Judge A Nonprofit By The Partners It Keeps: How Does Cross-Sector Partnership Disclosure Influence Public Evaluations Of The Nonprofit?.

▼ Cross-sector partnerships between nonprofit organizations, businesses, and the government have become a popular strategy for nonprofits to secure economic support, acquire scarce resources, advance their missions, and address larger and more complex problems in society. Despite these merits, these collaborative efforts are also controversial given the inherent distinctiveness and incompatibility between cross-sector partners. Under careful public scrutiny and confronted with consistently declining public trust, it is critical for nonprofits to strategically communicate about their cross-sector partnerships. However, current research on cross-sector partnership communication has not paid adequate attention to the nonprofit’s perspective, and rarely has it focused on publics’ reactions to nonprofits’ partnership disclosures. Taking a network approach, this study considers a nonprofit’s partnership portfolio as its egocentric network, which includes multiple partners that are simultaneously supporting the nonprofit. How a portfolio is configured, such as how many and with whom the nonprofit works, reflects the nonprofit’s discretion in partner selection and its embeddedness in alliance networks. When the nonprofit publicly communicates about the partnership portfolio, it becomes visible and can function as informational cues that influence publics’ perceptions of the nonprofit. To understand the effect and effectiveness of the partnership communication, this dissertation project is centered on two overarching questions: How does a nonprofit’s disclosure of different portfolio configurations (size, industry diversification, and organization type diversification) influence individual publics’ evaluations of the nonprofit? How do such portfolio communication strategies interact with nonprofit cynicism to affect publics’ evaluations of the nonprofit? To address these research questions, this dissertation conducted two experiments. Study 1 adopted a between-subject design to examine the main and interaction effects of portfolio size and industry diversification on individual publics’ trust, attitude, and intention to support the focal nonprofit. In addition, it tested the interaction effects between nonprofit cynicism and these two portfolio configurations on the communication outcomes. Study 2 adopted a between-subject experimental design to examine the main and interaction effects of portfolio size and organization type diversification, as well as how nonprofit cynicism influences the effects of these portfolio strategies. The key findings from the two studies revealed that having a small number of partners compared to a large number did not lead to a significant difference in publics’ evaluations of the nonprofit. Inclusion of partners within the same business industry compared to diverse industries also did not affect publics’ evaluations. However, displaying partners of the same organization type, as compared to different organization types, led to stronger intention to support the nonprofit. Both industry…

▼ Completion of the project is considered as a source of concern to both public and
private sector clients. Project implementation varies among various options. In all the
implementation options, various factors will play out to determine if the project will be
implemented successfully. The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of
public private partnership on completion of water project in UasinGishu County, Kenya.
The study specific objectives were to determine how financial support by public private
partnership model influences completion of water project, establish how technical
expertise by public private partnership model influence completion of water project.
Ascertain how budgetary plan by public private partnership model influence completion
of water project and establish how community support by public private partnership
model influence completion of water project. The study was informed by transactional
cost theory and stakeholders’ Theory. Descriptive survey research design was employed
in the study. From the target population of 395 employees the study used simple random
sampling technique to select a sample size of 198. The study used five point structured
questionnaires and document analysis as the main tools for collecting data. Cronbach
Alpha Coefficient indicator was used to test internal consistency of the items. Data was
analysed using both descriptive and inferential analysis. Descriptive methods such as
frequencies mean and standard deviation were used to provide general trends of the data.
Inferential statistics included Pearson correlations to show the relationship between
variables. Results were interpreted and required recommendations made at the end of the
study. It was found that financial support as a component of PPP model, the study
revealed that partners assist in connecting the potential donors for funding. The partners
also ensure that no operation is affected by inadequate funds. They assist in the
management of funds and ensure that utilization of funds is monitored by both
partners, technical expertise provided within PPP model showed that employees with
expertise are provided by the partners, budgetary plan revealed that all partners participate
in the budgeting process. Also, their partners’ explanations are provided when the budget
is revised. Free discussions between partners on the budget are increased and contribution
from partners to the budget is viewed importantly. Additionally, communication of
xi
details of budget policy and guidelines to people responsible of preparation of budget is
often made. There is however doubt if proposals relating to the budget are challenged
before development of budget. Finally, community support revealed that the community
participates in project planning. It does this by providing a human force. Additionally,
free discussions between partners on community are encouraged. The contribution from
the community is viewed importantly hence the project partners allow community
opinions and views. As…

▼ Parent Involvement is a vital component to the success of children academically but also the success of schools and communities. Head Start has the prestige of being the first program to value the importance of parent involvement. Parent involvement has many sub-categories that must be analyzed in order to document the success of the involvement of parents. In this study, the focus is how parent's participation in a shared-decision/governance
partnership is empowering for parents and does the participation of parents produced outcomes that match the expectations of the Head Start philosophy. The results of this study suggest that parents who participated in their Head Start program's Policy Committee had not met the standards required from the Head Start program.

