▼ The single parent family in an inner city context is
confronted with a problematic life situation. The demands, which
are brought about by single parenthood as well as residence in an
inner city environment, often lead to inappropriate parenting. The
single parent child is often disrupted on an emotional and social
level as a result. In many cases the child handles this disruption
inappropriately. The single parent family has a need for resources
in the community in order to ensure the continuous emotional,
social, psychic and physical well being of its separate members.
Involvement in gestalt group work can already be regarded as such
an important resource available to the single parent child. Through
this research study an investigation was made into the efficiency
of a gestalt group work programme in the empowerment of the single
parent child to handle the negative experiences of the single
parent situation, such as feelings of guilt, anger, confusion,
fear, inadequacy, loss, and sorrow and depression. Gestalt group
work offers an opportunity to the child to share feelings and
experiences regarding the single parent situation within the group
context and to receive support from the therapists and other group
members. This process strengthens the child’s inner self and the
child is empowered to self-support. A complete and refined gestalt
group work programme was developed and evaluated from the findings
of a literature study and empirical study. The process of
intervention research was followed during the empirical study. Data
was obtained from seven single parent children in their late middle
childhood years in an inner city context and their single parents.
The combined quantitative-qualitative approach was used for this
purpose according to the dominant-less-dominant model of Creswell.
The single-systems design was used to test the effectiveness of the
programme. The quantitative findings were obtained by
self-developed questionnaires for the child respondents and their
single parents, before and after the gestalt group work programme.
The qualitative findings were obtained by unstructured observation
during the gestalt group work sessions. According to the
integration of the quantitative and qualitative findings, the
conclusion can be made that the gestalt group work programme
brought about an improvement in the child respondents’ emotional
and social levels of functioning and their appropriate handling of
feelings. The findings obtained, suggest that the developed gestalt
group work programme can be implemented with confidence with single
parent children in their late middle childhood years in an inner
city context. Further research on the development and evaluation of
a gestalt group work programme, specifically presented to the
single parents, in order to guide and support them in the handling
of their experiences of the single parent situation, is strongly
suggested.

Agtergrond: Leergestremdheid is ’n baie algemene probleem by kinders en is
navorsingsontwerp.
oorsake leergestremd is.
kind gelei.

▼ In many developing democracies, political campaigns distribute cash and other goods to voters prior to elections in order to mobilize support. This study examines how receiving targeted benefits from political campaigns impacts three steps in the decision-making process. Each empirical chapter in this dissertation focuses on a different step in the process and tests hypotheses with original data from the Indonesian context. The first step is acceptance: voters must overcome obstacles just to receive campaign transfers. Accordingly, Chapter Two examines the economic hurdles to obtaining targeted benefits and how these hurdles affect patterns of distribution among the voting population. It outlines a micro-economic theory that explains who accepts transfers by leveraging differences in the costs of accepting cash versus accepting in-
kind transfers. Next, Chapter Three examines how targeted transfers affect voter participation in the form of turning out to vote, by those voters who do accept targeted transfers. It finds that while there is heterogeneity in how political parties mobilize voters to the polls, each strategy does increase turnout as there is no evidence of encouraging abstention among those who receive transfers. Finally, Chapter Four examines vote choice among those individuals who accepted transfers from campaigns. To test the propositions outlined in the dissertation, micro-level survey data from two typical Regency-Level elections in Indonesia are used.

