[pt] Nos últimos anos, as bandas de frequências nas comunicações sem fio estão começando a saturar devido ao incremento do tráfego e o aumento dos usuários, é devido a isso que, é necessário estudar as bandas de frequências que não estão sendo utilizadas nas áreas das comunicações como a banda milimétrica e sub-milimétrica. A transmissão de dados na banda EHF o banda milimétrica constitui uma possível solução para conseguir transmitir maiores quantidades de informação a altas velocidades de transmissão aliviando as bandas de frequências atuais. Neste trabalho se estuda a transmissão de dados em frequências de 100, 200, 300 e 400 GHz, empregando a modulação Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying (QPSK) mediante uma arquitetura baseada no batimento de dois lasers, cujas frequências são combinadas em um Beam Splitter, para que a corrente resultante da soma dos campos elétricos dos dois lasers seja convertida em um sinal de alta frequência por meio de uma antena fotocondutora. O batimento dos dois lasers, com diferentes comprimentos de onda e com a mesma potência, ao interagir com uma antena fotocondutora dá como resultado uma frequência na ordem de Gigahertz. No experimento utilizaram-se dois tipos de diodos receptores, um de banda larga (menor que 4 GHz) e outro de banda estreita (menor que 1 MHz). As duas antenas foram testadas em diferentes distâncias e com diferentes frequências de portadora para verificar qual delas tinha o melhor desempenho na banda EHF para poder realizar a transmissão de dados.

[en] In recent years, the frequency bands in wireless communications are beginning to saturate due to the increase of traffic and the increase of users, and it for that reason that is necessary to study the frequency bands that are not begin used in the communication areas like millimeter and sub-millimeters bands. Data transmission in the EHF band is a possible solution to be able to transmit large amounts of information at high transmission speeds, alleviating current frequency bands. In this work, the transmission of data in frequencies of 100, 200, 300 and 400 Gigahertz is studied, using Quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) modulation with an architecture based on the beat of two lasers, whos frequencies are combined by means of Beam Splitter, so that result of the electric fields of two lasers is converted into a high frequency signal with the aid of a photoconductor antenna. The.beating of the two lasers, with different wavelengths and with the same power, when interacting with a photoconductor antenna results in a frequency in the order of Gigahertz. In the experiment, two types of receiver diodes were used, one Broadband (less than 4 GHz) and the other of narrowband (less than 1 MHz). The two antennas were tested at different distances and with different carrier frequencies to verify which one had the best performance in the EHF band in order to perform the data transmission.

A extrêmement hautes fréquences, les applications électroniques vont être confrontées à des challenges liés à la réduction des dimensions et la compacité des systèmes. Les limites physiques des matériaux conventionnels étant atteintes, de nouvelles alternatives sont nécessaires dans le domaine du nano-packaging. De nouveaux matériaux ont été étudiés pour remplacer les matériaux conventionnels. Parmi eux, le nanotube de carbone démontre une excellente conductivité électrique et thermique ainsi qu’une résistance physique extraordinaire. Il est donc un candidat de choix pour des applications comme les interconnexions, l’évacuation de chaleur, le blindage électromagnétique ou encore le renforcement structurel. Autant de points capitaux pour le nano-packaging moderne. Dans ce manuscrit, les nanotubes de carbone vont être étudiés en profondeur pour réaffirmer leurs propriétés électroniques et thermiques hors du commun. Nous nous concentrerons ensuite sur l’étude de deux types d’interconnexions à base de nanotubes de carbone : des interconnexions à base de plot en nanotubes de carbone utilisant la technologie Flip-Chip et des interconnexions sans-fil à base de monopole composé de nanotubes de carbone. Enfin, nous étudierons la possibilité de créer des composants passifs Radio-Fréquence à l’aide de structures en nanotubes de carbone. De nouvelles méthodes de fabrication des structures en CNT ont été utilisées au cours de ces travaux de thèse afin d’obtenir une compatibilité avec les technologies CMOS.

