Abstract: Besides the high success rates of the treatment with dental implants (96.6%), clinical complications from mechanical or biological perspective might happen due to its biomechanical behavior which is different from natural tooth. The bone-implant interface shows lower resistance than the tooth-bone interface. Among the complications, bone tissue resorption can be considered as one of the main reasons that lead to implant fail. The main factors which result in periimplantar bone resorption can also have biological or mechanical origin. Clinical studies and systematic reviews have shown that external connections implants have presented the highest bone resorption rates after function. The concept of switching platform (PS) was proposed to minimize bone resorption. The use of this platform design tends to avoid or minimize damage to marginal bone. The aim of this study was evaluated the periimplantar bone stress and prosthetic components in rehabilitatons with external connection implants using regular platform (RP) or SP in progressive levels of bone resorption using an in silico analysis. Six eperimental models were created to simulate two abutment designs, one RP ando ne SP. Three bone levels were simulated: control (no resorption) and two experimentals (-1.5 mm and -2.5 mm of bone loss). Models were analised in Ansys Workbench software under two loading conditions: vertical and oblique, at 150 N. Data from shear stress, tensile and compression stress were grouped as "stress criteria" for cortical and cancellous bone and von Misses stress for the implant and posthetic components. The influence of each factor was evaluated using ANOVA, and the percentage contribution, i.e., % total sum of squares (%TSS) of each of the evaluated parameters were calculated. Bone level showed significant influence for increase in bone tissue stress in both platform designs and loading conditions (p<0.05). It was found an increase in stress distribution in MPa in bone tissue for RP and SP groups with the increase of bone resorption. In all experimental models, cortical bone has shown higher stress. Under oblique loading, implant has its stress values infuenced by bone level (p<0.05). Bone level also significantly influenced stress in the abutment screw (p<0.05). The platform design showed significative conribution in von Misses stress of the abutment under vertial and oblique loading (p<0.05). Bone level seems to influence stress intesity in periimplantar bone tisse with no significative diferences for RP and SP. In addition, SP showed influence in stress distribution in the abutment.
