L'excentricité, comprise généralement au sens littéral (terme emprunté à l'astronomie et à la géométrie) qu'au sens symbolique (l'excentricité comme catégorie esthétique), représente une notion clé qui dynamise et définit l'acte de l'écriture de Gérard de Nerval, sa pensée et son âme, non seulement dans Les Illuminés, mais aussi dans son oeuvre entière. En gros, elle est constitutive de l'acte de la création littéraire de Nerval~ elle détermine et active la pensée de l'auteur, ses gestes et comportements, sa raison et folie, ses doutes, certitudes, credos, ainsi que ses aspirations.L'excentricité abordée en tant que métaphore est dans l'écriture de Nerval un catalyseur de thèmes, d'idées profondes et de mouvements, compte tenu que la métaphore n'est pas une simple figure rhétorique, mais le moteur de la génération et de la régénération du sens. De même, notre apport consiste dans le propos d'une nouvelle dimension de recherche sur l'excentricité, à savoir l'analyse de cette notion en tant qu'instrument d'étude. Le but n'est pas, bien entendu, de se proposer une approche exhaustive de l'excentricité, respectivement de l'excentrique, et cela parce que ces notions débordent le cadre linguistique. Au lieu de conceptualiser les termes, nous nous penchons plutôt sur le mécanisme de fonctionnement de ces notions, renvoyant simultanément à la notion de centre et à la sortie du centre.Les notions d'"excentricité", respectivement d'"excentrique" ne peuvent pas être conçues d'une façon absolue, comme des objets constitués une fois pour toutes, c'est pourquoi l'analyse de leurs sens ou significations demande d'ouvrir un champ plus vaste de recherche qui nepeut pas délaisser les contenus idéologique, historique, philosophique, religieux et littéraire du XIXe siècle, dans lesquels ces notions naissent et s'enrichissent.

The eccentricity generally understood both in the literal sense (a term borrowed from astronomy and geometry) and in the symbolic meaning (the eccentricity as aesthetic category), is a key concept that energizes and defines the Gerard de Nerval's act of writing, his mind and soul, not only in Les Illuminés, but also in his entire work. Basically, it is constitutive of the act of literary creation of Nerval, and it determinates and activates the author's mind, his actions and behaviors, reasons and madness, doubts and certainties, creeds and aspirations. The eccentricity as metaphor in Nerval 's writing catalyses themes, profound ideas and movements, given that the metaphor is not simply rhetorical, but the engine of the generation and meaning regeneration. Therefore, our contribution is the proposal of a new dimension of eccentricity research, namelv the analvsis of this concept as a tool for studv. The goal is not, of course, to nrovide a comprehensive approach to the eccentricity, respectively, the eccentric, and that because these notions overcomes the linguistic field. The project assignment of the studio is to design a non-hospitalized health care institution on one of the various given sites in Rotterdam. The studio believes that buildings for healthcare are amongst the most urgent design tasks for an architect. For patients, the interior of a care institution becomes a replacement of the whole outside world. Therefore, the focus of the studio is to give priority to the experience and quality of space, above the technical, organizational and financial issues The program of my choice is a cancer counselling centre for children combined with a Ronald McDonald house. The cancer counselling centre is a place where children can forget that they are sick but also can get support when they need it. It is (besides their home and the hospital) a third place in their daily lives. For the parents it is ideal to combine the counselling centre with a Ronald McDonald house. When their own home is too far from the hospital the Ronald McDonald house offers the solution. De Baan is located in the city centre and I’ve chosen this site because of the urban context and its easy accessibility. Besides that, the Erasmus Medical Centre is very close and the area contains several schools. Partly due to the location I choose to design the cancer counselling centre specially for children. The program of the building and the location fit well together although it also raises questions. Most of these questions are about the privacy of the patients and how the urban context can contribute to the wellbeing of the patients. The design is a well-functioning care centre that meets the desires of the different user groups. It provides the neighbourhood with commercial spaces and sport facilities, the patients of the Erasmus Medical Centre with a place for children with cancer to get support and it provides a home for their family members.

