In this work we have studied the problem of percolation in a multifractal geometric support, in its different versions, and we have analysed the conection between this problem and the standard percolation and also the connection with the critical phenomena formalism. The projection of the multifractal structure into the subjacent regular lattice allows to map the problem of random percolation in the multifractal lattice into the problem of correlated percolation in the regular lattice. Also we have investigated the critical behavior of the invasion percolation model in this type of environment. We have discussed get the finite size effects

▼ Multifractals have during the past 20 − 25 years been the focus of enormous attention in the mathematical literature. Loosely speaking there are two main ingredients in
multifractal analysis: the
multifractal spectra and the Renyi dimensions. One of the main goals in
multifractal analysis is to understand these two ingredients and their relationship with each other. Motivated by the powerful techniques provided by the use of the Artin-Mazur zeta-functions in number theory and the use of the Ruelle zeta-functions in dynamical systems, Lapidus and collaborators (see books by Lapidus & van Frankenhuysen [32, 33] and the references therein) have introduced and pioneered use of zeta-functions in fractal geometry. Inspired by this development, within the past 7−8 years several authors have paralleled this development by introducing zeta-functions into
multifractal geometry. Our result inspired by this work will be given in section 2.2.2. There we introduce
geometric multifractal zeta-functions providing precise information of very general classes of
multifractal spectra, including, for example, the
multifractal spectra of self-conformal measures and the
multifractal spectra of ergodic Birkhoff averages of continuous functions. Results in that section are based on paper [37].
Dynamical zeta-functions have been introduced and developed by Ruelle [63, 64] and others, (see, for example, the surveys and books [3, 54, 55] and the references therein). It has been a major challenge to introduce and develop a natural and meaningful theory of dynamical
multifractal zeta-functions paralleling existing theory of dynamical zeta functions. In particular, in the setting of self-conformal constructions, Olsen [49] introduced a family of dynamical
multifractal zeta-functions designed to provide precise information of very general classes of
multifractal spectra, including, for example, the
multifractal spectra of self-conformal measures and the
multifractal spectra of ergodic Birkhoff averages of continuous functions. However, recently it has been recognised that while self-conformal constructions provide a useful and important framework for studying fractal and
multifractal geometry, the more general notion of graph-directed self-conformal constructions provide a substantially more flexible and useful framework, see, for example, [36] for an elaboration of this. In recognition of this viewpoint, in section 2.3.11 we provide main definitions of the
multifractal pressure and the
multifractal dynamical zeta-functions and we state our main results. This section is based on paper [38].
Setting we are working unifies various different
multifractal spectra including fine
multifractal spectra of self-conformal measures or Birkhoff averages of continuous function. It was introduced by Olsen in [43]. In section 2.1 we propose answer to problem of defining Renyi spectra in more general settings and provide slight improvement of result regrading
multifractal spectra in the case of Subshift of finite type.

▼ There are multiple definitions for fractal dimension, and those definitions disagree. The
multifractal spectrum provides a unifying framework for a broad family of definitions of dimension, but it requires large amounts of data to compute. We provide a description of the
multifractal spectrum, one existing improvement that improves convergence for small data sets: the Extended Box Algorithm (EBA), and develop several further improvements: Local and Global Norm modifications to the EBA, the a-Norm, the Variable Box size Algorithm (VBA), and the Patchwork method.

