1. Ferri, Carlos Alexandre, 1982-. Rede de sensores inerciais e eletromiografia para análise da marcha humana = Network of inertial sensors and electromyography to the analysis of human gait: Network of inertial sensors and electromyography to the analysis of human gait.

Degree: 2017, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Abstract: The act of walking is a complex activity involving the central and peripheral nervous system, and the musculoskeletal system, making it the object of numerous studies. Thus, kinesiology is responsible for understanding the mechanisms involved in the human gait coordination, high-lighting its importance as an auxiliary tool for comprehension, detection and treatment of lo-comotor disorders. Currently, there are four main approaches to gait analysis: Video Kinemat-ic, Force Platform, Electromyography and Inertial Sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope). In this work was developed an equipment based on Wearable Systems, consisting of Electromyog-raphy, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and footswitches. System development was divided into three parts: sensor module, server module and interface software in Windows® environment. The sensor module comprises two electromyography channels with programma-ble gain, triaxial accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope, and two A/D channels connect-ed to a FSR each, to work as footswitches. Power is provided by a lithium-ion battery that pro-vides energy for continuous use for at least five hours. Each sensor module, in full operation, produces 12.4kB of data per second, transmitted wirelessly in a dedicated channel for each module. The server module receives the data from all the channels and sends them through the USB port, where they will be managed by the interface software. This software identifies which sensors data comes from and stores then in ".csv" files. Workbench tests showed that the equipment behaves as expected, the electromyography frequency responses of the channels respond to the range of 10Hz to 1 kHz, the accelerometer, magnetometer and gyroscope re-spond adequately to the basic frequencies of 2, 5, 10, 20 and 30Hz. Loss of data packets in-creases significantly with the increase in the number of channels running simultaneously. How-ever, a circular buffer capable of storing two seconds of data ensure its retransmission, mini-mizing actual data losses. Electromyography channels were tested under isometric contraction for 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% of MVC, and their RMS values were compatible with those found in the literature. Preliminary human test, with six subjects, show the device's ability to capture all data and transmit them simultaneously. In addition, parameters and patterns inher-ent to gait cycle were compatible with what was expected. Therefore, the developed system pre-sents high versatility as a tool for studies of human gait using the concept of wearable sensors Advisors/Committee Members: UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS (CRUESP), Fasolo Quevedo, Antonio Augusto, 1970- (advisor), Universidade Estadual de Campinas.