▼ The adrenal glands are vital endocrine organs responsible for the synthesis and secretion of multiple steroids and hormones. They are composed of an inner adrenal medulla and an outer adrenal cortex. The human adrenal cortex is further subdivided into three distinct zones that differ both morphologically and functionally: the Zona Glomerulosa (ZG), the Zona Fasciculata (ZF), and the Zona Reticularis (ZR). In rats, another zone has been identified between the ZG and the ZF, termed the undifferentiated zone (ZU). This zone has been shown to consist of adrenocortical progenitor cells, expressing Sonic Hedgehog and Delta like homologue 1 (Dlk1). The presence and function of the ZU in human adrenals is not known. In this project I studied the expression of stem/progenitor and steroidogenic markers in the human adrenal cortex and identified a novel cell population in the subcapsular region, which is hypothesised to be similar to the ZU in rats. This cell population expressed the atypical Notch ligand Delta-like homologue 1 (DLK1) but not steroidogenic markers (similar to the rat model), and we termed this as DLK1-cell clusters (DCCs). Following assessment of DLK1 expression across normal adrenals from foetuses to ageing adults, DCCs appear to be of layered continuous appearance in foetuses and in younger individuals and become clustered later in life. However, these were found to be different entities to aldosterone producing cell clusters (APCCs), which are precursors of aldosterone producing adenomas (APAs). Since DLK1 has shown involvement in carcinogenesis, I assessed whether it is involved in DLK1 in adrenocortical carcinomas (ACCs). DLK1 was significantly upregulated in all ACC samples analysed compared to normal adrenals. Further in vitro experiments using human adrenocortical cell line H295R, showed that DLK1-expressing cells possess cancer stem cell characteristics. Collectively, these results indicate that DLK1 could be a novel marker of cancer stem cells in adrenocortical carcinoma, which could potentially be used as a biomarker for identification and treatment.

▼ The E.U. mission is to provide pace and stability, safety and security, but also identity and diversity in a globalized world. My research has focused in the last point. In order to understand Europe we have to understand the complexity of the different scales in which Europe is involved. From the really Global scale to the European ones, that means to deal with all the different countries composing the European Union, but also with their regional and local features. Brussels as a Capital of Europe in a way reflect these European features because of its internal divisions: 2 languages, 19 communes, and different ethnic groups due to the highest immigration during the XXth century. The analysis started with a research on the Mundaneum of Paul Otlet, an utopia for a world city of communication in which all the fact of knowledge come together in a global centre and then redistribute this knowledge to all places in the world. According to Michel Serras this is the concept of pantopia, that is the dream of having all the place of the world in one place or each place in all places. The European district in Brussels could embody the pantopia of Europe because of its large amount of European institutional buildings. But nowadays the EU district is just an anonymous office district, comparable to the world trade centre on the north side of the pentagon. These large urban interventions have provoked urban fragmentation, both at the urban fabric level and at the social level. Nowadays urban interventions are characterized by spatial discontinuity. In this sense I compared Brussels to a large archipelago of different island in which each section is working in a mono-programmed way, and this is changing the meaning with the historic city centre. If in the old city the power of one building was directed related to the city boundary, and the public space in front of the building was related to the function of the building (ceremony, games, etc..), in the contemporary city the power of few buildings is related to a larger network of political institutions in Europe. And the public space between these buildings is not directed related to the function of the buildings. I want to conceive a new type of public building, which can refer to a larger network of cultural institutions. The building works as a catalyst of different dynamics. It works as a server of a large number of cultural institutions. The aim is to give to the Mundaneum the opportunity to initiate collaboration with and among European cities and citizens. In turn this work has the potential to establish the mundaneum as a initiator of the European ideas. Here the relation with the mundaneum of Paul Otlet that has been conceived to get and redistribute knowledge from and to different places through technology. The inventio in my concept is to conceive a podium for identity and diversity through arts, to provide positive confrontation between different cultures. Certains besoins de santé spécifiques ont contribué au développement du travail présenté ici, en particulier dans le domaine de la kinésithérapie dans lequel l’étude de l’équilibre postural est étudiée. Les solutions qui existent aujourd'hui sur le marché sont coûteuses, disponibles uniquement dans les grands hôpitaux ou dans des salles dédiées, avec un faible taux de fréquentation de la population, principalement dans des endroits plus éloignés des grands centres urbains. Ce travail a été développé en collaboration avec une équipe constituée de kinésithérapeutes, de chercheurs en génie électrique et en génie mécanique du laboratoire G-SCOP, Grenoble INP, Institut d’Ingénierie, Univ. Grenoble Alpes, France. Cette équipe cherche des solutions à faible coût qui répondent aux besoins de la société en général, en mettant l'accent sur la santé, mais également sur la vulgarisation scientifique, en diffusant ses travaux lors de manifestations de type fête de la Sciences dans la région et pour la communauté. Les travaux ont débuté avec une plateforme de force développée en 2016, conjointement par des chercheurs de l'UNESP (une Université de l'état Sao Paulo au Brésil) et du laboratoire G-SCOP. A cette solution a été ajoutée une nouvelle interface électronique, développée dans le but de fournir des informations sur le déplacement du centre de pression du patient. Un mécanisme a également été mis en place pour assurer la synchronisation entre les informations capturées par les capteurs installés sur la plate-forme et un capteur Microsoft Kinect. De nouveaux outils logiciels ont été proposés pour capturer et analyser les résultats. Le traitement des données permet de créer un modèle tridimensionnel détaillé contenant la cinématique de plusieurs articulations du corps humain et leur comportement respectif en fonction du temps. La mise en œuvre du capteur Kinect synchronisé avec la plate-forme de force permet de comparer le Centre de Pression avec le Centre de masse en vue de proposer un outil plus léger et moins cher à la communauté des praticiens hospitaliers.