▼ From the earliest civilizations, victorious armies would loot defeated cities or nations. the practice evolved into art theft as a symbol of power. Cultural superiority confirmed a country or empire’s regime. Throughout history, the Greeks and Romans cultivated, Napoleon Bonaparte refined, and Adolf Hitler perfected the practice of plunder. As the tides of Second World War began to shift in favor of the Allied Powers, special commissions, established to locate the Germans’ hoards of treasure, discovered Nazi art repositories filled with art objects looted from throughout Europe. the Soviet Union Trophy Commission and the Western Allies Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Commission competed to discover Nazi war loot. the two organizations not only approached the
subject of plunder as a treasure hunt, but the ideology motivating both commissions made uncovering the depositories first, a priority. the Soviet trophy brigades’ mission was to dismantle all items of financial worth and ship them eastward to help rebuild a devastated Soviet economy. the Soviet Union wished for the re-compensation of cultural valuables destroyed by the Nazis’ purification practices regarding “inferior” Slavic art and architecture; however, the defeated German nation did not have the ability to reimburse the Soviet State. the trophy brigades implemented a process of restitution in
kind to make physical reparations through the confiscation of Nazi war loot. the Western Allies disagreed with the Soviet Union’s policy. the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Commission endeavored to return artwork looted by the Germans to the rightful owners or surviving descendants. Historically, the Western perspective of the Soviet Union’s actions was that the trophy brigades looted the conquered German Reich; however, during the period of Glasnost and after the fall of the Soviet Union, personal memoirs and interviews of Soviet trophy brigade members and museum officials have become available, and the Soviet viewpoint better understood. By analyzing both organization’s principles and actions, historians can assume a new disposition. the trophy brigades and the MFAA worked to salvage Nazi war loot, but the two commissions took divergent approaches as to what should be done with the spoils of war. It must be appreciated that decisions made sixty-seven years ago were made by nations attempting to do what they deemed morally correct but the lack of communication behind each ideology has made Western nations stand in judgment of the Soviet Union’s response.

▼ Open-end mutual funds can use redemptions in
kind to meet investor redemption requests by delivering securities held by the fund in lieu of cash. Such a tool can mitigate the need of asset fire sales while passing associated liquidation costs to the redeeming investor. Greater asset illiquidity, greater flow volatility, and younger funds are associated with a higher likelihood of funds utilizing redemptions in
kind. Investors in illiquid funds with a greater likelihood of using redemptions in
kind exhibit less run-like behavior. Redemptions in
kind helps reduce the adverse effect of flow-induced pressure on stock performance and improve fund performance subsequent to extreme investor redemptions. Offsetting these benefits, redemptions in
kind also reduces investors’ flow sensitivity to good performance. I find further evidence suggesting that, when redeeming in
kind, funds deliver illiquid securities during periods when the market is illiquid and volatile.

▼ The sexual abuse of children presents as an ever-increasing social concern in South-Africa
and the rest of the world. A daily newspaper reports that 104 913 serious crimes against
children were reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) since 2010. Another 49
550 serious crimes against children were reported during 2012/2013 at the SAPS (Meiring,
2013:7).
The concept of child sexual abuse only became publically known in the seventies. Since
then intense research has been done in an effort to gain a better understanding regarding the
concept, causes and effects of child sexual abuse (Herbert, 2000:16). However, not only
was knowledge gained regarding the extent of child sexual abuse, but there has also been an
increase of knowledge involving the theoretical base of the methods of investigation with
regard to child sexual abuse.
Through this specific research project the researcher will endeavor to contribute to the
existing theoretical knowledge base by researching and describing the benefits of
implementing pre-forensic evaluation when investigating the presumed sexual abuse of a
child.
A summary of The Criminal Law (Sexual offences and related matters) Amendment Act 32 of
2007’s (South-Africa 2007:25-27) definition of child sexual abuse is as follow: “A sexual
offence occurs when any person engages a child (a person under the age of 18) with or
without the consent of the child, in a sexual act. Sexual act is defined as an act of sexual
penetration or an act of sexual violation. Sexual penetration can be seen as any sexual form
of penetration to any extent whatsoever by die genital organ, any body part and/or object by
one person into, or beyond, the genital organs, anus or mouth of another person”.
In order to combat the incidence and increase of child sexual abuse it is imperative that every
accusation regarding the possibility of such abuse should be investigated thoroughly. Due to
the fact that some children will only disclose sexual abuse when the are in a safe environment, the whole process could be delayed if the child does not feel safe. Johnson
(2004:465) postulates that this delay could jeopardize the whole process because when
physical healing had occurred the physical evidence could be destroyed. The absence of
physical evidence stresses the importance of the implementation of the forensic investigation
process.
Social workers are regularly required to evaluate children when sexual abuse is suspected.
This process often starts with a pre-forensic evaluation in order to ascertain the probability of
sexual abuse. If the pre-forensic investigation confirms the possibility of such abuse, the next
step is to conduct a formal forensic investigation. Clark (2007:70) explains that this
investigation is used to gather relevant factual information required for police investigation
and for use in a court of law.
Due to the seriousness and sensitivity regarding allegations of child sexual abuse, it is
imperative that the social worker should remain neutral and objective at…