▼ Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks remain a major threat in cybersecurity. Although extensive research has been conducted to detect and prevent DDoS attacks, industry still lacks effective tools and mechanism to achieve that goal. This is mainly due to the mutating (changing) nature of these attacks, as well as the development of new techniques used by the perpetrators of these acts. Traditional methods of dealing with DDoS attacks have proven to be deficient and inefficient in accurately detecting these attacks as most of those techniques were able to classify and detect only known classes of attacks. Therefore, successful identification of these attacks in their early stages is the utmost priority which is yet to be accomplished with all other detection techniques.
This thesis addresses some of the challenges of detecting DDoS attacks on a real-time basis. A
multifractal approach has been proposed for better and timely detection of DDoS attacks. The approach is based on measuring the complexity of the traffic self-affinity .The detection performance of this technique is compared with their traditional detection mechanisms, and an improvement in performance is reported in terms of time, computational speed, memory or resource usage and accuracy. The evaluation of the limitations of the traditional methods against
multifractal approach is also considered.
The use of
multifractal analysis in detecting DDoS attacks provides an improvement compared to other techniques as a result of the multiscale complexity measures. Since this multiscale relationship exists in the Internet traffic of packets, anomalies can be detected on increasing time scales. This makes it possible to detect the presence of such attacks in the Internet traffic, an important feature that is missing in other current alternative detection techniques.

▼ The complex behavior of a wide variety of phenomena that are of interest to physicists, chemists, and engineers has been quantitatively characterized by using the ideas of fractal
and
multifractal distributions, which correspond in a unique way to the geometrical shape and dynamical properties of the systems under study. In this thesis we present the Space of Fractals and the methods of Hausdorff-Besicovitch,
box-counting and Scaling to calculate the fractal dimension of a set. In this Thesis we investigate also percolation phenomena in
multifractal objects that are built in a simple way. The central object of our analysis is a
multifractal object that we call Qmf . In these objects the multifractality comes directly from the
geometric tiling. We identify some differences between percolation in the proposed multifractals and in a regular lattice. There are basically two sources of these differences.
The first is related to the coordination number, c, which changes along the
multifractal. The second comes from the way the weight of each cell in the
multifractal affects the
percolation cluster. We use many samples of finite size lattices and draw the histogram of percolating lattices against site occupation probability p. Depending on a parameter, ρ, characterizing the
multifractal and the lattice size, L, the histogram can have two peaks. We observe that the probability of occupation at the percolation threshold, pc, for the
multifractal is lower than that for the square lattice. We compute the fractal dimension of the percolating cluster and the critical exponent β. Despite the topological differences, we find that the percolation in a
multifractal support
is in the same universality class as standard percolation.
The area and the number of neighbors of the blocks of Qmf show a non-trivial behavior. A general view of the object Qmf shows an anisotropy. The value of pc is a function of ρ which is related to its anisotropy. We investigate the relation between pc and the average number of neighbors of the blocks as well as the anisotropy of Qmf. In this Thesis we study likewise the distribution of shortest paths in percolation systems at the percolation threshold in two dimensions (2D). We study paths from one given point to multiple other points. In oil recovery terminology, the given single point can be mapped to an injection well (injector) and the multiple other points to production wells (producers). In the previously standard case of one injection well and one production well separated

▼ In the age where quick turn around time and high speed manufacturing methods are becoming more important, quality assurance is a consistent bottleneck in production. With the development of cheap and fast computer hardware, it has become viable to use machine vision for the collection of data points from a machined part. The generation of these large sample points have necessitated a need for a comprehensive algorithm that will be able to provide accurate results while being computationally efficient. Current established methods are least-squares (LSQ) and non-linear programming (NLP). The LSQ method is often deemed too inaccurate and is prone to providing bad results, while the NLP method is computationally taxing. A novel method of using
support vector regression (SVR) to solve the NP-hard problem of cylindricity of machined parts is proposed. This method was evaluated against LSQ and NLP in both accuracy and CPU processing time. An open-source, user-modifiable programming package was developed to test the model. Analysis of test results show the novel SVR algorithm to be a viable alternative in exploring different methods of cylindricity in real-world manufacturing.