Some specific health needs contributed to the development of the work presented here, especially in Physical Therapy in which the Postural Equilibrium is studied. The solutions that exist today in the market are of expensive, available only in large hospitals or in dedicated rooms, with low index of attendance to the population, mainly in places more distant of the great urban centers. A liderança é um tema muito importante a nível das organizações, pois é vital para o seu sucesso. Pode ser definida como um processo de influência social através do qual o líder procura obter a participação voluntária dos outros elementos do grupo no sentido de atingirem a causa comum. O enquadramento deste trabalho orientou-se para a definição das várias teorias da liderança e conceitos correlatos, no sentido de permitir contextualizar a liderança num ambiente organizacional particular: o call center, ambiente que já foi sociologicamente descrito como um caso notório de neo-taylorismo terciário. Com apoio na teoria situacionista, constatou-se que existe a expectativa teórica da relação entre tarefas simples, repetitivas e rotineiras (como as que caracterizam o call center) com uma adequação e sucesso particulares da liderança autocrática. O estudo empírico que empreendemos desenvolveu-se em torno dessa premissa, orientado para o teste da seguinte hipótese: Existe uma predominância do estilo de liderança autocrático por parte dos supervisores no call center. Para a testar recorreu-se ao inquérito por questionário aplicado a supervisores (auto-avaliação) e comunicadores (hetero-avaliação). Os resultados do estudo invalidaram a hipótese pois mostram que a maioria dos líderes analisados tem um estilo democrático e nenhum tem um estilo autocrático.

Leadership is a very important topic at the level of organizations because it is vital to its success. It can be defined as a process of social influence through which the leader seeks the voluntary participation of other group members in order to achieve the common cause. The framework of this dissertation was directed toward the definition of the various theories of leadership and related concepts, in order to allow a deep understanding of leadership in a particular organizational environment: the call centre, an environment that has been described sociologically as a notorious case of tertiary neo-taylorism. With support in the situationist theory, it was found that there is a theoretical expectation about the relationship between simple, repetitive and routine tasks (such as those that characterize the call centre) with a particular suitability and success of autocratic leadership. The empirical study we have undertaken has developed around this premise, aimed to test the following hypothesis: There is a predominance of autocratic style of leadership among supervisors in the call centre. For testing we used the survey questionnaire administered to supervisors (self assessment) and communicators (hetero-evaluation). The study results invalidate the hypothesis because they show that most leaders have a democratic style and none has an autocratic style.