▼ The analyses in my dissertation are related to how government expenditures are spent and how they should be spent as a whole. In the first chapter, the evidence of manipulation of expenditure is found and the explanation with rational voter is provided. The basic idea is that two types of incumbents will spend more money in their less-preferred sector to attract median voter when they face a small chance of winning in the following election. This expectation is confirmed using a unique Korean local government data set. The fact that there have been two dominant types of parties in Korea, and that expenditures are classified by the social development and the economic development enable this analysis. This analysis is unique in that this is the first empirical analysis trying to see how the opportunistic behavior of incumbent is done according to the probability of winning under heterogeneous preference about composition.
The second chapter examines the reason why governments transfer in-
kind goods instead of cash. While there have been several analyses of possible explanations for in-
kind transfers, the analyses based on a political view are scarce. This analysis provides the empirical evidence supporting the in-
kind transfers as a political equilibrium. Two different hypotheses inducing different expected empirical results based on a political view are provided and are tested using cross-county data. The findings show that the in-
kind transfers are increasing as the country becomes more democratic and the median voter is more away from median income.
The last chapter investigates the relationship between child labor and the participation in CCTs (conditional cash transfers) in Mexico. Since the CCTs are introduced to eliminate child labor and incentivize them to attend school, it has been thought that households with child labor are less likely to participate in the program. This chapter doubts this common belief. Because the conditionality in CCTs is normal goods and child labor could be the result of household characteristics making conditionality more valuable. The estimated probability model shows that households having child labor are actually more likely to apply to the program.

▼ In South Africa issues regarding the dissatisfactory delivery of low-cost housing developments are well known. Low-cost housing has generally been delivered in a manner which attempts to address housing backlogs, instead of focussing on establishing quality environments and sustainable communities.
In order to address the current deficient approaches to low-cost residential development, a literature and empirical investigation was conducted with the purpose of exploring the South African status quo. Issues for improvement were researched within the existing knowledge base.
The literature reviewed for this study encompassed government literature, policies and legislation as well as work from both national and international authors from a variety of fields, given the diverse nature and multiple impacts related to housing development. These literary works provided evidence to the conclusions drawn and informed the recommendations made accordingly.
The empirical research conducted included several structured interviews, the distribution of questionnaires and the evaluation of various South African case studies. Empirical results added a quantitative measure to the evidence provided by the literature study and thus offered further conclusions and recommendations.
The recommendations made were categorised according to their contribution to planning, management and design. It is believed that the adoption of these preliminary recommendations may greatly improve the housing delivery process and quality of life experienced by low-income beneficiaries. The issues covered in this study include research, conclusions and recommendations on:
* Investigating the South African status quo with regard to housing policies and legislature.
* Identifying the merits of historical theoretical models and their value in modern day housing development.
* Discussing the importance of a locally focussed development approach with regard to the role of local municipalities versus provincial authorities in low-cost residential development.
* Identifying the value of low-cost housing in local economic development and sustainable socio-economic growth.
* Discussing the role of community participation in delivering sustainable neighbourhoods and communities.
* Investigating the need for higher density development with specific reference to the integration of various housing typologies.
* Exploring the relevance and benefits of alternative construction materials in low-cost residential development.
* Exploring the informal backyard rental sector.
* Exploring the approaches followed in South African case studies of varying successes in various provinces.
It should be noted that the research conducted for this study, the conclusions drawn and the recommendations made provide substantial value, but are all mainly provided as preliminary concepts to be elaborated in a future PhD study.