▼ The demands for delivering basic infrastructure services keep growing worldwide. However, funding from government and public agencies alone cannot cover the capital needed to operate and maintain existing infrastructures, much less to construct new ones. Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), utilizing private capitals, are an innovative and cost-effective financing mechanism to solve this budgetary shortage problem. PPPs are becoming accepted by more and more public agencies all over the world as an alternative option to bridge the budget gap. However, this financial mechanism is relatively new and many institutions are still exploring the tool. In this thesis research, basic procedures and useful resources for conducting various analyses related to PPP projects are synthesized and discussed based on a wide range of literature. Basic concepts, such as project finance, value for money, and financial viability, are first presented as an introduction to PPPs. Then the differences of PPP development between developed countries and developing countries are discussed. Since risk analysis is the key part in PPP project analyses, information on risk identification, quantification, allocation, and management is illustrated with examples. Furthermore, resources such as web-based tools and mathematical models applicable to dealing with PPP projects and quantifying risks associated with PPP procurements are provided. This thesis can help both public and private sectors better understand PPPs.

▼ United Kingdom (UK) health policy over the past thirty years has been predicated on a partnership model focusing on empowering service users to be fully involved in their care. Within maternity care partnership relationships have been conceptualised as empowering women to have continuity, choice and control (Department of Health (DoH), 1993), within a relationship of personal autonomy between the woman and her carers. In this study I sought to identify the extent to which the Government agenda for partnership working and choice is realised or desired by women during pregnancy and childbirth. In addition, I wanted to examine the level of alignment between the views of midwives with that of women accessing the maternity services. This study took a qualitative approach, drawing on the principles of grounded theory. In the first phase of the study a purposive sample of sixteen pregnant women were recruited and invited to complete a diary and to take part in two interviews. Women maintained diary entries following appointments with the midwife during pregnancy and childbirth. Semi–structured interviews were undertaken at 36 weeks of pregnancy and four weeks after the birth, based on the diary entries. In the second phase, four focus groups were undertaken with two groups of community midwives and birth centre midwives from two National Health Service (NHS) Trusts. Quotes from the diary-interviews from phase one were utilised to develop three vignettes which acted as a prompt during the focus group interviews. Following a thematic analysis of the data, I analysed women’s views on partnership working and choice. Most women in this study did not feel that they developed a partnership relationship with the midwife. This was associated with a lack of continuity of care and insufficient time to engage in meaningful discussion in an environment which was not conducive to shared decision making. Women described wide variations on the midwives role in supporting decision making. This ranged from decisions being dictated to midwives guiding choices and for some women, being facilitated to make informed choices. Many women described input of family and friends and widespread use of the internet as an information source. Women depicted their antenatal midwifery care as medicalised and felt that whilst their bio-medical needs were met their psycho-social and emotional needs were not. Women described the visits frequently as ‘in and out’ or ‘ticking the boxes’ to describe this approach to care. A small number of women (n=5) did experience a partnership relationship. Three of these women knew the midwife from a previous pregnancy; the remaining two women attended a midwifery led unit for all of their care. In relation to the choice agenda, most of the women who participated in this study were not aware that they had a choice about who provided their care or where they would have their care. The midwife focus groups concurred with the women’s findings and suggested that a lack of time was a significant factor hindering the formation of a…

▼ Partnerships between federal land management agencies and non-profit organizations have existed in various forms for decades, benefiting public lands in myriad ways. However, the consistent decline in agency budgets and available staffing dedicated to Wilderness stewardship have created a need for and subsequent boom of Wilderness stewardship -focused nonprofit organizations across the country. Previous literature addresses the elements of a successful partnership in a more generalized fashion, leaving a need for more empirical examination of the key components of a successful Wilderness stewardship partnership. Thirty semi-structured interviews were conducted with Wilderness stewardship nonprofit staff and staff from the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Fish and Wildlife Service. This paper examines a subset of the results, focusing on three dominant keys to success: clear and common goals, nurturing relationships, and understanding process. The findings and conclusions highlight specific recommendations for individuals and organizations in the Wilderness stewardship field who are interested in partnership development.