Le but étant de comprendre la manière dont ces centres historiques sont perçus par les personnes, notamment par les habitants. Le travail vise aussi de comprendre la valeur que les personnes vont attribuer aux vieux bâtiments après sa réhabilitation, liée à la valorisation du patrimoine culturel, qui fonctionne comme axe de sustentation des politiques urbaines. A comparative study between the historic places of cities of Joao Pessoa, Brazil, and Tours, France was conducted. Our aim was to understand how these historic places are perceived by people, especially by the inhabitants. The study also aims to understand the value that the people will attribute to old buildings after his rehabilitation, related to the enhancement of cultural heritage, which functions as lifting axis of urban policies. An ethnographic analyses shows that both realities reveal not only differences but also similarities

É conspícuo, na cena contemporânea, que o patrimônio e a cultura vêm assumindo posições privilegiadas nas políticas urbanas, apresentando-se como instrumento de transformação do cariz das cidades. No entrecho dessa candente tendência ganha relevo a competitividade entre as urbes, que passam a granjear uma imagem que as tornem vendável, capazes de atrair investimentos e turistas. Nos holofotes desse tablado as cidades tornam-se notáveis protagonistas, dirigidas pelas políticas de reabilitação urbanas. Nesse enredo os centros históricos ganham visibilidade acentuada e são convertidos em palcos para a espetacularização e encenação da vida cotidiana. Imbricado a esse processo de produção de imagens recrudescem nesse cenário o fenômeno da gentrificação.

Malgré son intérêt heuristique, très peu d’études ont été menées à propos des représentationssociales de l’autisme. Et dans cette étude nous utilisons le concept de représentations socialespour analyser la façon dont les éducateurs qui exercent leurs métier dans les centrespsychopédagogiques et qui n’ont eu aucune formation sur l‘autisme, perçoivent les enfantsatteintes de l‘autisme et nous nous sommes interrogés également sur la manière dont cesprofessionnels reconnaissent ces enfants en matière des signes observés.La présente recherche s'investit dans la compréhension et l'explication des difficultésrencontrées dans la reconnaissance de l’autisme retrouvées par les éducateurs, selon lareprésentation sociale que ceux-ci ont de ce trouble.Notre premier objectif est l’autisme en tant qu’objet de représentation sociale et plus enparticulier pour repérer les critères de différenciation et d’indifférenciation de l’autisme dansleurs représentations sociales. Nous interrogerons l'élément fondamental de la représentation,le « noyau central » qui détermine à la fois la signification et l'organisation de lareprésentation et vérifier comment les éducateurs hiérarchisent les critères d’identification del’autisme ce qui va permettre de connaitre l’ordre subjectif de ces signes pour les éducateursau niveau des CPP. De plus, pour permettre de dévoiler à la fois les aspects cognitifs etsociaux de leurs savoirs « naïfs » sur l’autisme.Cette recherche peut également s'inscrire dans le cadre d'une recherche d'innovation dans lamesure où elle vise à apporter au système en place une nouveauté. En effet, elle s'avèreintéressante dans la mesure où, elle dévoile leurs systèmes de croyances, les stéréotypes, lesvaleurs produites et partagées par les individus d’un même groupe et leurs positionnementvis-à-vis les connaissances scientifiques afin de dégager des stratégies pour une sensibilisationmieux ciblée.Nos résultats montrent bien que les éducateurs partagent un savoir du sens commun surl‘autisme. Et nous avons trouvé que pour les éducateurs non-formés, un enfant autiste est unindividu qui vis dans son propre monde et qui a des troubles de communication. Il s’agit dedeux critères centraux pour la reconnaissance de l’autisme autrement dite ; le noyau central deleurs représentations se compose de ces deux éléments considérés comme non-négociables.Nous avons vérifié également l’effet de différents variables comme le sexe, le statutprofessionnels des éducateurs sur les représentations sociales de l‘autisme chez les éducateursnon-formés. Et dans une deuxième étape nous avons essayé d’analyser les pratiquesprofessionnelles des éducateurs formés et les éducateurs non-formés dans leurs travaux avecles enfants autistes au niveau des centres spécialisés de l’autisme ainsi que les centrespsychopédagogiques qui accueillent des enfants avec déficience intellectuelle.