It is primordial to establish effective and robust methods to extract pertinent information from datasets. We focus on datasets that can be represented as point clouds in some metric space, e.g. Euclidean space R^d; and that are generated according to some distribution. Of the natural questions that may arise when one has access to data, three are addressed in this thesis.…

▼ The complex behavior of a wide variety of phenomena that are of interest to physicists, chemists, and engineers has been quantitatively characterized by using the ideas of fractal and
multifractal distributions, which correspond in a unique way to the geometrical shape and dynamical properties of the systems under study. In this thesis we present the Space of Fractals and the methods of Hausdorff-Besicovitch, box-counting and Scaling to calculate the fractal dimension of a set.
The second comes from the way the weight of each cell in the
multifractal affects the percolation cluster.
Despite the topological differences, we find that the percolation in a
multifractal support is in the same universality class as standard percolation. In the previously standard case of one injection well and one production well separated by Euclidean distance r, the distribution of shortest paths l, P(l|r), shows a power-law behavior with exponent gl = 2.14 in 2D. Here we analyze the situation of one injector and an array A of producers. Symmetric arrays of producers lead to one peak in the distribution P(l|A), the probability that the shortest path between the injector and any of the producers is l, while the asymmetric configurations lead to several peaks in the distribution. ▼ Often, frequency selective surfaces have received wide attention from researchers around the world because of their filtering characteristics. These structures evolved in terms of manufacturing. Thus, the geometries used, initially, were yarns in the form of a grid and later, several types of new geometries such as: rectangular, square, circular, rings, square, etc., were used. Recently, fractals and, more recently,
multifractal elements have been employed. The use of these geometries is done in order to obtain a specific frequency response. Important parameters such as bandwidth and resonant frequency are met from the use of a given geometry. In this work a
multifractal geometry with double similarity is proposed, which has as main characteristic low sensitivity to the variation of the periodicity with respect to the resonance frequency. This specificity will bring gain with regard to the elaboration of the project, because the control of the bandwidth is made only with the change of periodicity. Several simulations were implemented in Ansoft Designer and for the purpose of proving, traditional structures were simulated, aiming at demonstrating the effect of periodicity on the resonance frequency, and then two prototypes were constructed and measurements were taken to experimentally validate the simulations.

▼ In recent years studies on complex systems have been gaining strength and tools to be able to
simulate and verify their behavior statistically.Much of this is due to many systems that have
come to behave in a nonlinear and dissipative way.For these cases conventional geometries such
as Euclidean is not possible for the prowess of explaining it, with this the geometry of the fractals
emerged as an important alternative for the treatment of this medium, being laws of scales
(power) applying very well for this system being exemplified in the form of time series and
surfaces (two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometries). Thus a variety of methods were
counted for this treatment, among them are the analysis via exponent of Hurst and
multifractal
analysis. Our work aims to propose a new method to analyze two-dimensional images multifractally,
being these images coming from clouds simulations of the interstellar medium.First
step was to generate 12 MHD simulations in which they differed from values of pressure and
magnetic field, then generated the 2D image that is applied on them the
multifractal MFDMA
treatment method. With the application of this method it is possible to evaluate the images through
a frame containing the exponents of
multifractal analysis, being possible to evaluate the
scale behavior in the images and verify the degree of complexity, and to find out which sources
cause multifractality,using two methods of
multifractal analysis that are shuffling the original
image data and replacing the original data from the Fourier transform. The results show that for
all images the shuffling method can destroy the
multifractal source of the original image and
still behave like a monofractal,While the other method is ineffective, concluding that nonlinear
factors are not included among the sources and indicating as a source of multifractality the
long-range correlations. Other important results are the relation of degree of multifractity ∆h
with pressure, sonic number of Mach and number of Alfvén.