▼ In this paper we divide pressure function to two types to explain everyday life in an easy way, proving that some people do enjoy the stress, while the most others choose to stay away. Besides, when everyone is facing the same
partnership cost, there must be a Cournot-Nash equilibrium no matter whether they have the same sensitivity. Also, while facing different costs with the same level of perceiving, one may work harder when the higher the otherâs marginal is.
On the other hand, conclusions are derived from simulated data due to different partner cost: first, the motivation will be stronger with more difference received by each other. Second, if all participants have the same sensitivity, the level of diligence differs more in less-sensitive
partnership group but less in more-sensitive one.

▼ It has been increasingly established in literature that the educational outcomes for adopted children and young people are comparatively low across a range of measures, when compared to non-adopted children (Gore-Langton, 2017). Indeed, the educational outcomes of this group remain a priority at government level, as evident in a range of recent policies (for example pupil premium funding, designated teacher for previously looked after children). Literature highlights that adoptive parents encounter many challenges in their experiences with schools (e.g. a lack of staff understanding of adoption; communication; information sharing; ostracism) often leading to them becoming "battle weary" (Phillips, 2007). However, there is little literature that details the experiences of home-school partnership with adoptive families (Goldberg & Smith, 2014). With Parent-school partnership heavily cited in educational literature as essential to educational success (Hattie, 2008), such research with adoptive families is arguably of importance. The study presented here employs a qualitative, two phase research design. In phase one, semi-structured interviews were conducted with five adoptive parents and five teachers. These interviews sought to elicit the individuals' experiences of partnership, with a particular focus upon (i) how parents related their experiences to Hart's Ladder (1997) model of partnership; and (ii) the factors which influence partnership working (either as barriers or facilitators). In phase two, semi-structured interviews and a card-sort design were used with a sample of five SENCos. This phase explored how SENCos conceptualised the needs of adoptive parents (in comparison with the experiences parents reported in phase one), and how SENCos viewed that partnership practices with adoptive families could be improved. The data was analysed using thematic analysis in order to address the research questions. The findings highlighted that (i) parents were able to relate their partnership experience to Hart's Ladder (1997) model; (ii) a variety of factors influencing partnership were established and there was some commonality between factors identified by parents and those identified by school staff. In phase two, the findings highlighted that (i) whilst SENCos were aware of many factors identified by parents, they tended not to anticipate more affective and perception-based factors; and (ii) that SENCos identified a variety of ways in which partnership could be improved with adoptive parents (through development at a school, broader professional and local authority level). Throughout both phases the overarching themes of a lack of understanding of adoption and a need to broaden the partnership were evident. The findings offer insight and thematic models to understand a sparsely researched area; several implications for EP practice are also highlighted and discussed.

The creation of infrastructure services and products has traditionally been the responsibility of the government, but this has changed with the private sector becoming more involved through public private partnerships. This change has been driven by the need for better value for money to the end user and the private sector's ability to achieve higher efficiencies. The extent to which value for money will be achieved will be largely dependent on the correct risk allocation between the parties involved. An optimum risk allocation will ensure that the risk. Pricing is kept to a minimum and thus achieve a cost effective product or service.

▼ This research project seeks to understand the influence of mutuality on the effectiveness of a
partnership through a case study of a school triangular cooperation partnership. This is a partnership
between members of the OECD Development Assistance Committee and pivotal countries to implement
programmes or projects in beneficiary countries. This form of cooperation is seen as a complement of
both North-South and South-South cooperation. To achieve this, triangular cooperation is guided by a
number of principles one of which is mutuality. Mutuality is seen as a means of creating win-win
situations for the parties involved and is considered a success factor for effective partnerships. However,
even in the practice of South-South cooperation (that is viewed as most mutual), critics observe that this
win-win situation is never achieved. The importance of this principle in the practice of effective
triangular cooperation is thus put to doubt.
Therefore, the main objective of the study is to determine to what extent the variations in mutuality
influence the effectiveness of Triangular cooperation education partnerships. This analysis is based on
mutuality indicators of effective communication and coordination, participation and inclusivity, mutual
accountability and, mutual resource contribution and access. The existence of these indicators in the
partnership is investigated and then a further analysis of their influence on the partnership effectiveness
indicators of goal achievement and partner satisfaction is done.
The study is carried out as a qualitative case study. The study areas are three schools involved in the
partnership in Malawi (Bambino Primary School), Zimbabwe (St. Paul’s Primary School) and in Norway
(Trosvik Skole). Primary data was collected from respondents from these three schools categorized in
two: partnership leaders and committee members. The data was collected through in-depth interviews
and semi-structured questionnaires for the leaders and committee members respectively. Key
informants drawn from the education, public and non-governmental sectors were also used as data
sources. Secondary data sources were from books, journals and partnership documents. The analysis of
the data was through content analysis.
Key research findings show that this partnership started as a triangular cooperation from the onset and
that it exhibits typical triangular cooperation characteristics as discussed in literature. The partnership
formation process was initiated and handled by the Norway coordinator with little involvement of the
two South schools. The Norway school is the donor partner while the Malawi school seems to be the This research project seeks to understand the influence of mutuality on the effectiveness of a
partnership through a case study of a school triangular cooperation partnership. This is a partnership
between members of the OECD Development Assistance Committee and pivotal countries to implement

