The demand for bandwidth and speed in global data network continues to increase because of the growing accessibility of the internet and high bandwidth applications such as multimedia video conferencing internet Television etc Conventional electronics technology will not be sufficient for future communication and computation as it is bound to reach its physical speed limit Moreover the current chip power consumption and dissipation levels are high in microelectronic processor Processing in an optical domain is one of the most promising technologies to overcome the physical limitations In recent years all optical signal processing and optical newlinecomputing techniques have attracted many researchers and stimulated new developments in high speed and high capacity communication and computing systems All optical logic gates are envisioned as key building blocks in the all optical signal processor and computing systems to perform logic functions addressing switching packet header recognizing data encryption etc newlineIn recent years photonic crystals have been the cynosure of the researchers for use as a platform on which to build devices with dimensions in the order of wavelengths of light PhCs are inhomogeneous dielectric media in which the refractive index is periodically varied on a length scale comparable to the desired operating wavelength by means of periodically located rods or holes newline newline