▼ In computational electromagnetics, the second-
kind Fredholm integral equations (IEs) are known to have very fast iterative convergence but rather poor solution accuracy compared with the first-
kind Fredholm integral equations. The loss of the numerical accuracy is mainly due to the discretization error of the identity operators involved in second-
kind IEs. In the past decade, although much effort has been made to improve the numerical accuracy of the second-
kind integral equations, no conclusive understandings and final resolutions are achieved.
In this thesis, the widely used surface integral equations in computational electromagnetics are first presented along with the discussions of their respective mathematical and numerical properties. The integral operators involved in these integral equations are investigated in terms of their mathematical properties and numerical discretization strategies. Based on such discussions and investigations, a numerical scheme is presented to significantly suppress the discretization error of the identity operators by using the Buffa-Christiansen (BC) functions as the testing function, leading to much more accurate solutions to the second-
kind integral equations for smooth objects in both perfect electric conductor (PEC) and dielectric cases, while maintaining their fast convergence properties. This technique is then generalized for generally shaped objects in both PEC and dielectric cases by using the BC functions as the testing functions, and by handling the near-singularities in the evaluation of the system matrix elements carefully. The extinction theorem is applied for accurate evaluation of the numerical errors in the calculation of scattering problems for generally shaped objects. Several examples are given to investigate and demonstrate the performance of the proposed techniques in the accuracy improvement of the second-
kind surface integral equations in both PEC and dielectric cases. The reasons for the accuracy improvement are explained, and several important conclusive remarks are made.

▼ In the first experiment, forage samples (
n = 39) were collected during 4 years (2006
? 2009) from pastures grazed by Santa Gertrudis cattle at the King Ranch, TX. The in vitro
gas production technique (IVGP) was performed to understand the pattern of fermentation
parameters of the forage and obtain fractional digestion rate (kd) values to predict total
digestible nutrients (TDN). The best nonlinear model to describe the IVGP values of the
forages was the two-pool logistic equation. The passage rate (kp) of 4%/h was used.. The kp
predicted by the Large Nutrient Ruminant System (LNRS) model was 3.66%/h. The average
TDN was 55.9% compared to 53.8% using a theoretical equation. In the second experiment,
Brahman bulls (
n = 16) grazed Coastal bermudagrass pastures [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.]
and stocked at a moderate to low grazing pressure. Three periods of fecal collections were
made within each period. Bulls were individually fed at 0700 and 1900 h of 400 g of corn
gluten pellets containing C32
n-alkanes. Each period was divided in 2 sub periods in which fecal samples were collected 4 times a day (0700, 1100, 1500 and 1900 h).
N-alkanes in the
forage and feces were determined using gas chromatography. In the third experiment, four
methods were used to estimate dry matter intake (DMI): C31 or C33 with or without
adjustment for forage C32 (C31_0 and C33_0, respectively). There was a difference between
morning (0700 and 1100 h) and afternoon fecal collections (1500 and 1900 h) on the
predicted DMI using C31 (P = 0.0010), C33 (P = 0.0001), C31_0 (P = 0.0010), or C33_0 (P <
0.0001). There was no difference in average daily gain (ADG) between low and high
residual feed intake (RFI) (P = 0.5709). The nonparametric analysis indicated that preranking
animals for efficiency under confinement conditions does not guarantee (P <
0.0001) similar ranking under grazing conditions when using the alkane technique to
determine forage DMI. In order to estimate DMI at least 5 d of fecal collection and 2 times a
day of collection (0700 and 1500h) are needed to decrease the variability.

▼ On an everyday basis, employees may be subjected to low intensity negative behaviours from those they work with. Uncivil behaviours may cumulatively add up over time to have detrimental effects on employees’ wellbeing and commitment to stay with their organisation. Since most of the research has been cross-sectional, capturing a snapshot in time, knowledge regarding the day-to-day effects of experiencing workplace incivility is limited The broad aim of the present research was to develop a new data collection tool in the form of a digital diary Smartphone app, to explore these day-to-day effects, measuring face-to-face and online workplace incivility. Three studies were conducted to develop and test the app. The first pilot study sought to test the proposed measures for use in the app. In particular, the commonly used Workplace Incivility Scale (WIS) was adapted to apply to online as well as face-to-face interactions. Statistical analysis of this pilot confirmed that both the face-to-face and online versions of the WIS were reliable and valid, and determined that experiencing workplace incivility via both modes was significantly associated with emotional exhaustion, and intentions to quit. On the basis of the first pilot, the app was developed and its feasibility tested in a second pilot focusing on the usability of the new app, which resulted in minor design changes being implemented prior to the final launch. The main research study sought to validate the new app and test a series of hypotheses about the day-to-day effects of workplace incivility. Participants completed an initial web-based survey and were then instructed to complete the questions on the app for one month. Multilevel analyses revealed that employees experienced higher levels of emotional exhaustion, and intention to quit on days when they were exposed to face-to-face or online incivility. The amount of incivility that participants experience on a day-to-day basis (Level 1) predicts emotional exhaustion, and intention to quit on a daily basis, and the average amount of incivility (Level 2) that participants experience also predicts their emotional exhaustion, and intention to quit when not considering other factors. Anger and fear were found to mediate the relationship between both forms of incivility and intention to quit. For the rumination-mediated models, the relationship between both forms of workplace incivility and emotional exhaustion is significantly mediated by rumination. Theoretically, this research contributes by providing insight into workplace incivility and its effects on a daily basis. Methodologically, this research advances the field by providing a new reliable and valid repeated measures data collection tool that other researchers may share to overcome and build upon the limitations inherent in cross-sectional studies.