▼ Lacunarity is a technique developed for multiscale analysis of spatial data and can quantify scale-dependent heterogeneity in a dataset. The present research is based on characterizing fracture data of various types by invoking lacunarity as a concept that can not only be applied to both fractal and non-fractal binary data but can also be extended to analyzing non-binary data sets comprising a spectrum of values between 0 and 1. Lacunarity has been variously modified in characterizing fracture data from maps and scanlines in tackling five different problems. In Chapter 2, it is shown that normalized lacunarity curves can differentiate between maps (2-dimensional binary data) belonging to the same fractal-fracture system and that clustering increases with decreasing spatial scale. Chapter 4 analyzes spacing data from scanlines (1-dimensional binary data) and employs log-transformed lacunarity curves along with their 1st derivatives in identifying the presence of fracture clusters and their spatial organization. This technique is extended to 1-dimensional non-binary data in chapter 5 where spacing is integrated with aperture values and a lacunarity ratio is invoked in addressing the question of whether large fractures occur within clusters. Finally, it is investigated in chapter 6 if lacunarity can find differences in clustering along various directions of a fracture netowork thus identifying differentially-clustered fracture sets. In addition to fracture data, chapter 3 employs lacunarity in identifying clustering and multifractal behavior in synthetic and natural 2-dimensional non-binary patterns in the form of soil thin sections. Future avenues for research include estimation of 2-dimensional clustering from 1-dimensional samples (e.g., scanlines and well-data), forward modeling of fracture networks using lacunarity, and the possible application of lacunarity in delineating shapes of other geologic patterns such as channel beds.

▼ The purpose of this dissertation is to introduce a natural and unifying
multifractal formalism which contains the above mentioned
multifractal parameters, and gives interesting results for a large class of natural measures. In Part 2 we introduce the proposed
multifractal formalism and study it properties. We also show that this
multifractal formalism gives natural and interesting results when applied to (nonrandom) graph directed self-similar measures in Rd and "cookie-cutter" measures in R. In Part 3 we use the

▼ The usefulness of watershed hydrological process models is considerably increased when they can be extrapolated across spatial and temporal scales. This scale transfer problem, meaning the description and prediction of characteristics and processes at a scale different from the one at which observations and measurements are made, and has become the
subject of much current research in hydrology and other areas. Quantitative description of fractal scaling behavior of runoff and stream network morphometry in agricultural watersheds has not been previously reported.
In the present study, fractal and
multifractal scaling of daily runoff rate in four experimental agricultural watersheds and their associated sub-watersheds (32 in total) were investigated. The time series of daily runoff rate were obtained from the database (comprising about 16,600 station years of rainfall and runoff data for small agricultural watersheds across the U.S.) developed by the Hydrological and Remote Sensing Laboratory, Agricultural Research Service, US Department of Agriculture (HRSL/ARS/USDA). Fractal scaling patterns of the Digital Elevation Model (DEM)-extracted stream network morphometry for these four watersheds were also examined. The morphometry of stream networks of four watersheds were obtained by Geographic Information System (GIS) manipulation of digital elevation data downloaded from the most recent (July 2004) U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Elevation Dataset (NED). Several threshold values of contribution area for stream initiation were used to extract stream networks for each of the four watersheds.
The principal measures of fractal scaling determined for the runoff series were the Hurst exponent obtained by rescaled range (R/S) analysis, the fractal dimension estimated by the shifted box-counting method, and the
multifractal scaling function parameters (a and C1) of the Universal
Multifractal Model (UMM). Corresponding measures for the DEM-extracted stream networks at each threshold value were the fractal dimension estimated using the box-counting technique and the Horton ratios of the network.
Daily runoff rate exhibited strong long-term dependence and scale invariance over certain time scales. The same fractal dimensions and Hurst exponents were obtained for the sub-watersheds within each watershed. Runoff exhibited
multifractal behavior that was well described by UMM. The
multifractal parameters a (quantifies how far the process is from monofractality) and C1 (characterizes the sparseness or inhomogeneity of the mean of the process) were reasonably close to each other for sub-watersheds within a watershed and were generally similar among four watersheds.
For the DEM-extracted networks, the morphometric attributes and Horton ratios as well as their fractal dimensions were dependent on the threshold values of contribution area used in the extraction process. The fractal dimensions were almost identical for DEM-extracted stream networks of the four watersheds. The DEM-extracted stream network displayed a…

