▼ The object of this study was motivated by the need to know the possible
causes of differences in results achieved in the implementation of a Computerised
Management System (CMS) in a Federal University Hospital, located in northeastern
Brazil, to understand the factors that influenced the results in different groups when
was used the same systems implementation methodologies. Considering the
implication of managers, health professionals, other professionals involved and the
existing organizational structure in the period when implantation occurred, aimed to
know the perception of these people about the development of CMS in the
deployment process in your group or sector and also in the organization.The
methodology used in this study was the content analysis which provides a rich set of
methodological tools for evaluating speeches,enabling us to discourse from the
unknown analysis and subjectivity, but with scientific rigor, allowing, at the end, to
understand the disparity in results in the implementation of CMS.It was used as a
research tool, a semi-structured interview, which exploits a qualitative approach, as
suggested by the authors. It was used the approach of the episodic interview, to be
more narrative about the experiences of the interview participants in their practical
experience along the CMS deployment process in the hospital.Were interviewed
three groups of professional and a group of managers, all with higher education in
their professions and who participated in the entire implementation process from the
beginning.It followed the Bardin's methodology (2009) in all the phases of treatment
and interpretation of data, where emerged three categories: the "Thought and
Knowledge"; the "Practices and Changes"; the "Obtained Results". From the
category "Thought and Knowledge"emerged three subcategories: the
"Administrative", the "Institutional" and the "IT Knowledge". From the category
"Practices and Changes" emerged three subcategories: "Reality Prior to CMS"; "The
IT Project and the implementation of CMS" and "Impacts of the CMS
Implementation". From the category "Results Obtained" emerged three
subcategories: "Benefits Promoted by CMS", "Dissatisfaction Observed" and "Level
of Use and Understanding CMS ". It was observed that the lack of integration of the
sectors was a determinant problem in the implementation of CMS. The CMS
implementation project was not well dimensioned and divulged in the institution.
Different models of leaderships and of objectives of the sectors influenced in the
course of the CMS implementation process. We can mention that an CMS should be
a consolidation of organizational practices tool already institutionalized and of
integration amongthe sectors and not supporting to isolated practices and
personalistsfrom sectors of the institution.

▼ The goal of this research was to investigate the predictive role of emotional labor in the incidence of police officers’ burnout in
Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The officer class was chosen to be subject of the risk of physical problems, exhaustion and psychological distress as well as smoking, alcohol abuse, suicidal ideation and, notably, burnout. In addition, the Military Police of RN is currently facing a context of difficulties and poor working conditions, demanding greater attention to the work dynamics of its professionals. All these stressors (social, physical, organizational and contextual) result in significant emotional requirements for police officers, demanding that they manage the display of their emotions during these interactions to maintain proper behavior to both the situation and the police institution. This management of emotional expression to conform to the demands of the job is reported in the literature as "emotional labor". The emotional labor emerges as a form of mediation between professionals and their working environment and can boost or attenuate the negative results of the work on the worker's health, depending on different emotional control strategies and specific features of labor activity. Only a few studies in Organizational Psychology and Labour has address ed this relationship. The sample consisted of 525 police officers from the state of
Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The Emotional Labor Scale, the Emotional Work Requirements Scale and the emotional exhaustion’s subscale of the Maslach Burnout Inventory for Human Service Survey were used. They were previously adapted from English to Brazilian Portuguese. The first two scales were submitted to a cross-validation procedure. A multiple linear regression was performed with the factors derived from all the scales and with some sociodemographic variables. The results indicate that the emotional labor factors: variety and intensity of emotions, frequency of interaction with suspects and criminals, deep and surface acting, and the perceived need to express positive emotions as part of the police work were predictors of emotional exhaustion and burnout’s incidence. The sociodemographic variables: completed high school, be a Cabo, and acting on external service had also a predictive power over burnout. This study elucidates the handling characteristics of emotions in response to organizational needs of the job in the PM and the impact of this on a prevalent illness in this population, and contributes not only to the literature on the subject, scarce
in Brazil, but also with information that can foster the creation of more effective and attentive health policies to the often neglected emotional aspects of police agents’labor.