▼ On an everyday basis, employees may be subjected to
low intensity negative behaviours from those they work with.
Uncivil behaviours may cumulatively add up over time to have
detrimental effects on employees’ wellbeing and commitment to stay
with their organisation. Since most of the research has been
cross-sectional, capturing a snapshot in time, knowledge regarding
the day-to-day effects of experiencing workplace incivility is
limited The broad aim of the present research was to develop a new
data collection tool in the form of a digital diary Smartphone app,
to explore these day-to-day effects, measuring face-to-face and
online workplace incivility. Three studies were conducted to
develop and test the app. The first pilot study sought to test the
proposed measures for use in the app. In particular, the commonly
used Workplace Incivility Scale (WIS) was adapted to apply to
online as well as face-to-face interactions. Statistical analysis
of this pilot confirmed that both the face-to-face and online
versions of the WIS were reliable and valid, and determined that
experiencing workplace incivility via both modes was significantly
associated with emotional exhaustion, and intentions to quit. On
the basis of the first pilot, the app was developed and its
feasibility tested in a second pilot focusing on the usability of
the new app, which resulted in minor design changes being
implemented prior to the final launch. The main research study
sought to validate the new app and test a series of hypotheses
about the day-to-day effects of workplace incivility. Participants
completed an initial web-based survey and were then instructed to
complete the questions on the app for one month. Multilevel
analyses revealed that employees experienced higher levels of
emotional exhaustion, and intention to quit on days when they were
exposed to face-to-face or online incivility. The amount of
incivility that participants experience on a day-to-day basis
(Level 1) predicts emotional exhaustion, and intention to quit on a
daily basis, and the average amount of incivility (Level 2) that
participants experience also predicts their emotional exhaustion,
and intention to quit when not considering other factors. Anger and
fear were found to mediate the relationship between both forms of
incivility and intention to quit. For the rumination-mediated
models, the relationship between both forms of workplace incivility
and emotional exhaustion is significantly mediated by rumination.
Theoretically, this research contributes by providing insight into
workplace incivility and its effects on a daily basis.
Methodologically, this research advances the field by providing a
new reliable and valid repeated measures data collection tool that
other researchers may share to overcome and build upon the
limitations inherent in cross-sectional studies.

▼ Gifts-in-
kind (GIK) donations negatively affect the
humanitarian supply chain at the point of receipt near the disaster
site. In any disaster, as much as 50 percent of GIK donations are
irrelevant to the relief efforts. This proves to be a significant
issue to humanitarian organizations because the quantity and type
of future GIK are uncertain, making it difficult to account for GIK
donations at the strategic planning level. The result is GIK
consuming critical warehouse space and manpower. Additionally,
improper treatment of GIK can result in ill-favor of donors and
loss of donations (both cash and GIK) and support for the
humanitarian organization.
This thesis proposes a robust facility
location approach that mitigates the impact of GIK by providing
storage space for GIK and pre-positions supplies to meet initial
demand. The setting of the problem is strategic planning for
hurricane relief along the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts of the United
States. The approach uses a robust scenario-based method to account
for uncertainty in both demand and GIK donations. The model
determines the location and number of warehouses in the network,
the amount of pre-positioned supplies to meet demand, and the
amount of space in each warehouse to alleviate the impact of GIK.
The basis of the model is a variant of the covering facility
location model that must satisfy all demand and GIK space
requirements. A computational study with multiple cost minimizing
objective functions illustrates how the model performs with
realistic data. The results show that strategic planning in the
preparedness phases of the disaster management cycle will
significantly mitigate the impact of GIK.