This work presents an innovative video and sound fusion approach by feature subset selection under the space of attributes to optimally identify insects behavior. Harris detector was used for insect movement tracking and an innovative technique of Multifractal-Wavelet was used to analyze the insect sounds. In the case of Multifractal-Wavelet, more than one mother-wavelet was tested, being the Morlet wavelet the best choice of mother-wavelet for insect sounds. The wavelet modulus maxima was proposed to extract multifractal sound attributes to be used in pattern recognition of an insect behavior. The wrapper data mining approach was used to select relevant attributes. It has been found that, in general, wavelet-multifractal based schemes perform better for sound, particularly in terms of minimizing noise distortion influence. The image features only determine the mating and the sound other behaviors. A new triangle representation of multifractal spectrum was proposed as a processing simplification.

▼ Many real world systems consist of multiple parts and processes that nonlinearly interact with each other at different time scales. Data generated by such systems often contain self-similar structures with proportional scaling of statistical properties across time-scales. It is well known that such structural richness is not captured by conventional statistics like the mean and variance. Development of methods of nonlinear dynamics that quantify complexity, self-similarity, and scaling properties of empirical signals have had a profound impact on our understanding of systems in various scientific domains. In particular, our understanding of physiological systems has undergone a paradigm shift from homeostasis to notions of operation far from equilibrium in physiological regulatory networks.
A commonly used methodology for quantifying the scaling relationships is fractal analysis, which estimates the power law exponent, H of time-series fluctuations versus time scales. However, many real world time series are determined by a multitude of exponents which has led to development of
multifractal analysis methods. The cornerstone of
multifractal analysis has traditionally been the
multifractal spectrum which is akin to a probability density of all scaling exponents in the signal.
Multifractal spectra are useful for comparing the distributions of exponents in signals. However, a
multifractal spectrum does not provide any information about the temporal evolution of scaling structures and therefore, it is less useful in studying dynamic scaling structures.
I introduce a set of tools for investigation of scaling structures across time. In particular, I propose scaling maps as a tool that augments the
multifractal spectrum with temporal information and then develop a methodology for partitioning of a time series into segments of homogeneous scaling structures. In an attempt to quantify the differences in time local scaling properties of groups of time series, I then introduce Holder histograms as a better representation of time-localized scaling properties scaling structures and propose a feature extraction methodology and statistical tests that lend themselves to quantified comparison of multiple groups of time series in terms of determining their scaling regimes and their temporal dynamics. I then empirically demonstrate the application of the developed methodology on a set of simulated and real world datasets. Result show the ability of the method in recovering scaling modes of complex signals and the quantified discriminative capability of local temporal scaling structures.

▼ Experiments with both quantitative and qualitative factors always complicate the selections of experimental settings and the statistical analysis for data. Response surface methodology (RSM) provides the systematic procedures such as the steepest ascent method to develop and improve the response models through the optimal settings of quantitative factors. However the sequential method lacks of exploring the direction of the maximum increase in the response among the qualitative levels. In this dissertation the optimal designs for experiments with both qualitative and quantitative factors are investigated. Focused on the second-order response surface model for quantitative factors, which is widely used in RSM as a good approximation for the true response surface, the approximate and exact D-optimal designs are proposed for the model containing the qualitative effects. On spherical design regions, the D-optimal designs have particular structures for considering the qualitative effects to be fixed or random.
In this study, the exact D-optimal designs for a second-order response surface model on a circular design region with qualitative factors are proposed. For this model, the interactions between the quantitative and qualitative factors are assumed to be negligible. Based on this design region, an exact D-optimal design with regular polygon structure is made up according to the remainder terms of the numbers of experimental trials at each qualitative levels divided by 6. The complete proofs of exact D-optimality for models including two quantitative factors and one 2-level qualitative factor are presented as well as those for a model with only quantitative factors. When the qualitative factor has more than 2 levels, a method is proposed for constructing exact designs based on the polygonal structure with high efficiency. Furthermore, a procedure for minimizing the number of
support points for the quantitative factors of exact D-optimal designs is also proposed for practical consideration. There are no more than 13
support points for the quantitative factors at an individual qualitative level.
When the effects between the quantitative and qualitative factors are taken into consideration, approximate D-optimal designs are investigated for models in which the qualitative effects interact with, respectively, the linear quantitative effects, or the linear effects and 2-factor interactions of the quantitative factors or quadratic effects of the quantitative factors. It is shown that, at each qualitative level, the corresponding D-optimal design consists of three portions as a central composite design but with different weights on the cube portion, star portion and center points. Central composite design (CCD) is widely applied in many fields to construct a second-order response surface model with quantitative factors to help to increase the precision of the estimated model. A chemical study is illustrated to show that the effects of the qualitative factor interacts with 2-factor interactions of the quantitative factors are…