▼ JEL Classification: F23 - Multinational Firms; International Business; O1 - Economic Development
The purpose of this thesis is to develop a business model for companies that do foresee the Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP) as a promising and challenging market, that can enhance their position in the competitive context. According to Prahalad’s definition, ―world’s 4 billion poor, people who live on far less than $2 a day‖, are located at the BoP (Prahalad & Hart, first quarter 2002).
Angola, the target market of this study, is one of the world’s poorest countries and one the fastest growing economies. It started reinventing itself economically and politically, after the end of the civil war in 2002, creating the right conditions for companies to invest. Angola attracted since 2003 over 1.124 projects representing more than USD 4 billion in investment capital. This study describes the benefits Angola, as fast growing economy, brings to foreign investors and the many advantages it presents mostly to Portuguese companies due to its long-relationship with Portugal. Doing business in Angola can lead to an indirect development of other sectors, welfare increase and competition. Based on the experience of ONI Communications in vertical solutions, this study developed a business case where farmers subscribed at a farmer cooperative benefited from information on market prices, new products and farming techniques, or accessed micro-credit. The synergies resulted from the partnership among a Portuguese company, a state-owned Angolan company, and a cooperative with a big impact on the target Market at an educational level, or in both infrastructures and sector development. The long relationship between Portugal and Angola, their common bonds and similarities bring benefits to this partnership.
Angola is a market to be explored, although still living the consequences of the Civil War.
With this study a new way to explore markets similar to Angola was developed and a new way to benefit from its emerging opportunities.

▼ The South African urban renewal and development
environments are facing a number of challenges. South Africa, like
many countries around the world, is experiencing challenges
delivering to its citizens, facilities, infrastructure and
services, at a rate fast enough to satisfy the public demand.
Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) are a possible solution to
curbing the disparity between these levels of supply and demand.
The field of urban renewal and development is no different in this
regard. In fact, urban renewal projects act as an effective measure
when gauging the success rate of PPPs within a country. This is due
mainly to the sheer size of these projects, which by their very
nature, demand a certain involvement from numerous parties. While
PPPs may act as an effective aid for government to increase
procurement and service delivery, these initiatives are not without
their problems, in fact these partnerships are often plagued with
much uncertainty. This research aims to provide insight into
factors affecting PPPs, both negatively as well as positively, and
specific to the area of urban renewal and development. The first
stage of the research involved semi-structured interviews that were
conducted with industry experts. This allowed for the next stage of
research which involved surveying employees in the relevant
industry through a structured questionnaire. Based on the findings
of this research, as well as knowledge garnered from a review of
available literature surrounding this topic, a model was created to
provide users with a clear consolidated view of factors affecting
PPPs in general and specific to the urban renewal and development
sectors.

▼ Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe
meaningful interactions with health care providers (HCPs) from the
perspectives of family caregivers of persons with dementia (PWD). A
secondary purpose was to understand ways in which family caregivers
obtained needed information for managing uncertainty associated
with providing care for a PWD. Background: Family members of PWD
often assume the caregiver role, but lack preparation for the
psychological and practical ramifications of caring for someone
with a progressive, terminal illness (Alzheimer's Association,
2011a). Lack of preparedness for caregiving impacts well-being and
quality of life throughout the caregiving experience (Lilly,
Robinson, Holzman and Bottorff, 2012). Meaningful interactions with
HCPs have the potential to improve preparedness and alleviate
suffering of caregivers, promote caregiver well-being and
positively impact treatment provided to PWD. Methods: Qualitative
description was used to obtain rich, straightforward descriptions
from perspectives of participants. Congruent with this approach,
findings were reported with minimal inference. Results: Positive
meaningful interactions with HCPs included interactive dialogue,
partnering between HCPs and caregivers, and a sense of being known
as individuals with unique needs. Negative meaningful interactions
were characterized as lacking one or more of those components.
Participants used multiple strategies to obtain information and
manage uncertainty associated with caregiving. Efforts to obtain
care for PWD were often complicated by challenges of a health care
system that was not designed to meet the needs of PWD. Conclusions:
HCPs have opportunities to improve interactions, provide support
and increase preparedness for family members providing care for
PWD. HCP: caregiver partnerships can improve care for PWD and
mitigate stressors inherent in the caregiving role. Corrective
experiences may change caregivers' perceptions and provide
opportunities for HCPs to intervene, engage and partner with health
care consumers. Nurses are particularly well-suited to taking a
leadership role in fostering partnerships and helping to design a
dementia-ready system to meet the needs of PWD and those who care
for them.