Parallèlement à la géométrisation de l'espace urbain dégageant un centre géométrique, s'est développée une vision hiérarchique de l'occupation de l'espace. Le sommet de cette hiérarchie a longtemps coïncidé avec cette centralité géométrique, qui devient alors l'espace d'identification de la ville, autrement nommé le centre-ville. Or la situation des centres-villes a beaucoup évolué aujourd'hui. Bejaia, à l'instar d'autres villes du monde, n'échappe pas au phénomène de l'éclatement du centre traditionnel suivi de l'apparition de nouvelles centralités. Notre étude vise à rechercher, dans le cadre d'une pluridisciplinarité d'approche, les niveaux de ruptures et le degré de correspondance ou d'écart entre la politique planificatrice adoptée et le potentiel socio-économique et urbanistique de la ville de Bejaia concernant ses espaces centraux. Elle cherche en particulier à dégager les polarités touristiques liées au site, au patrimoine et à la société et les prédispositions touristiques qui en résultent, et à développer leur cohérence dans la perspective d'une ouverture vers l'environnement méditerranéen.

Along with the geometrization of urban space producing a geometric center, a hierarchical vision of space occupation has been developed. The top of this hierarchy has coincided for a long time with this geometrical centrality which becomes the essential element of city's identification, known by the term of downtown or city center. It is essential to note that downtowns have significantly evolved. Like other cities all over the world, the city of Bejaia doesn't escape this phenomenal disruption of these traditional centers, followed by emergence of new centralities. In the framework of a multidisciplinary approach, our study aims to discover different levels of breaks and degree of both conformance and difference between planning policy and socio-economic potentials of Bejaia, concerning its central spaces. Essentially, it searches to identify its touristic predispositions and develop their consistence and coherence in the light of opening up to the Mediterranean area.

Les études regroupées dans cette thèse montrent qu'il existe une hétérogénéité entre les centres de dialyse péritonéale dans la survenue des infections péritonéales et l’échec précoce de la méthode. Nous avons aussi montré que certaines organisations peuvent être modifiées dans l’objectif d’améliorer le devenir du patient en optimisant la ressource.Nos travaux soulignent le rôle des équipes infirmières et l’importance des visites infirmières à domicile dans la prévention des infections du liquide de dialyse péritonéale. La mise à disposition de moyens humains minimum pourrait constituer un des critères d’attribution des autorisations de traitement par dialyse donnés aux établissements de santé.Augmenter la taille des centres pourrait avoir un effet bénéfique sur la survie de la méthode en améliorant l’expérience des centres. Dans ce contexte, le regroupement d’activité entre plusieurs établissements pourrait avoir un effet positif sur la survie de la méthode.Nous avons aussi pu observer qu’il existait une disparité entre les centres dans l’utilisation de l’assistance à domicile par une infirmière pour la réalisation de la dialyse. L’attribution de l’assistance repose principalement sur l’évaluation de l’infirmière de dialyse péritonéale ce qui laisse entrevoir des possibilités de rationalisation dans son utilisation. L’utilisation et la validation d’outils permettant d’estimer la capacité d’autonomisation du patient est une recherche qui devra être conduite.

The studies grouped in this thesis show that there is a heterogeneity between the peritoneal dialysis centers in the occurrence of peritoneal infections and the early failure of the method. We have also shown that some organizations can be modified in order to improve the patient's future by optimizing the resource.Our work highlights the role of nursing teams and the importance of home nursing visits in the prevention of peritoneal dialysis fluid infections. The provision of minimum human resources could be one of the criteria for granting dialysis treatment authorizations given to health facilities.Increasing the size of the centers could have a beneficial effect on the survival of the method by improving the centers experience. In this context, group activities between several establishments could have a positive effect on the survival of the method.We also observed that there is a disparity between centers in the use of home assistance by a nurse for dialysis. The allocation of assistance is mainly based on the evaluation of the peritoneal dialysis nurse, which suggests possibilities of rationalization in its use.The use and validation of tools to estimate the patient's capacity to be treated by self-care peritoneal dialysis is a research that will need to be conducted.