▼ This research aimed to investigate the development of entrepreneurial competencies of college students who participate of junior enterprises in Brazil. These companies present themselves as college students’ initiatives for practical application of theoretical knowledge of the graduation by providing services in the acting area allowing learning and skills development. This scenario brings us to the following question: beyond the professional development, the junior enterprises allow a relative development to entrepreneurship? In order to tailor the questionnaire on the format and understanding among the respondents a face pretest was conducted with 20 junior entrepreneurs and egresses of the movement. Then 796 junior entrepreneurs of the five Brazilian regions were investigated, they responded to an online survey containing a four dimensions questionnaire: demographic and contextual data of the junior entrepreneur, junior enterprise data, learning support and entrepreneurial competencies. Factorial analysis to validate the instruments and correlational analysis to identify relationships between the main constructs were conducted. It was found that the junior enterprises play an important supportive role for the development of entrepreneurial competencies and that these competencies, in turn, are developed primarily from the daily practical implementation of activities in the junior enterprise. With the results of this study it is expected to contribute at four levels: the forming agents, the junior enterprise movement it self, the students and literature on junior enterprises and the entrepreneurial competencies.

▼ The objective of this study was to understand the relationship between people with disabilities and their labor. Senses and meanings related to work were specifically identified; also describing the impediments of concrete activities, as well the strategies developed for overcoming them. This objective is inspired on the social historic cultural theoretical perspective as well as on the activity's theory. The research has been made possible through the interview of 16 workers from a IES, it categorizes as a multi-method sequential and transversal study of qualitative orientation, making use the technics of narrative interviews and photographic creation. The results indicate that work was described as a necessity, a source of pleasure, recognition and socialization; with emphasis on the importance of working in pairs in order to accomplish good quality work. Senses were obtained from each participant, identified by the way that each of them expressed themselves. Impediments were more deeply related to the physical conditions of the work environment than to the person's disabilities. Conclusion points out that the access to work, acts as a social inclusion tool for peoples with disabilities, and showing that, the laws regarding quota reservations fulfill their objective.

▼ This study investigated the intention of the older workers to continue working after state
pension age/time. On this way, it explores the relation between this intention and factors
related with the meanings of the work and retirement. Specifically, it was examined that
factors related to work and non-work are predictors of the intention to continue working,
and it was explored if meanings of retirement are linked to this decision. It is a crosssectional
mixed methods study, using a survey conducted with 283 federal civil servants
of a federal Northeastern University which were near retirement. It envolved an on-line
questionnaire, with open-ended questions and the likert-type scale "Older Worker's
Intention to Continue Working" (OWICW) of Shacklock and Brunneto (2011), which
was validated to the Brazilian version. The quantitative data were analyzed using
descriptive and multivariate statistics, specifically procedures for comparing means and
coefficients of multiple logistic regression. The qualitative data were analyzed using the
lexicographical technique Descending Hierarchical Classification. The findings indicate
that most participants want to continue in paid work, and that perception of personal
autonomy at work, interpersonal relationships at work, interests outside of work, and
flexible working arrangements are significant predictors of intention to continue working.
Furthermore, the perception of personal autonomy at work, flexible working
arrangements, and the financial incentives are predictors of decision to postpone
retirement and remain in the organization. The analysis revealed five patterns of meanings
of retirement: "worker's right", "resting", "idle time at home", "new stage in the life
course", and "enjoy the use of time”. The decision to postpone retirement is linked to
idleness and lack of substitutionary activities work, and the decision to stop working
linked to retirement as a life with more quality. The study provides information that can
contribute with management policies before the process of retirement decision.