▼ An important problem in Physics concerns the study of stochastic processes and fluctuations away from the mean of dynamical variables. In a wide range of systems, some of the observed variables have a macroscopic quality, in the sense that they represent averages or sums over time or space of "microscopic" quantities. When long-range memory or correlation effects do not play a significant role, then the necessary and sufficient conditions for the Central Limit Theorem to hold can become satisfied. Quite often, the second moments of the studied dynamical variable do not diverge, hence in many important instances, the fluctuations of many systems follow Gaussian statistics. On the other hand, complex systems generate some variabilities that often deviate them from Gaussian statistics. Here, we focus on two properties related to Gaussian fluctuations: (i) monofractality and (ii) homoscedasticity. Specifically, we first address the general question about the nature of the relationship between multifractality and heteroscedasticity. We applied multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis to a nonstationary high frequency financial time series obtained from currency markets. As a second test, we applied the technique to the audio time series of Beethoven's fifth symphony. We obtained results suggesting that heteroscedasticity can cause or increase multifractality. We also investigate in greater detail the convergence to the homoskedastic and monofractal Gaussian regime, using the mathematical formalism of Lévy sections, as previously applied to time series. We report several conclusions related to these questions and discuss the generality of these results in the context of the physics of complex systems.

Aqui, nós focamos em duas propriedades relacionadas à flutuações Gaussianas: (i) monofractalidade e (ii) homocedasticidade. ▼ The overall purpose of this thesis is to extend and
apply the Markov Switching Multifractal (MSM) model to various
economic problems. To this extent, Chapter 1 lays the ground work
for the next chapters by reviewing the MSM model, discussing its
properties and outlining its estimation procedures. The chapter
also reviews the distributional properties of several commodity
markets that make them amenable to the MSM model. Chapter 2 extends
the MSM model by incorporating a vector error correction component,
which includes in the conditional mean equation, the cointegrating
relationship between spot and futures prices. The VECM-MSM model
has two distinctive features that incorporate the empirical
properties of asset prices. First, it includes an error correction
mechanism in the mean equation that incorporates the long-run
relationship between spot and futures prices. Second, the model
specifies the conditional second moments as a bivariate Markov
Switching Multifractal (MSM) model. The VECM-MSM model is applied
to study the problem of risk hedging in the futures market. The
hedging effectiveness of the proposed VECM-MSM model is evaluated,
using a value-at-risk (VaR) approach. Specifically, we compare the
hedging effectiveness of the proposed model to those of alternative
models by assessing their unconditional and conditional VaR
coverages. Models are then ranked in terms of the adequacy and
accuracy of their hedged portfolio VaR. The in-sample and
out-of-sample hedge effectiveness shows that the VECM-MSM hedged
portfolio outperforms alternative hedging strategies in terms of
having the lowest rate of VaR violations among the different
strategies. Statistical tests of unconditional and conditional
coverages also show that the VECM-MSM model better predicts an
investor's downside risk in that the VaR predictions are more
accurate than the predictions from the alternative models. Chapter
3 of this thesis investigates the excess commodity comovement
phenomenon, using the MSM model. One of the stylized facts of
commodity prices is their tendency for comovement. The phenomenon
implies that seemingly unrelated commodities tend to move together
beyond what can be attributed to fundamentals, such as demand and
supply conditions, exchange rates, interest rates, industrial
production etc. Excess commodity comovement bears significant
welfare and risk management implications. For an instance, a
synchronous rise in prices of commodities exerts significant
inflationary pressure on commodity import dependent countries, and
limits their ability to maintain economic stability and resist
inflationary pressures. Moreover, to the extent that comovement
measures, such as correlation and covariance among commodities,
comprise an essential ingredient in risk assessment, pricing,
portfolio management and hedging, failure to account for such
excess comovement can lead to sub-optimal economic decisions.
Therefore within the debate on excess commodity comovement, the
objective of this chapter is twofold. First, it analyzes the degree
of excess…