At extremely high frequency, electronic applications will have to challenge problems born from the size reduction and compactification of the systems. Physical limits of conventional materials will be reached and so new alternatives are necessary in the nano-packaging field. New materials have been studied to replace conventional materials. Among them, carbon nanotubes have shown extremely high electrical and thermal conductivity as well as extraordinary physical resistance. And so carbon nanotubes are a good candidate for applications such as interconnects, thermal management, electromagnetic shielding or structural reinforcement. All of those applications are capital for modern nano-packaging. In this manuscript, carbon nanotubes will be studied in depths to demonstrate again their incredible electronic and thermal properties. We will then focus on the study of two types of carbon nanotubes based interconnects: carbon nanotubes bumps based interconnects for Flip-Chip applications and wireless interconnects based on carbon nanotubes monopole antenna. Finally, we will study the possibility of creating passive RF components using carbon nanotubes structures. New ways of fabricating the carbon nanotubes structure were used in order to get a fabrication process of the prototype completely compatible with CMOS technologies.

Exponering av det lågfrekventa ELF (Extremely low frequency) magnetfältet som genereras vid dagens elnät är något som är relativt nytt för människokroppen och den ökar ständigt i och med den tekniska utvecklingen. Eftersom det inte finns ett klart svar på hur fältet påverkar kroppen så tillämpas försiktighet för att hålla exponeringsnivåerna nere och försäkra sig om att ingen skada sker. Med hjälp av tidigare forskning inom området och uppmätta värden från olika anläggningar samt överslagsberäkningar har ett verktyg i Excel tagits fram för att kunna uppskatta magnituden av magnetfältet. Verktyget innehåller information om styrkan på magnetfältet från transformatorer, ställverk, elcentraler, kraftledningar och kanalskenor. Användaren skriver in ett antal parametrar för att få utdata om hur starkt magnetfältet är på olika avstånd ifrån källan. Detta presenteras i form av en tabell och en graf för respektive utrustning. Eftersom magnetfält alstras beroende på strömmens riktning, påverkar själva geometrin i olika elanläggningar magnetfältets styrka. För att beräkna exakta värden krävs då avancerade simuleringsprogram. Med detta verktyg kan projektörer redan vid ett tidigt skede uppskatta magnetfältet.

The exposure of ELF (Extremely low frequency) magnetic field generated by today’s electrical power system, is something that is relatively new to the human body and it is constantly increasing as more technology is developed. As there is no clear answer on how the field actually affects the body, a measure of caution is applied to ensure that the exposure levels are kept down to make sure no harm is done. With the help of previous research in the field, measured values from different locations and approximate calculations, a tool was developed in Excel to estimate the magnitude of the magnetic fields. The tool provides information about the magnitude of magnetic fields from transformers, switchgears, switchboards, powerlines and busbars. The user enters a number of parameters and the tool provides output data with the magnitude of the magnetic field at different distances from the source. This is presented in the form of a table and a graph for each equipment. Since the magnetic field is generated depending on the currents direction, the actual geometry of the electrical system needs to be taken in consideration when calculating the exact magnetic field. This requires an advanced simulation software to be accurate. With this tool, designers have the opportunity to estimate the magnetic fields at an early stage of development.

Od svog nastanka život na Zemlji se odvijao u prisustvu prirodnih elektromagnetnih polja (EMP) koja su relativno jednostavna i potiču od malobrojnih emitera elektromagnetne energije. Živa bića su se tokom svoje evolucije prilagodila ovom konstantnom sredinskom faktoru, ali su danas pored prirodnih, u sve većoj meri izložena EMP poreklom od izvora koje je stvorio čovek. Intenzitet i frekvencija ovih polja su daleko veći u odnosu na polja prirodnog porekla, a tu spadaju najvećim delom EMP mrežne frekvencije (u okviru dela spektra ekstremno niske frekvencije (ENF) od 50 ili 60 Hz), polja koji potiču od uređaja masovnih (RTV predajnici, 100-500 MHz) i mobilnih komunikacija (800-900 MHz i 1800-2200 MHz). EMP ENF imaju veliki biofizički značaj jer su sveprisutna u životnoj sredini usled prenosa i upotrebe električne energije. Elektromagnetna polja antropogenog porekla predmet su izučavanja različitih bioloških disciplina, ali pre svega sa aspekta zdravlja ljudi. Izlaganje organizama ELM ENF, čak i tokom kraćeg vremenskog perioda, ima za posledicu narušavanje ravnoteže bioloških sistema, kao i poremećaje na različitim nivoima organizacije, ali još uvek ne postoji opšte prihvaćena teorija o mehanizmima dejstva EMP ENF u biološkim sistemima. Pored toga, sredinske promene, usled prisustva EMP ENF, mogu imati uticaj na ekološke i evolucione procese koji utiču na stepen i obim promena u genetičkoj strukturi i evoluciji populacije. Stoga je od suštinskog značaja dublje razumevanje mehanizama koji omogućavaju organizmima da se manje ili više uspešno prilagođavaju sredinskim izazovima, kao i mogućnost da se predvide i prate odgovori populacija na promene u životnoj sredini koja ih okružuje. Tokom poslednje tri decenije izvedene su brojne studije na Drosophila sa ciljem ispitivanja bioloških efekata EMP ENF. Eksperimentalno izlaganje individualnih genotipova Drosophila EMP ENF tokom različitih faza životnog ciklusa, rezultuje različitim odgovorima koji su često oprečni, jer efekat delovanja EMP ENF na rast i metabolizam organizama, bilo inhibitorni, bilo stimulativni, zavisi od kompleksnih veza između frekvencije, jačine polja, dužine izlaganja, i stanja i tipa ćelija ili organizama...