▼ The UPS Store franchise system has failed to address the changing consumer and economic patterns. As a result, franchisees have failed to build and maintain revenue sources. In this study, the operations of one franchisee is studied in detail to determine the underlying reasons for declining revenue and identify potential solutions that address these issues. Data was collected from the 7 locations owned by the ownership group and analysis was conducted to identify patterns and reasons for revenue decline. Additionally, solutions are offered to the franchisee and the optimal solution was selected for a trial which was conducted at one center for a 6-month period. Results from this trial were studied and it was found that the solution showed signs of significant success. The optimal solution is a strategy of building partnerships with consumers to sell additional products and create consumer loyalty. The success of the trial gives a blueprint for the ownership group to deal with current and future challenges.

▼ In 2009, the Zambian government enacted the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Policy and Act No.14. The act was aimed at reversing stifled development across the country using private financing. Even with legislation in place, prospective developers often weigh risks of implementing PPP projects in Africa. For Zambia, unclear and protracted negotiation procedures have tainted the performance of such executed projects. Consideration of risk allocated to the developer influences decisions made regarding timely execution of projects. The research aimed to determine critical success factors and mitigation impacts used in successfully implemented PPP projects. Data gathered on risk allocation decision-making processes used a mixed research method that included structured interviews, a questionnaire survey and two case studies. Descriptive analysis, Rotated Component Matrix and Pearson Correlation Coefficients were used to establish relationships between independent and dependent variables for allocated risk. The ontological and epistemological philosophical basis of the researcher utilised a positivistic pragmatic constructionist analytical explanation of the PPP phenomena on two projects in Zambia. These were University of Zambia East Park Mall development and the Kasumbalesa Border infrastructure.
The percentage survey response was 46% obtained from 47 analysed questionnaires out of the 120 that were administered. Results indicated professionals‟ inability to evaluate developer‟s risks particularly at the proposal assessment stage. The PPP contract outlines risk to the parties involved. Technically, project developers show greater preparedness during negotiations in bargaining for their allocated risk. Decisions made, therefore, were found not to consist of relevant inputs from areas of risk allocation and risk mitigation to ensure project success by those evaluating schemes. The research proposed a decision-making framework for the timely execution of such projects in Zambia. This decision-making framework would limit the time of implementing PPP projects from three to five years to less than two years and would cover all the phases, namely; the proposal submission, negotiation, the construction and operation stages.

▼ In addressing external and internal pressures, large legal Professional Service Firms (PSFs) in Australia are adopting a more commercial and managerial orientation. Senior practitioners and legal institutions express concern over this increasing threat to the traditions of the profession. Examining two large commercial law firms and one smaller, the research employs a comparative case study approach to understand the extent of managerialism in the firms, outcomes for the profession and outcomes for its members. Drawing on archetype theory to frame the research, qualitative and quantitative methods were applied to determine the correspondence of each case firm to a traditional professional archetype form, the Professional
Partnership (P2) or the Managerial Professional Business (MPB). Data from lawyers from the three case-study firms was collected and analysed to better understand individual lawyer responses to increased managerialism. The research found that while the larger firms correspond to many of the elements of the MPB, important differences emerged. First, a retention of traditional professionalism remains evident in the firms, as partners and specialist managers attempt to maintain a semblance of conventional values, structure and systems. Second, some elements of managerialism are more extensive than those articulated in the MPB. Accordingly, a new archetype form is proposed, the Professionally Managed
Partnership (PMP). This more accurately describes the organisation and management of these firms, and possibly the broader sector of large commercial firms. The smaller case firm in general displays more traditional values, beliefs, structures and systems, yet is not entirely of the P2 type. The individual professional responses further revealed that lawyers in all case firms accommodate facets of managerialism, and the norms and practices of this altered professional mode are accepted and understood. The thesis proposes that the intersection of managerial and traditional values and beliefs exist within a new conceptualisation of professionalism, incorporating greater market dominance while retaining features of tradition. Market professionalism places the client at the centre of the professional environment and incorporates managerial practices, within a traditional
partnership structure, to meet client demand. These managerial and market features may become commonplace in the legal sector, signalling a permanent alteration in professionalism.