▼ We study the boundary of the moduli space of Higgs
bundles using analytic methods such as harmonic maps and partial
differential equations to give new insight into the
geometric
properties of the space. First, we use the Korevaar-Schoen limit to
realize the boundary points of the character variety as harmonic
maps to NPC spaces and show that they induce harmonic maps to
Euclidean buildings. Restricting to SL(2, C)-representations over
compact Riemann surfaces and using Minsky's key lemmas, we prove
that an unbounded sequence of harmonic maps converges exponentially
fast in the energy to the boundary. In particular, we obtain a new
proof of a result of Taubes in dimension 2. Finally, we study the
convergence of harmonic metrics over Riemann surfaces with
punctures using Simpson's existence theorem on tame harmonic
bundles, and relate this to the convergence of cone metrics to cusp
metrics.

▼ We study the roles of domain and target curvatures in
harmonic maps into metric spaces with upper curvature bounds. We
begin computing the domain and target variation formulas,
incorporating the roles of the domain Ricci and scalar curvatures
in the former, and the target's curvature bound in the latter.
These formulas are optimal in the sense that they match the
classical formulas in the case when the target is a smooth
manifold. We then use these formulas to derive a generalization of
the Eells-Sampson Bochner formula for this case of singular
targets, generalizing the work of Chen who proved a subharmonicity
statement under stronger
geometric assumptions. Our formula
includes terms involving domain Ricci and target curvature terms
that are analogous to terms from the Eells-Sampson formula. As a
consequence of this formula we derive rigidity results for harmonic
maps, including reproving a result of Korevaar and Schoen on
rigidity of harmonic maps from flat tori to non-positively curved
spaces. We derive more consequences from our domain and target
variation formulas. First, we conclude that the distance squared of
the map to a point is a weakly subharmonic function if the image is
convex, and use this, along with a reverse Poincar\'e inequality,
to prove a Liouville-type theorem for harmonic maps from Riemannian
polyhedra to spaces with positive curvature bounds. We also analyze
conformal harmonic maps to singular spaces; for domains of
dimension at least 3, we generalize a result from the theory of
harmonic morphisms, that such maps are rescaled isometric
immersions. In dimension 2 we generalize a well known result that
gives an a-priori energy bound for conformal harmonic maps from
hyperbolic surfaces to spaces with curvature bounded above by a
negative constant.