▼ After production restructuring, the heterogeneity of labour has increased and, consequently, the rates of informal labour (salaried without formal registration and self-employed). The allocation of workers in that context is mediated by ideology, which corresponds to the ideas that act upon the individuals’ social praxis towards conflict resolution, which in turn reach individual consciences through the meanings. This research aims to analyse the characteristics of ideology within informal labour context through the meanings attributed by self-employed workers. Twelve (12) semistructured interviews were performed with market workers from the street small Businesses Shopping Mall from Alecrim (locally known as “camelódromo”), a neighbourhood in Natal, Brazil, and the number of participants was determined by theoretical saturation. The meanings of labour have been analysed based on the biographical contexts of the participants, their relationship with social context and the ideological function they perform. It was identified that the participants who worked during childhood, motivated by their families’ subsistence, had been through more than four different professional experiences, including a previous experience as informal market workers and precarious formal labour. They establish contradicting relations of competition and cooperation towards other market workers and
do not plan to interrupt their current work in the foreseeable future. They attribute meanings to work as a source of income as well as a form of time occupation, the salaried work as a place of humiliation and the self-employment as a way to satisfy their own demands. These meanings all agree with the conditions to which those individuals have been subjected and with how work is conceived within capitalism (labour as a monetary source and the center of social relations). They perform three ideological functions: fixing the workers under the mentioned work conditions, preventing the development of class conscience and the critics to wage labour. It is necessary that the organisms of workers’ representation become aware of the potentialities self-employed workers can create by taking part in the broader struggles of the working class.

▼ This study investigated the intention of the older workers to continue working after state
pension age/time. On this way, it explores the relation between this intention and factors
related with the meanings of the work and retirement. Specifically, it was examined that
factors related to work and non-work are predictors of the intention to continue working,
and it was explored if meanings of retirement are linked to this decision. It is a crosssectional
mixed methods study, using a survey conducted with 283 federal civil servants
of a federal Northeastern University which were near retirement. It envolved an on-line
questionnaire, with open-ended questions and the likert-type scale "Older Worker's
Intention to Continue Working" (OWICW) of Shacklock and Brunneto (2011), which
was validated to the Brazilian version. The quantitative data were analyzed using
descriptive and multivariate statistics, specifically procedures for comparing means and
coefficients of multiple logistic regression. The qualitative data were analyzed using the
lexicographical technique Descending Hierarchical Classification. The findings indicate
that most participants want to continue in paid work, and that perception of personal
autonomy at work, interpersonal relationships at work, interests outside of work, and
flexible working arrangements are significant predictors of intention to continue working.
Furthermore, the perception of personal autonomy at work, flexible working
arrangements, and the financial incentives are predictors of decision to postpone
retirement and remain in the organization. The analysis revealed five patterns of meanings
of retirement: "worker's right", "resting", "idle time at home", "new stage in the life
course", and "enjoy the use of time”. The decision to postpone retirement is linked to
idleness and lack of substitutionary activities work, and the decision to stop working
linked to retirement as a life with more quality. The study provides information that can
contribute with management policies before the process of retirement decision.

▼ The goal of this research was to investigate the predictive role of emotional labor in the incidence of police officers’ burnout in
Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The officer class was chosen to be subject of the risk of physical problems, exhaustion and psychological distress as well as smoking, alcohol abuse, suicidal ideation and, notably, burnout. In addition, the Military Police of RN is currently facing a context of difficulties and poor working conditions, demanding greater attention to the work dynamics of its professionals. All these stressors (social, physical, organizational and contextual) result in significant emotional requirements for police officers, demanding that they manage the display of their emotions during these interactions to maintain proper behavior to both the situation and the police institution. This management of emotional expression to conform to the demands of the job is reported in the literature as "emotional labor". The emotional labor emerges as a form of mediation between professionals and their working environment and can boost or attenuate the negative results of the work on the worker's health, depending on different emotional control strategies and specific features of labor activity. Only a few studies in Organizational Psychology and Labour has address ed this relationship. The sample consisted of 525 police officers from the state of
Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The Emotional Labor Scale, the Emotional Work Requirements Scale and the emotional exhaustion’s subscale of the Maslach Burnout Inventory for Human Service Survey were used. They were previously adapted from English to Brazilian Portuguese. The first two scales were submitted to a cross-validation procedure. A multiple linear regression was performed with the factors derived from all the scales and with some sociodemographic variables. The results indicate that the emotional labor factors: variety and intensity of emotions, frequency of interaction with suspects and criminals, deep and surface acting, and the perceived need to express positive emotions as part of the police work were predictors of emotional exhaustion and burnout’s incidence. The sociodemographic variables: completed high school, be a Cabo, and acting on external service had also a predictive power over burnout. This study elucidates the handling characteristics of emotions in response to organizational needs of the job in the PM and the impact of this on a prevalent illness in this population, and contributes not only to the literature on the subject, scarce
in Brazil, but also with information that can foster the creation of more effective and attentive health policies to the often neglected emotional aspects of police agents’labor.