Cette thèse propose d’interroger la relation entre la notion de centralité et les caractéristiques morphologiques de l’espace urbain d’un point de vue général et dans la perspective d’alternatives à la mobilité automobile en milieu urbain.Suivant une organisation chronologique, la première partie de ce travail envisage cette relation sous un angle théorique en confrontant des travaux relatifs aux notions de centre et de centralité d’une part, et aux formes urbaines d’autre part. Donnant lieu à des critères d’identification des centres, elle mène par ailleurs à considérer la centralité comme se rapportant à une réalité graduelle relative à tout l’espace urbain.S’appuyant sur ces critères et cette acception, la seconde partie consiste en l’analyse de différents espaces au sein des aires métropolitaines de Washington, Paris et Shanghai du point de vue de leurs caractéristiques morphologiques. Mettant notamment en évidence le rôle déterminant de la place accordée à la marche par l’agencement urbain, ces analyses permettent d’abord de proposer une classification des centres identifiés en fonction de la façon dont leur morphologie participe à conditionner les mises en relation, au sein de ces derniers et vis-à-vis de leur environnement. Mais elles conduisent par ailleurs à l’identification d’une expression réticulaire de la centralité, peu à même d’être caractérisée par la seule notion de centre, et apparaissant présenter des potentialités dans la perspective d’une mobilité intermodale.

This thesis focus on the relation between the notion of centrality and urban form, both from a general point of view and for alternatives to automotive mobility in urban areas.Following a chronological order, a first part questions this relation from a theoretical angle by comparing selected works on the notions of center and centrality on the one hand, and on urban forms on the other. Leading to criteria for identifying centers, it also leads to consider centrality as referring to a gradual reality relating to urban space as a whole.Using these criteria and this definition, a second part provides morphological analysis of different spaces within the metropolitan areas of Washington, Paris and Shanghai. Highlighting a determining role of walking, these analysis allow a classification of identified centers according to how their morphological characteristics contribute to condition relations between urban amenities, both inside these places and in relation to their environment. But they also lead to the identification of a reticular expression of centrality, which is not inclined to be characterized by the only notion of center, and appears to be a potentially effective for alternatives to automotive mobility.

