Broiler production in Brazil, and particularly in the state of Minas Gerais, possesses a great potential for expansion and improvement. In that way, solutions must be sought in order to further improve the productive process, thus enabling that the birds express all their genetic potential while minimizing the production costs and maximizing yield productivity. The objective of the present study was both to spatially evaluate and characterize the production environment of sexed broiler chicken, males and females, reared in a commercial broiler house equipped with conventional ventilation and misting system and its effects on the birds. Therefore, this study was divided into distinct works. The objective of the first was to evaluate the effect of the production environment upon the productive performance and physiological responses of the birds. Analysis of weight gain, body mass and mortality as well breath rate, rectal temperature, skin temperature and feather temperature demonstrated that males presented productive performance significantly superior to that of females, however this difference was not related to the productive environment since no significant differences were found among the production environments. In the second work, evaluation and specialization of the thermo-acoustic and illuminance variables by means of the black-globe humidity index (BGHI), air velocity (Vair), noise and illuminance levels were performed. Spatial distribution maps of the broiler house were made by the interpolation of the variables by the kriging method. Spatialization of the variables demonstrated the presence of small areas throughout the house with distinct values in relation to the BHGI, Vair and illuminance of the rest of the installation.

A produÃÃo de frangos de corte no Brasil, e em particular no estado de Minas Gerais, tem grande potencial de expansÃo e aprimoramento. Dessa forma, soluÃÃes devem ser pesquisadas, a fim de aprimorar ainda mais o processo produtivo, permitindo, assim, que as aves expressem todo o seu potencial genÃtico, minimizando os custos de produÃÃo e maximizando a produtividade. Com a presente pesquisa, objetivou-se avaliar e caracterizar espacialmente o ambiente de produÃÃo de frangos de corte sexados, machos e fÃmeas, criados em galpÃo comercial equipado com sistemas de ventilaÃÃo convencional e de nebulizaÃÃo e seus efeitos sobre as aves. Para tanto, dividiu-se este estudo em dois trabalhos distintos. No primeiro, o objetivo foi avaliar o efeito do ambiente de produÃÃo sobre o desempenho produtivo e respostas fisiolÃgicas das aves. A anÃlise do ganho de peso, massa corporal e mortalidade, bem como da frequÃncia respiratÃria, temperatura retal, temperatura da pele e temperatura da pena, demonstrou que os machos apresentaram desempenho produtivo significativamente superior ao das fÃmeas, diferenÃa esta nÃo relacionada ao ambiente produtivo, uma vez que nÃo se verificou diferenÃas significativas entre os ambientes de produÃÃo. The objective of this work was to develop and validate a mathematical and computational model to predict thermal environment (air temperature, relative humidity, temperature-humidity index â THI and environmental index for broiler chickens productivity â EPIbc), main physiological responses (skin temperature â TS, rectal temperature â TR and respiratory frequency â RF) and productive performance (daily feed intake â DFI, daily weight gain â DWG and feed conversion â FC) of broiler chickens lodged in acclimatized housings, equipped with negative pressure tunnel ventilation system (TVS) associated with evaporative cooling systems â ECSs (pad cooling or misting system or both of them). The computational model was used to study the ECSs potential use in Southeastern region of Brazil. Experimental results, used to validate the model, showed that standard errors between simulated and measured values were smaller than or equal to 1.27, except for relative humidity, DFI and RF that were 5.43%, 1.77 g day-1 and 2.15 breathes min-1, respectively. The proposed mathematical model simulated satisfactorily all response variables modeled; then, software named SisTÃnel was developed as a tool for presenting results by table and graphics, permitting the simulation and study of several productionsâ scenarios. Mathematical and computational models and meteorological data from 1980 to 2001 available at Project Reanalysis-2 (NCEP/NCAR) were used to map the potential of use of ECSs, with different efficiencies, coupled to TVS for broiler chicken grown at Southeastern of Brazil. Thermal environment was characterized by temperature-humidity index (THI) and chicken performance was determined by DFI, DWG and FC. Simulations involved four systems configurations (treatments): a) TVS (control), b) TVS associated with pad cooling with 40% efficiency (TVSPAD40), c) TVS associated with pad cooling system with 70% efficiency (TVSPAD70) and d) TVSPAD70 associated with a misting system (TVSPAD70+MIST). Results showed that ECS use effect compared to TVS was beneficial, allowing to conclude that, especially during September and October, TVSPAD70+MIST provided the best production condition for almost all Southeastern region, standing out North and Northwest areas of Minas Gerais State.