▼ This research aimed to investigate the development of entrepreneurial competencies of college students who participate of junior enterprises in Brazil. These companies present themselves as college students’ initiatives for practical application of theoretical knowledge of the graduation by providing services in the acting area allowing learning and skills development. This scenario brings us to the following question: beyond the professional development, the junior enterprises allow a relative development to entrepreneurship? In order to tailor the questionnaire on the format and understanding among the respondents a face pretest was conducted with 20 junior entrepreneurs and egresses of the movement. Then 796 junior entrepreneurs of the five Brazilian regions were investigated, they responded to an online survey containing a four dimensions questionnaire: demographic and contextual data of the junior entrepreneur, junior enterprise data, learning support and entrepreneurial competencies. Factorial analysis to validate the instruments and correlational analysis to identify relationships between the main constructs were conducted. It was found that the junior enterprises play an important supportive role for the development of entrepreneurial competencies and that these competencies, in turn, are developed primarily from the daily practical implementation of activities in the junior enterprise. With the results of this study it is expected to contribute at four levels: the forming agents, the junior enterprise movement it self, the students and literature on junior enterprises and the entrepreneurial competencies.

▼ The objective of this study was to understand the relationship between people with disabilities and their labor. Senses and meanings related to work were specifically identified; also describing the impediments of concrete activities, as well the strategies developed for overcoming them. This objective is inspired on the social historic cultural theoretical perspective as well as on the activity's theory. The research has been made possible through the interview of 16 workers from a IES, it categorizes as a multi-method sequential and transversal study of qualitative orientation, making use the technics of narrative interviews and photographic creation. The results indicate that work was described as a necessity, a source of pleasure, recognition and socialization; with emphasis on the importance of working in pairs in order to accomplish good quality work. Senses were obtained from each participant, identified by the way that each of them expressed themselves. Impediments were more deeply related to the physical conditions of the work environment than to the person's disabilities. Conclusion points out that the access to work, acts as a social inclusion tool for peoples with disabilities, and showing that, the laws regarding quota reservations fulfill their objective.

▼ This study aims to investigate strategies of work-family conciliation adopted by university professors in a capital city of Northeast Brazil, associating it with the centrality attributed to the work by these participants. Sample was formed by 168 professors located in the city of XXXX, in the XX. Information was collected through the online application of a standardized instrument on conciliation strategies, adapted semantically to the Brazilian reality, together with a centrality scale of work. Data were analyzed using multivariate techniques and association between means. Results have indicated that the five conciliation strategies foreseen in the original model from which the scale was derived remain empirically with these participants, namely: a positive perspective on the dual income situation; mutual emotional support; professional adjustments; management and planning skills; and institutional support. The emotional support factor has stood out as the most important, taking into account the analysis of means. Centrality of work was not related to most factors, except with the emotional support factor. This paper suggests that this finding makes theoretical sense, insofar as conciliation strategies imply precisely the interconnection between family and work spheres.

