Theresearchareaisrathercomplex,andtheresearchquestionsstrivetocoverthefundamentals ofthesubject,constitutingthebasisforfurtherinvestigation.Thepurposeofthisstudyistomap theSwedishinfrastructuresectorbasedonthecurrentviewsofsixintervieweesfromthelargest actorsinSwedishinfrastructure. Theintervieweesaremembersofthetopprojectmanagement andrepresenttwoofthelargestcontractingcompanies,themostextensivepublicclientofcivil engineeringworks,oneofthelargestconsultancyfirms,andamaterialsuppliercompany.Thefocus hasbeenongettingthetopprojectmanagement’scurrentviewoftheinfrastructuresectorconcerning rolesandresponsibilitiesregardingbuildabilityandsustainability. Thestudyhasshownthatcollaborationconstitutesabaseforchange,wheretheinfrastructure sectorrequiresabettertrans-boundaryunderstandingoftheactor’sresponsibilities.Thetopproject managementemphasizestheweightofcooperationforimprovingtheworkwithsustainabilityand buildabilityininfrastructureprojects.Concerningthis,aworkplanthatprovidesaconceptforthe executionofdifferentprojectdeliverymethodscouldhelpharmonisetheindustryandpotentially facilitatesustainabilityandbuildability.Further,itcouldalsoenhancecollaborativeworkingmethods, whichthetopprojectmanagementencourages.Sustainabilityperformanceassessmentisofgreat valueforimprovingthesustainabilityworkintheinfrastructuresector.Animprovement,desiredby theinterviewees,isatoolthatincludesseveralaspectsofsustainabilitytomakeprofoundsustainability assessmentsintheprojects.Theeconomicaspectofsustainabilityis,inouropinion,foundasthe mostprominentdrivingforceforchange,andconstitutesthebaseforcreatingfinancialincentives, whichthetopprojectmanagementseemstoencourage.