▼ Computer models for underwater sound propagation often rely on ray tracing to obtain solutions to the high frequency wave equation. While adequate for large scale results in deep water environments, ray tracing has drawbacks that limit its reliability for simulations involving multiple boundary interactions and in studies concerning the effects of unmodeled physical processes. This work presents the development and application of the level set method to the high frequency wave equation with the intent of providing a framework for wavefront propagation in underwater acoustics as a valuable alternative to ray tracing. Level set methods are generic, computational models for solving dynamic interface problems. The model regularizes problems which exhibit behavior that is difficult to capture numerically in physical space by posing the problem in the higher-dimensional phase space. A relevant example is the behavior of self-intersecting wavefronts; in physical space, such solutions are multiple-valued. The level set method represents the interface implicitly as the zero level set of some function in the phase space, then propagates the surface according to a problem-dependent velocity field. Although the problem is posed in a higher dimensional space, the quantities of interest are local to the interface. Thus the computational burden may be reduced by solving the level set equations only in a neighborhood of the zero level set. The behavior of solutions at a reflecting boundary motivates the application of WENO methods, which are known to perform well on problems involving shocks. Since WENO methods are complicated to implement on irregular grids, two methods for applying reflection boundary conditions at an interface embedded within a Cartesian grid are proposed. In addition, this work develops a method for computing spreading loss via a semi-Lagrangian approach using the wavefronts provided by the level set solutions. A final topic is the application of a stochastic collocation method to study the effect of random perturbations in the wave speed on the wavefront propagation algorithm. Verification against a full wave equation solver and ray tracing software shows that the resulting method provides accurate wavefront information in the presence of multi-path propagation. ▼ Colorectal cancer is characterized by aberrant cell proliferation, resistance to apoptosis and loss of differentiation. While the pathways which drive cell proliferation and resistance to apoptosis in this disease are relatively well characterized, the mechanisms which underpin the loss of differentiation are not well understood. The central aim for this thesis was to identify novel transcription factors which mediate differentiation loss in colorectal cancer. Analysis of gene expression differences between moderately and undifferentiated colorectal cancers identified coordinate downregulation of multiple transcription factors in undifferentiated cell lines. This included the EHF transcription factor (Ets homologous factor) which was highly expressed in well to moderately differentiated colorectal cancer cell lines and downregulated in undifferentiated lines. EHF was also found to be highly expressed in the normal colonic epithelium. Loss of EHF expression also correlated with reduced expression of colonic epithelial differentiation markers in primary colorectal tumours. To assess the direct role of EHF in colorectal cancer cell differentiation, EHF expression was downregulated in moderately differentiated cell lines and stably reexpressed in undifferentiated cell lines. These experiments demonstrated that knockdown or re-expression of EHF alone was not sufficient to alter the differentiation status of colorectal cancer cell lines. Alternatively, EHF was found to play a key role in the suppression of migration and invasion of colorectal cancer cells. As multiple transcription factors are downregulated in undifferentiated colorectal cancers, we next determined whether EHF may impact differentiation status by working in combination with other transcription factors. To address this, systematic knockdown of EHF with other downregulated transcription factors in undifferentiated colorectal cancer cell lines was performed in moderately differentiated colorectal cancer cell lines. This analysis revealed that knockdown of EHF in combination with CDX1 significantly downregulates the expression of differentiation markers and disrupts the glandular architecture of moderately differentiated colorectal cancer cell lines. Conversely, the re-expression of EHF and CDX1 in undifferentiated colorectal cancer cells significantly induced differentiation marker expression and induced some features of gland formation. Furthermore, the re-induction of EHF and CDX1 significantly reduced cell proliferation and migration of colorectal cancer cell lines. These findings demonstrate that EHF in combination with CDX1 regulates the differentiation of colorectal cancer cells, and that the coordinate loss of these transcription factors contributes to the loss of differentiation in colorectal cancer.