▼ The use of electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy to date Pleistocene sediments is tested using light-sensitive centres in quartz: the Al hole trapping centre and the Ti-Li and Ti-H electron trapping centres. These centres have high saturation doses with the potential to date sediments throughout the Quaternary period.Samples from aeolianites of the Bridgewater Formation from the Coorong-Gambier coastal plain in southeastern South Australia were chosen for the test. These barriers have previously been investigated in detail and sufficient age control for the validation of ESR ages are available, with the oldest structure being beyond the Brunhes-Matuyama magnetic reversal at about 780 ka. The Al, Ti-H and Ti-Li centres were studied in 28 samples from twelve aeolianite units and tested in regard to gamma irradiation, bleaching, partial bleaching and isochronal heating. Equivalent doses using the multiple aliquot additive and regenerative methods were compared for selected samples. Regeneration measurements were carried out following bleaching and thermal annealing. Sensitivity changes were monitored using dose-recovery tests and spectral analysis. The applied doses in the dose-recovery tests could be recovered from the Al and Ti-H centres. Changes in the line width and amplitude for the Ti-Li and Ti-H centre occurred, whereas the ESR signal of the Al centre did not show any changes. On exposure to natural sunlight, the Ti-Li centre bleached slower than the Al centre, with the T-H centre bleaching the fastest. Equivalent doses for samples, using the Ti-Li centre, gave systematic overestimates compared to the doses obtained from the Al and Ti-H centres, which were the same for most samples.After consideration of the methodological results, the Al centre was chosen for age calculations. The majority of the resulting ESR ages calculated for the samples are in good agreement with the age-control data. The ESR signals for the older, Middle and Early Pleistocene samples were not yet saturated. These results are very promising and show the potential of ESR spectroscopy to date sediments throughout the Quaternary period. ▼ What is the shopping centre, and how can the works of Gilles Deleuze, help us to understand it ethnographically? In light of a growing interest in Deleuze’s work across both the humanities and social sciences (see Jensen and Rodje, 2010) as well as the long-standing calls to “take Deleuze into the field” (Bonta, 2005) and develop what research methodologies might emerge in conjunction which his philosophy (see Coleman and Ringrose, 2013), this thesis explores the possibilities of an ethnography which tries to take seriously the questions surrounding an ethical practice of working with philosophy in the field, grappling not only with Deleuze’s concepts during and as part of fieldwork but attempting to meaningfully engage with the incongruities between the philosophical assumptions which underpin ethnographic practice and Deleuze’s metaphysic (often labelled a “transcendental empiricism”); the most salient of these being “the subject”. In unfolding the stories of the shopping centre, a behemoth of social machination which is both reflective and productive of the contemporary sociocultural milieu, this thesis will explore the various forms of “madness” which populate the field, threading connective lines between the highly plural groups of interlocutors, widely separated spaces and the varying rhythms and temporalities which can be said to correspond to the shopping centre. Focusing on central issues of bodies (space) and time as they are encountered in the shopping centre , this thesis shall take, as one of its major points of inquiry, the questions surrounding the writing of ethnography and the ways in which this represents and reaffirms the metaphysic which is taken-for-granted as a part of the ethnographic encounter; at times delving into what might be called the ‘pataphysical or the absurd, playing with thick and thin description and taking various flights of madness in order to find ways of pushing against what Deleuze calls, the ossified and dogmatic images of thought at the core of Western philosophy. ▼ Adult education contributes to poverty mitigation and enables members of the community to acquire knowledge and skills for development within their local communities. The White Paper for Post-Schooling Education and Training in South Africa has moved towards a new vision of adult learning sites as community colleges. This shift is intended to enable youth and adults to access formal education within their local communities. This case study explores centre-community relations at Endleleni Adult Education and Training (AET) centre in Madadeni, KwaZulu-Natal. Given the context and vision of community colleges as adult learning sites, this study examines the relations that exist between the Endleleni AET centre and the community that it serves. The study examines the links to other institutions in the community and how the relations impact on the effective functioning of the centre. It also examines how adult education impacts on the lives of the learners in terms of livelihood, civic participation and family life. Literature reviewed for this study focused on: the adult education system in South Africa, policy and basic education in South Africa, the concept of community and AET centres in the community, adult education and livelihoods and private adult education. A case study design within a qualitative approach to data collection necessary for this research study was employed. Focus group interviews, semi-structured individual interviews and participant observation were used as key methods for data collection. Data was examined using both systems theory and social capital theory because of their interrelatedness. The findings for this study show that there are relations at Endleleni AET centre between the learners, teachers and the community based on mutual trust. Good relations with the host school is a great resource to the centre in a number of ways, including the provision of a venue to the AET centre. There are links with the ‘war rooms’ and church for recruitment of learners. The other links are extra murals and gardening, suggesting a holistic care approach that the centre offers to the community. Pousser un caddie dans les allées d'un supermarché. Peser soi-même ses fruits et légumes. Avoir le choix entre plusieurs marques pour un même article. Ce sont des gestes que nous effectuons quotidiennement, presque par automatisme. Toutefois cela n'a pas toujours été le cas et il est curieux de constater à quelle vitesse le mode de vie des français a changé. Cette recherche a pour objet d'étudier le lien qui s'est noué entre le droit et la grande distribution. Le cœur de ce travail se situe au niveau du processus de création du centre commercial. Ce centre névralgique de notre société consumériste est l'objet de nombreux débats tant juridiques, que politiques ou économiques. Cette recherche permet de faire le constat de l'état de la législation aujourd'hui concernant la grande distribution. Au-delà de l'intérêt que ce travail représente pour toute personne intéressée par les rouages du fonctionnement d'un centre commercial, cette étude permet également d'analyser de façon subsidiaire les multiples changements de volontés politiques vis-à-vis de ce géant économique que représentent les acteurs de l'ombre de la grande distribution. Tantôt aidée par le législateur, tantôt freinée, l'exorbitante multiplication des centres commerciaux demeure une réalité qui fit et fera toujours couler beaucoup d'encre; derrière ce fait, se cachent des enjeux non négligeables tels que la désertification des centres villes, la disparition des producteurs locaux, la mondialisation ou bien encore la question du pouvoir d'achat des français.

This work is aimed at studying the connection which has grown between law and department stores.The core of the present work lays in the process of creation of a shopping center. This critical center of our consumerist society is a subject for various discussions, either juridical or political as well as economical.This research work enables an appreciation of the present condition of the law applied today to department stores.Beyond the interest of this work for anyone liking to know more about the opérations of a shopping center, this study enables also to analyse subsidiarily the many changes affecting the political decisions, vis a vis an economical giant, built by the shadowy actors of the department stores.In some cases being helped by law makers, in other cases being slowed down the exorbitant growth of the number of shopping center is a fact which led to a lot of writings.Behind this fact are hidden various important stakes such as desertification of town centers, extinction of local producers, world wide operations, or the level of the buying power of french people.
