[pt] Nos últimos anos, as bandas de frequências nas comunicações sem fio estão começando a saturar devido ao incremento do tráfego e o aumento dos usuários, é devido a isso que, é necessário estudar as bandas de frequências que não estão sendo utilizadas nas áreas das comunicações como a banda milimétrica e sub-milimétrica. A transmissão de dados na banda EHF o banda milimétrica constitui uma possível solução para conseguir transmitir maiores quantidades de informação a altas velocidades de transmissão aliviando as bandas de frequências atuais. Neste trabalho se estuda a transmissão de dados em frequências de 100, 200, 300 e 400 GHz, empregando a modulação Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying (QPSK) mediante uma arquitetura baseada no batimento de dois lasers, cujas frequências são combinadas em um Beam Splitter, para que a corrente resultante da soma dos campos elétricos dos dois lasers seja convertida em um sinal de alta frequência por meio de uma antena fotocondutora. O batimento dos dois lasers, com diferentes comprimentos de onda e com a mesma potência, ao interagir com uma antena fotocondutora dá como resultado uma frequência na ordem de Gigahertz. No experimento utilizaram-se dois tipos de diodos receptores, um de banda larga (menor que 4 GHz) e outro de banda estreita (menor que 1 MHz). As duas antenas foram testadas em diferentes distâncias e com diferentes frequências de portadora para verificar qual delas tinha o melhor desempenho na banda EHF para poder realizar a transmissão de dados.

[en] In recent years, the frequency bands in wireless communications are beginning to saturate due to the increase of traffic and the increase of users, and it for that reason that is necessary to study the frequency bands that are not begin used in the communication areas like millimeter and sub-millimeters bands. Data transmission in the EHF band is a possible solution to be able to transmit large amounts of information at high transmission speeds, alleviating current frequency bands. In this work, the transmission of data in frequencies of 100, 200, 300 and 400 Gigahertz is studied, using Quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) modulation with an architecture based on the beat of two lasers, whos frequencies are combined by means of Beam Splitter, so that result of the electric fields of two lasers is converted into a high frequency signal with the aid of a photoconductor antenna. The.beating of the two lasers, with different wavelengths and with the same power, when interacting with a photoconductor antenna results in a frequency in the order of Gigahertz. In the experiment, two types of receiver diodes were used, one Broadband (less than 4 GHz) and the other of narrowband (less than 1 MHz). The two antennas were tested at different distances and with different carrier frequencies to verify which one had the best performance in the EHF band in order to perform the data transmission.

With the advent of spectrally efficient wireless communication systems employing modulation schemes with varying amplitude of the communication signal, linearization techniques for nonlinear power amplifiers have gained significant interest. The availability of fast and cost effective digital processing technology makes digital predistortion attractive for power amplifier linearization since it promises high power efficiency and flexibility. Power amplifiers are most efficient in terms of delivered output power versus supplied power if driven near the saturation point. When driven near saturation, the power amplifier behaves as a nonlinear device, which introduces undesired distortions in the information signal. These nonlinear distortions degrade the system performance in terms of increased bit error rate and produce disturbance in adjacent channels. A compensation of the nonlinear distortions is therefore of significant importance, not only to keep the system performance high, but also to comply with regulatory specifications regarding the maximum allowed disturbance of adjacent channels. Nonlinear equalization at the receiver is possible but complicated due to the unknown effects of the channel. It is therefore easy to reduce the nonlinear distortions at the transmitter side. Different linearization methods exist which aim to reduce the nonlinear distortions while keeping the power amplifier in the nonlinear and efficient mode. Linearization by digital predistortion is a new method which applies digital signal processing techniques for compensating the nonlinear distortions. Digital predistortion task can be divided into three sub tasks: modeling of the power amplifier, adaptive identification of the model parameters, and development of the predistortion filter. These tasks have been addressed in this thesis. In the present study it has been observed that behavioral modeling approach is easy to model a power amplifier. Study shows that Volterra series can be most suitable to represent the actual behavior of non-linear power amplifier with memory. But as the order of memory polynomial increases, the number of Volterra terms also increases, resulting in the implementation complexity of Volterra series. The Memory Polynomial model, which is reduced form of Volterra series is most widely used by researchers but is complex to implement. The identification of coefficientsof Memory Polynomial is also a tedious task. So, in this thesis a simplified and easy to implement form of Memory Polynomial model of power amplifier has been proposed.