▼ Understood as the locus of precariousness, female labor has established itself as an
allegory for the study of forms of exploitation in the labor market, since it embodies the
attributes of activity without public regulations and the protection of rights, essentially
domestic and poorly paid. In this sense, the Direct Selling (VD) as an occupational
arrangement aimed at the female insertion incorporates these characteristics, especially
in the scenario after productive restructuring. Therefore, this research aims to
understand how the workers of this specific activity develop the senses and meanings of
their work. This study is based on the theoretical-methodological framework of the
Theory of Activity, advocated by Engestrom on Vygotsky's Historical-Cultural
Psychology, and the process of meaning making, were used to understand that the
senses, meanings and activity are integrated constructs that organize psychological
development. This research was exploratory and comprehensive, with a mixed design
and aimed to understand how meaning are processed through the mediations that cross
the VD activity in its real and concrete terms in two concomitant phases. This research
included 270 female workers in their first phase and 6 in their second phase. In these, a
socio-professional questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were applied. The
results indicate the interrelation between the components of the activity and the
construction of the meaning, especially at the levels of the subject and object of the
activity.

▼ This study represents the results of a research-intervention realized in a Center of Reference in Worker Health, located in the city of Natal-RN, with workers users of the service. The aim was to analyze how the collective work appears as health workers in professional device sickening situation. The work clinics appropriate of the work collective category as fundamental operator in the health-work-development relationship, which traditionally have studied and advocated the work collective as a key device for understanding, maintaining and affirming the crafts health. After a brief presentation of the how as each one of these clinics defines collective, we offered a provisory synthesis that emerges from observation of general points of convergence between them regarding to the collective meaning. The activities were conducted in the fases: approach of the field with the group activity in the waiting room of the service and semi-structured interviews and clinical interviews. It was possible to identify three devices in the first fase: the provisional collective; the relation of the subject with his activity and the harassment to the job. The model was illustrated trough real clinical cases what allow us to highlight that the way of collective operation can make it maintainer or not of the survivor and develop a health craft. Finally, it alerts to the individuals need to be as organizers of their own work so the collective work Cn give its signs of expressiveness, putting in action itself (work collective) and craft in the process of health production. It is alerted to the need of care with the job with equal level of importance of the care offered to the worker, in a repairing perspective of the well-being by the collective about the criteria and the tensions of the work activity.

▼ The idea that the career consists in a linear path throughout the individual s professional life structured by the company where he or she works has been changing to a new reality in which the career is seen as a journey, open to possibilities and uncertainties. Several models have come up as an attempt to comprehend and analyze this journey. Among them, there is the model of career narrative, which assumes that, while narrating, individuals give meaning to their own path, and at the same time they consider personal factors and the environment that act on their professional biography. This paper aimed to explore and articulate issues related to the environment and career paths of the human resource professionals working in the Greater Natal. For this purpose, the model of career narrative was used. From the methodological viewpoint, the project was divided in two stages. The first was characterized by conducting a survey with the intention of mapping professionals socio-occupational characteristics, through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistical techniques and cluster analysis. The descriptive statistical analyses included 117 participants. The results indicated that HR professionals of Greater Natal have different functions, develop activities focused on different subsystems, have an increasing career path, and focus their professional formation in Business Administration and Psychology. The second stage of the study was characterized by the use of 17 narrative interviews, whose participants, in the process of nonprobabilistic sampling, were identified based on their belonging to the three clusters: Group 1, HR and public administration; Group 2, HR experts; and Group 3, HR beginners. Analyzing the results of the qualitative phase, it was found that the identification with the activity practiced is a deciding factor for choosing and remaining in the HR field. The lack of professional recognition appears as the main difficulty faced by professionals, as well as the lack of employment opportunity in the Greater Natal. The results analysis leads to a series of discussions on the career path in HR and reflections for this professional category, its representative bodies and educational institutions