[pt] A previsão de curto prazo, que envolve dados de alta frequência, é essencial para a confiabilidade e eficiência da operação do setor elétrico, fazendo com que a alocação da carga seja feita de forma eficiente, além de indicar possíveis distorções nos próximos períodos (dias, horas, ou frações de hora). A fim de garantir a operação energética, diversas abordagens têm sido empregadas com vistas à previsão de carga de energia a curto prazo. Dentre elas, pode-se citar os modelos híbridos de Séries Temporais, Lógica Fuzzy e Redes Neurais e o Método Holt-Winters com múltiplos ciclos que é a principal ferramenta utilizada atualmente. O HPA (Hierarchical Profiling Approach) é um modelo que decompõe a variabilidade dos dados de séries temporais em três componentes: determinística, estocástica e ruído. A metodologia é capaz de tratar observações únicas, periódicas e aperiódicas, e ao mesmo tempo, serve como uma técnica de pré-branqueamento. Este trabalho tem por objetivo implementar o HPA e aplicá-lo a dados de carga de energia elétrica de 15 em 15 minutos pra um estado da região Sudeste do Brasil. Também serão analisadas as previsões de curto prazo geradas pelo modelo para a série considerada, visto que a habilidade preditiva do HPA ainda é desconhecida para séries brasileiras. As previsões forneceram Coeficiente U de Theil igual a 0,36 e um Erro Percentual Absoluto Médio (MAPE, Mean Absolute Percentage Error) de 5,46%, o qual é bem inferior ao valor fornecido pelo Modelo Ingênuo usado para comparação (15,08%).

[en] Short-term forecast, which involves high frequency data, is essential for a reliable and efficient electricity sector operation, enabling an efficient power load allocation and indicating possible distortions in the coming periods (days, hours, or hour fractions). To ensure the operation efficiency, several approaches have been employed in order to forecast the short-term load. Among them, one can mention the hybrid models of Time Series, Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks and Holt-Winters Method with multiple cycles, which is the main tool used today. The HPA (Hierarchical Profiling Approach) model decomposes the variability of time series data into three components: deterministic, stochastic and noise. The model is capable of modeling single, periodic and aperiodic observations, and at the same time function as a pre-whitening technique. This work aims to implement the HPA and to apply it in 15 in 15 minutes load data of a Brazil’s southeastern state, since the predictive ability of the HPA is still not known for the Brazilian series. The short-term forecasts estimated for the series considered are analyzed and provided a Theil-U Coefficient equal to 0.36 and a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 5.46%, which is smaller than the value given by the Naive Model (15.08%).