▼ Recent advances in the study of computer networks have established 802.11 and 802.15 networks to be the unparalleled magnates of wireless network technologies. Bluetooth is an up and coming inexpensive wireless technology designed to function within a short-range and holds great promise to be the replacement for wired communication between all portable devices and detachable components of the desktop computer. However, the performance of Bluetooth can be greatly impaired due to interference with 802.11 networks which operates in the same unlicensed wireless spectrum. Hence it becomes a matter of great concern to ascertain the extent to which the two technologies can coexist without causing interference to one another. This study aims to explain how the interference occurs in terms of the underlying transmission protocols employed by 802.11 and 802.15 technologies and experimentally attempts to determine the amount of interference between the two technologies. Our results indicate that the best results can be achieved by selecting a Bluetooth packet size of 3 which guarantees good system performance even when the network is heavily congested. Additionally, limiting the piconet size to about 20 25 piconets guarantees low packet loss and high system throughput thus causing minimum interference in the wireless medium. ( en )

▼ This thesis examines the role of management accounting control practices in interorganisational alliances (IOAs) involving non-cash, value in
kind (VIK) transactions. The research involves a retrospective case study of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, which examines how the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, (SOCOG), managed and accounted for over $360 million of VIK. The case study is based on document study and interviews with individuals involved with this aspect of the 2000 Olympic Games.Following a review of previous research concerning both the life cycle (Das and Teng 2002, Moores and Yuen 2001) and the nature of formal accounting controls (Dekker 2004) in IOAs, two research questions are developed. Firstly, what kinds of formal accounting controls are required to manage VIK over the life cycle of an IOA? Secondly, how are extant accounting controls localised through the practice of managing VIK?This thesis finds the VIK resources are significant to the recipient parties and the IOAs in general. These VIK transactions, however, have been overlooked in previous accounting research with little significant recognition in prior studies or contemporary professional discourse. There is a lack of directly transferable expertise from traditional accounting practices in relation to the following aspects of the management and control of VIK recognition, planning/budgeting, procedures/rules and performance monitoring. Formal control activities were all experimented with and improvised in order to deal with the challenges presented by the significance of VIK. A drift in accounting technologies has been documented by this study (Andon et al 2007).Given the potential economic significance of VIK transactions, this suggests a need for both further research and professional discourse in this area to ensure sufficient visibility of, and management planning and control for, VIK transactions. Future research could include studies of: management and control of VIK in real time; provider organisations and the impact of VIK on their formal accounting controls; the role of social or informal controls and trust in negotiating and managing VIK; IOAs involving organisations that are operated as an indefinite going concern and, the recognition, valuation and attestation of VIK resources across a range of organisations.

