1. Gordon, Kathleen. A Program Evaluation Of The Parent Academy For One School District.

Degree: EdD Doctor of Education, Educational Leadership, 2019, National-Louis University

ABSTRACT This program evaluation project addresses issues relating to low-parent attendance at one district’s parent academy. The process I used to gather information from the parents, administrators, board members, and business partners included individual surveys and interviews. The results indicated the biggest problems for mediocre parent engagement centered on transportation and the lack of parent involvement in the planning process. Improving the strategic planning process of the parent academy was the dominant need I identified based on my Change Leadership Plan. Included is a policy amendment regarding parent involvement in matters related to student achievement. Advisors/Committee Members: Chair: Carol A. Burg, Ph.D., Committee Member: James L. Schott, Ph.D., Dean's Representative: Dale Moxley, Ed.D..

2. Baker-Drayton, Tamara. An Evaluation Of The New Teacher Mentoring And Induction Program At A Title One Elementary School.

Degree: EdD Doctor of Education, Educational Leadership, 2019, National-Louis University

Low performing Title I schools often experience a lower teacher retention rate when compared to schools with higher academic achievement. Vacancies are typically filled with new or inexperienced teachers who leave the school within a few years. To counter this problem, West Creek Elementary (pseudonym) introduced a comprehensive New Teacher Mentoring and Induction initiative. The program evaluation was a voluntary anonymous written survey with an optional in person interview conducted with the participants and administrators. Results indicated that the New Teacher Mentoring and Induction program was effective in enhancing teacher pedagogy, not effective in enhancing teacher retention, and that greater emphasis should be placed on addressing the stress and demands of working in a high pressure, results oriented environment. Advisors/Committee Members: Chair Carol A. Burg, Ph.D, Committee Member James L. Schott, Ph.D, Dean's Representative Brenda K. Hardman, Ed.D.
