in ratings of liking and helping behavior emerged, such that individuals in the no
I-sharing condition rated the interviewer as more likeable and were more willing to engage in helping behavior than those in the
I-sharing condition. Video review showed significant differences in ratings of the interviewer’s behavior between conditions, where the interviewer was perceived more favorably in the no
I-sharing condition. Though no differences in ratings of the therapeutic alliance or perceptions of therapy emerged, there was a significant decrease in existential isolation from pre-interview to post-interview, and ancillary analyses revealed gender differences in baseline levels of existential isolation. Existential isolation was found to be a marginally significant predictor of ratings of the therapeutic alliance, which is consistent with recent findings on the negative relationship between existential isolation and attitudes regarding psychotherapy (Constantino, Sommer, Goodwin, Coyne, & Pinel, 2019). The results of this study are discussed within the context of informing clinical practice and bridging social and clinical psychology research.

▼ The study consists of two parts. The first part, gathers the theoretical and methodological referring of the investigation, which groups the concepts of the pedagogical practice, some aspects related to the origin, development and present state of thought, knowledge and pedagogical beliefs of the university professor and self efficacy, and the beliefs of educational self efficacy starting from Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory. The second part, explicit the descriptive, exploratory and compared study, emphasizing the boundary of the investigation, the description of the results of the comparative units analysed, the comparative study, the general conclusions, educative tendencies and the attached digital format and printed documents. Therefore the study after a state of question revision, formulates the global question that orients the compared study: To what extent the self efficacy beliefs correspond with the pedagogical practice of the educational university professor? ; and pursues the objective to describe and to analyze the beliefs of self efficacy in pedagogical practice of the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education and Countable, Economic and Administrative Sciences university professor, concerning universities in relation to relevant and significant issues. With such purpose two phases for the investigation are developed, first, the quantitative one, using the questionnaire of Leonor Prieto Navarro (2005, 2007) to obtain information about the beliefs of self efficacy in the pedagogical practice of the university professor; in the second, the qualitative one, the observation guides are used and focal groups interviewed. Which allow from the compared method, the juxtaposition of the quantitative and qualitative results and the combination among them.Ultimately, the exploration of the self efficacy beliefs in the pedagogical practice gives as a result a positive relation and emphasizes that the variables of greater effect in self efficacy are the responsibility assumed in learning, the level of professional satisfaction and the perception of the preparation level, fundamental academic variables in the evaluation of the self efficacy beliefs and in the processes of teacher formation.

▼ The thesis introduces a series of didactic proposals for the incorporation of the Valencian tradition of puppetry in literary and intercultural education itineraries in kindergarten and primary levels. After a first approach to the various definitions of the puppet and the attempts at classification, we make an assessment of the educational use of puppets in various parts of the world, particularly in relation to education in the literary and multicultural contents. From the proof of the universality of plastic and as a puppet stage and its educational potential, in the following chapter develops a historical research on the tradition of Valencia in connection with the puppets and an analysis of the presence of this educational tool in curriculum since 1970. Have also conducted a data collection survey in the form of teachers and students of teaching that reveals interesting findings regarding the use, perception and expectations about the puppet at school . From these components, we made a series of educational activities in which incorporated alternative way tradition and elements of various traditions in the world, to enhance education on tolerance, and positive acceptance of diversity.

▼ The Thesis has as a backdrop the great challenges that Higher education faces identified from the urgency to enter the society of knowledge, investigation policies and the necessity of pedagogical formation for university professors. The authors consulted who make pertinent contributions in the fundamental subjects of this doctoral thesis such as Metacognition (Flavell 1971), Mayor, Suengas and González (1995) among others. On learning strategies, Monereo, (1997) Poso (2008) Beltrán (1998) and others. The study object concentrated in the Application of a disciplinary pedagogical Program of Metacognition and Learning Strategies, as a cause of the high academic performance of the participants in the Experimental Groups of the Professional careers of Nursing and Social Work.
The hypothesis raised on a high academic performance of the Experimental Groups with which the Program Was applied, had better academic performance than the Control groups. This hypothesis was put under a probabilistic mathematical study, with the statistical study it was possible to verify with the logic of cause and effect, where the cause is considered the Application of the Metacognition Program and Learning Strategies and the effect the high academic performance.
Methodological Design: quantitative and qualitative, analytical empirical and a historical hermeneutic - interpretative comprehensive approach. Experimental type and explanatory level. Comparison factors between Experimental and Control Groups: the psychological profile identified by the General Aptitudes, Intelligence and personality, number of students of Experimental and Control groups, genre and ownership to the career. From the paradigmatic dialogue quantitative and qualitative type results were obtained; from the quantitative, the results of the Psychological profile and from the qualitative, a Metacognitive conscience in the university students offering the guidelines for the learning and teaching of Learning Strategies. The qualitative and quantitative conclusions raised favor the Application of the Metacognition Program and Learning Strategies in Higher Education. ▼ The main objective of this work has been to investigate the preserved pragmatic categories in aphasic speakers using conversations between the speaker and a conversational partner in a natural, spontaneous context using this as the corpus makes it possible to determine the ecological validity of the data collected. Through the study of the mentioned categories we want to confirm if there is a pragmatic deficit that we could link with aphasia and to prove which of these categories are those best preserved.
One of the main objectives of this thesis is to study the aphasia pragmatic state from a holistic and cross-disciplinary perspective where each phenomenon is considered from each diverse approach: Perceptive Linguistic (which requires an ecologic data analysis), Cognitive Neuropsychology (which founds on the results in statistical analysis) and Speech Therapy (which requires the application of the proposed theories).
We have analysed the pragmatic categories in 30 recordings, 15 of which are from fluent aphasia speakers and the other 15 are from non-fluent aphasia speakers. All of them interact with their usual speaker in a daily setting. The discriminatory value of fluency has been set according a formula established at seven words by turn.
These conversations have been compared to conversations of another 30 subjects who have no aphasic pathology in order to establish the differences between these two types of speakers: with aphasic pathology and without it. 15 of these recordings belong to conversational-partners of aphasic patients and the other 15 are colloquial conversations where none of the speakers have a linguistic impediment. The presence of a conversational partner is considered to be very important because though their interaction with the patient we can make sure it is possible to collect data of ecological validity, therefore, we can complete the traditional evaluation making an evaluation of the linguistic abilities of the aphasic speaker from a holistic perspective.