▼ Using the recent observations of the gravitational wave GW150914 produced by the binary
black holes coalescing system, the present thesis investigates the fractal and
multifractal
nature of the temporal variation of the strain measured by the detectors of the Observatory
of Gravitational Wave by Laser Interferometry-LIGO. A selection of methods
and procedures, such as the R/S andWavelet analysis, as well as the
multifractal method
denoted by MFDMA, were used to estimate statistical parameters that synthesize the gravitational
wave as a complex time series. Whether in the Hanford or Livingston data,
the fractal analysis revealed that the series presents a behavior with strong persistence
and long-term memory quantified by the Hurst exponent. In addition, the strong agglomeration
of the fluctuations found by the R/S analysis indicates the high degree of scale
dependence characteristic of a
multifractal signal. On the other hand,
multifractal analysis
using the MFDMA method suggests that the time-series presents a predominance of
weak singularities in detriments to the strong, causing an asymmetry in the singularity
spectrum D(h). In this context, two types of procedures were performed that analyze the
possible sources of multifractality present in the time-series. The results show that procedures
point to the existence of two multifractality regimes in the time series separated
by the region where the black holes collide, referring to the Hanford data, and, for the
Livingston data, near the end of the inspiral phase. Then, the temporal evolution of the
multifractal parameters was verified, a process similar to that adopted when applying the
R/S analysis. As a result, it was found that, during the evolution of the left lateral diversity
of the spectrum D(h), this parameter undergoes a small impulse. The physical origin of this pulse may be associated with the amplitude of the memory derived from the polarization
level in relation to the observer’s line of sight. This feature may open the way for
a range of speculations, among them, the elasticity of the space-time fabric to be inferred
by the
multifractal behavior of the gravitational wave.

In the previously standard case of one injection well and one production well separated
by Euclidean distance r, the distribution of shortest paths l, P(l|r), shows a power-law behavior with exponent gl = 2.14 in 2D. Here we analyze the situation of one injector and
an array A of producers. Symmetric arrays of producers lead to one peak in the distribution P(l|A), the probability
that the shortest path between the injector and any of the producers is l, while the asymmetric configurations lead to several peaks in the distribution. We analyze configurations in which the injector is outside and inside the…

podrazumeva mogućnost pretraživanja videa na osnovu automatski
generisanih oznaka i informacija dobijenih analizom sadržaja
frejmova.
scene, sekvence i programi. Pri detekciji granica kadrova razlikuju
se dva osnovna tipa tranzicije izmedju kadrova - nagle i
gradijentne promene kadrova.
detekciju naglih promena kadrova u video sekvencama različitog
sadržaja, dinamike i nivoa postprodukcije.
i promene osvetljenja. Na obeležja frejmova primenjene su dve
različite diferencijalne metrike, korelacija i multifraktalna
analiza.
jednostavno detektovati u strukturi signala. Artefakti zbog
U domenu grubih Hölder-ovih
eksponenata multifraktalne analize, nagla promena signala se
prikazuje kao lokalni maksimum. Kombinacijom ove dve metrike
(ponovi metrike) detektuju se pozicije kandidata naglih promena
kadrova. Klasifikacija kandidata izvršena je primenom klasifikatora
baziranih na fiksnim pragovima i primenom dobro definisanih
pravila.
sekvenci različitih sadržaja, žanrova i tehnologija proizvodnje.

analysis
Kompleksnost i neregularnost objekata koji se sreću
u medicinskim istraživanjima pokazuju potrebu za pronalaženjem
novih adekvatnih načina opisivanja i za usavršavanjem postojećih
metoda. Korist ovakvih novih metoda se ističe u boljoj
klasifikaciji i razumevanju funkcije različitih fizioloških pojava
i tkiva, kao i u dijagnostikovanju i prognozama rizika nekih
oboljenja.
postojećih metoda fraktalne analize morfologije neurona i provera
prognostičkog značaja monofraktalne i multifraktalne analize
histopatoloških uzoraka tumora dojke. Predstavljene su modifikacije
metoda brojanja kvadrata, metoda brojanja segmenata i kumulativnog
metoda merenja mase. Modifikacijom metode brojanja kvadrata
postignut je optimalniji zakon skaliranja i smanjen je uticaj
promene rezolucije i rotacije objekta na vrednost fraktalne
dimenzije. Modifikovanom metodom brojanja krugova preciznije se
kvantifikuje nepravilnost dendrita. Modifikacijom kumulativnog
Monofraktalnom i multifraktalnom analizom histopatoloških uzoraka
tumora dojke na binarnim slikama i slikama sive skale došlo se do
zaključka da monofraktalna analiza slika sive skale daje najbolje
prognostičke rezultate.