▼ High frequency ultrasound imaging, capable of achieving superior spatial resolution in real-time, has been shown to be useful for imaging and visualizing blood flow in ophthalmology, dermatology, and small animal research. The utilization of high frequency array-based imaging system can alleviate the limitations of the systems with single element transducers. This dissertation presents an investigation of high frequency array-based imaging system and its potential biomedical applications. The system is capable of B-mode imaging, PW-Doppler, color Doppler imaging, and RF data acquisition. Three different types of high frequency (30 MHz 256-element linear, 20 MHz 192-element convex, and 20 MHz 48-element phased) array transducers were implemented on the array-based imaging system. The system was also utilized for ophthalmic imaging: 30 MHz linear array for anterior segment and 20 MHz convex array for both anterior and posterior segments imaging of the eye. Anatomical structures, such as cornea, iris, ciliary body, lens, and retina, choroid, and sclera layers were identified. The high frequency PW Doppler and micro-ECG were integrated to assess the ventricular diastolic function during heart regeneration of the adult zebrafish. Synchronized PW Doppler with ECG signals confirmed the A-wave in response to atrial contraction (P wave in ECG), E-wave in response to ventricular relaxation (T wave in ECG), and ventricular outflow in response to ventricular contraction (QRS complex in ECG). The E/A ratio is less than 1 in zebrafish at baseline, reflecting a higher active filling (A-wave) than passive filling (E-wave) velocities in the two-chamber heart system. High frequency dual mode pulsed-wave Doppler imaging, which provides both tissue Doppler and Doppler flow in a same cardiac cycle, was implemented on the array-based imaging system for monitoring the functional regeneration of adult zebrafish hearts. In the in vivo study of zebrafish, both tissue Doppler and flow Doppler signals were simultaneously obtained and the synchronized valve motions with the blood flow were identified. In the longitudinal study on the zebrafish heart regeneration, the parameters for diagnosing the diastolic dysfunction were measured, and the type of diastolic dysfunction caused by the amputation was found to be similar to the restrictive filling. The diastolic function was fully recovered within four weeks post-amputation. High frequency color Doppler imaging was implemented on the array-based imaging system and evaluated by the flow phantom and adult zebrafish in vivo studies. In the flow phantom study, constant velocity with opposite flow directions was detected utilizing color Doppler imaging. Also, color Doppler imaging could be used to monitor blood flows inside adult zebrafish heart and flow directions were clearly identified by the color-coded images. ▼ The demand for high density power supplies has been increasing through the years. The most common trend in achieving high power density is to use high frequency switching which results in smaller component size. However, for the magnetic components, operation at high frequencies leads to increased conductor losses due to skin and proximity effects. The use of planar transformers on printed circuit boards (PCB) can mitigate this problem. The thinner and wider conductors of PCBs assist in reducing high-frequency losses. With larger surface areas, planar transformers also offer better thermal performance than conventional wire-wound magnetics. In this thesis, research activities to further the technology of planar PCB transformer are presented. These research activities are aimed at improving the modelling, design and utilization of planar PCB transformers for high-frequency power converters. A new non-linear model of planar PCB magnetics was developed to model the winding loss, core loss, and saturation characteristics. The developed model can be implemented in a circuit simulation package which can be used to predict the performance of the PCB transformer in a power converter system. The model was also used to derive the high-frequency electrical parameters of a PCB transformer. The model-derived parameters were proven to be comparable to LCR measurement and results obtained using finite element analysis. A stochastic method of estimating the electric parameters of a PCB transformer, based on differential evolution, was also developed. The developed method was shown to be a potential alternative to resource-intensive numerical methods. Existing guidelines for the design of PCB transformers are evaluated using finite element analysis and validated in a prototype transformer. Results of the evaluation show that the existing guidelines result in over-design of PCB transformers. For higher power applications, using the high-frequency advantage of PCB transformers, methods to implement multiple planar PCB transformers, including the concept of matrix transformer, are presented and compared. Through the evaluated design guidelines, prototypes of multiple core transformers were fabricated and characterised in a power converter system. Result of the comparison of the different implementations showed that the trade-off is between high-frequency losses and thermal dissipation. ▼ The significant global growth in renewable energy production has led to increasing concerns about the problems associated with electrical equipment in power plants connected with this type of energy. The crucial electrical components of renewable energy generation are step-up transformers, with respect to which, gassing problems and premature insulation failures have been extensively reported in recent years. One of the factors related to the reported problems is the presence of high-frequency high-dV/dt voltages that are created by switching operations in wind energy plants. Addressing this challenge necessitates the investigation of transformer insulation systems under high-dV/dt pulse voltages. This thesis presents research undertaken in order to examine the performance of wind turbine step-up transformers under distorted voltages, with consideration of internal resonance phenomena and high-frequency dielectric effects. To evaluate the effect of distorted voltage on the acceleration of the ageing process in transformers, model transformers have been aged under distorted power converter voltage as well as under pure sinusoidal