▼ Young people are one of the groups most affected by the labor market transformations, as they are more susceptible to unemployment situations. In parallel with youth unemployment, another phenomenon has increased in recent years: NEET young people. They are not in education, employment, or training. These characteristics are a cause for concern among government organizations, and have raised questions about the importance and meaning of work for young NEETs. In order to understand the factors associated with this condition, and the reasons these young people stay in this condition, the objective of this research is to investigate the relationship between the meaning of work and the job search behaviors for young NEETs. Specifically, this research intends to identify the centrality of work for this group; identify what personal and social characteristics are related to the meaning of work and to job search behaviors; and investigate the reasons that young people remain in such conditions, and their future prospects. This is a quantitative study with mixed methods incorporated. In total, 224 people participated, with ages between 18 and 24 years. They answered a personal and social questionnaire, an ESAT-BR, items about the centrality of work and job search intensity, and two open questions. The results demonstrated a relationship between the meaning of work and the job search behaviors. At the same time, the association between the personal and social variables and the constructs investigated demonstrate that other factors are related to this phenomenon, which confirm its complexity.

▼ Capitalist societies are marked by change, gradual and progressive, in ways that bind to the economy, politics, culture, among others, directly impacting the ways of designing and producing the work action. Understanding that this is a central element in structuring the lives of individuals, as well as the dynamic organization of societies, it is important to understand how the work, wrapped in capitalist everyday organizations, is meaning and undertaken in the midst of this logic. This research is then proposed to investigate the work processes of meaning, choosing as occupational category artisanal workers, believing they would bring very important contributions due to the peculiar characteristics of the activity that develop among them, the fact of being a previous activity to capitalism itself (often considered the first action human labor capacity, the work itself prototype). They interviewed 20 craftsman in the Greater Natal region / RN, individually, in several areas of that territory. The results indicate that the referenced public means work from three major specific dimensions, linked to the traditionalism of the processes, the structuring of activity and relations necessary for its development, highlighting tensions in the articulation of an activity, which has in its origin, freedom and autonomy as strong development centers, and established within the capitalist dynamics, gives up such ideals in order to function as another form of survival and maintenance workers, submitted to the precariousness of their actions labor.

▼ The object of this study was motivated by the need to know the possible
causes of differences in results achieved in the implementation of a Computerised
Management System (CMS) in a Federal University Hospital, located in northeastern
Brazil, to understand the factors that influenced the results in different groups when
was used the same systems implementation methodologies. Considering the
implication of managers, health professionals, other professionals involved and the
existing organizational structure in the period when implantation occurred, aimed to
know the perception of these people about the development of CMS in the
deployment process in your group or sector and also in the organization.The
methodology used in this study was the content analysis which provides a rich set of
methodological tools for evaluating speeches,enabling us to discourse from the
unknown analysis and subjectivity, but with scientific rigor, allowing, at the end, to
understand the disparity in results in the implementation of CMS.It was used as a
research tool, a semi-structured interview, which exploits a qualitative approach, as
suggested by the authors. It was used the approach of the episodic interview, to be
more narrative about the experiences of the interview participants in their practical
experience along the CMS deployment process in the hospital.Were interviewed
three groups of professional and a group of managers, all with higher education in
their professions and who participated in the entire implementation process from the
beginning.It followed the Bardin's methodology (2009) in all the phases of treatment
and interpretation of data, where emerged three categories: the "Thought and
Knowledge"; the "Practices and Changes"; the "Obtained Results". From the
category "Thought and Knowledge"emerged three subcategories: the
"Administrative", the "Institutional" and the "IT Knowledge". From the category
"Practices and Changes" emerged three subcategories: "Reality Prior to CMS"; "The
IT Project and the implementation of CMS" and "Impacts of the CMS
Implementation". From the category "Results Obtained" emerged three
subcategories: "Benefits Promoted by CMS", "Dissatisfaction Observed" and "Level
of Use and Understanding CMS ". It was observed that the lack of integration of the
sectors was a determinant problem in the implementation of CMS. The CMS
implementation project was not well dimensioned and divulged in the institution.
Different models of leaderships and of objectives of the sectors influenced in the
course of the CMS implementation process. We can mention that an CMS should be
a consolidation of organizational practices tool already institutionalized and of
integration amongthe sectors and not supporting to isolated practices and
personalistsfrom sectors of the institution.

