A produção de hortaliças é uma atividade impactante, que se caracteriza pelo uso intensivo do solo, alta demanda de insumos e requer adoção estratégica de manejo com enfoque agroecológico de modo a sustentar sua produção. Dois experimentos foram conduzidos na área experimental da Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE) - Unidade Acadêmica de Serra Talhada (UAST), Serra Talhada - PE, com o objetivo de avaliar a produção de alface em função de diferentes quantidades e tempos de incorporação ao solo de Flor de seda (Calotropis procera) em duas épocas de cultivo. Os experimentos foram conduzidos em dois períodos: o primeiro foi realizado no período seco de 2011 (setembro a novembro) e o segundo no período chuvoso de 2012 (maio a julho), em delineamento experimental de blocos completos casualizados com os tratamentos arranjados em esquema fatorial 4 x 4 + 2, com três repetições, sendo o primeiro fator constituído por diferentes quantidades de adubo verde incorporadas ao solo (5,4; 8,8; 12,2 e 15,6 t ha-1 em base seca) e o segundo fator, por diferentes tempos de incorporação deste adubo ao solo (0, 10, 20, e 30 dias) mais dois tratamentos adicionais, um pela ausência de adubação e o outro pela utilização de 80 t ha-1de esterco bovino. A cultivar de alface utilizada foi a Babá de Verão, com espaçamentos de 0,20m x 0,20m. As características avaliadas foram altura e diâmetro de plantas, número de folhas por planta, rendimento de massa verde e massa seca da parte aérea, além dos indicadores econômicos renda bruta, renda líquida, taxa de retorno e índice de lucratividade. Os melhores desempenhos agroeconômicos da alface foram observados na quantidade de 15,6 t ha-1 de adubo verde Flor de seda nas duas épocas de cultivo, tendo como melhores resultados o tempo de 0 dia de incorporação na época seca e 20 dias de incorporação na época chuvosa.

The production of vegetables is an impacting activity, which is characterized by intensive use of land, with high demand of inputs and requires adoption of strategic management with agroecological approach to sustain its production. Two experiments were conducted in the experimental area Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE) - Unidade Acadêmica de Serra Talhada (UAST), Serra Talhada PE (Brazil), with the objective of evaluating the production of lettuce for different amounts of time and soil incorporation of Flor de Seda (Calotropis procera) two growing seasons. As pesquisas foram conduzidas no Laboratório de Análise de Sementes e em casa de vegetação, da Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Unidade Acadêmica de Garanhuns (UFRPE/UAG), em Garanhuns PE. O trabalho foi realizado com sementes de Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi, visando conhecer, descrever e ilustrar os aspectos morfológicos das sementes, plântulas e mudas, bem como, avaliar o efeito de temperaturas e regimes de luz sobre a qualidade fisiológica das sementes. No primeiro experimento realizou-se a descrição e ilustração morfológica de sementes, plântulas e mudas. Para o segundo experimento foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial de 4 x 6, sendo quatro regimes de luz (branca, vermelha, vermelho-distante e escuro) em seis temperaturas de 15, 20, 20-30, 25, 30 e 35C. O formato das sementes de S. terebinthifolius varia de reniforme a globoso, o tegumento é rugoso com ondulações, glabro e de coloração marrom escura. A germinação é epígea, fanerocotiledonar, lenta e desuniforme, iniciando-se no quinto dia após a semeadura estendendo até o 14 dia. A planta é heterófila, inicialmente os protófilos são simples e opostos e, a partir dos 40 dias os metáfilos são compostos trifoliolados, opostos e alternados. As sementes são classificadas como fotoblásticas neutras e para melhor expressão da sua qualidade fisiológica devem ser submetidas às temperaturas constante de 25C e alternadas de 20-30C com luz branca, 20 e 30C em luz vermelha e 20C em vermelho-distante.

The studies were carried out in the Laboratory of Seed Analysis and greenhouse, of Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Unidade Acadêmica de Garanhuns (UFRPE/UAG), from Garanhuns-PE. The work were realized with seeds of Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi, aiming to describing and illustrating morphological aspects of seed, development of seedlings and plants, as well as evaluate the effect of temperature and light scheme sob the physiological quality of seeds. In the first experiment was carried out morphological description and illustration of seeds, seedlings and plants. The second experiment was used a completely randomized design in factorial of 4 x 6, four light scheme (white, red, far-red and dark) at six temperatures 15, 20, 20-30, 25, 30 and 35C. The size of the seeds of S. terebinthifolius varies from globular to reniform, the coat is rough wavy, glabrous and dark brown. Germination is epigeal phanerocotylar slow and uneven, beginning on the fifth day after sowing extending until the 14th day. The plant is heterophile, initially protophilus are simple, opposite, and after 40 days the metaphylls compounds are trifoliolate, alternate and opposite. The seeds are classified as neutral photoblastic, and for the best expression of its physiological quality should be submitted to a constants temperatures of 25C and of 20-30C alternating in the light scheme of write, 20 and 30C in red light and and 20C in far-red light.

The tomato (Lycopersicon esculent) is a vegetable subject to the occurrence of many disease problems. The need to develop less toxic insecticides has been placed as an alternative found in insecticide plants. Alternative methods of control, such as the use of plant extracts with insecticidal activity have shown promising results. Among the spontaneous species of the caatinga biome silk flower (Calatropis procera) and endemic species of the caatinga biome such as juazeiro (Ziziphus joazeiro) have been studied through their extracts as insecticides. Thi way, the objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of plant extracts of the spontaneous species and endemic of the Caatinga biome in the management of pests and diseases in tomato. The experiment was conducted in the experimental area of UAST in two stages, the first being in greenhouse and second in field. In the first stage trays in greenhouse were used and it was verified the action of aqueous extracts of plant on the primary pests which are the transmitters of viruses in tomato Caline Ipa 7. In the second stage, in field it was verified the effect of the use of these aqueous extracts of plants on the main pests and virus using tomato seedlings from the first step. The extracts were produced by grinding leaves of silk flower (C. Procera) and juazeiro (Z. Joazeiro) in a proportion of 10% strained and then filtered through cheesecloth fabric plus 1% detergent. Sprays were made every two days and assessments made every seven days. The design in the first step was completely randomized with three treatments and two replications; in the second, the design was randomized in block with three treatments and six replications. Among the major pests associated with the cultivation of tomato in this study occurred more frequently in the White Fly Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae); Minadora to fly Liriomyza sp. (Diptera: Agromyzidae) and Thrips Frankliniella schultzei (Thysanoptera: Thripidae). Extracts of Silk Flower and Juazeiro reduced the infestation of fly B. White Thrips tabaci and F. schultzei compared to the control and the infestation of leaf miner Liriomyza sp. was lower in plants treated with silk flower extract against those not treated with plant extracts. The populational fluctuation of the Fly B. White Thrips tabaci and F. schultzei showed that these pests are present throughout the crop cycle, already Minadora fly Liriomyza sp. only appeared in the first two weeks. There was no difference between treatments in the proportion of plants with virus and production. The percentage of plants with virus symptoms was 49.8% in control and 35.36% and 47.38% for plants treated with extracts of Silk Flower and Juazeiro respectively. Tomato production was 61.03 kg in the control and 65.3 and 74.14 kg in plants treated with extracts of Silk Flower and Juazeiro, respectively, there was no difference in tomato production between treatments. So, Silk Flower and Juazeiro extracts reduced the infestation of fly B. White tabaci, Mosca Minadora Liriomyza sp.