▼ Demand for data traffic on mobile networks is growing exponentially with time and on a global scale. The emerging fifth-generation (5G) wireless standard is being developed with millimeter-wave (mm-Wave) links as a key technological enabler to address this growth by a 2020 time frame. The wireless industry is currently racing to deploy mm-Wave mobile services, especially in the 28-GHz band. Previous widely-held perceptions of fundamental propagation limitations were overcome using phased arrays. Equally important for success of 5G is the development of low-power, broadband user equipment (UE) radios in commercial-grade technologies. This dissertation demonstrates design methodologies and circuit techniques to tackle the critical challenge of key phased array front-end circuits in low-cost complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. Two power amplifier (PA) proof-of-concept prototypes are implemented in deeply scaled 28- nm and 40-nm CMOS processes, demonstrating state-of-the-art linearity and efficiency for extremely broadband communication signals. Subsequently, the 40 nm PA design is successfully embedded into a low-power fully-integrated transmit-receive front-end module. The 28 nm PA prototype in this dissertation is the first reported linear, bulk CMOS PA targeting low-power 5G mobile UE integrated phased array transceivers. An optimization methodology is presented to maximizing power added efficiency (PAE) in the PA output stage at a desired error vector magnitude (EVM) and range to address challenging 5G uplink requirements. Then, a source degeneration inductor in the optimized output stage is shown to further enable its embedding into a two-stage transformer-coupled PA. The inductor helps by broadening inter-stage impedance matching bandwidth, and helping to reduce distortion. Designed and fabricated in 1P7M 28 nm bulk CMOS and using a 1 V supply, the PA achieves +4.2 dBm/9% measured Pout/PAE at −25 dBc EVM for a 250 MHz-wide, 64-QAM orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal with 9.6 dB peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). The PA also achieves 35.5%/10% PAE for continuous wave signals at saturation/9.6dB back-off from saturation. To the best of the author’s knowledge, these are the highest measured PAE values among published K- and K a-band CMOS PAs to date. To drastically extend the communication bandwidth in 28 GHz-band UE devices, and to explore the potential of CMOS technology for more demanding access point (AP) devices, the second PA is demonstrated in a 40 nm process. This design supports a signal radio frequency bandwidth (RFBW) >3× the state-of-the-art without degrading output power (i.e. range), PAE (i.e. battery life), or EVM (i.e. amplifier fidelity). The three-stage PA uses higher-order, dual-resonance transformer matching networks with bandwidths optimized for wideband linearity. Digital gain control of 9 dB range is integrated for phased array operation. A detecção óptica coerente leva à coexistência de sinais com diferentes formatos de modulação e diferentes ritmos binários nas redes ópticas. Devido a essa coexistência vários cenários de diafonia homódina (in-band crosstalk) são possíveis. Neste trabalho, o impacto do in-band crosstalk devido a sinais interferentes com o for- mato de modulação em amplitude em quadratura (M-QAM) no desempenho do PDM-QPSK e PDM-16-QAM receptores coerentes a um ritmo binário agregado de 100 Gbps é estudado utilizando simulação Monte-Carlo. A precisão do método de magnitude do vector de erro (EVM) também é investigado na presença de in-band crosstalk, e revelou ser suficientemente preciso na estimação o nível de interferência que leva a uma penalidade de 1 dB na relação sinal-ruído óptico (OSNR) no receptor. No entanto, a precisão do método EVM foi dimin- uída, relativamente à estimativa da penalidade na OSNR devido a níveis de in-band crosstalk mais elevados. A influência do factor de duração de ciclo, do desalinhamento temporal e da diferença de fase entre o sinal interferência e o sinal seleccionado no desempenho do receptor é também avaliada. Mostra-se que o sinal QPSK com um factor de duração de ciclo de 33% é, em geral, o sinal seleccionado mais tolerante ao in-band crosstalk e o interferente menos prejudicial para o desempenho do receptor coerente. Mostramos também que o desalin- hamento temporal tem uma influência significativa no impacto do in-band crosstalk no desempenho do receptor coerente, quando o factor de duração de ciclo dos interferente ou do sinal seleccionado são baixos, e a diferença de fase tem impacto quase desprezável na variação da penalidade de OSNR.