▼ Recent completion of a mile-long flood-control tunnel beneath the urban core of Austin, Texas, promises to reconfigure a large swath of its downtown. The tunnel receives storm water runoff that previously flowed into Waller Creek, a long-neglected waterway historically prone to catastrophic flooding. With the massive public works project having removed 28 acres from the creek’s 100-year flood plain by virtually eliminating the threat of future inundation, wholesale redevelopment of the area has begun. Concurrently, plans are moving forward to create a linear greenway that will snake through 15 downtown blocks along the newly tamed creek channel. Supporters of the greenway see the parkland improvements as a catalyst for private development on adjacent sites. To ensure that parkland isn’t isolated from adjacent private parcels, several public-private partnerships have been forged to integrate the public and private realms. As further redevelopment takes place, additional
partnership opportunities are likely to arise. This report details several public-private partnerships that already have helped expand the greenway’s public realm, and also highlights opportunities for similar mutually beneficial partnerships.

▼ LR Konstitucija šalyje numato vienintelį
šeimos kūrimo būdą – santuoka įregistruotą vyro ir moters sąjungą.
Atsiradus LR CK trečiosios knygos XV skyriaus nuostatoms,
leidžiančioms įregistruoti partnerystę, atsiranda santykiai savo
prigimtimi labai artimi santuokai.
mirties. Lieka neaišku, ar registruoto partnerio paveldėjimo
galimybės numatytmas neprieštarautų esamiems įstatymams, o to
nenumačius nediskriminuotų asmenų, pasirinkusių gyvenimą ne
santuokoje, tačiau kuriant šeiminius santykius. Darbe analizuojama

A marriage between a man and a woman is the
only way in Lithuania to created official family relationship
according to the Constitution of Lithuanian Republic. After a
Project for Registered Partnership was published the relationship
of registered partnership and marriage apparently came to be very
close in their essence. In 2001 when the Civil code of Lithuanian
Republic came into force, the XV chapter of the Civil code foreseen
the regulation for the registered partnership. The Registered
Partnership Law that should regulate such relationship started to
be considered as early as 2004 but still is under construction. It
is clear that during a period of seven years the law did not come
into force and people who have chosen to live in partnership are
left without legal regulation of their relationship. Laws that
could be currently applicable do not regulate registration or
decline of the relationship it also does not provide any remedy for
the surviving partner of the couple. Changing attitude in the
society towards a life in unmarried relationship start to hold such
union a form of family. While analyzing similarities of partnership
with marriage we could find many things that are the same in both
relationships. If partnership and marriage are alike, then we face
an issue, when a law does not regulate a relationship that is in
need of such regulation. People who spend most of their lives
together creating a household and bringing up the children are left

▼ The purpose of this study was to study how one region
in Oregon formed and began implementing a statewide pilot known as
the Regional Achievement Collaborative. This research utilized the
research around policy implementation theory and the work around
collective action and multi‐organizational
partnership theory as a
lens from which to study one region’s adoption and implementation
of a state initiative. This study found that the region’s success
of this initiative was rooted in the connection of the policy to
previous partnered work in the area. Additional findings suggested
that the participation of top leaders, time for relationship
building, trust and common visioning were critical success factors.
The data suggested that the expansion of the
partnership created
challenges to building trust and buy‐in between some new
participants while at the same time moving to implement ideas.
Additionally the need for an intermediary support organization to
manage large multi‐organizational partnerships was
evident.

▼ The trend is moving towards public and private actors collaborating in construction projects. Public actors are striving to take advantage of the private sectors strengths, in order to achieve better performance of projects. Going from arm’s length relationship to a close long-term strategic partnership, by sharing risks, costs and skills in order to create a win-win situation for both of the parties. Collaboration is a cornerstone for a successful project, where communication, teamwork, leadership, trust and common aims are some of the contributing factors for achieving successful collaboration. Quality, time and budget are also factors for a successful project. This report is investigating the collaboration and success factors for a built city area by a consortium of private and public actors. The case is at a public city developer which was working in a consortium to develop the city area and they worked by an appreciated collaboration model developed by the city developer. The empirical information has been gathered through internal documents and interviews from the involved actors. One part of the results deems the city developer as a good and experienced project leader, who knew what they wanted to achieve with the area. It existed a clear vision about the area, but that vision was forgotten during the progress of the project. The results of the report show that the communication functioned well and there was a general mutual commitment and level of ambition, except for one incident where two actors left the consortium in advance. Time and budget of the project did not reach the initial planning while the quality was high, though depending from which perspective one look at. Overall the collaboration was successful. Recommendations are presented to the case company and include; to better communicate the vision during the whole project and that all actors should be involved from beginning to the end. Regarding the quality factor, better social parameters could have been more included. Future research can investigate quality parameters in a more detailed way, together with research about the collaboration.