▼ Background: Demonstrating bioequivalence (BE) of locally acting orally inhaled drug products (OIDPs) remains challenging. Both the European Medicines Agency and the Food and Drug Administration have proposed approaches for establishing BE of OIDPs. Both approaches comprise in vitro (e.g., determination of aerodynamic particle size distribution via cascade impactor (CI) studies) and in vivo methods (e.g., pharmacokinetic(PK) and pharmacodynamic studies) that should ensure an equivalent safety and efficacy profile of both products (i.e., test (T) and reference (R)). However,a scientific consensus about the appropriateness and/or necessity of those methods has not been reached. Two of the major problems that have not been resolved yet are (1) the lack of a statistical test for testing APSD equivalence and (2) the sensitivity of plasma concentration data to differences in pulmonary behavior. Objectives: (1) To develop and characterize a metric (i.e., modified chi-square ratio statistic; mCSRS) and a statistical method for APSD equivalence testing and (2) to develop a software tool for PK trial simulation of inhaled corticosteroids, which could be applied to elucidate the sensitivity of plasma concentration data to differences in pulmonary behavior. Methods: (1) The mCSRS was applied to CI profiles for situation in which T and R products were identical (robustness analysis) or differed from each other (sensitivity analysis). CI profiles were simulated based upon hypothetical or modified actual data. (2) A compartment model that describes the fate of ICS and incorporates physiological and patient aspects of inhalation therapy was developed and a closed-form expression for the plasma concentration time profile derived. Results: The median of the distribution of mCSRSs (MmCSRS) was one regardless of the shape and number of sites of the CI profile. The MmCSRS is more sensitive to differences that occur on high deposition sites and requires reference variance scaling for consistent APSD equivalence decision-making. 55 typical CI scenarios were classified according to expert opinion. The PK trial simulation tool was successfully developed and validated. Conclusions: A statistical test for APSD equivalence testing and a software tool published that could be applied for evaluating the sensitivity of the PK approach to pulmonary differences were developed. ▼ Disinfection byproducts (DBPs) are an unwanted
consequence of water disinfection. Consumption of chlorinated
drinking water has been associated with an increased risk of
bladder cancer; however, the DBP or DBPs responsible has not been
identified. The N-nitrosamines are a class of DBPs that are known
rodent carcinogens. They are more potent than the currently
regulated DBPs and may be capable of causing health effects at low
ng/L concentrations. Due to these possible health concerns, the
study of nitrosamines in drinking water is warranted. Gas
chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is the main technique used
for nitrosamine analysis, but cannot directly detect thermally
unstable or non-volatile nitrosamines. A liquid chromatography
tandem MS (LC-MS/MS) method was developed that is capable of
detecting GC-detectable nitrosamines, such as
N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), and GC-non-detectable nitrosamines.
Using this method, N-nitrosodiphenylamine (NDPhA), a thermally
unstable nitrosamine, was detected as a DBP from an authentic
drinking water sample. A survey of 38 North American drinking water
systems using the LC-MS/MS method found that NDMA was the most
commonly detected nitrosamine (28 of 38 systems) followed by NDPhA
(6 of 38 systems). A real-time cell electronic sensing (RT-CES)
technique was developed and demonstrated as a useful tool for DBP
toxicity testing. NDPhA was more cytotoxic than NDMA in four cell
lines. Further mechanistic analysis determined that NDPhA induces
cell cycle arrest, which is different than other nitrosamines such
as NDMA. Studies on nitrosamine formation showed the important role
of source water. Disinfectant type alone was not sufficient to
determine which nitrosamines are formed. Additional studies
determined that diphenylamine (DPhA) can form NDPhA, particularly
in the presence of monochloramine. This reaction also formed
phenazine and N-chlorophenazine. Further investigation determined
that phenazine containing natural products produced by bacteria are
also precursors for the phenazine containing DBPs. These results
suggest that the currently monitored nitrosamines are not
widespread enough to be solely responsible for the observed
increase in bladder cancer risk. However, there are several
locations where elevated nitrosamine concentrations are a concern.
Until the DBP cancer culprit is identified, reduction of overall
DBP formation through source water management and careful
monitoring of the disinfection process is the best practice to
manage cancer risks posed by DBPs.

For the synthesis of hydrolytically stable MUC1 anti-tumor-vaccines an efficient process was developed for the N methylation of Fmoc amino acids. Therefore, a two-step synthesis via oxazolidinones was chosen and performed in a tube-in-tube flow-through reactor with a semipermeable membrane of Teflon® AF 2400. In this tube-in-tube-reactor the model substrate Fmoc-alanine could be converted quantitatively into the corresponding oxazolidinone within 2 h. In the second step, for the first time a liquid-liquid application could be demonstrated with TFA passing through the Teflon® AF 2400 membrane providing numerous aliphatic, aromatic and functionalized N-methyl amino acids in high yields and with shortened reaction time.rnFurthermore, for the first time sensitive glycosyl amino acids including TN antigen…

Being an economic and a legal data, the capital contribution remains a prerequisite for the creation of the partnership agreement. In recent years, the obligation to bring such contribution has been reduced to a minimum. Does this mean it was removed from company law ? The French company law maintains ahistorical attachment to the physicality of the goods. As proof, the different kinds of contributions are ranked. According to this hierarchy, sweat equity contributor is not recognized in the share capital, and is even relegated to the rank of the smallest partner. Ignoring its economic contribution, this contribution may be considered as out of fashion. In other words, the rise of cloud economy implies reconsidering the position of sweat equity in the partnership agreement. Moreover, asserting that a company may operate without any input ignores the economic contribution of non-formal inputs, such as notoriety. This…