Optical coherent technology leads to the coexistence of signals with different modulation formats and different bit rates in optical networks. Due to this coexistence several in-band crosstalk scenarios are possible. In this work, the impact of in-band crosstalk due to M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) interferers on the performance of PDM-QPSK and PDM-16-QAM coherent receivers at an aggregated bit rate of 100 Gbps is studied using Monte Carlo simulation. The accuracy of the error vector magnitude method is also investigated in presence of in-band crosstalk and it revealed to be sufficiently accurate for the estimation of the crosstalk level that leads to a 1 dB Optical Signal-to-Noise ratio (OSNR) penalty at the receiver. However, the EVM method accuracy was diminished, concerning the estimation of the OSNR penalty due to higher crosstalk levels. The influence of the duty-cycle, time misalignment and phase difference between interferers and selected signal on the receiver performance is also assessed. We show that the QPSK signal with a duty-cycle of 33% is, generally, the most tolerant selected signal to in-band crosstalk and the less detrimental interferer to the coher- ent receiver performance. L’objectif de ce travail de recherche est de concevoir un amplificateur de puissance sur la base de considérations électrothermiques. Il décrit la question du dynamique EVM et du « paquet long » lors de la conception de l’amplificateur avec des transistors bipolaires à hétérojonctions. Basé sur le comportement électrothermique du circuit, une méthode d’optimisation de l’EVM statique et dynamique est proposée. Un frontend RF complet (amplificateur de puissance + coupleur + interrupteur + amplificateur faible bruit) est conçu pour le dernier standard WLAN : le Wi-Fi 6. La distribution de temperature dynamique dans le circuit est analysée. Son effet sur les performances de la puce est quantifié. Enfin, une polarisation adaptative programmable a été conçue pour garder des performances optimales sur toute la plage de température. Les mesures du circuit montre tout l’effet bénéfique de cette compensation, permettant de garder le dynamique EVM en dessous de -47 dB sur la plage de température ambiante de -40 à 85°C.

The aim of this work is to design a power amplifier based on electrothermal considerations. It describes the Dynamic Error Vector Magnitude challenge and long packet issue when designing a power amplifier with hetero-junction bipolar transistors. Based on the circuit electrothermal behavior, an optimization method of both the static and dynamic linearity is proposed. A complete RF front-end (PA + coupler + switch + LNA) is designed for the latest WLAN standard: the Wi-Fi 6. The dynamic temperature distribution in the circuit is analyzed. It’s impact on the performances is quantified. Finally, a programmable temperature dependent bias is designed to compensate for performance degradation. The measurements show a significant linearity improvement with this compensation, allowing the PA to maintain the DEVM lower than -47dB at 14.5 dBm output power, over a large ambient temperature range from -40°C to 85°C.