▼ As the struggle to attract, engage and develop talent in knowledge intensive firms increases, this paper sought to uncover succession-planning strategies professional services firms may employ to attract Chartered Accountants to
partnership. Designed as an organizational action research study, this investigation elicited the perspectives of Chartered Accountants using a survey and interviews. Chartered Accountants at all stages of their career development at Collins Barrow Calgary LLP were targeted, including newly designated professionals, Managers, Senior Managers and Partners. The study found that although the role of partner is unclear to research participants, autonomy, compensation and an established firm infrastructure are enticing. Study recommendations included the creation of a compelling vision to educate and engage prospective partners, communicating attractants and barriers to advancement to partner and enhancing existing
partnership talent development programs. This organizational action research project was designed in full compliance with Royal Roads University's (RRU) (2007) Research Ethics Policy.

▼ Abstract
When the enterprise competition is no longer the individual show that will play singles fights alone, but is the supply chain or the network team war. The
partnership importance grows day by day. In transforming process from âyou, Iâ to âusâ, the reciprocal benefit and mutual trust are playing tug-of-war with the self-interest and selfishness, that will cause the synthesis effect by the cooperation or perhaps will make loss because of noncooperation. This research origin is created by a new born venture case of an international merger & acquisition. As a result of product characteristic is combined by the electronic and textile industry, collected on the modern science and technology and traditional process in a body. It faced the defeat and crisis because of the careless and indiscreet on the
partnership management. After redesigning the transnational organization and establishing the unique supply chain, actually the cooperation synthesis effect causes the new venture to develop turns defeat into victory. The market share and the profit rate large are getting better. It also integrates the resources to get fine solid market competitive power. However, after we get the factors of the goal, the benefit, the risk, the specialty and the share, the communication and the culture, promise and crisis, how to carry on the management to obtain the high quality partner cooperation?
This research utilized the qualitative case study technique, reconstructed the experience to narrated three sections of stories, the dialectical analysis will inquire into the enterprise merger & acquisition, the transnational associates and the core supplier
partnership management to get the conclusion and the principle as below.
1. The
partnership of the enterprise merger & acquisition started fromâthe common interestâ, but is terminated easy byâthe crisisâ.
2. The
partnership of the transnational associates was established onâspecialtyâand facilitated the cooperation withâcommunicationâ.
simultaneously we must paid attention to the difference ofâthe cultureâextremely, and established âthe shareâ interaction, but can avoid both sides did not cooperate or is perfunctory to develop
partnership because of the inter-competition point of view.
3. The core supplier's
partnership, must be established above the long-term strategy, both sides were working by the supplementary operation pattern, set upâthe common goalâas the cooperation principle, and do the management and the execution to solid âpromiseâ, and must positively manage the conflict of âthe cultureâ difference.

▼ This study highlights the impact of partnership in educational provision to
vulnerable HIV/AIDS - affected children in Zambia. It was conducted in
Chongwe District in Lusaka Province. Chongwe Distrie\has four chiefdoms and
is occupied by soli speaking people. Part of chief Nkomesha's area was used as
the study site. Quantitative and qualitative research methods were used for data collection. The researcher used a questionnaire, Focus Group Discussions and
interviews as data cellection instruments. The District Commissioner, District
Education Board Secretary, Education Officers, Health workers, community
leaders, World Vision area Manager and the Communities participated in the
questionnaire, Focus Group Discussion sand /or interview exercises. The
questionnaire and Focus Group Discussion document had close and open-ended
questions while interviews were unstructured. The respondents were therefore
free to express their views.
The findings of the study revealed that partnership in educational provision to
vulnerable HIV/AIDS-affected children had a positive impact. The partners
contributed to nutrition, health care, shelter and clothing ofthe vulnerable
children, motivating them to continue with education. The guardians and Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) cited lack of
provision of life-skills and psycho-social care .Bad morals like beer drinking by
boys and early involvements in sexual relations by girls were things that
contributed to school dropout.
Poor implementation of government policy was also found to be affecting
vulnerable children's access to education. This was evidenced by unfulfilled
promises, e.g. vulnerable children were not a priority in as far as the distribution
of education materials and enrolments are concerned, even if written policy stated
so. There was also government's failure to distribute educational materials to
basic schools. The study ended up recommending that the government should improve the funding to basic schools as a solution to the main problem of charging pupils through Parent Teacher Associations (P.T.A.). The ..study discovered that
providing life- skills training to vulnerable children would best address the
problem of continual dependence on Non Governmental Organisations (NGO). In
addition to this, households headed by grandparents, children and chronically ill
guardians should be empowered with livestock restocking for selfsustainance. It
was also recommended that NGOs should concentrate on rural areas where no
other NGO operated from.

