1. 김, 월주. Development and Effect of Nursing Ethics Education Program Based on Academic Debates for Undergraduate Nursing Students.

Degree: 2018, Ajou University

This nursing ethics education program has its conceptual framework on constructivism and its learning module was developed based on the ADDIE model. Learners’ needs of 36 senior year nursing students were analyzed. According to the analysis, the students had great needs on ethical education using cases of dilemma and the nursing ethical issues they faced in the clinical practice were listed in the order of ‘nurses and patients’, ‘nurses and practices’ and ‘nurses and colleagues.’ In the design stage, learning objectives and contents were formed, learning methods were designed and learning media were selected. The learning contents included ‘concept of nursing ethics and bioethics’, ‘ethical thinking and code of ethics’ and ‘application of nursing ethics in the field.’ The learning methods were designed with a combination of lecture-based education and academic debates. Besides, a variety of learning media were selected such as PowerPoint, video clip, cases of dilemma, issue analysis, debate outline and debate report for the lectures and debates. Actual dilemma cases were developed by reflecting the result of analyzing ethical case reports written by the students, role plays on nursing ethics and books on nursing ethics and the learners’ needs in the development stage. Ten dilemma cases were developed and their content validity was verified by five experts, with the CVI at 0.9. The participants were divided into three groups of 12 for academic debates. The module developed by the study engaged six debaters, three from each team, to discuss one dilemma case for 40 minutes of 16 rounds in total. The academic debates had a strict format involving the affirmative side and negative side in constructive speech, cross examination, rebuttal, deliberation and conclusion. Lectures on the principle and rule of ethics, code of ethics for nurses and ethical decision making process were presented from the first to third sessions in the implementation stage. The nursing ethics education program based on academic debates was applied to the fourth to eighth sessions. The effect of this program was measured by the instruments for moral sensitivity, moral judgment and ethical decision making. The study engaged 64 senior year nursing students of two provinces in Korea to verify the effect of the nursing ethics education program based on academic debates from May to July 2017. The experimental group was provided with the education program consisting of eight sessions for 16 hours, each for two hours while the control group was given a lecture-based ethics education for 16 hours. The same questionnaire was used for the two groups before and after the ethics education to verify its effect. The result showed that the experimental group that participated in the program recorded a significantly higher ideal moral judgment score (F=5.96, p=.018) and realistic moral judgment score (F=6.00, p=.017) than the control group that did not. However, moral sensitivity score (F=0.02, p=.884) as well as P score (F=2.94, p=.091) and 4 stage score (F=0.05,… Advisors/Committee Members: 대학원 간호학과, 201325244, 김, 월주.