▼ With the increasing advancements in the digital technology, future wireless systems are promising to support higher data rates, higher mobile speeds, and wider coverage areas, among other features. While further technological developments allow systems to support higher computational complexity, lower power consumption, and employ larger memory units, other resources remain limited. One such resource, which is of great importance to wireless systems, is the available spectrum for radio communications. To be able to support high data rate wireless applications, there is a need for larger bandwidths in the spectrum. Since the spectrum cannot be expanded, studies have been concerned with fully utilizing the available spectrum. One approach to achieve this goal is to reuse the available spectrum through space, time, frequency, and code multiplexing techniques. Another approach is to optimize the transceiver design as to achieve the highest throughput over the used spectrum. From the physical layer perspective, there is a need for a highly flexible and efficient modulation technique to carry the communication signal. A multicarrier modulation technique known as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is one example of such a technique. OFDM has been used in a number of current wireless standards such as wireless fidelity (WiFi) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) standards by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and has been proposed for future 4G technologies such as the long term evolution (LTE) and LTE-advanced standards by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and the wireless world initiative new radio (WINNER) standard by the Information society technologies (IST). This is due to OFDM’s high spectral efficiency, resistance to narrow band interference, support for high data rates, adaptivity, and scalability. In this dissertation, OFDM and multiuser OFDM , also known as orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), techniques are investigated as a candidate for advanced wireless systems. Features and requirements of future applications are discussed in detail, and OFDM’s ability to satisfy these requirements is investigated. We identify a number of challenges that when addressed can improve the performance and throughput of OFDM-based systems. The challenges are investigated over three stages. In the first stage, minimizing, or avoiding, the interference between multiple OFDMA users as well as adjacent systems is addressed. An efficient algorithm for OFDMA uplink synchronization that maintains the orthogonality between multiple users is proposed. For adjacent channel interference, a new spectrum shaping method is proposed that can reduce the out-of-band radiation of OFDM signals. Both methods increase the utilization of available spectrum and reduce interference between different users. ▼ The aim of this thesis is to investigate whether there are associations between economically motivated crimes and macroeconomic variables. Economically motivated crimes include burglary, fraud and theft. Non-traffic offences are used as the measurement of overall crime levels, and an association between non-traffic offences and macroeconomic variables is analysed as well. Forecasting the number of people charged with burglary, fraud, theft and non-traffic offences is another objective of this thesis. Association between economically motivated crimes and the unemployment rate is also analysed at a regional level. Methods used in this thesis include Vector Autoregressive (VAR) models, Vector Error Correction Models (VECM) and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) models. VECM and VAR models are used to produce Granger-Causality tests and impulse responses in order to summarise the associations between crimes and macroeconomic variables. All modelling methods are used to generate forecasts. The conclusion from this thesis is that there are associations between crime and some macroeconomic variables at a national level. The biggest impact on crime is its own value in the past. The impact of macroeconomic variables is minor, and this makes the sign of the impact less important. In fact, the sign of the impact is hard to conclude because it moves between positive and negative in different periods. At a national level, the growth rate of unemployment causes the growth rate of burglary, theft and non-traffic charges. The association between unemployment and crime becomes insignificant once all macroeconomic variables are included. Overall, the growth rate of personal weekly average income or household debt and disposable income ratio (both measuring personal or household financial condition) causes an increase in the growth rate of burglary, theft and non-traffic charges. Movement of inflation causes an increase in the growth rate of fraud charges. At a regional level, growth in the unemployment rate causes an increase in theft charges in Auckland and Northland. In Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast, growth in the unemployment rate causes growth in burglary charges and vice versa. Growth in the unemployment rate causes growth in the rate of fraud charges, but this is found in Northland only. Forecasts produced by this study suggest that the number of people charged with burglary, theft, fraud and non-traffic offences will continue to decrease up until 2019, but at a lower rate of reduction. ▼ My three dissertation essays explore food security questions in Ethiopia, Philippines and India. Specifically, I estimate how food security responds to (1) land degradation in Ethiopian highlands, (2) domestic marketing policies in Philippines, and (3) trade protection policies in India. In my first paper, I merge environmental maps with geographically coded farmer survey data in Ethiopian highlands to estimate the effect of land degradation on the value of agricultural production. Because land degradation may be endogenous to agricultural production choices, this analysis explicitly controls for endogeneity using bequests and type of energy used for cooking as instrumental variables. I find that land degradation reduces agricultural value by 4 percent, which is smaller than