1. Bandeira, Marília Martins, 1984-. Políticas públicas para o lazer de aventura : entre esporte e turismo, fomento e controle do risco: Public policies on adventure leisure : between sports and tourism, promotion and risk control.

Degree: 2016, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Abstract: Adventure recreational practices and sporting events, related to exposure to natural environments and facing of risks, have achieved great increase in the number of participants in the millennium turn, what created new demands to public power. In Brazil, the proposition of regulatory laws and the partnership of the Ministry of Tourism with the Association of Ecotourism and Adventure Tourism Companies (ABETA) for the implementation of a national program called Aventura Segura (Safe Adventure) led to sport organizations requesting the creation of an Adventure Sports Commission (CEAV) inside the Ministry of Sport. This study, therefore, aimed to investigate what are the concerns and interests in conflict within the elaboration of public policies for adventure activities. To achieve it, the triangulation of the techniques of documentary analysis, open interviews and direct observation was used. Government documents, official publications and reactions to them in digital specialized media, involved social agents¿ testimonies and records on two events in field diary were analyzed. Data analysis was descriptive, interpretive, critical, and dialectic, confronting official decisions with communities of practice reactions, not only their convergences and homogeneities, but the differences and changes that make this social phenomenon. An overseas research internship in New Zealand also allowed investigating the case of the world capital for adventure activities. The results show that, in Brazil, the motivation of parliamentarians proposing laws for the regulation of the field of sports and adventure tourism was to ensure safety in adventure services, pressured by the relatives of victims of fatal accidents. This process brought a dispute between sport and tourism entities regarding the right to regulate and commercially exploit the field. Conflict that took more space on the political agenda than the accidents question, while leisure practices lost space in the Ministry of Sport, which prioritized conventional high performance sports, as hosting the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. In New Zealand, fatal accidents also triggered public policies. Although, recreation and outdoor education entities are the ones that dispute with tourism companies the terms and funds for the regulation of the field. Their federal agency of sports administration, Sport New Zealand, also prioritizes conventional high performance sport, although it has more expressive and cross-sectoral policies on outdoor recreation. We conclude that, in Brazil, promoting policies on adventure practices are mainly focused on the tourism sector and its economic potential as a niche market. Encouraging recreational and sporting dimension of the phenomenon is scarce and the intention to democratize access and enhance its educational features is restricted Advisors/Committee Members: UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS (CRUESP), Amaral, Silvia Cristina Franco, 1968- (advisor), Universidade Estadual de Campinas. 2. Pereira, Ana Paula Cunha. O lazer e a residência secundária em Angra dos Reis-RJ = The leisure and the second homes in Angra dos Reis, RJ: The leisure and the second homes in Angra dos Reis, RJ.

Degree: 2012, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Abstract: This Doctoral research was conducted in the Brazilian city of Angra dos Reis, located in Rio de Janeiro state, and it investigated the issue of leisure among its inhabitants as associated with the growth of the second home business. The concept of the second home is considered problematic because it covers many variables, such as the distribution, the characteristics, the function, the planning aspects and the social impacts. In current studies Brazilian researchers have been working within the definition of a 'second home' as a residence with a minimum length of occupancy and proof of the possession of two residences. In the case of Angra dos Reis, this concept was not adequate to understand the impacts of this business on the leisure of the inhabitants. The main reason rests on a particular type of second home established in Angra dos Reis called 'gated communities', a type of residence that conjures images of "a residential area with restricted access [¿] with walls or fences, and controlled entrances that are intended to prevent penetration by non-residents. Mainly, these types of second home have been constructed around desirable natural amenities (beaches, waterfalls and forests) in Angra dos Reis, and have been sold on the basis of the exclusive natural spaces guaranteed by the second home market. This research aimed to analyze the relationship between local residents and second homeowners. Using the ethnographic method, the researcher conducted opportunistic sampling in a specific neighborhood called Frade. The study revealed the genesis and the function of the social networks of locals and second homeowners, but also those of the council and state office representatives, the administrative body of the gated communities and NGOs. The framework theory used in this research drew on the concepts of: 'second homes'; social capital; gated communities; locality; symbiotic and opposite relationships. Consequently, leisure practices such as fishing and golf, shared by local residents and second home owners, showed themselves to be a potential object of material and symbolic exchange through which to establish rules, negotiations and strategies to include or exclude groups of the leisure network Advisors/Committee Members: UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS (CRUESP), Amaral, Silvia Cristina Franco, 1968- (advisor), Universidade Estadual de Campinas. 3. Romera, Liana Abrão. Juventude, lazer e uso abusivo de alcool: Youth, leisure and abusive use of alcohol.

Degree: 2008, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Abstract: The contemporaneous relationship which has been established between abusive use of alcohol, youth and leisure has been the focus of concern and the theme of studies of different societal segments, due to both long and short term negative impacts that this has aroused. For this reason, this research aims to widen the knowledge about these subjects and phenomenon within the context where it occurs, in an attempt to have a better understanding of them. The relationship between leisure, youth and the use of drugs is regarded as one of the biggest contemporaneous phenomenon which has led to direct or indirect consequences in different segments of society. Alcohol is under the heading of licit drugs; therefore, it is licitly commercialized in this country. It is classified, according to CEBRID, as the favorite substance of consumption among Brazilian youngsters. Along with this situation, alcohol accounts for most car accidents, fights, assaults, arguments and deaths, especially among that age group. This is due to the reaction that it arouses within the nervous system, causing the person¿s mental state to change rapidly, going from a very euphoric to a very deep state of sadness, from very sweet to very aggressive mood. Furthermore, one loses one¿s capacity to ponder, to perceive one¿s surroundings and, therefore everything seems to be seen in a distorted way. Sport performance is one of the most important leisure events in the country and the large majority of fans are youngster who organize their team supporters (the cheerers), and these have been the main actors in violent scenes as well as the scenario where violence for no apparent reason can be observed. The aim of this study was to identify the use of alcohol within the youth, frequenty sports events ¿ Football, and to achieve that purpose, young supporters of a football team in the country were selected. With the use of qualitative method, the study was carried out through a combination of bibliographical and field research with the insertion of the researcher in football stadium during sport performances, with the application of AUDIT, an instrument to assess the degree of compromise between alcohol and the subject. 263 subjects were researched in different occasions within the football events in the sate of São Paulo during the paulista championship of 2007 and 2008. This challenge of approaching some specific existing aspects between leisure and drugs through the interrelation of current society represents an important attempt to understand the phenomenon, aiming to provoke a reflection and the necessary debate, however, taking care in order not to incur in moralistic and prejudiced conceptions which could lead to a simplistic and reductionist understanding of the theme proposed. Understanding the phenomenon, and the possible relationship between these and the conducts of risk through the pinpointing of alcohol use pattern and the activities carried out during free time, can lead us to propose actions that contribute both to the reduction of violence… Advisors/Committee Members: UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS (CRUESP), Reis, Heloisa Helena Baldy dos, 1965- (advisor), Universidade Estadual de Campinas.