Several models have come up as an attempt to comprehend and analyze this journey. ▼ The meaning of work is a construct that has been studied more systematically from the 80s,
through various approaches and in different occupational categories. This dissertation aims
to describe and discuss the meanings of work for construction workers. This is an empirical
study whose research supports herself in the Model Attributes Meaning of Work and its
respective instrument for measuring the Meaning of Work Inventory (STI). The research
involved 402 workers in the construction industry sector in the two capitals of the Brazilian
Northeast, with a mean age of 35.8 years (SD = 11.4). To collect the data, besides the IST,
the Working Conditions Questionnaire and sociodemographic data were also used. Data were
organized and analyzed using the SPSS program. The study used data analysis techniques to
Smallest Space Analisys (SSA), descriptive statistics, correlation and analysis of variance.
There was evidence of validity of the STI which was structured into five types of value
attributes (what work should be), and seven types of descriptive attributes (what is working).
The results showed that the work has high centrality and profiling for participants after the
family, the most important aspect in the lives of workers. Aspects of personal and economic
growth were more emphasized in definition of what the work should be and responsibility
and effort were characteristics that best described the reality of work.

▼ Regardless of legal acknowledgement, there are female housekeepers who work on a daily hiring system that allows them to work on a maximum of two days a week for the same employer. Their occupation is marked by the perpetuation of a gender and social status stratified system, which yields the reinforcement of inequalities, and brings another dimension to the matter: age. The number of people with this sort of employment has been increasing, mainly in the great metropolitan areas. Recently, this kind of labor has been studied by Work Psychology, notedly by the Social Psychology of Work. Contemplating this data, this research seeks to understand the process of signification of work for the daily hired housekeepers, in the city of Natal,
Rio Grande do Norte. Basing essentially on the activity theory, this dissertation comprehends significances as constructions mediated by concrete activity. Therefore, 12 daily hired housekeepers were interviewed, and their answers analyzed according to the construction of Meaning Cores. In this study, we inferred and systematized the construction of six meaning cores that have as a focus: a) occupational trajectory of the housekeepers; b) tools, obstacles and strategies for facing the execution of the work activity;
c) social relations in the working process; d) the perception of the housekeeping work activity; e) repercussions of the changes in the work area regarding daily hired housekeepers; and f) the conclusion about the final work. Within the human activity of housekeeping there is the prescription of objects, rules and procedures related to the desired results and how to reach them, however, it is a dynamic system, which can lead to similarities and contradictions in the activity itself. We were able to verify the results through a large amount of literature, mainly when it came to matters that unveil the precariousness of work, since this occupation still carries a lot of the structures of the unequal social scheme in Brazil. Aside from the contributions in this research, we brought up various themes that can be further studied.

▼ The meaning of work is a construct that has been studied more systematically from the 80s,
through various approaches and in different occupational categories. This dissertation aims
to describe and discuss the meanings of work for construction workers. This is an empirical
study whose research supports herself in the Model Attributes Meaning of Work and its
respective instrument for measuring the Meaning of Work Inventory (STI). The research
involved 402 workers in the construction industry sector in the two capitals of the Brazilian
Northeast, with a mean age of 35.8 years (SD = 11.4). To collect the data, besides the IST,
the Working Conditions Questionnaire and sociodemographic data were also used. Data were
organized and analyzed using the SPSS program. The study used data analysis techniques to
Smallest Space Analisys (SSA), descriptive statistics, correlation and analysis of variance.
There was evidence of validity of the STI which was structured into five types of value
attributes (what work should be), and seven types of descriptive attributes (what is working).
The results showed that the work has high centrality and profiling for participants after the
family, the most important aspect in the lives of workers. Aspects of personal and economic
growth were more emphasized in definition of what the work should be and responsibility
and effort were characteristics that best described the reality of work.