when endogeneity is not accounted for. I also generate a differential impacts map based on the estimates from the spatial weighted regression. By identifying those regions or sectors of Ethiopia most at risk of losing agricultural value from land degradation, this paper provides important information for targeting conservation measures. My second paper examines the effect of government grain procurement and distribution in the Philippines. I use a structural Vector Autoregression model to estimate impacts of policy shocks on market prices and then use the estimates simulate ‘no policy’ prices. I compare the simulated ‘no policy’ prices with actual historical prices. I find that government activities have a very small impact on rice price levels and variability. Specifically, I find that the government’s activities only impacted food prices during the small number of years when the country was self-sufficient in production. Finally, in my third paper, I examine how trade policies, specifically export bans, affected domestic rice and wheat market integration in India. I verify that Indian markets maintain segmented equilibria by testing for and finding thresholds in a Threshold Vector Error Correction Model. More specifically I find that export bans may have had have had unintended consequences of increasing domestic price differences thereby resulting in the lack of domestic market integration. Since the decisions to use these blunt instruments are taken by domestic governments worldwide, studying the domestic effect of these policies has the potential to affect the use of these policies by other countries in the future. ▼ From December 2014 to June 2015, the U.S. poultry industry experienced an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), resulting in massive bird depopulations. Both turkey and egg producers were impacted and farms affected faced losses from costs of bird disposal and farm repopulation. This study isolates the table egg subsector of the poultry industry and looks at the revenue impact of the AI outbreak at the wholesale level. To determine this revenue impact, a vector error correction model (VECM) was defined and used to generate the counterfactual revenue during the time period the outbreak occurred. This counterfactual revenue was compared to the actual revenue observed during that time period and the difference is the revenue impact due to the outbreak, ceteris paribus. Additionally, machine learning algorithms, using residuals from the VECM, allowed us to determine causal relationships in contemporaneous time among the variables considered within the industry. The results from this study provide us with a better understanding of the table egg industry based on sound econometric modeling and provide a basis for conducting future revenue impact studies for similar events. Our model was developed using eight variables defined by previous studies including the number of hens and eggs, egg price, feed input prices, retail pork and beef prices, and real disposable personal income. After rigorous testing using RATS software, the vector error correction model for forecasting was identified with one lag and two cointegrating vectors. When the counterfactual revenue was compared to the actual revenue from December 2014 to June 2015, a gain of about $676 million to wholesalers was determined to be attributed to the outbreak. Additionally, residual analysis of contemporaneous relationships, as shown by directed acyclic graphs, indicated that egg price is independent of direct production quantities, hens and eggs, but is impacted by production costs such as feed input costs. These results can be accounted for by various factors including the inelasticity of egg price and the imperfectly competitive behavior of the wholesalers. Future studies can use price transmission principles to expand this study and identify AI outbreak impacts at the consumer and producer levels. ▼ The study investigated the causal relationship between economic growth and foreign direct investment in Namibia. It used annual secondary time series data covering the period between 1980 and 2016 for the following variables: economic growth, foreign direct investment and manufacturing. The study employed Vector Error Correction (VECM) Model to analyse the data. The time series properties of the data were analysed using Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) and Phillips-Perron (PP) unit root tests. The existence of the long-run relationship between the variables was assessed through Johansen cointegration test whereas, the nature of the causal relationship between the variables was tested by employing Granger causality test. Firstly, the results of ADF and PP unit root tests showed that all the variables considered for the study are integrated of order zero i.e. I(0). This confirms that, the three variables have zero means, constant variance and uncorrelated residual over time. Secondly, the Johansen cointegration based on Maximum Eigen and Trace statistic results revealed the presence of cointegration among the variables at 5% level of significance, implying a long-run relationship between the variables. Finally, the Granger causality test results prove a bidirectional causality between economic growth and foreign direct investment, whereas, manufacturing was found to Granger causes economic growth, a case of unidirectional causality since the results indicated that economic growth does not Granger causes manufacturing in Namibia. The study concluded that, foreign direct investment and manufacturing are the engine of growth in Namibia and economic growth is an important factor that determines the level of foreign direct investment in the country. It is therefore recommended that the Namibian government should work toward the development of new national policies and economic strategies to stimulate economic growth and foreign direct investment. The government should also implement the policies and initiatives that are currently in place so that foreign investors are attracted to the country. This in the end promotes economic growth. In addition, the government should strengthen its measures to increase the share of manufacturing sector in the economy.

