1. Chen , Yen-wen. Numerical Simulation of Dynamic Behavior on WFGD.

This research focuses on the 3D dynamic behaviors of a wet flue-gas desulfurization (WFGD) by numerical simulation. Our simulation utilizes the Eulerian-Eulerian model on multiphase flow and couple with chemical reaction. Then the gas and liquid hydrodynamics inside a Sieve Tray Tower has been simulated using a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, while a model that treats the absorption process of SO2 has been developed and implemented in the software through dedicated modules. The simulation has been validated by absorption of SO2 measurements of the experimental data, and further analyses have been conducted through the volume of fraction and velocity contours. Our goal is to analyze the result of simulation on every sieve tray and capture more complicated flow structures. According to the results, the dynamic behaviors of the flow field and liquid-gas ratio can affect the sulphur dioxide removal efficiency significantly. The result shows that chemical reaction couple with Eulerian-Eulerian model can help this research to have better understandings of the complexity of the FGD and prepare for the further optimization. 2. Cheng, Yu-En. Lagrangian-Based Investigation for Dynamic Stall.

The phenomenon of dynamic stall for a single pitching foil is simulated and analyzed in this study. The differences between static and dynamic stall are investigated in terms of lift coefficient. In addition to the traditional Eulerian viewpoint, Lagranigan coherent structures are also utilized to gain more insights of the flow physics. The result of simulation can capture the dynamic flows effectively on qualitative. It is shown that the strength and location of vorticity will affect the lift, and so does the interactions between high and low pressure area, which are dominated by angle of attack. The leading-edge vortex usually will enhance the lift. As for the trailing-edge vortex, it will reduce the lift. On the other hand, the lift will increase if this vortex is closer to the upper surface.