power grid voltage. Relevant parameters are monitored as indicators of the condition of the transformer insulation, and the results are compared throughout the ageing period. In addition, to study the transformer behavior under high-frequency high-dV/dt voltages, a detailed high-frequency model is necessary. High frequency modeling of large power transformers is complex and time-consuming due to their sizes. Therefore, as an alternative approach, this work proposes a modeling method that considers the high-frequency behavior of a scale down model transformer, and then relates it to the behavior of the actual size transformer. To verify the proposed modelling method, an experimental study investigates the correlations between the frequency responses of the two model transformers of different power ratings and sizes. Comparison of the frequency responses of the scaled and original transformers validates the proposed approach of scaling transformers for high-frequency study. High-frequency measurements are performed on an actual wind turbine transformer to represent a linear wideband black-box model of wind turbine step-up transformer in an electromagnetic transient study. Using the simulation results for switching impulsive waveforms imposed on wind turbine transformers due to the adjacent breakers operations, this work evaluates the effects of impulsive voltage parameters such as rate of rise and repetition frequency on inception voltage and intensity of partial discharge, generally assumed to be the main long-term cause of insulation deterioration. Partial discharge parameter measurement under high-dV/dt voltages is challenging due to interferences from fast oscillations, and difficulties of PD energy measurements. [pt] Nesta dissertação foram desenvolvidas técnicas de controle por aprendizado acelerado e Neuro-Fuzzy, aplicadas em um sistema servo-hidráulico para ensaio de fadiga. Este sistema tem o propósito de fazer ensaios em materiais para prever a resistência à fadiga dos materiais. O trabalho envolveu quatro etapas principais: levantamento bibliográfico, desenvolvimento de um controle por aprendizado acelerado, desenvolvimento de um controle por aprendizado Neuro-Fuzzy, e implementação experimental dos modelos de controle por aprendizado proposto em uma máquina de ensaios de materiais. A implementação do controle por aprendizado acelerado foi feita a partir do modelo de controle desenvolvido por Alva, com o objetivo de acelerar o processo de aprendizagem. Esta metodologia consiste em fazer um controle do tipo bang-bang, restringindo a servo-válvula a trabalhar sempre em seus limites extremos de operação, i.e., procurando mantê-la sempre completamente aberta em uma ou outra direção. Para manter a servo-válvula trabalhando em seus limites de seu funcionamento, os instantes ótimos para as reversões são obtidos pelo algoritmo de aprendizado, e armazenados em tabelas específicas para cada tipo de carregamento. Estes pontos de reversão dependem de diversos fatores, como a amplitude e carga média da solicitação, e são influenciados pela dinâmica do sistema. Na metodologia proposta, a lei de aprendizado inclui um termo de momentum que permite acelerar a aprendizagem dos valores das tabelas constantemente durante a execução dos testes, melhorando a resposta a cada evento. O desenvolvimento de um controle por aprendizado Neuro-Fuzzy foi motivado pela necessidade de ter um agente com a capacidade de aprendizado e armazenamento dos pontos ótimos de reversão. Este modelo de controle também consiste na implementação de um controle do tipo bang-bang, trabalhando com a servo-válvula sempre nos seus limites extremos de operação. O instante de reversão é determinado pelo sistema Neuro-Fuzzy, o qual tem como entradas a gama (dobro da amplitude) e o valor mínimo do carregamento solicitado. O processo de aprendizado é feito pelas atualizações dos pesos do sistema Neuro-Fuzzy, baseado nos erros obtidos durante a execução dos testes, melhorando a resposta do sistema a cada evento. A validação experimental dos modelos propostos é feita em uma máquina servohidráulica de ensaios de fadiga. Para este fim, o algoritmo de controle proposto foi implementado em tempo real em um módulo de controle CompactRIO da National Instruments. ▼ The cellular networks are evolving to meet the future requirements of data rate,coverage and capacity. The fourth generation mobile communication system, LTEhas been developed to meet these goals. LTE uses multiple antenna features andlarger bandwidths in order to accomplish this task. These features will furtherextend the requirements of data rate, coverage, latency and flexibility. LTE also utilizes the varying quality of the radio channel and the interferencefrom other transmitters by adapting the data rate to the instantaneous channelquality at all the time. This is typically referred to as Link Adaptation. Thelink adaptation fails from time to time due to the varying channel quality as wellas the interference from other transmitters. In order to counteract these failures,retransmission methods are employed. These methods detect the errors on thereceiver side and signals the transmitter for the retransmission of the erroneousdata. The efficiency of link adaptation increases if combined with a properly designedretransmission scheme at the expense of delays due to retransmissions. This master thesis focuses on the study of the retransmission schemes with fasterfeedback, resulting in a reduction in delay. The feedback is generated by makingan early estimate of the decoding outcome and sending it early to the transmitterresulting in faster retransmission. This is important in certain applications wherethe data transmission is intolerant to delays.The thesis work shows by system performance simulations that fast packet retransmission,precisely called Early HARQ Feedback, significantly affects the systemperformance together with the utilization of the link adaptation. The study alsoshows that the link adaptation, in certain scenarios, can be optimized to improvethe system performance. In that respect, it is also possible to increase the numberof retransmissions within the same resource utilization. That optimization is basicallycalled aggressive link adaptation. Consequently, Early HARQ Feedback incombination with aggressive link adaptation provides a large improvement in thedownlink performance of the studied cases.

