1. Campos, Priscila Augusta Ferreira, 1981. As formas de uso e apropriação do estádio Mineirão após a reforma: The usage and appropriation of Mineirão stadium after its remodelling.

Degree: 2016, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Abstract: The stadium is one of the spaces that reflect social changes in a given time-space, being hit by them, and at the same time influencing them. The World Cup 2014 brought the promise of changes in usage and appropriation of some Brazilian stadiums, as they have been refurbished and redesigned for this mega event. The Mineirão stadium, located in Belo Horizonte/MG was the one who went through this process. This study analyzed the usage and appropriation of Mineirão, with and without scheduled football games. It is a qualitative exploratory descriptive research. Data collection took place inside the stadium and its surroundings, from December 2012 to December 2014. To collect the information we used participant observation, semi-open and semi-structured interview form. The results indicate the promenade has become a leisure tool in Belo Horizonte, for the residents of neighboring regional Pampulha, which has an uneven distribution of such resources. The main practices taking place are skateboarding, rollerblading, jogging and children's games. The legitimacy of the space is perceived by its occupation on both weekdays and on weekends. Using the stadium for football games was where we saw the greatest impact of public-private partnership, since the stadium started to operate within a business logic. In this reformulation, we realize stadium administrators and club / customer chose a group of fans who have the financial capital to purchase the ticket. In addition, they must incorporate the habits suggested by and for a new order of football. The data demonstrated that the fans have a dubious feeling about the reform of the Mineirão because while recognizing the improvements in terms of comfort, cleanliness and safety, they miss the traditional habits of this stadium, including, get together in the food tends, talk and eat Feijão Tropeiro. Due to this absence, several fans resist and reinvent this practice through the barbecue organized in small groups around the stadium moments before the games. Thus, we find the process of constitution of usage and appropriation of space is dynamic. Leisure embodied in the city contributes to its public dimension. There should be a leisure policy which takes into account the reduction of barriers to citizens experience, the expansion of its content and the recognition of its mobilization character and cultural participation. Finally, I believe this research joins others that have been treating the stadiums as important spaces and tools to the cities Advisors/Committee Members: UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS (CRUESP), Amaral, Silvia Cristina Franco, 1968- (advisor), Universidade Estadual de Campinas. 2. Pereira, Ana Paula Cunha. O lazer e a residência secundária em Angra dos Reis-RJ = The leisure and the second homes in Angra dos Reis, RJ: The leisure and the second homes in Angra dos Reis, RJ.

Degree: 2012, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Abstract: This Doctoral research was conducted in the Brazilian city of Angra dos Reis, located in Rio de Janeiro state, and it investigated the issue of leisure among its inhabitants as associated with the growth of the second home business. The concept of the second home is considered problematic because it covers many variables, such as the distribution, the characteristics, the function, the planning aspects and the social impacts. In current studies Brazilian researchers have been working within the definition of a 'second home' as a residence with a minimum length of occupancy and proof of the possession of two residences. In the case of Angra dos Reis, this concept was not adequate to understand the impacts of this business on the leisure of the inhabitants. The main reason rests on a particular type of second home established in Angra dos Reis called 'gated communities', a type of residence that conjures images of "a residential area with restricted access [¿] with walls or fences, and controlled entrances that are intended to prevent penetration by non-residents. Mainly, these types of second home have been constructed around desirable natural amenities (beaches, waterfalls and forests) in Angra dos Reis, and have been sold on the basis of the exclusive natural spaces guaranteed by the second home market. This research aimed to analyze the relationship between local residents and second homeowners. Using the ethnographic method, the researcher conducted opportunistic sampling in a specific neighborhood called Frade. The study revealed the genesis and the function of the social networks of locals and second homeowners, but also those of the council and state office representatives, the administrative body of the gated communities and NGOs. The framework theory used in this research drew on the concepts of: 'second homes'; social capital; gated communities; locality; symbiotic and opposite relationships. Consequently, leisure practices such as fishing and golf, shared by local residents and second home owners, showed themselves to be a potential object of material and symbolic exchange through which to establish rules, negotiations and strategies to include or exclude groups of the leisure network Advisors/Committee Members: UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS (CRUESP), Amaral, Silvia Cristina Franco, 1968- (advisor), Universidade Estadual de Campinas. 3. Pimentel, Giuliano Gomes de Assis. Risco, corpo e socialidade no voo livre: Risk, body and socialization on hang gliding.

Degree: 2006, Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Abstract: Hand Gliding is an adventurous physical activity in nature (APAN) whose feature is to take off from a high place and keep flying by using the draughts of air. In Brazil, there are more than 5,000 sports people, including pilots of hang glides and parachutes. Most of these hang gliders fly for leisure, and it has strong relation with their life style and with socializing nets formation. Usually they do not fly by themselves, but in groups of affinity. Another society feature is that men and women fly together. Although young and athletic people are expected, some factors, such as technology, allow different people to participate, and the number of people over 30 years old in this sport is remarkable. Generally, only young people take these risks. It is also intriguing the fact that hang gliding is adopted as leisure by ordinary people, as it has perils of life. Thus, this study has considered socialization, body and risk as essential dimensions to understand this APAN. Taking the mentioned problems into account, the objective was to understand the meanings given to risk, body and socialization from hang gliding corporal practice. To that, appropriating ethnographic research, a study was performed by observing the people and interviewing them and also through images recorded in Terra Rica, Paraná. Twenty two people were interviewed. The sample was intentional and not probabilistic, determined by data saturation. The theoretical base reference was taken from Michel Maffesoli, with relevance to his discussions on socialization, socialization potency, nomadism, tribalization, theoretical sensitiveness, sensitive reason, erotic theory, esthetic ethic and dynamic root taking. Among the reported evidences there are outstanding ones: rational emphasis on the trinomial equipment pilot-condition; gathering effervescence around flight as a life style; structure of moments of flight similar to rites; sensitive perception of spirituality and nature in suspension phase; ambiguities and contradictions in practices and representations about body and risk. In a life replete of routine and stress, the flight comes as a different pole. People transit between these two ambits (routine and leisure), showing dynamic root taking in contemporaneity. In this corporal practice, that explores emotions in risky situations, the pilots incorporate the logic of being responsible for the mistakes, even though there is not an ideal body immune to imponderability of the accidents, given the real risk. Consequently, aspects of a sensitive rationality, as group sympathy or intuition are incorporated in fliers¿ experiences as complements ¿ contradictory ¿ to technique and technology in risks managing in hang gliding. These interactions, not able to be synthesized, support the thesis that risk, body and socialization are prior elements when understanding the collectivity of subjects that do a risky sport in a certain moment of their lives not related to youth anymore Advisors/Committee Members: UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS (CRUESP), Bruhns, Heloisa Turini (advisor), Universidade Estadual de Campinas.
