▼ Corporate Entrepreneurship (CE) has been a topic of interest to scholars for over 40 years. Scholars have defined CE using a variety of terms, however the core idea of CE has involved entrepreneurial activities occurring within large, established firms. CE activities have included the pursuit of innovation and the introduction of new products, services and ideas in order to renew established companies and enable them to compete with more agile start-ups. To date, there has been little research on how CE unfolds which has stymied theory development and practical knowledge. The purpose of this thesis was to address this ?how? question to further understand the process of CE. I implemented effectuation as a conceptual framework as opposed to the rational-economic perspective normally assumed in CE research. The overarching research question was ?How do corporate entrepreneurs use effectuation for innovation?? I employed a qualitative, multi-case study research design with corporate innovation projects as the level of analysis. The design facilitated theory building. Data were collected via interviews as well as secondary sources. Within and cross case analyses were done to surface patterns across the innovation projects. Findings revealed three effectual mechanism including: garnering support of internal stakeholders, accreting in-house financial resources, and acquiring skills of existing employees for project development. Evidence also suggested a process model whereby corporate entrepreneurs? ideas were shaped into viable products (see Figure 2). Interestingly, findings illustrated how effectuation in the corporate setting may differ from the new venture context, the context in which it is usually applied. Implications for the wider literature are discussed along with limitations of the research design. This study extended research on effectuation through exploring effectual processes in the corporate setting. In particular, findings provided an initial glimpse of how more emergent, organic entrepreneurial processes might unfold in corporations. ▼ Fear of failure was studied in the field of psychology for more than 60 years before it was studied in other fields such as education, sports and entrepreneurship. In previous entrepreneurship research, fear of failure was often reported as a barrier that prevented individuals from starting up businesses. There is limited research on the experience of fear of failure across various stages of the entrepreneurship process such as the pre-start-up and early phase of the venture, particularly among young entrepreneurs. Thus, this thesis aims to explore fear of failure experiences among young start-up entrepreneurs who started their ventures within the past one to three years in the specific country context of Cambodia. The key question that guided this thesis was “How do young entrepreneurs experience and cope with fear of failure in the context of new venture start-ups?”. This thesis employed a qualitative method to explore fear of failure experiences among young start-up entrepreneurs in Cambodia. The interviews were conducted with ten young entrepreneurs aged 25 to 32 years who had launched their businesses within the past one to three years. The research findings revealed the two main sources of fear of failure, related to societal pressures and fear of challenges in business. The findings further provided a more nuanced picture of both the negative and positive effects of fear of failure, which had rarely been explored in previous research. Those negative and positive effects were seen in the form of altered business activities and decisions, and personal well-being, feelings and emotions being impacted. Interestingly, the findings provided initial empirical evidence of a range of strategies and behaviours of coping with fear of failure. Three main categories of coping were: planning, managing, and seeking support; self-management for mental and physical health; and purpose and meaning of the start-up. ▼ The South-Asian diaspora has significance in the historic and social context in New Zealand. At present Asians are the third largest ethnic group in New Zealand (Statistics New Zealand, 2013). The social enterprises sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in New Zealand (Dart, 2004; Ministry of Economic Development, 2011). A growing body of literature emphasises the challenges faced by South-Asian diasporic women who have migrated across the world to acquire improved living conditions for themselves and their families (ILO & ADB, 2011). The experiences of South-Asian diasporic working women and understanding the organisational contributions made by them to social enterprises have remained relatively unexplored in organisational studies literature (Kim, 2011), so literature on this topic is limited and the lack of literature establishes a theoretical gap (Brah, 1993; Parreñas, 2001; Piper & Roces, 2003). The purpose of this research is to address this gap and to explore the experiences and organisational contributions of South-Asian diasporic women working in New Zealand social enterprises. This qualitative research adopted a subjective approach under an interpretive paradigm with individual women as the unit of analysis. The study addresses the primary research question: ‘how do South-Asian working women contribute to social enterprises in New Zealand?’ and two sub-questions: ‘what challenges (if any) did the South-Asian women face in making these contributions?’ and ‘how did these women navigate these challenges?’ Findings are based on in-depth interviews with South-Asian women employees and their managers from three Auckland-based social enterprises. The study employed the thematic analysis method and revealed six themes for organisational contributions and four themes for experiencing and navigating challenges by South-Asian diasporic women. This study brings a positive and constructive dimension to the study of South-Asian women by highlighting their organisational contributions to New Zealand social enterprises. ▼ Entrepreneurial passion has been regarded as the heart of business venturing for centuries. Recently, it has been a topic of interest in the academic community. Over the past decades, there has been an increasing number of publications in this area. However, the extant research is relatively large, heterogeneous, and patchy. Yet, little effort has been made to integrate the findings of those studies and assess the current state of the knowledge. Therefore, we are left with a fragmented, rather than a nuanced, holistic understanding of entrepreneurial passion. This study aims to conduct a systematic review of the literature on the neglected area of passion in entrepreneurship. Particularly, it seeks to synthesise the previous academic findings, highlight the research gaps, and proposes future research agenda to extend the body of literature in three aspects: the targets, causes, and consequences of entrepreneurial passion. The two interrelated research questions are: (1) what has prior research found regarding the targets, causes, and consequences of entrepreneurial passion?; and (2) what are the future research opportunities regarding the targets, causes, and consequences of entrepreneurial passion? In order to achieve the research objectives, a systematic literature review was employed as the research method. A total of 61 peer-reviewed journal articles were obtained from an electronic search in two large international databases (EBSCO and SCOPUS) in a rigorous and systematic manner. In terms of the method for analysing data, this study adopted a thematic synthesis to identify the literature themes and weave them together. It also applied framework synthesis to build a framework of the interrelationships between the targets, causes, and consequences of entrepreneurial passion. An analysis of the results of the review suggests that: (1) the targets of entrepreneurs’ passion are directed toward four specific domains: entrepreneurial activities, venture-related objects, stakeholders associated with the firm, and concepts (idea, cause or goal); (2) there are four drivers of entrepreneurial passion: entrepreneurial education, engagement in entrepreneurship, individual differences, and role models; and (3) entrepreneurial passion leads to two main consequences: micro (individual) and meso (firm-related) outcomes. Based on these findings, future research avenues to extend and enrich the literature were proposed accordingly. This research has made several contributions. Theoretically, it provides thematic insights on the targets, causes, and consequences of entrepreneurial passion, and illustrates the interconnection between these three aspects through a framework. It also identifies gaps and prospective lines of inquiries. Regarding practical contributions, entrepreneurs could learn about the drivers of passion in order to spark and sustain such feeling throughout their entrepreneurial career.