Austria participated in school year 2016/17 for the first time in the WHO Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative - a monitoring system for assessing overweight and obesity of elementary school children within the WHO European Region over time. This master thesis examines the Austrian elementary school children according to regional differences in body weight - especially with regard to overweight and obesity. Using stratified random sampling, 97 elementary schools were selected. 2514 elementary school students (1286 boys and 1228 girls) were subjected to anthropometric measurements (body weight, height, hip- and waist circumference) as defined by the WHO. In addition, school environmental indicators were requested. All data was collected strictly anonymously using the standardized COSI protocols. Data from 2496 8-10.9-year-old elementary school children were included to assess prevalence rates. Austria was divided into 3 regions: the east (Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland), South (Styria, Carinthia) and West (Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol, Vorarlberg). Descriptive statistics were used for the data description.…

To determine if they are part of the base salary, we must inquire if they relate to extrinsic circumstances to the provision of activity, for example with special aspects regarding the worker, the employer, the relationship between the parties, with the specific mode of implementation of the activity developed or with other particularities that qualify it.
If the answer to these questions is negative, and if they are intrinsically related to the activity provided, constituting counterpart for the mere normal activity provided by the worker, they are part of the base salary.
In that case, they represent part of the counterpart due by the availability of the worker during the agreed normal work period.
The base salary do not have to be necessarily i) in money or ii) present fixed compulsory character.

The roman armies of the republican era had reached a high degree of organization. With the coming of the Principate, the legions were sent on the frontiers of the empire, and their supplying had to be maintained during peacetime. This thesis tries to explain the logistical system of the roman armies under the Early Empire. To do so, the needs in food, materials and animals must be assessed. It is equally important to present the theories actually accepted, and to explain the basis on which they stand, in order to understand the biases which may have been introduced unconsciously. For the next part, the research focuses on two very different, yet complementary axes : firstly, the logistics in times of war, and secondly, the tax system. The question of the logistics in times of war, which includes the republican era, has been studied under three angles : individual supplying, supplying organized by the general, and the one organized from the capital. The understanding of these aspects is paramount to assess the importance each of those methods of supplying occupied in the bigger picture of the logistics. It will also allow to underline the circumstances surrounding some habits and the tendencies that emerge. The tax system, which is often studied too briefly by modern military historians, is however at the heart of the logistics in peacetime.…

▼ ENGLISH : The rationale for this study was to
gain a better understanding of what it means to be the mother of a
child with autism, through the use of narrative research accounts.
The mother (participant), and I (researcher) furthermore utilized
the sources of collected data, such as her life story, to identify
components of emotional intelligence with the purpose of additional
interpretation. A narrative research design, firmly rooted in an
interpretivist and constructivist paradigm, should therefore serve
to accurately interpret the significant emotions and other
lived-experiences that a mother attaches to living with a child
that has been diagnosed with autism. A multi-method approach,
directed by a qualitative research approach and a narrative
research design, was followed in an attempt to capture the mother‘s
experiences and life story. Data collection strategies employed to
generate an in-depth, rich and personal life story consisted of the
following activities: an informal interview, memory box (collages,
anecdotes, life line, and methaphors) and an intellectual
discussion regarding emotional intelligence. The mother also
participated in a collaborative discussion to identify emotional
intelligence components relevant to her life story. Further
collaboration and discussion with the mother were required to
ensure that the data were organised, analysed and interpreted
according to the mother‘s lived-experiences of autism, along with
her emotions that were identified on the basis of Bar-On‘s (2003)
emotional intelligence components. The meaningful findings drawn
from the mother‘s narratives (in relation to the identified
emotional intelligence components) suggest that the mother
demonstrates an optmistic, realistic and introspective view on
parenting. It can be regarded as accountable for me as researcher
to state that the mother displays an educated an comprehensive
understanding of the disability with which her child is living. The
mother perhaps best summarises her experiences of autism in the
words of Emily Pearl Kingsley‘s inspirational words: “Say goodbye
to the child you wanted, or else your focus will never be with the
child you have.”

▼ Im Rahmen des
Dissertationsvorhabens wurden idiopathische Bauchschmerzen (IBS) im
Kindesalter untersucht.
Kompetenzen, ungünstige Stress- und Schmerzbewältigung;
sozialkognitive Verarbeitungsdefizite; Somatisierungsten-denzen;
Treffen etwa 90 Minuten umfasst.

einhergeht.