▼ The Support Vector Machine (SVM) is a binary classification paradigm based on statistical learning. It is an important tool in object detection and pattern recognition, as well as signal processing, and the SVM algorithm has been shown to outperform existing classification algorithms. There are two main drawbacks with the original SVM formulation: the classification performance of the tuning regularisation parameter, and the computational and time cost of training phase. This Thesis focuses on the development of a new formulation of 2v-SVM, with two cost parameters v₊ and v₋, to mitigate these drawbacks. In addition, the computation implementation of training process is designed and explained, and the relationship between the new and the original formulations is developed mathematically and discussed. As with many statistical learning problems, the formulation of the original SVM (C-SVM) uses a regularisation parameter (C) to balance the generalisation performance of the classifier. The regularisation parameter places equal weightings on the number of training errors of both class labels. The equal weightings can be undesirable, and can be detrimental to the overall performance of the resulting classifier. In this Thesis, SVMs are extended to dual-error parameters (2C-SVMs and 2v-SVMs) that improve the classification performance, in particularly where the training class sizes are greatly different, and allow classification biasing based on a priori information. We discuss the creation of the new formulation and show results that provide indications of the improvements, and illustrate the use of 2v-SVMs for multi-category classification. In addition, we describe a metric that measures the reliability of a multi-category classification for the one-against-rest strategy. We introduce a novel implementation for training 2v-SVMs. The weakness of SVMs is the computation cost of training multiple SVMs to produce an optimised classifier. Each training involves the optimisation of a quadratic programming problem that is non-trivial. Optimisation algorithms for C-SVMs have proved to reduce the computational cost involved, but these algorithms cannot be directly applied to 2v-SVMs. The novel implementation improves on the existing methods while reducing the computational requirements. The relationship between the new 2v-SVM formulation and the original describes the link between the objective functions of the two formulations. The mathematical link shows that the new formulation provides the same functionality of the original formulation, while improving on the classification and computation performances. The resulting extension and implementation of 2v-SVMs provides a strong and robust method for producing binary classifiers as well as multi-category classifiers. ▼ La nouvelle stratégie d'intégration adoptée en 2000 par les pays Sud-Américains, après trois décennies d'instabilité économique et de crises récurrentes, est un jalon de l'histoire économique de la région. En effet, la volatilité du cycle économique de ces pays s'est réduite significativement à partir de cette date, atteignant son niveau le plus bas depuis 1950. L'analyse d'un tel phénomène est particulièrement intéressante en particulier lorsque l'on se place dans le contexte de turbulences et de crises des années 2000, à savoir, la crise financière mondiale (2008-2009) et, dans son sillage, la crise des dettes souveraines en zone euro. Dans cette thèse, l'objectif est d'étudier le projet d'intégration régionale d'Amérique du Sud, institutionnalisé en 2008 avec la création de l'Union des Nations Sud-Américaines Unasur, en tant que vecteur de stabilisation de ces économies. De ce fait, il s'agit de concentrer l'analyse sur les interactions entre les douze pays du continent Sud-Américain – Argentine, Bolivie, Brésil, Chili, Colombie, Équateur, Guyana, Paraguay, Pérou, Uruguay, Suriname et Venezuela – qui forment un groupe hétérogène autour d'un objectif commun l' "… intégration culturelle, sociale, économique et politique …" et la "… réduction des asymétries de la qualité de vie de ses citoyens … ". La thèse s'intéresse exclusivement aux aspects économiques d'un tel projet d'intégration régionale. À partir d'outils empiriques et théoriques, nous cherchons à évaluer le niveau de convergence et de vulnérabilité des économies concernées. Plus particulièrement une analyse des impacts des politiques d'intégration dans court terme et une étude de leurs performances macroéconomiques de long terme. La thèse se divise en quatre chapitres et s'appuie sur des modèles qui intègrent diverses sources de diffusion des chocs asymétriques. Le premier chapitre présente l'état de l'art de la théorie d'intégration économique régionale en soulignant le cas Sud-Américain. Le deuxième chapitre analyse, à l'aide de modèles vectoriels autorégressifs structurels et de mesures de corrélation, l'impact de chocs externes sur les secteurs réel, monétaire et budgétaire des pays membres de l'Unasur. L'analyse montre que : (i) même les pays les plus fermés (Argentine et Venezuela) et les plus