The aims of this research was to develop and validate a decision support system using fuzzy system, on the ground of fuzzy sets theory, and a neuro-fuzzy system (neuro-fuzzy network), based on the algorithm LOLIMOT (Local Linear Model Tree ) for rectal temperature prediction of broiler chickens. The systems were developed based on the ground of three input variables: air temperature (T), relative humidity (RH) and air velocity (V). The output variable was the rectal temperature (RT). The fuzzy inference system was performed through the Mamdaniâs method which consisted in elaborating 48 rules. The defuzzification was done by Center of Gravity Method. The fuzzy system was developed using MAPLEÂ 8. Gaussian pertinence functions type with 0.33 standard deviation were used in order to perform the neuro-fuzzy network. Ten input data partitions were adapted by the system. The neuro-fuzzy network was developed using SCILAB 4.1. Experimental results, used for validation, showed that the average standard deviations between the simulated and measured values of RT by the fuzzy and neuro-fuzzy systems were 0.13ÂC and 0.11ÂC, respectively. The proposed fuzzy and neuro-fuzzy systems were found to satisfactorily predict rectal temperature based on climatic variables (T, RH and V). Therefore, they could be used as decision support system on broiler chicken growth.

Os objetivos do presente trabalho foram desenvolver e validar um sistema de suporte à decisÃo, utilizando sistema fuzzy, baseado na teoria dos conjuntos fuzzy, e um sistema neuro-fuzzy (rede neuro-fuzzy), baseado no algoritmo LOLIMOT (Local Linear Model Tree), para a prediÃÃo da temperatura retal de frangos de corte. Os sistemas foram desenvolvidos com base em trÃs variÃveis de entrada: temperatura do ar (T), umidade relativa (UR) e velocidade do ar (V), tendo como variÃvel de saÃda, a temperatura retal (TR). A inferÃncia do sistema fuzzy foi realizada por meio do mÃtodo tipo Mamdani, que consistiu na elaboraÃÃo de 48 regras e a defuzzificaÃÃo por meio do Centro de Gravidade, utilizando o ambiente computacional MAPLE 8. Para a confecÃÃo da rede neuro-fuzzy, foram utilizadas funÃÃes de pertinÃncia tipo gaussiana (funÃÃes peso) com desvio padrÃo de 0,33 e nÃmero de partiÃÃes do espaÃo de entrada igual a 10. A rede neuro-fuzzy foi desenvolvida no ambiente computacional SCILAB 4.1. Resultados experimentais, usados para a validaÃÃo, mostraram que os desvios padrÃes mÃdios entre os valores simulados e medidos de TR para os sistemas fuzzy e neuro-fuzzy foram de 0,13ÂC e 0,11ÂC, respectivamente. Os sistemas fuzzy e neuro-fuzzy propostos predizem satisfatoriamente a temperatura retal com base nas variÃveis climÃticas (T, UR e V), podendo ser utilizados como suportes à decisÃo em sistemas de criaÃÃo de frangos de corte.

The objective of this work was to develop and validate a mathematical and computational model to predict thermal environment (air temperature, relative humidity, temperature-humidity index â THI and environmental index for broiler chickens productivity â EPIbc), main physiological responses (skin temperature â TS, rectal temperature â TR and respiratory frequency â RF) and productive performance (daily feed intake â DFI, daily weight gain â DWG and feed conversion â FC) of broiler chickens lodged in acclimatized housings, equipped with negative pressure tunnel ventilation system (TVS) associated with evaporative cooling systems â ECSs (pad cooling or misting system or both of them). The computational model was used to study the ECSs potential use in Southeastern region of Brazil. Experimental results, used to validate the model, showed that standard errors between simulated and measured values were smaller than or equal to 1.27, except for relative humidity, DFI and RF that were 5.43%, 1.77 g day-1 and 2.15 breathes min-1, respectively. The proposed mathematical model simulated satisfactorily all response variables modeled; then, software named SisTÃnel was developed as a tool for presenting results by table and graphics, permitting the simulation and study of several productionsâ scenarios. Mathematical and computational models and meteorological data from 1980 to 2001 available at Project Reanalysis-2 (NCEP/NCAR) were used to map the potential of use of ECSs, with different efficiencies, coupled to TVS for broiler chicken grown at Southeastern of Brazil. Thermal environment was characterized by temperature-humidity index (THI) and chicken performance was determined by DFI, DWG and FC. Simulations involved four systems configurations (treatments): a) TVS (control), b) TVS associated with pad cooling with 40% efficiency (TVSPAD40), c) TVS associated with pad cooling system with 70% efficiency (TVSPAD70) and d) TVSPAD70 associated with a misting system (TVSPAD70+MIST). Results showed that ECS use effect compared to TVS was beneficial, allowing to conclude that, especially during September and October, TVSPAD70+MIST provided the best production condition for almost all Southeastern region, standing out North and Northwest areas of Minas Gerais State.