▼ Parent-school communication is a highly valued type of involvement for parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), but parents continue to report poor communication as a barrier to working with the schools on behalf of their children. Although sometimes informally addressed using school-home notes, no research has examined the effects of such home-school communication interventions for children with ASD. Using a multiple-baseline design, I evaluated the effectiveness of a school-home note and home-based contingent reinforcement in decreasing the off-task behavior of students with ASD at school. I also evaluated secondary effects on parent involvement and compared teacher-reported and researcher-reported data on changes in student behavior. Finally, I evaluated social validity to consider the feasibility and acceptability of this teacher- and parent-implemented intervention. With two demonstrations of effects based on both researcher-collected and teacher-collected data, I was unable to demonstrate a functional relation between the school-home note intervention and reductions in students’ off-task behavior. Parents and teachers also did not report quantitative changes in involvement. However, parents and teachers reported high social validity for the school-home note and home-based contingent reinforcement. Implications for practice and future research, as well as limitations are discussed.

▼ This dissertation consists of four chapters. The first chapter examines the turnover of multiperiod partnerships. The turnover of multiperiod partnerships such as marriages, labor contracts, and joint ventures varies over time and across countries. A model is set out in which these different observations arise as multiple equilibria. In a random pairwise matching model, players are heterogeneous in time preference and each pair plays a prisoners' dilemma game with random payoffs from mutual cooperation. Two steady states are constructed: in one, non-myopic players cooperate even when a match has low payoffs from mutual cooperation; in the other, they cooperate only when a match has high payoffs from it. Transition dynamics across the two steady states are studied. For a numerical example, it is shown that a transition in either direction is an equilibrium.
The last three chapters are contributions to monetary economics. In the second chapter, written jointly with Yu Awaya, a counter-example to the notion that money is memory is provided – one that relies on incomplete information. For it, there exists an implementable allocation with money which is not implementable with memory. The result arises because money conveys only a limited amount of information about past actions which can be beneficial in settings with incomplete information.
In the third chapter, I examine a necessary condition for fiat money to be essential. Fiat money, an intrinsically useless object, is said to be essential if some good allocations are achieved with it but not without it. It is shown that imperfect monitoring is necessary for money to be essential in a large class of economic environments. This provides a guide for the construction of models in which monetary trade achieves good outcomes.
In the fourth chapter, written jointly with Yu Awaya, it is shown that a seemingly strong condition is not sufficient for money to be essential. Money is thought to be essential when it is difficult to monitor others' behavior. We provide a counterexample to the view. For it, it is shown that even if there is no monitoring, money is inessential – the first best allocation can be attained without money (or any other form of monitoring).

▼ In 2014 EU-China relations have been substantially reformed with a new comprehensive strategic
partnership agreement. It is ever more important for the EU to have a coherent EU-wide policy approach towards China as it creates greater mutual benefits for all member states. With a trade volume of 428 billion€ in 2013 and annual trade growth rate of 6.8% since 2009, the PRC is one of the EU’s most significant partner in trade and vice versa. Moreover, both regions could potentially impact international relations altogether by jointly challenging conventional norms and US hegemony via international institutions. Yet, various disputes have previously hampered the success of the strategic
partnership. These include uncertainty within the EU to what direction the
partnership should take, and, the weak institutional mechanism of annual summits with no clear objective. The goal of this dissertation is therefore, to find out what has to change in the EU strategy and member states interest accumulation and perception of China that can make the relationship more effective. Accordingly, the following research questions were addressed:
How can the EU-China strategic
partnership be more effective and constructive in foreign policy making?
1. To what extent is the newly formulated Europe-China 2020 Strategic Agenda of 2013 an improvement of the EU-China strategic
partnership?
2. Are British and German national foreign policies vis-á-vis China competing with each other, which ultimately hampers the effectiveness of the EU-China strategic
partnership?