industrialisées (Brésil) présentent une forte vulnérabilité aux perturbations internationales, (ii) cette vulnérabilité individuelle se traduit en une convergence de court terme des trajectoires des principales variables macroéconomiques des pays concernés. Dans le troisième chapitre, on cherche à mesurer le degré de convergence de long terme des niveaux de vie des citoyens Sud-Américains à l’aide de modèles empiriques vectoriels à correction d'erreur et de techniques de cointégration. Les résultats montrent l'existence de tendances stochastiques communes à long terme. ▼ As comunicações ópticas e as comunicações sem fios têm sofrido uma grande evolução ao longo das últimas décadas. Com o objectivo de juntar as vantagens de cada um dos sistemas surgiu o que se designa por rádio sobre fibra. Este sistema permite centralizar todo o processamento necessário num só local, na estação central, simplificando assim a estação base. Esta simplificação permite reduzir os custos de implementação e torna o sistema menos complexo. Esta dissertação de mestrado tem como objectivo principal estudar e simular um sistema que permite o envio de sinais vídeo e rádio pela fibra óptica para posterior difusão, utilizando o conceito de rádio sobre fibra. Os sinais enviados foram o LTE (Long Term Evolution), o UWB (Ultra WideBand) e o WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). O primeiro disponibiliza o serviço de voz, o segundo disponibiliza o serviço de televisão e o último dá suporte à internet. Estes sinais foram modulados em OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex), porque, posteriormente, estes sinais vão ser difundidos num ambiente sem fios e este tipo de modulação minimiza o efeito de multipercurso e da interferência intersimbólica. Com este estudo pretende-se verificar qual a viabilidade de um sistema que permite o envio de três sinais distintos simultaneamente (serviço Triple Play). Ao analisar os resultados deste sistema concluiu-se que a sua aplicabilidade pode apresentar algumas limitações, dependendo do tipo de modulação e do tipo de modulador que se utilize. Os moduladores ópticos utilizados foram o MZ (Mach-Zehnder) e o EA (Electro-Absorption). A qualidade do sinal recebido foi analisada com base no valor de EVM (Error Vector Magnitude). O primeiro modulador foi aquele que apresentou mais limitações, pois o desempenho do sistema é comprometido para distâncias superiores a 40 km e para potências de entrada inferiores a 0 dBm. Este tipo de sistema apresenta um EVM mais baixo quando a potência de entrada utilizada está entre 0 e 6 dBm. Se o modulador utilizado for o EA, o sistema apresenta um EVM mais baixo quando se utiliza um índice de modulação entre 20% e 30%, para uma potência de entrada entre 0 e 2 dBm. ▼ This study investigates the long-term and short-term dynamic relationships among the variables of stock returns and institutional investors' buy-sell difference in Taiwan's stock market for the sample periods from Jan., 2000 through May, 2009. Some econometrical methodologies are used in this study, such as unit test, vector autoregressive model, cointegration test, vector error correction model, impulse response function. The major empirical results are shown as follows: 1. Cointegration test For the sample periods, one long-term equilibrium relationship is found from the Johansen's cointegration test, significantly with 5% confidence level between stock year returns and the buy-sell difference for the foreign investment institutions, the domestic investment institutions, and the dealers. The long-term equilibrium relationship is Ry=1.65*QFII+4.28*FUND+35.22*DLR-1142.6. 2. VECM estimation (1)With the vector error correction model (VECM) being applied to the sample periods, the findings indicate that the changes of stock returns are not influenced among the short-term dynamic relationships by the changes of institutional investors' buy-sell difference, but only affected by one-period-lag of itself. (2) Among the short-term dynamic relationships, the changes of foreign investment institutions' buy-sell difference are affected by one-period-lag of institutional investors that positively affected by one-period-lag of the dealers, and inversely affected by one-period-lag of itself and one-period-lag of the domestic investment institutions. However, it is positively affected by one-period-lag of long-term equilibrium, which indicates foreign investment institutions follow positive feedback trading strategies. (3)The changes of the domestic investment institutions' buy-sell difference are only affected by one-period-lag of itself among the short-term dynamic relationships. (4)The changes of the dealers' buy-sell difference are positively affected among the short-term dynamic relationships by one-period-lag of the foreign investment institutions. As for the long-term relationships, it is affected by one-period-lag of long-term equilibrium, which also indicates the dealers follow positive feedback trading strategies. (5)The foreign investment institutions and the dealers have the mutual feedback relationship.