▼ Í þessari ritgerð eru mótuð drög að stefnu fyrir fyrirtækið Fótbolta ehf en meginstarfsemi þess er rekstur vefsíðunar Fótbolti.net. Fyrst er fræðileg umfjöllun. Þar eru viðurkenndar aðferðir viðskiptafræðinnar sem varða viðfangsefnið kynntar. Að því búnu verður stiklað á stóru yfir þau 10 ár sem fyrirtækið hefur starfað. Samkvæmt ársreikningum þess frá frá stofnun árið 2007, og fram til ársins 2011, má lesa að um er að ræða rekstur sem er smár í sniðum og með hægt vaxandi umsvif. Í ritgerðinni er ljósi varpað á stöðu og rekstur fyrirtækisins. Einnig er rætt við eigendur þess en þeir sjá jafnframt um daglegan rekstur. Skoðað er hvernig stjórnendur sjá stöðu Fótbolta ehf og farið yfir hlutverk, framtíðarsýn og markmið. Með upplýsingar varðandi ofangreinda þætti ásamt fræðilegri nálgun á viðfangsefninu, eru lögð drög að stefnu sem stjórnendur geta beint fyrirtækinu inn á meti þeir það svo. Í tengslum við þá stefnu og með leiðsögn framkvæmdastjóra fyrirtækisins, er skipurit þess mótað. Litið er á nokkur fræðileg líkön með hliðsjón af rekstri Fótbolta ehf. Þar má nefna SWOT, PEST, PORTERS og ANSOFF en þau nýtast öll í þeirri stefnumótunarvinnu sem fyrirtækið leggur í. Styrkleikar og veikleikar í SWOT greiningu marka innri gildi fyrirtækisins, það er hvernig stjórnendur þess meta stöðuna. Ógnanir og tækifæri í því líkani, ásamt PESTEL og PORTERS líkönunum snúa að ytra umhverfi og áhrifavöldum þaðan. Allnokkrir þættir í ytra umhverfi geta haft áhrif á fyrirtæki. Dæmi um slíka þætti eru birgjar, viðskiptavinir og samkeppnisaðilar en fleira kemur þar einnig til. Staða fyrirtækisins er kortlögð með aðstoð þeirra líkana sem hér hafa verið nefnd. Út frá þeirri mynd er skoðað hvernig málum er hagað frá sjónarhóli stefnumótunar, það er þeim hugmyndum sem stjórnendur fyrirtækisins hafa í því efni. Í niðurstöðukafla ritgerðarinnar er farið yfir þá þætti og lagðar fram tillögur sem nýta má til frekari skerpingar á stefnunni og stuðla með því að sett markmið náist. Í þeim kafla kemur fram að þrátt fyrir að Fótbolti ehf sé ágætlega rekið fyrirtæki ber það merki þess að hafa ekki notið fræðilegrar stefnumótunar. Sem dæmi má þar nefna fjarlægð sumra starfsmanna og skort á frammistöðumati. Með skýrri stefnu leggur Fótbolti ehf grunninn að skilvirkari rekstri sem á að birtast með fjölgun viðskiptavina, aukningu auglýsingatekna og betri afkomu.
